17:59 < jemler> hi KK
17:59 < the_Bee> Hi KK!
17:59 < KK> Hello, folks.
17:59 < Evie_> hi
18:00 < KK> Is everyone having a nice Memorial Day weekend?
18:00 < Evie_> Raccoon Creek is a lovely park, jemler, or at least it was some 20 years or so ago when I used to drive up to spend the weekend there
18:00 < jemler> so far
18:00 < Evie_> I spent 1.5 hours today pulling hair out of my male test head, KK
18:00 < jemler> do you remember if you were on old 30?
18:00 < the_Bee> lovely weather, anyway.  I got all the way to church and back without falling off my trike.
18:01 < Evie_> and now I understand why the customizers charge so blumming much to do a reroot! :D
18:01 < jemler> we had tstorms
18:01 < Evie_> Don't remember, jemler
18:01 < KK> Excellent, Bee.  Have you gotten a helmet yet?
18:01 < Evie_> Good, Bee!  Are you feeling better from your last spill?
18:01 < the_Bee> not yet.
18:01 < Evie_> Get. A.   Helmet.  The life you save may be your own.
18:02 < jemler> i once met the Duchess of Pittsburgh at Tomlinson Run in Wva.
18:02 -!- derynifanatic64 [Mibbit@F8E647.70AEDE.F99969.D437C6] has joined #deryni_destinations
18:02 < KK> Boo-hiss!  You must get a helmet to protect your brain.  It's your brain bucket.
18:02 < jemler> hi df64
18:02 < Evie_> Hi, DF
18:02 < derynifanatic64> hi all
18:02 < Evie_> So, you managed to get  your password reset or whatever the issue was cleared up?
18:02 < the_Bee> I'll see if Ace Hardware has any.
18:02 < derynifanatic64> it was a tech issue with the site, but has been fixed
18:03 < KK> No, Evie.  Just don't know how.
18:03 < Evie_> I told DesertRose you have having logon problems, KK.
18:03 < KK> You'll probably need a sports shop that sells sports equipment.
18:03 < Evie_> But since bynw is here, if he delurks you can get him to reset your password as well.
18:03 < derynifanatic64> she told bynw and he got it worked out
18:04 < jemler> even if you only use a helmet for a skateboard, it should help.
18:04 < Evie_> ah, OK.  DF64 had a similar problem, KK, so it looks like bynw is the go-to guy for password issues.
18:04 < KK> Part of the problem is that I set that up so long ago, and so much has happened since then, I don't remember what I did.
18:04 < derynifanatic64> the login/off feature was very slow
18:04 < derynifanatic64> a glitch in the system
18:05 < the_Bee> I had to re-register at one site because I couldn't remember my password. They said they'd send me an email, but it naver came.
18:05 < jemler> i got one of those once, bee
18:05 < derynifanatic64> the rest of the site was working
18:05 < Evie_> Since I suspect bynw is away from the computer or in another window at the moment, I just sent him a PM, KK, so he'll know about your login issue if he misses seeing it in this window.
18:06 < the_Bee> So how'd you geet here today, KK?
18:06 < Evie_> You can get here without logging on the Forum
18:06 < KK> I can read everything, so I think I may still be logged on--which is what I'd like, for when I go to the site--but I also can't figure out how to make comments.
18:06 < derynifanatic64> the login/off feature was the only thing not working right
18:07 < derynifanatic64> to me anyway
18:07 < Evie_> You can read everything even if you're logged out, but you can only comment if you are logged on
18:07 < the_Bee> Many of my sites save my password, fortunately.
18:07 < KK> I have an MIRC link on my desktop, Bee, and I just click on that.  Much less fiddly than going thorugh the website.  Remember, I'm a curmugeonly Luddite.  :)
18:07 < Evie_> LOL!  You're like Alkari. :D
18:08 < jemler> i use mirc
18:08 < Evie_> You can set it up to remember your password.  It's fairly safe to do that on the Forum, since it's not like an online bank website that leads to your financials
18:08 < the_Bee> I use MIRC too.  The Deryni site has the smileys, but I don't like having the screen so small.
18:08 < KK> I'm dreading getting a new computer to replace this one, which is now nearly 7 years old, and running XP--which is no longer supported, I'm told by DS.  But that means I'll have to somehow get all my bookmarks and such transferred over to the new machine.
18:09 < Evie_> you'd probably  hate my netbook computer, Bee.  I have an 8 inch screen, and that's measuring it diagonally
18:09 -!- Alkari [Mibbit@OWIRCN-455a6c12.optusnet.com.au] has joined #deryni_destinations
18:09 < jemler> hi alkarui
18:09 < Alkari> Hi everyone.
