Hmm - pity poor Sextus then.   The young Maureen could certainly wield a skillet or any other handy instrument, as well as weapons of wit, charm, etc.  :D

And the not-so-young; remember her in Only the Lonely, where she played John Candy's mother?

Alkari

I don't think this Sextus would be interested in someone old enough to be his mother or grandmother!!  :D

Elkhound

Sextus is interested in anything in skirts.

Evie

Oh, that's not fair!  Sextus has standards.  OK, so maybe they're a little on the low side, but he does have them....   ;D

How about pairing up Sextus with Snooki from "Jersey Shore"?

I suppose if I wanted to come up with some diabolical plan guaranteed to make Denis Arilan slit his wrists....  :D

Have Sextus bring home the Gwynnedian equivalent of Snooki, and then, when Uncle Denis is about to take poison, introduce another young woman, at whom Clan Arilan would normaly turn up their aristocratic noses, but who looks like an angel compared to the Snooki-analogue.  (Agatha Christie used this in one of her Parker Pyne stories.)

Some young Kate Middleton-like woman who eventually would be acceptable to clan Arilan--especially one that could prevent Uncle Denis from killing himself.

The Agatha Christie story I was thinking of was "Problem at Pollensa Bay", in the anthology THE REGATTA MYSERTY & OTHER STORIES.

Imagine Sextus as Basil, Denis as Mrs. Chester.

Evie

LOL!  It looks like a fun read, judging by the excerpt.   :D
