18:15 -!- KK [~kkurtz@OWIRCN-b7b1e86b.va.comcast.net] has joined #Deryni_Destinations
18:15 < derynifanatic64> hi all!
18:15 < jemler> hi KK
18:15 < Alkari> Hello KK
18:15 < KK> Hi, guys.
18:15 < Shiral> Thanks. Mr. Paintbrush and Mrs. Camera have been busy
18:15 < derynifanatic64> hi kk
18:15 < Evie> hi
18:15 < Shiral> Hi KK
18:15 < the_Bee> hi KK
18:15 < Jerusha> Hi KK
18:15 <~DesertRose> Hi KK.
18:15 < jojo> hi kk
18:16 < KK> I'd've have been here sooner, but I was looking at Evie's most recent posts on the dressing of Duncan.
18:16 < Evie> Shiral has started her Hagios project, KK, and I've got a Barbie Doll head stuck on a pike.  But no, I've not shifted allegiance to Wencit.  I'm dyeing hair. :D
18:16 < Alkari> LOL
18:16 < Evie> LOL!
18:16 < Jerusha> Eek!
18:16 < Shiral> https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Nzxx-qYV9w37W-GTNqg3E2QWjoY1IljijgI_BKvQuOM/edit#slide=id.g34c5849_1_7
18:16 < KK> Whose hair?
18:17 < derynifanatic64> not mine
18:17 < Evie> Alkari has sent me some fabric and trim from Australia that I'm hoping will get here soon, and I also went fabric shopping yesterday for more project clothing
18:17 < the_Bee> Shiral and Evie, do you have links for those of us who came in late?
18:17 < Shiral> That's the direct Link to the Hagios Project on Googledocs.
18:17  * Shiral  points upward
18:18 < Alkari> Looks great Shiral
18:18 < Evie> Hang on, Bee.  KK, right now I'm just experimenting to see if I can turn a blonde Barbie spare head to a dark auburn one, but if this works out and looks nice, she'll be one of my fanfic characters from my current story in progress.  A teacher at the new Schola in 1136.
18:18 < Shiral> And I don't have heads on pikes, but maybe I could add a little Mahael and Branyng on stakes.... =o)
18:18 < Alkari> Oh yes Shiral - they would be some nice 'extras' :D
18:19 <~DesertRose> LOL, Shiral, Festil was just asking about that when I was showing him the pics.
18:19 < Evie> Bee, here's the link to the Duncan Action Figure project: http://www.rhemuthcastle.com/index.php?topic=844.0
18:19 <~DesertRose> He says "Hi, y'all."
18:19 < Jerusha> There's nothing like a little local colour
18:19 < Shiral> But let me finish the Hagios first!
18:19 < Evie> It looks great so far, Shiral
18:19 < Alkari> And if you read Evie's latest fic, you will know who her female character is
18:19 < Alkari> KK, how's your own writing going?
18:19 < Shiral> A character who will hopefully LOSE her head =o)
18:20 < the_Bee> My computer is taking forever to open websites today.
18:20 < Evie> I don't know why I'm bothering to get the hair color right for a figure who will spend most of her time wearing a veil and a wimple.  *eyeroll at myself*
18:20 <~DesertRose> Because you're obsessed.  :)
18:20 < derynifanatic64> :D
18:20 < Evie> there is that. :D
18:20 <~DesertRose> :d
18:20 <~DesertRose> :D
18:20 < the_Bee> You're oCD--like me.
18:20 < Evie> KK, where are our heroes nowadays?  In CM3 I mean?
18:21 < KK> Wow both of you have been busy!
18:21 < Shiral> If I'm not careful, I'll have to make all the figures for Liam's Killijalay! =o)
18:21 <~DesertRose> :)
18:21 < Evie> I'm going to be busier this week. It's dawned on me that Easter is next weekend, and Duncan's vestments aren't done yet.
18:22 < Shiral> And then Furstan's tomb...
18:22 < Evie> you know you want to do that, Shiral.  :D
18:22 < Shiral> I'm busy, not insane....yet
18:22 < KK> My heroes are still where they were last week.  I've been working on taxes--still!
18:22 < Evie> You also want to figure out how to do a diorama of a Moveable Ward
18:22 < derynifanatic64> :(
18:23 < Evie> ack!  Taxes...numbers...we hates them, they hurt.... ;-)
18:23 < derynifanatic64> unless you get a refund
18:23 < Shiral> I can't blow bubbles that will last long enough to form that, Evie!
18:23 < Evie> True, DF
18:23 < Evie> Sure you can!  You..um...get those plastic bubbles....no, wait, those pop....