18:09 < the_Bee> That's why I don't want an IPAD or IPOD or whatever.
18:09 < Alkari> Hi KK.
18:09 < Evie_> There should be a way to export bookmarks to a file and then import that file into your new computer
18:09 < the_Bee> hi Alkari
18:09 < derynifanatic64> hi alkari
18:09 < Evie_> Hi, Alkari
18:09 < KK> I'm sure there is--but I have no idea how to do that.
18:10 < the_Bee> I have a thumb drive I've been meaning to use to transfer stuff, but I can't seem to get around to doing it.
18:10 < Evie_> I've done it before, but so long ago I don't remember if I found the feature somewhere in the browser toolbar, or if I had to look up "Export bookmarks" on the Internet to find out how.
18:11 < Alkari> There is a way - I've just forgotten how.
18:11 < Alkari> They did it at work when they upgraded all our computers.
18:11 < the_Bee> Is there a way to connect two computers to one monitor?
18:11 < Evie_> Of course, the other way to do it is to get a computer savvy friend or family member to transfer the info over for you. :D
18:11 < KK> I'll probably take it to Staples and let their gurus set it up, since Cameron is now working in LA.
18:12 < KK> Or, we have a couple more computer shops here in town.
18:12 < Alkari> LOL Evie - of find a ten year-old kid!
18:12 < Evie_> I know you can connect two monitors to a computer, Bee.  Not sure about the other way around.
18:12 < derynifanatic64> or the 10 year old neighbor next door
18:12 < Alkari> OR find.
18:12 < KK> That's where I took it when I needed a new power supply, and a new mother board--two separate adventures.
18:12 < the_Bee> DoesStaples do that sort of thing if you didn't buy it from them?
18:12 < jemler> i have a kvm switch. it lets me attach a computer and, by pressing the switch, i see first one pc, the the other. about $25
18:12 < KK> Oh, sure.  YOu pay them, of ocurse, but they can and will do it.
18:13 < KK> I'm sure it's cheaper if you've bought the machine from them.
18:14 < Evie_> I recently switched from XP to Windows 7 at work, and fortunately Windows 7 was pretty easy to learn.  But what software do you write in?  MS Word?  The newer version of that might throw you for a loop if you are on an old version.
18:14 < the_Bee> especially if you also bought a service contract.
18:14 < Evie_> then again, ever since Annie introduced me to Scrivener, I prefer that for fiction writing, though I still do all my work-related stuff in Word.
18:14 < KK> I know the newest version of Word has some changes, but I shouldn't imagine it will be too difficult to learn.
18:14 < the_Bee> My Dell came with MS Word.
18:15 < KK> I have a Dell, and will probably get another one.
18:15 -!- Jerusha [Mibbit@OWIRCN-d91810f1.dsl.bell.ca] has joined #deryni_destinations
18:15 < the_Bee> HI Jerusha
18:15 < Evie_> I didn't have too much trouble learning the new version, but then again, I'm not  afraid to poke around in menus to see what things do.
18:15 < jemler> hi jerusha
18:15 < Alkari> No, WOrd 7 is fine - I haven't caught up with alol the changes, but I just went ahead and learnt what I has to as I went along
18:15 < Jerusha> Hi Everyone!
18:15 < derynifanatic64> hi jerusha
18:16 < Alkari> And WIndows 7 lets you read and save files in earlier versions of Word
18:16 < Evie_> Hi, Jerusha
18:16 < Alkari> Hi Jerusha
18:16 < KK> I do know that the newer Word files have a .docx suffix, rather than .doc, but I believe that conversion hardware is built in, so you can still read older files, and convert them--once you aren't using the old Word anymore, because it can't read the newer files.  Ah, the price of progress.
18:16 < Jerusha> *Jerusha offers a plate of warm M&M cookies*
18:17 < Alkari> When go go to initially save a document in Word 7, it asks you whether you want to save it in WOrd 7 or an earlier version, or a PDF file
18:17 < Evie_> Yum, Jerusha!
18:17  * the_Bee thanks Jerusha and nibbles on a cookie.
18:17 < KK> I assume you can set it up for a default save, so that you don't have to make that decision every time.
