Just remember that the entire idea was later dismissed by Katherine herself. So it's not valid or true currently. It was just a theory that has been proven to be false in the Deryni Universe.

True, though it's possible she dismissed it because she couldn't figure out a way to make it work with the characters she has already written. Since this theory (as further explained in the essay referencing the additional genetic keys needed to unlock specific abilities) would neatly solve that issue, she might find it an interesting hypothesis to consider, especially as it's a genetic explanation that is far less likely to back her into any corners when creating Deryni characters.