18:24 < Evie> There used to be this stuff that would dry a bit like cellophane, but that only worked between wire loops, not in 3D.
18:24 < Shiral> And then I'd have to build a little Nikolaseum and a field of Furstan tombs....
18:24 < Evie> and that's a problem why exactly?
18:24 < Alkari> Just take over a whole room and do a scale model of Beldour  :D
18:24 < Jerusha> Sounds like a plan:D
18:24 < Shiral> BUt I live in a one room apartment!
18:25 < Shiral> And I have a curiuous, destructive young cat!
18:25 < Evie> Yes!  You see, there are several tiny scale models of Jerusalem, but how many people have a scale model of Beldour? You could be the first!
18:25 < the_Bee> So live in a scale model of Beldour--with modern conveniences.
18:25 < Shiral> More like a scale model of Torenthaly
18:25 < Alkari> Never let yourself be daunted by a challenge, Shiral!
18:25 < Shiral> I'll get back to you when I've won that 640 million jackpot
18:26 < Evie> Tell you what...you do an entire scale model of Torenthaly, and I'll do Rhemuth
18:26 < Evie> :D
18:26 < Alkari> I thought 3 people had already won it?
18:26 < the_Bee> too late--it's already won.
18:26 < Shiral> Well, there goes THAT plan!
18:26 < derynifanatic64>  656 million
18:26 < Shiral> I'd have to have bought a tickie in any case
18:26 < Alkari> Nice pocket money  :(
18:26 -!- BalanceTheEnergies [~chatzilla@EB02D1.C56129.5EF9B5.2B5BCE] has joined #Deryni_Destinations
18:26 < derynifanatic64> after uncle sam gets his share
18:26 < derynifanatic64> hi bte
18:26 < the_Bee> hi BTE
18:26 < BalanceTheEnergies> Hello all. Sorry I'm late.
18:26 <~DesertRose> Hi BalanceTheEnergies.
18:27 < Jerusha> Hi BTE
18:27 < Evie> hi, BTE
18:27 < derynifanatic64> that's ok
18:27 < Shiral> Since I can't so much as win a free soft drink at  a fast food place  , I don't even BOTHER with the lottery
18:27 < Alkari> Hi BTE
18:27 < KK> I heard that there were three winners.
18:27 < Shiral> Hi BTE
18:27 < jemler> hi bte
18:27 < derynifanatic64>  3 lucky winners
18:27 < the_Bee> yep.
18:27 < KK> That's still a lot of pocket change.
18:27 < KK> Even after Uncle Sam takes his share.
18:27 < BalanceTheEnergies> and some 20-odd folk who got 100k or so for having almost all the numbers.
18:27 < Alkari> Yes.   I'd have to buy a new jacket with lareg pockets :D
18:28 < Shiral> Yup. But It's not going into my pocket, evidently
18:28 < derynifanatic64> or mine
18:28 < Alkari> Oh well, we can just dream on
18:28  * Evie mutters a bit under her breath as she realized her chasuble fabric isn't "drapey" enough, and wonders whether to go with a more modern cut of chasuble, or whether to go with dalmatic and cope instead.  Le sigh.
18:28 < the_Bee> 5 numbers--250K
18:28 < BalanceTheEnergies> Oh well, even better then.
18:29 < Shiral> That's the kind of sum I'd like to win--then I could buy  a nice little condo
18:29 < KK> I suppose you could do a nice fiddle-back chasuble, since it's stiffer.  But the gothic shape is more authentic.
18:29 < Evie> If any  of you win the lottery and decide you have far too much money, I'm willing to take some off your hands. I'm just saying.
18:29 < Shiral> Thanks Evie, we'll keep you in mind. =o)
18:29 < BalanceTheEnergies> Yeah, that would let me clear my old debts, replace my aging computer, buy a few sticks of furniture.
18:29 < Jerusha> Action Duncan would end up with real cloth of gold
18:30  * Alkari mutters about what Aussie cable TV package will give her access to HBO and Game of Thrones ...
18:30 < Shiral> Well perhaps Brion has been overseeing the tabluation of Gwyneddan taxes at the same time you've been wrassling with your own, KK. =o) No time for going on adventures until all the monks have counted up the lolly
18:30 < KK> I've recently realized that we now have HBO.  When does the new series strt?
18:30 < BalanceTheEnergies> @Alkari I'm on the waiting list to borrow the first season from the public library.
18:30 < KK> start
18:31 < Alkari> I've got the DVDs - great stuff.