18:17 < Alkari> Yes KK - exactly that.  And you can save a document in 2 versions so people who haven't upgraded to Word 7 can read it if necessary
18:17  * Evie_ takes a cookie and sets it to one side to cool slightly, since her house is still on low-powered a/c
18:18 < KK> How hot did it get today where you are, Evie?  They rpedicted 90 here but it only made 82 here in Staunton.
18:18 < Evie_> It's in the 90s, not sure how high exactly
18:18 < Alkari> The defails save is Word 7 of course, but when you click the drop down menu to save, rather than just use the toolbar icon,  it asks you what version
18:18  * the_Bee stes out tea and coffee, warm and iced depending on your weather.
18:18 < KK> Yike!
18:19 < jemler> it's 81 here now
18:19 < Evie_> My phone app says 94 was our high, but it's around 91 now
18:19 < KK> It's 78 here.
18:19 < derynifanatic64> and florida has ts storm beryl heading for us
18:19 < the_Bee> How is your autumn weather, Alkari?
18:19 < Evie_> We have some a/c, but we are having to supplement it with the ceiling fan
18:19 < Jerusha> We are a pleasant 18 C.
18:20 < KK> Yep.  I called my dad, but he's in Ft. Lauderdale, so all they'll get is some rainy weather--maybe.
18:20 < Evie_> another week of this heat, low a/c, and the onset of hot flashes, and I may move in with Jerusha. ;-)
18:20 < Jerusha> The spare room will be ready.
18:20 < derynifanatic64> probably will only be a lot of rain tonight and tomorrow
18:20 < the_Bee> Where do you live, Jerusha?
18:20 < Jerusha> North Bay, Ontario
18:20 < Evie_> I hope it's a large one.  I'd be bringing an entire Gwyneddan Court in 1:6 scale. :D
18:20 < Alkari> LOL - where I was on the weekend, it was only about 10C (50F) with incredibly strong biting winds.
18:21 < Evie_> I'd enjoy 50F at the moment.  I'd just pile on a cloak or some blankets. :D
18:21 < KK> They say Memorial Day is the official beginning of summer, so in honor of that I changed to shorts instead of long trousers today: my summer uniform when I'm working.
18:21 < Alkari> So strong that people didn't bring their horses for the competition because it would have been too dangerous on the raods with horse trailers
18:21 < Evie_> How's the writing going, KK?
18:21 < Jerusha> If you come, I'll have to try and find the Queen Guenivere Barbie costume I still have somewhere.
18:21 < Evie_> The vintage one, Jerusha?  Blue and red?
18:22 < Alkari> Is that for Araxie?
18:22 < Evie_> Or is it the newer one that's a pale blue?
18:22 < Jerusha> Yep. But I think I lost the hat somewhere
18:22 < Evie_> I've seen the vintage one on eBay. Very nice
18:23 < the_Bee> Pale blue sounds more flattering to Araixie, I think.
18:23 < Jerusha> It's a very luxurious velvet.
18:23 < Evie_> Speaking of Araxie, I'm sitting on my hands trying not to buy a Viking Barbie, because she has pretty long golden braids
18:23 < KK> Well, the red <is> a Haldane color, though.
18:24 < KK> Have they figured out how to make the braids not so fat?
18:24 < Evie_> Ignore the cheesy outfit:  http://funnymissvinyl.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/viking.jpg
18:24 < the_Bee> Is the Barbie on the same scale as your other dolls, Evie?
18:24 < Evie_> Yes, don't root the hair in so thickly.
18:25 < Evie_> If you were to unbraid this doll's hair, it would look pretty sparse compared to one whose hair is left loose
18:25 < the_Bee> She looks very regal.
18:25 < Evie_> Yes, I'm working in 1:6, or "playscale", which is Barbie/Ken scale.
18:25 < Evie_> Yes, she's lovely, but the problem is finding her at a decent price.
18:26 < derynifanatic64> i'd better go, beryl is hitting orlando right now
18:26 < derynifanatic64> see you next week
18:26 < KK> Good braids.  But I'm sure you're right, that the hair would be pretty sparse if unbraided and let loose.  But those braids are a better scale for Dhugal's.
18:26 < Jerusha> Stay safe, DF64
18:26 < Evie_> Though she's not as expensive as the Romeo/Juliet dolls
18:26 < the_Bee> see you later, DF.  Take care.
18:26 < Evie_> See you, DF
18:26 < Evie_> stay safe
18:26 < KK> Good luck, DF.
18:26 < jemler> nite df
18:26 < Alkari> Bye DF
18:27 < Evie_> Fortunately my MIL is up here this week and not in FL
18:27 < Jerusha> Yes, we need a good border braid for Dhugal
18:27 < Evie_> KK, I started on the rerooting thing today.  I've plucked all of the hair out of the test head
18:27 < jemler> remember, it's four strands!
