18:26 < Evie> Has your mom fully moved into her new place yet?

18:26 < KK> Still unpacking.

18:27 < Evie> How's the book coming along, or still too busy with unpacking to get back to it yet?

18:27 < KK> The bed has been liberated and made up, the bathroom is enterable, and there's some stuff in the kitchen cabinets.

18:28 < KK> We're seeing more carpet every day.

18:28 < KK> She can eat downstairs, but she wants to do breakfast in her own place.

18:31 < KK> We went to Bed Bath & Beyond today to buy narrow bins for her kitchen drawers, which are the narrowest I've ever seen in a kitchen.  Today I asked the weekend concierge who designed the kitchens, because it can't have been a woman, or a cook.

18:31 < KK> There are about 80 now.
18:31 < Evie> I have that same problem with my kitchen drawers, KK, and came to the same conclusion about them.
18:32 < jemler> women like lots of space.

18:32 < Evie> My entire kitchen, I think, was designed by a man whose wife did all of the cooking, and he didn't bother to consult with her first. 
18:32 < the_Bee> I hope they have common areas where people can get together.
18:32 < KK> The inside width is just under 7 inches.  Nothing is made to that width, with compartments.
18:32 < jemler> the more space they have, the more junk they buy (like 500 pairs of shoes)
18:33 < Alkari> LOL.  That's why it is fun to plan your own kitchen from the start

18:33 < Alkari> My current kitchen was built in 1959 and has lots of little cupboards.
18:34 < Evie> if you're going by shoe count, jemler, my DH is going to be awfully surprised to discover that I'm a man.  Also if one judges by how much I pack for a trip.  He packs 3 times more than I do!
18:34 < jemler> no i don't like mackerel enough to pay 50 pounds for it
18:34 < Alkari> I couldn't afford to rip the whole thing out when I first moved in, so all I did was paint them and change the knobs

18:35 < Alkari> Yes - but it is going to be SO nice to get proper ones and wider drawers 
18:35 < jemler> when my sister moved in to her house, she found the old owners had painted the oak cabinets in the kitchen white.
18:35 < Evie> But a kitchen with only 6 feet of counterspace on one side, two of which are covered by a microwave, and only a foot of counterspace on either side of the stove, you surely have to admit is a bit TOO small even for a male cook?

18:36 < the_Bee> When they build apartments with shelves to the ceiling, I think they sould include a folding stapladder.
18:36 < Alkari> Yes KK - I have just started on the long process - kitchen, bathroom and separate toilet
18:36 < Alkari> I will just have bulkeads between the top of the cupboards and thre celiing Bee. 
18:36 < Evie> I assume you mean a toilet separate from the bathing area, and not that you're going to have an outhouse built. 
18:36 < KK> I sympathize.  I've now done4 kitchens in the past 6 years.
18:37 < Alkari> Difficult to build an outside toilet if you are five floors up in an apartment  :p
18:37 < KK> True.
18:37 < jemler> i'm glad you said that evie. now they can throw fish at ypu!
18:37 < Alkari> Each kitchen is a "learning experience" they say!!

18:37 < Evie> You could hang a bucket from a hook on the wall below the windowsill, but that's rather extreme.

18:38 < Alkari> The people down beloe wouldn't understand my fascination with  medieval sanitation methods and slop bucktes ..
18:38 < Evie> Outside, jemler. Otherwise it would be an indoor toilet.

18:40  * Evie fantasizes briefly about getting DH to build a closestool that disassembles for shipping, and Alkari's reaction to receiving said gift. 
18:41 < Alkari> There's room to instal it at Mum's place.   Up in the attic where we used to keep the skeleton.
18:41 < the_Bee> I thought skeletons belonged in closets.
18:41 < Evie> If it wouldn't be prohibitively expensive, I could probably talk DH into doing that.  He's got a quirky enough sense of humor, not to mention the skills.
18:42 < Alkari> well, thgis was a sort of little dormer window in the attic - the skeleton looked really good when it was backlit

18:48 < Evie> I dreamed there was a Deryni board game, and there was some sort of "shiral crystal" in the center of it that would tell you your next move.  Or something of that sort.  The details are foggy now.

18:49 < Evie> LOL!  No, my memory of the dream is.
18:49 < Evie> I just remember that I was playing the Arilan piece because someone else had got to Duncan first. :-(

18:50 < Evie> and when it was my turn, I had to do something that the golden crystal ball in the middle told me to do, but when I woke up I couldn't remember exactly how that part worked.

18:54 < Evie> Well, as Alkari's fond of pointing out. "Evie" is short for "Evil."  Muahaha.
18:54 < the_Bee> You know, I think it might be possible to make a game like that. Use a "shiral" crystal like a magic 8-ball to determine your moves.

18:55 < Evie> That's a thought. Or make it like the dome in the "Trouble" board game that you push down on to get it to roll the dice
18:55 < Evie> which could be black and white like Ward Cubes.
18:55 < the_Bee> The game could be some kind of quest or journey.
18:55 < KK> Keep working on that.  It could be an interesting game.
18:56 < Evie> actually, if I were going to play a Deryni game, it would be the Deryni Adventures RPG or some variation on that. 
18:56 < Alkari> on the way, they could find various 'lost' Deryni texts or artifacts
18:56 < Evie> something more storytelling-inspired and less rules-bound than a board game
18:56 < KK> Oh, I may not be here next week.  I realized last night that the con I thought was in mid-March is actually next weekend: SheVaCon, in Roanoke.  And since I'm one of the author guests, I sorta hafta go.  ;-)