18:31 < Jerusha> It starts tonight, I think
18:31 < Evie> Action Duncan got some cope fabric yesterday that, if I'd needed to buy an entire yard instead of just a 12" length of it (but 60" wide), would have been nearly as expensive as Cloth of Gold.  *sigh*  My one big splurge; everything else was from the remnants bin.
18:31 < jojo> tonight
18:31 < Alkari> KK, I think the new season starts Monday night - tomorrow your time
18:31 < the_Bee> I recently learned that I've been getting HBO and Showcase--and paying extra for them.
18:31 < Alkari> It wasn't clear whether it started Sunday or Monday in USA
18:32 < Alkari> I know that they have about a 10 day delay getting it out here.
18:32 < Alkari> The thre4at of large scale piracy is actually forcing them to show many series almost contemporaneously with UK or USA
18:33 < Evie> Yes, Alkari, Annie, et al have been casting Alaric for you in your absence, so if you haven't seen Game of Thrones, you might want to have a peek.  :D
18:33 < jemler> i don't get HBO so I just buy the dvds.
18:33 < Evie> I've not seen the series myself yet, so I can't weigh in
18:33 <~DesertRose> Netflix.  :)
18:33 < derynifanatic64> me either
18:33 <~DesertRose> Actually, I'm not sure if GoT is on Netflix.
18:34 < KK> Evie, I think I have some remnants of cloth of gold from my SCA days.  Send me your address and I'll be glad to send it on.  It's gold tissue, but it will drape nicely.
18:34 < Evie> at the moment I don't have TV
18:34 < Shiral> I'm too cheap to pay for HBO
18:34 < Alkari> The DVD's of the first series were only released last month
18:34 < BalanceTheEnergies> well, he'll need the voice talent to pull off that pivotal scene with the page boy in HD.
18:34 < Evie> Will do, KK
18:34 < jojo> 8 pm cdt tonight
18:34 < derynifanatic64>  25 min to "once upon a time"
18:34 < Alkari> I saw him in the new Norwegian movie thriller, Headhunters.
18:34 < Shiral> They could do a voice over, I suspect, BTE
18:34 < BalanceTheEnergies> haven't had a working TV in a few years.
18:34 < jemler> game of thrones is on netflix
18:34 < the_Bee> that's 9pm edt
18:35 < jemler> i'm recording a show about the titanoboa tonight.
18:35 < Alkari> Sounds like a weird cocktail, jemler!  :D
18:35 < derynifanatic64> i saw the sample of that snake
18:35 < Jerusha> Titanoboa - is that a huge snake?
18:35 < derynifanatic64> very
18:35  * Shiral does not do big snakes.
18:36 < derynifanatic64> could easily eat a person
18:36 < BalanceTheEnergies> 2Shiral it'd be more effective if the actor could sound like the boy himself (who at one point imitates a man in the army giving him an order) bonus creepiness points.
18:36 < Evie> See PM, KK
18:36 < jemler> 48 feet long 2,500 pounds. extinct (fortunatrly!)
18:36 < KK> Of course, the new Great Expectations also starts tonight at 9, on PBS.  THe one with Gillian Anderson, tough it didn't get a very good review.
18:36 < jemler> i'll review her! :)
18:36 < Evie> Gillian Anderson who used to be on X-Files?
18:36 < BalanceTheEnergies> Really KK? I was looking forward to that; i liked her in Bleak House.
18:36  * DesertRose smacks jemler with a trout.
18:36 < jemler> yes
18:36 < Alkari> I am still very fond of the old David Lean version
18:36 < KK> Yep.
18:37 < Shiral> Well yes, but first the movie has to be written the project funded etc etc.prducers directors and casts lined up...
18:37 < Evie> cool...haven't seen her in anything since her Scully days
18:37 < the_Bee> Masterpieceh as lots of repeats here in MA
18:38 < jojo> In Houston too. Two digital PBS stations.
18:38 < Alkari> Warning:  Don'[t see Headhunters if you are at all squeamish.
18:39 < Shiral> My goodness, there's ALREADY a show about Evie? =o)
18:39 < Evie> DD and I went to see The Hunger Games last night.  Enjoyed it a bit, but it's not for young children.
18:39 < Evie> LOL, Shiral!
18:39 < jojo> 9 EDT; 8 CDT for both.
18:39 < Alkari> Haven't seen that yet
18:39 < Evie> Be nice, or I'll brandish a Barbie Head on a pike at you!
18:39 < Shiral> Me neither.
18:39 < KK> Me either, though I want to. Liked the book.
18:40 < Shiral> Well, that'll bring me right into line, Evie.
18:40 < Alkari> I want to see The BEst Exotic Marigold Hotel
18:40 < Shiral> There's something like 700 holds for all the copies of the Hunger Games at my library system
18:40 < Shiral> At this point, I'm glad I have a Kindle!