18:27 < Evie_> that was an ordeal
18:27 < the_Bee> Just how long is Dhugal's border braid?
18:27 < Evie_> Is Dhugal's braid a 4 strand braid also, or just the Gabrilite braids?
18:27 < KK> It <is> a pretty cheesy outfit, and not many joints.  She also suffers from Giraffe-neck.
18:28 < Evie_> I can do a 4 strand braid, but it would help to know that. :D
18:28 < the_Bee> Who has a giraffe neck??
18:28 < KK> I rather imagine it's a 3-strand braid.
18:28 < KK> The Viking lady.
18:28 < Evie_> LOL @ Giraffe neck.  Yeah, that might change on a different body.  That's another factor; to turn her into Araxie, I'd have to buy two dolls, not just one.
18:29 < KK> The rerooting sounds tedious.  OTOH, pulling out the old hair might be....satisfying.
18:29 < Evie_> and I'm beginning to understand why doll collectors joke that this hobby is a bit like a crack addiction, and about as expensive. :D
18:29 < Evie_> LOL!  I'm wearing crafter's gloves to ease the cramping in my hands now, KK.
18:30 < KK> Oh, doing things teeny is definitely addictive.
18:30 < Evie_> I spent over an hour sitting in the bathroom over the wastebasket, yanking out tiny tufts of hair with tweezers and a crochet hook
18:30 < Jerusha> I can see action Duncan saying "Please, don't let me be next!"
18:30 < Evie_> and it isn't nearly as easy as the tutorials make it seem.
18:30 < jemler> diudn't that hurt, Evie?
18:30 < Alkari> Yes.  (She says, looking at her embroidery and tapestry 'stuff' drawer, which she dares not open ...)
18:31 -!- derynifanatic64 [Mibbit@F8E647.70AEDE.F99969.D437C6] has quit [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client]
18:31 < Jerusha> Kind of like Pandora's box, Alkari?
18:31 < KK> WWell, you wouldn't want the hair to come out too easily, else you'd have lots of baldy dolls.
18:31 < Alkari> Yes!!  :D
18:31 < Evie_> that reminds me, Alkari, I recently saw a book somewhere that was needlework patterns for medieval tapestries.
18:31 < Evie_> True, but for a while I was wondering if it would come out at all
18:32 < Alkari> ACK!   DON'T Tempt me that way - I have a gorgeous one that I haven't started yet - thjough at least I found my tapestry frames when I tidied up my cupboards ...
18:32 < KK> How about <miniature> medieval tapestries?  I know they do exist--teeny rugs, at least.
18:32 < Evie_> and the scalp holes look impossibly small.  I'm wondering how I'm going to get a needle or hook through it
18:32 < Alkari> LOL @ KK - even my petit point is hidden away!
18:32 < KK> I'm sure it was done by a machine originally
18:32 < Evie_> I used a "carpet" bookmark for the table runner in the dinner scene photos
18:32 < the_Bee> I had a doll as a child with the hair just stapled on.  When my little sister tore it off, I gave the doll a sex-change.
18:32 < Jerusha> Jerusha envisions a medieval tapestry on the back of a doll's head.
18:32 < Alkari> Though I did get my sewing machine out the other week.
18:33 < KK> Boy dolls were very scarce when we were kids.
18:33 < Alkari> As I had to do stuff for Mum, then kept doing "stuff' for me ...
18:33 < Alkari> When I was in Atlanta, I went to THE most fabulous doll shop
18:33 < Alkari> Owned by an amazing old lady, who had a fantastic collection on display as well as for sale
18:33 < Evie_> Ooh, I need to find out where, since I'll be in Atlanta in September
18:34 < KK> I had an Ilya Kuryakin doll when I was in college.  Of course, it wasn't a doll then; it was a fan thing.
18:34 < Evie_> There was an Ilya doll?  :D
18:34 < Alkari> SHe had these gorgoues Gone with the Wind dolls, in their original boxes
18:34 < KK> Yep.
18:34 < Jerusha> Jerusha is green with envy at Illya doll.
18:34 < Alkari> And amazing Shirley Temple ones
18:34 < Alkari> Lots of boy dols too.
18:34 < KK> My mother would love those.  She's a major fan.
18:35 < Evie_> Hm...I can see a Simon Illyan figure in my future.  (Bujold character, physical description based on Kuryakin.)