18:40 < Evie> If only they have a Katniss action figure with articulated limbs and at the right scale, I'll give up on trying to customize one and just buy that.  Hair and  eye color look right (on screen at least) and it would be easier.
18:40 < Shiral> I want to see that too, Alkari
18:41 < jemler> my local library got me all 5 books of the game of thrones
18:41 < Evie> I haven't read the books yet, but will probably go look for them now
18:41 < Alkari> And I haven't got around to seeing The Artis yet
18:41 < KK> I should probably get the other two books in the series as well, though I understand that they aren't as good as the first.
18:41 < KK> See The Artist!  Brilliant!
18:41 < Alkari> It's a lot of reading, jemler - GoT
18:41 < Shiral> I saw and enjoyed hte Artist. BUt if it had been my call, Hugo or Midnight In Paris would have got the Oscar
18:41 < jemler> i'm on book 4, slow going with WoW!
18:42 < Alkari> Haven't seen Hugo.  Must see if it is still showing here
18:42 < Evie> I loved Hugo
18:42 < KK> hUGO WAS ALSO BRILLIANT.  bOTH WERE LOVE LETTERS TO CLASSIC FILM.
18:42 < Shiral> I really liked Hugo. ALL the parts are important and contribute to the whole
18:42 < KK> Whoops.  Hit the caps lock.  Sorry.
18:42 < Evie> LOL
18:42 < BalanceTheEnergies> I'd like to see both of those myself.
18:42 < Alkari> Yes, I heard that, KK
18:42 < Shiral> Well now we know how much you loved it, KK =o)
18:43 < jemler> well, when DR came in, she said it was quietr in here!
18:43 < Evie> not anymore l-)
18:43 <~DesertRose> It was, when I got here.
18:43 < Evie> ;) even
18:43 < derynifanatic64> :D
18:43 < Alkari> Has anyone seen Margin Call?
18:44 < the_Bee> ?
18:44 < Alkari> Or Coriolanus?
18:44 < Evie> I haven't
18:44 < KK> My latest viewing was the 70th anniversary of Casablanca, on the big screen.  Wonderful!
18:44 < Alkari> Oh wow, that would have been great
18:44 < Evie> Must.  See.  Casablanca.
18:44 < Alkari> I saw it a few years ago at a Bogart movie day
18:44 < Evie> Lead.  Deprived.  Life.
18:44 <~DesertRose> I have it on DVD, somewhere.  :)
18:45 < Jerusha> Seen it many times.
18:45 < jemler> recorded it from TCM
18:45 < KK> We have a semi-art theatre here in town that shows opera live on the big screen, and other special showings--like Casablanca.
18:45 < Shiral> I'm a softie for Casablanca. ANd for Ingrid Bergman
18:45 < the_Bee> seen it only once
18:45 < Shiral> It has some great lines in it
18:45 < KK> We took my mother, as it's one of her very favorites.  She loved it.  THen we went for ice cream, which she also loved.
18:45  * jemler shuts up
18:46 < Shiral> Wise man, Jemler
18:46 < KK> For her, it was the perfect evening.
18:46 < Alkari> well, you could do a lot worse than that!
18:47 < Shiral> "I am shocked, SHOCKED, that gambling is going on in this establishment!"
18:47 < jemler> 'Round up the usual suspects!"
18:47 < BalanceTheEnergies> don't forget your winnings, sir.
18:47 < the_Bee> Who played that character?
18:47 < Jerusha> We'll always have Paris
18:47  * Evie starts looking up crosiers to see how hard that crook at the top is going to be to sculpt
18:47 < jojo> Only Claude Rains could have that attitude
18:47 < jemler> you can keep it
18:48 < jemler> which character bee?
18:48 < the_Bee> The Claude Raines one.
18:48 < Shiral> Love the dueling Marseillaise while the Germans try to sing THEIR song
18:48 < KK> He had the same sort of part in Lawrence of Arabia.  Remember the exchange about the Sykes-Picot arrangement?
18:48 < Alkari> Yes, great scene Shiral
18:48 < jojo> yes
18:48 < KK> Yes!
18:48 < BalanceTheEnergies> Yeah, that might be my favourite scene too.
18:48 < Alkari> Lawrene was the sort of movie you just HAVE to see on big screen
18:48 < the_Bee> "This could be the start of a beautiful friendship."
18:49 < Shiral> Yes, it just doesnt' work on an iPod!
18:49 < Evie> LOL, Shiral!
18:49 < jojo> Unfortunately, the Cinerama screens are gone.