18:35 < KK> Shirley Temple, that is.
18:35 < Alkari> It was in a suburb south of the actual city area - it was near McDonough
18:35 < Evie_> Here comes Luke to sit on my chest and share his body warmth with me.
18:35 < KK> Speaking of Ilya, it appears that Ducky may have snuffed it in the season finale of NCIS.  Booooo!
18:36 < Alkari> About 20 mins south of Atlanta CBD
18:36 < KK> But he's got to be close to 80; probably wants to retire, at least a little.
18:36 < the_Bee> Don't Tell me! I haven't seen it yet.
18:36 < Jerusha> No, I think he signed for another two years.  But it did look bad.
18:36 < Alkari> Oh no!!   They can't kill off Illya in NCIS
18:36 < KK> Oh, good!  If he's signed for another 2 years, we're safe!
18:37 < the_Bee> WAs it like Caitlin's death a few years ago?  on camera?
18:37 < Alkari> LOL.  If you are watching Game of Thrones though you know never to bet on anyone's survival!!  :D
18:37 < KK> An apparent heart attack--but we just see him sink into the surf.
18:37 < Alkari> Oh,he will be rescued for sure.  :)
18:37 < KK> I am, and tonight's in the next to last for this season.
18:37 < the_Bee> ah, a cliff-hanger.
18:38 < KK> Well, they've set this up over several episodes, getting his affairs in order and such.  I think he knows he's got something wrong.
18:38 < the_Bee> Ducky or MacCallum?
18:39 < KK> Ducky.
18:39 < Jerusha> Ducky
18:40 < KK> Ew, I've got a stink bug buzzing around my overhead light.  Hate 'em!  THey'sre so obnoxious.
18:40 < Dennis> How goes the book? Is it 1103 yet?
18:41 < KK> Only 1101.
18:41 < Evie_> KK, is this the figure you had?  http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAN-FROM-UNCLE-ILLYA-KURYAKIN-WITH-BOX-/230785253880?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item35bbdf81f8
18:41 < Evie_> and what's going on with our Deryni boys this week?
18:41 < Alkari> ALaric still in one piece, we hope?!!
18:41 < Evie_> No, KK killed Alaric, but he's resurrected in time to meet the Marluk. ;-)
18:42 < Jerusha> Yike!
18:42 < KK> Oh, my word!  THere he is!  That's the exact one I had.
18:42 < Dennis> Alaric meets the Marluk: "Hi! I'm Alaric Morgan!" "Hello, young Alaric. I'm the Marluk, but my friends call me Hogan."
18:42 < the_Bee> Who played Napoleon Solo? I can't recall.
18:42 < KK> Alaric is just in the process of assimilating into the king's household, and has a temporary roommate.
18:42 < Jerusha> Robert Vaughn
18:43 < the_Bee> ah, thanks.
18:43 < Jerusha> Who is the temporary roommate?
18:43 < KK> He of the obnoxious legal service commercials.  Tell them you mean business!
18:43 < Dennis> Also, the last living member of the original Magnificent Seven.
18:43 < the_Bee> Who's Alaric's roommate?
18:43 < Evie_> LOL!  I read that as "Alaric...has a temporary roommate, Robert Vaughn."  :D
18:43 < KK> Prince Cormac, youngest brother of the King of Howicce and Llannedd.
18:44 < Dennis> Cuan's father, yes?
18:44 < KK> Yes.
18:44 < Dennis> Cool.
18:44 < Jerusha> Is Alaric a senior page or a squire now?
18:44 < Alkari> Good
18:44 < Alkari> Hope e's a nice guy!
18:45 < KK> He's still a page.  Yes, Cormac is nice.  And Paget Sullivan, who's now a squire, is a close friend of Alaric.  THey play Cardounet together.
18:47 < Alkari> Glad he has some friends
18:47 < Evie_> Duncan's probably still home in Cassan with Jared, I take it?
18:47 < Evie_> Because you know I'd ask. :D
18:47 < KK> Oh, yes.
18:47 < Evie_> Do we see more of the Arilans in this story?
18:47 < Evie_> I like them all, not just Denis
18:48 < Alkari> LOL - trust you, Evie!
18:48 < the_Bee> How old is Bronwyn now?  and wht's she doing?
18:48  * Evie_ grins at Alkari
18:48 < KK> A little.  Jamyl goes off to marry a girl at home, but he doesn't bring her to court.
18:48 < KK> Bronwyn is living at Culdi with Vera and family.
18:48 < Evie_> Alix, or has her name changed since the Codex?
18:49 < KK> I think that's her name.  I have no reason to change that.
18:49 < Dennis> Has Seisyll shuffled off this mortal coil yet or is he still going strong?
18:49 < KK> Bronwyn just turned 5.
18:49 < Evie_> Jamyl's entry always gives me a giggle.  4 stairstep kids and then the poor man dies, leaving poor Alix to cope.  :D
18:50 < KK> Seisyll died between books.
18:50 < Evie_> (I've written fanfic about those "stairstep kids", btw, since they're all of Kelson's generation and a perfect age for post-1128 stories.)
18:50 < Jerusha> Denis probably nodded sagely and made himself scarce
18:50 < Evie_> Nooo, I liked Seisyll!
18:50 -!- Duck [Mibbit@OWIRCN-7b684795.bigpond.net.au] has joined #deryni_destinations
18:50 < jemler> hi duck!
18:50 < the_Bee> g'day duck!
18:50 < KK> Hello, Duck!
18:51 < Duck> morning people
18:51  * Alkari waves hello to Duck
18:51 < Jerusha> Not Siesyll!
18:51 < Evie_> hi, Duck
18:51 < Dennis> Alas. And Jamyl took his place on the Council, I guess. Who took Michon's place?
18:51 < Dennis> Hi, Duck!
18:51 < Duck> how fares all and sundry?
18:51 < Jerusha> Hi Duck!
18:51 < KK> Can't remember offhand; haven't been playing iwth the CC for a while.
18:51 < the_Bee> pretty well here
18:52 < the_Bee> ho are you, Duck?
18:52 < jemler> robert vaugh played solo
18:52 < Alkari> I think something drastic should happen to the CC after KKB - they need a complete shakeup  :D
18:52 < KK> We were just talking about another Duck, as in Dr. Mallard.
18:52 < KK> That must have been the sumoning spell.
18:52 < Evie_> Like an  earthquake hitting the CC's hidden chamber while they're in session, Alkari? That would be a literal "shakeup."  :D
18:53 < Jerusha> With Vivienne's death, that meant a significant change to the CC
18:53 < jemler> Duck, your real name wouldn't be David McCallum, would it? :)
18:53 < Duck> not charles duckens?
18:54 < jemler> we're talking about Ducky on NCIS, and you show up. Coincidence?
18:54 < the_Bee> Do you get NCIS on Oz TV?
18:54 < Duck> we do get it, usually with episodes shown out of order / season
18:55 < Alkari> Yes, we get NCIS bu not sure what series we are up to in comparison to USA.   Especially as its on free  air TV and not cable.
18:55 < Duck> i've seen a couple of episodes - its got a cute bird in it hasn't it?
18:55 < Evie_> I've never seen NCIS, and I really should, partly since that's the one with Mark Harmon in it, isn't it?  And also a friend of mine says that Abby reminds her of me for some obscure reason.  :D
18:55 < the_Bee> Abby?
18:55 < the_Bee> the cute bird
18:56 < jemler> Well, Evie, let's follow thru. How many tattoos do you have?
18:56 < Jerusha> Forensic genius in black leather
18:56 < Alkari> But now ALL the shows are getting those "look weird but really experts and have hearts of gold" women - it's getting a ckiche
18:56 < Alkari> * cliche
18:56 < Evie_> LOL!  None.  I think she meant personality wise, not so much appearance
18:56 < Evie_> although I used to wear black almost exclusively
18:56 < Alkari> I like the UK series "Silent Witness"
18:57 < Jerusha> Darkling phase?  :)
18:57 < jemler> like Greg on CSI. On Hawai'i Five-0, it's Masi Oka (Max, the ME)
18:58 < Evie_> brb phone
18:59 < Evie_> back...was DD telling me that DS and I are expected at the MIL's house for dinner tonight
18:59 < Evie_> ah well...she has proper air conditioning. :D
18:59 < KK> Aha.  But at least you don't have to cook.
19:00 < Evie_> there is that too.  She's a good cook.
19:00 < the_Bee> leaving now? or later?
19:00 < Evie_> and I can bring the littles with me and sew there
19:00 < Evie_> later. In a few minutes
19:00 < Evie_> I'm in no rush
19:00 < KK> Tee-hee.  What do they think of hte littles?
19:00 < Alkari> MIL doesn't think you should be doing "something else"?
19:00 < jemler> Proper A/C? Do you have DH standing by with a palm frond or something? :)
19:00 < Jerusha> With their little dinner set to join in for the meal?