18:49 < Alkari> lol
18:49 < Shiral> Itty bitty camels crossing the sun's Sandbox!
18:49 < Alkari> I once saw the director's cut of Lawrence, on big screen - 4 hours plus
18:49 < KK> And Omar Sherif had one of the great first appearances, as he comes riding out of the mirage on his camel.  It was originally 2 or 3 times longre.
18:49 < KK> longer
18:50 < Alkari> That was an amazing short, KK , as he just slowly comes into view
18:50 < Alkari> * shot
18:50 < KK> And Lawrence with the match, watching it burn down, and saying, "It's going to be fun." And as he snuffs out the match, we seque to the desert.
18:50 < Alkari> Yes.
18:50 < jojo> Yes.. it had an intermission as did Dr. Zhivago and How the West Was Won... all three I got to see in Cinerama.
18:51 < KK> I saw Lawrence that way the first time.  What an amazing film experience.
18:51 < jojo> David Lean was a genious!
18:51 < Alkari> Oh so did I - it really was something
18:51 < Shiral> He was, yes
18:51 < Alkari> ANd O'Toole had such presence, with those amazing blue eyes
18:52 < KK> Of course, the opening of Star Wars was pretty cool, too, as the gigantic ship comes from over our heads and the theatre shakes.
18:52 < jojo> oh, yeah...
18:52 < jemler> i have recorded Lawrence of Arabia, Ben Hur, The Lion in Winter, Becket, Cleaopatra, all I need is El Cid
18:52 < Evie> I almost literally ran into a door on my way out of Star Wars the first time, because my mind was still in the other universe. :D
18:53 < KK> I got El Cid for Christmas!
18:53 < Alkari> Do you have the 1938 Adventures of Robin Hood, jemler?
18:53 < jemler> i saw it years ago!@ yb tears, I was about 14.
18:53 < Evie> Star Wars was my first big love/obsession...I still have a bunch of collectibles in my basement
18:53 < jemler> by years, sorry
18:53 < Alkari> I haven't seen El Cid in ages
18:53 < jemler> did you see the latest epiusode of the big bang theory evie:?
18:54 < jojo> Didn't Lean also direct Zhivago?
18:54  * Shiral has image of empire storm troopers in little McLain kilts....
18:54 < Evie> I have El Cid on my Amazon Wishlist to buy sometime when I get around to it
18:54 < jojo> lol
18:54 <~DesertRose> KK, Festil and I have introduced a friend to the books.  She's reading Camber the Heretic right now and she's cursing you (affectionately) for killing off Rhys.  :D
18:54 < Shiral> The original version, yes,Jojo
18:54 < Evie> LOL, Shiral!  :-P
18:54 < BalanceTheEnergies> I haven't seen that version of Cleopatra in ages. Roddy McDowell was robbed.
18:54 < derynifanatic64> stephen hawking is on this week's episode of "big bang theory"
18:54 < jemler> el cid on netflix
18:54 < Evie> btw, I found some narrow strips of Stitch Witchery to set my mini-great-kilt pleats in place.  (is that an oxymoron, mini-great-kilt?)
18:54 < Alkari> LOL @ DR
18:54 < BalanceTheEnergies> Really? I haven't seen him do a guest shoy since STTNG
18:55 < Shiral> I can hardly bear to read that part of CTH
18:55 <~DesertRose> Me neither, Shiral.
18:55 < BalanceTheEnergies> * shot
18:55 < Evie> Oh lordy....Rhys' death had me sobbing at 3:00 am on a school night.  :-(
18:55 <~DesertRose> I just about threw the book when I read it the first time.
18:55 < Shiral> there's always this hope "Maybe this time she won't kill him, but he always dies
18:56 < Jerusha> Very sad.
18:56 < Alkari> Yes.  The power of the death was that is was so completely accidental - he just hit his head
18:56 < BalanceTheEnergies> There are worse ways he could've gone, though.
18:56 < KK> Alas, s--t happens.
18:56 <~DesertRose> My friend said that it was BS the way Rhys died, and Festil and I argued that real people die from BS all the time.
18:56 < Shiral> So I was really worried about Duncan chained to that stake--I knew KK MIGHT very well have killed him!
18:56 < Alkari> LOL
18:56 < BalanceTheEnergies> with startling regularity.
18:56 <~DesertRose> Indeed, BalanceTheEnergies.
18:57 < Alkari> Well, GoT killed off Sean Bean before the end of series 1
18:57 < Evie> Yeah, I was a bit worried about Duncan there myself. :D
18:57 < jemler> no, that would make Loris a winner, not a whiner! :)