19:01 < Evie_> She hasn't met the littles yet, but she and my FIL used to do model trains.  Not the very small kind, but the sort that you lay track in the back yard for and  can ride.
19:01 < Alkari> I don't know that I would turn Alaric loose with MIL ...  :D
19:01 < Evie_> So she'll probably not be too freaked over something more "normal" like dolls. :D
19:01 < Alkari> rofl
19:02 < Jerusha> That sound like "O guage".   My Dad and I built tracks in the basement when I was growing up.
19:02 < Evie_> If she does say something cutting about them, I'll just switch the conversation to trains. :D
19:02 < jemler> meaning we're (or,at least me) aren't 'normal'? :)
19:02 < Evie_> O sounds about right.
19:02 < Evie_> She's got a friend who has track laid all around his yard, circling the house, and you can hop on the train and take tours.
19:03 < Alkari> I know someone like that.  When you press the front door bell, an old steam train whistle goes off!
19:03 < jemler> the addams family
19:03 < Evie_> or at least he had the train up and running about 20 years or so ago. Not sure if it's there anymore.  But that's the scale of hobby trains they did.
19:03 < Alkari> He has a very understanding wife, luckily!!
19:04 < Alkari> Stem train fanatics can be a crazy bunch
19:04 < Evie_> part of the reason MIL bought the house she got up here is that you look out  her living room window and front door and see a train track and a lovely farm across the street, in the near distance
19:04 < Evie_> So she can hear the train go by.  It reminds her of her late husband.
19:05 < jemler> near distance. honest politician. virgin bride. oxymorons! :)
19:05  * bynw is back from store trip ... it's way way too hot out
19:05 < Jerusha> My Dad enjoys the train track across from his house.  He still enjoys watching the trains.
19:05 < jemler> who wants to post the log?
19:05 < KK> I love tains, and we have a lot that go through Staunton.  My mother is also a train fan--yay, Amtrak!
19:06 < Evie_> She sews too.  So maybe if I bring the sewing over there, we'll have something in common to talk about besides how much DH and I are screwing up our kids and how the whole world is going to hell in a handbasket. :D
19:06 < jemler> i hopped a train once or twice.
19:06 < Jerusha> Ah,family is a wonderful thing! :)
19:06 < Dennis> I take the train from Boston to New York and back every six weeks or so.
19:07 < jemler> i was on a flight from Houston to Chicago. when we landed, the pilot said "Welcome to Denver"!
19:07 < Evie_> I nearly had a chance to take a summer vacation on a train ride across the country with MIL and FIL, but then I got pregnant with DD and had to cancel out because the planned trip was too close to my due date.
19:08 < jemler> so, plan it now. you've got a while.
19:08 < KK> My mother and I came back from San Francisco on the train.  Great fun!
19:08 < Evie_> actually, I'm hoping if I do take that much time off for a vacation, it will be to Europe instead.
19:09 < Evie_> DH has never seen castles, and he wants to see some
19:09 < jemler> did you hear about the girl who had to leave a cruise ship, because they lost her dialysis machine?!
19:09 < Jerusha> I would like to do that, too.
19:09 < Evie_> and our best friends have offered both our children a week to anywhere in the world they want to go to when they graduate from HS
19:09 < the_Bee> no, Jemler.  When?
19:09 < Evie_> ack, jemler!
19:09 < jemler> give him a picture of your house. a mans home is his castle.
19:09 < KK> True, you could see a lot of cstles for what it costs to come across country on the train.  Not a cheap way to travel, if you take a sleeping compartment--and I certainly don't fancy sitting up to sleep.
19:10 < jemler> brb
19:10 < Evie_> LOL!  No, jemler, in our case a man's home is his fixer-upper project.  Not a vacation spot. :D
19:10 < Alkari> Yes @ cost KK - though one day I amplanning to do that trip across all or part of Canada by train
19:10 < Jerusha> That could also be some castles, these days
19:10 < Alkari> ANd I have always, always wanted to do the tranbs-Siberian!  :D
19:10 < KK> How about the Orient Express?!
19:11 < Evie_> MIL did an Alaskan cruise a few years back that included a short trip on a train somewhere in Canada, i think.  She really enjoyed  it.
19:11 < Alkari> Yes, that too !!
19:11 < Alkari> With or without Poirot and a murder  ;)
19:11 < Evie_> that would be nice
19:11 < Evie_> the Orient Express,that is, not a murder. :D
19:11 < Jerusha> Poirot and the murder?
19:11 < Alkari> And I want to do the two big ones here in Oz
19:11 < the_Bee> My parents did quite a bit of traveling after they retired.
19:11 < Alkari> Tyhe Indian Pacific, and the Ghan.
19:12 < jemler> here's the story: http://travel.usatoday.com/cruises/post/2012/05/carnival-destiny-missing-dialysis-machine/700715/1
19:12 < Evie_> I want to go back to Warwick and Leeds Castles, see some Welsh ones, and definitely see York again.
19:13 < jemler> KK, an you give Evie directions to your old caslte in ireland?
19:13 < Evie_> especially now that they've expanded the Jorvik Viking Centre, which was in its infancy when I went there
19:13 < Evie_> I saw some pictures of KK's old castle online recently, in fact
19:13 < Evie_> DH was quite envious. :D
19:14 < KK> I suspect it looks quite a bit different from when we were there.  New owners have been making "improvements" that appall us.
19:14 < Jerusha> My someday dream trip is visiting the castles in the Bristish Isles
19:14 < Jerusha> British
19:14 < the_Bee> what about Schwannstein Castle?
19:15  * Evie_ wonders what the Customs officials would think of me bringing some 1:6 scale Deryni into England
19:15 < jemler> 'oh look, she's bringing the Borrowers back home'!
19:15 < Evie_> I've been to Neuschwanstein.  It's lovely, but I prefer the older ones.
19:16 < Evie_> though I'd like to see Chillon in Switzerland again
19:16 < Evie_> LOL, jemler!  I loved those books as a kid!
19:16 < jemler> lol
19:17 < jemler> i saw the movie with In Holm as Pod. but i can't find the anywhere!
19:18 < Evie_> I saw that too
19:18 < the_Bee> I saw the Borrowers; it may have been on PBS.
19:19 < Evie_> I heard there's a new one coming out soon
19:19 < Duck> miyazaki has just done an adaptation of it
19:19 <~bynw> appologies to anyone who has noticed a slow response from the forums the last few days. it seems our dns settings were messed up causing terrible lag. all fixed now :)
19:19 <~bynw> duck!!
19:19 < the_Bee> good to hear, bynw
19:20 < Evie_> well, it looks like I might need to tear myself away from chat, since I think the MIL is expecting DS and I over in about 15 minutes or so.
19:20 < jemler> don't speed!
19:20 < Jerusha> Have a good meal and a good evening.
19:20 < Jerusha> O
19:21 < KK> Have a nice evening, and see you next week.
19:21 < Evie_> I won't speed.  Though DS might, since he'll probably insist on driving. :D
19:21 < the_Bee> bye Evie.
19:21 < jemler> he'snly 14 isn't he?
19:21 < Jerusha> Oops.  What I meant to say is I'm sure Alaric will be a charming dinner guest.
19:21 < KK> On that note, I probably ought to go, too.  I need to make some supper before Game of Kings.
19:21 < the_Bee> The animal lovers might want to check this out: www.shelterme.com
19:21 < Evie_> I should be here next week. Parents will be in town, so there's a slight chance I'll be out at chat time, but I'll try to be home.
19:21 < jemler> Game of Thrones
19:21 < Alkari> But at present its all kings!
19:22 < the_Bee> nighters, KK.  Havwe a good week and good writing.
19:22 < Evie_> No,  jemler, DD is 14.  DS is 17
19:22 < jemler> i'll get the second season when it comes out.
19:22 < KK> Yes, Game of Thrones.  Similar.
19:22 < jemler> ok. got the mixed up.
19:22 < Alkari> Yes, KK - and tonight is supposedly the really BIG episode written by George Martin himself
19:22 < jemler> my bad
19:22 < KK> Oooo!
19:22 < Alkari> The Battle of Blackwater
19:22 < Alkari> They had to get extra fundiung to film it properly, apparently
19:22 < KK> Then, I shall definitely boogie.
19:22 < Alkari> So go and enjoy, I hope
19:23 < jemler> spoiler alert (from a guy who's reading the books)
19:23 < jemler> nite kk
19:23  * KK teps onto her Portal, waves good night, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
19:23 < Evie_> goodnight, all!
19:23 < Alkari> Bye KK and thanks for coming
19:23 < Jerusha> Enjoy, KK
19:23 < Alkari> Enjoy GoT
19:23 < the_Bee> thanks for coming, KK
19:23 < Evie_> Oh, bynw, I take it you're posting the log, since you're here tonight and DR isn't?
19:23 < jemler> happy memorial day folks
