[17:47] <KK> Hello, folks.
[17:47] <the_Bee> welcome back, KK!
[17:47] <jemler> and everybody shuts up!
[17:47] <KK> Good to be back.
[17:48] <Shiral> Well hello, KK
[17:48] * the_Bee shows kk to the do-it-yourself sundae table
[17:48] <KK> I'm sitting here in my new office , with a cat on my lap
and Fellowship of the Ring playing in the background.  Oh, and a bag
of cheddar goldfish beside me.  :-)
[17:49] <the_Bee> which cat?
[17:49] <Mistyck> I'll always claim it was the Lamb Biryani that did
the trick :D
[17:49] <KK> Gus.
[17:49] <Mistyck> cool Katherine
[17:49] <jemler> Dopes the cat like cheddar goldfish?
[17:49] <KK> Lamb biryani is good.
[17:49] * Mistyck grins. Thought you'd like that
[17:49] * Val has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:49] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws Val into the
chat.
[17:50] <jemler> what is lamb biryani?
[17:50] <Mistyck> hiyas Val
[17:50] <the_Bee> hi Val
[17:50] <jemler> hi val
[17:50] <Mistyck> good stuff Jemler
[17:50] <Bynw> hi Val
[17:50] <KK> Don't know if he does, but I do.  Actually prefer
parmesan, but cheddar is what they had.
[17:50] <DeryniBot> Val enters the chat as RainbowDragon passes around
a plate of cheese.
[17:50] <jemler> no time to say hello/goodbye?
[17:50] <Mistyck> wb Val
[17:50] <the_Bee> hi again val
[17:50] <Val> Sorry, trying this for the first time with Vista. :D
[17:50] <Val> thanks and hello to everyone.
[17:51] <Bynw> i'm sorry
[17:51] <Mistyck> everyone, Val is a friend of mine
[17:51] <KK> I understand that Vista has....problems.
[17:51] <jemler> welcome to the chat Val
[17:51] <RainbowDragon> Greetings, KK!
[17:51] <Bynw> i wouldnt get vista until service pack 2 comes out ...
if ever
[17:51] <the_Bee> welcom to Deryni Destination, Val
[17:51] <RainbowDragon> We're glad you made it back  :-)
[17:51] <Val> It does, but all the new Dells come with Vista now. :)
[17:51] <Val> Thank you, everyone!
[17:51] <Shiral> Goldfish are addictive, can't keep them around
[17:51] <Bynw> kk, its a nightmare for us tech support types
[17:51] <Shiral> Hello Val
[17:52] <Mistyck> How goes the unpacking KK?
[17:52] <the_Bee> I love the Goldfish commercials, but they don't seem
to run on the shows I watch
[17:52] <KK> Slowly.  But my bookshelves got mostly installed t his
past week.
[17:53] <RainbowDragon> thats a good thing
[17:53] <the_Bee> ah--the important stuff
[17:53] <Mistyck> yeppers
[17:53] <KK> Next we start designing the desk modules.
[17:53] <RainbowDragon> and you have internet access now... that is as
essential as water and electricity!
[17:53] <KK> Boy, have I got a lot of cables.  But usb plugs make
everything so much simpler.
[17:54] <Val> oh yes
[17:54] <Mistyck> have you had any chance to work on CM3?
[17:54] <Mistyck> or Adept Prequel?
[17:54] <jemler> the day after i got my new pc, i opened it up and
installed a second hard drive and a usb card.
[17:54] <KK> If I get any more peripherals, I'll have to start pluggig
in the front.  But at least the Dell is a trooper, and made the
transition without a hiccup.
[17:54] <Mistyck> cool, KK
[17:55] <KK> Mistyck, you must be joking!
[17:55] <Shiral> An excellent thing in a computer
[17:55] <Mistyck> I am mostly...lol
[17:55] <KK> What I <have> done is proof the copy edited High Deryni,
and am now proofing the galleys for same.
[17:55] <Mistyck> I know you've still got everything packed up
[17:55] <Mistyck> cool!
[17:55] <Mistyck> so HD remix should be out this year?
[17:56] <jemler> i had to unplug my scanner the other day to make room
for my cd case
[17:56] <KK> It will be out in December, and I think you'll like the
new introductory chapter.
[17:56] <Mistyck> ooh..neat stuff :D
[17:56] <the_Bee> does it still have deryni genetics 101?
[17:56] <jemler> are the re-writes really that different from the
originals?
[17:56] <Val> brb
[17:57] <KK> Yep--with some expansions.
[17:57] <KK> Mostly just smoother.
[17:57] <Mistyck>    ooooooookjm
[17:57] <Mistyck> sorry, that was Evaine kitty
[17:57] <KK> Shiral, how are your girls?
[17:57] <Mistyck> she's on my laptop keyboard
[17:57] <the_Bee> hi evaine!
[17:58] <Bynw> i just fed my babies
[17:58] <Mistyck> gah, she *almost* closed me out
[17:58] <Shiral> My girls are fine, thanks KK
[17:58] <Shiral> Nina just turned three on the Summer Solstice
[17:59] <Shiral> How are the cats adjusting to their new home at your
place?
[17:59] <Mistyck> KK:  I've been working on the Templar artifact story
again...actually got 10K written in the last 5 weeks
[18:00] <KK> Hafta tell you a funny dog story.  We had some big
boxwoods moved last week, that were closing things in too close to the
house.  They were flanking the path that does straight out the back.
When the guys started digging them up, Oswald was lolling on the back
porch, and suddenly sat bolt upright, went over to some nearer
boxwoods and rummaged furiously in some leaves to rescue--a bone!  And
some folk think that animals don't reason....  :
[18:00] <Mistyck> hehe KK
[18:01] <jemler> go Oz!
[18:01] <the_Bee> if you were a mystery writer rhew bone would have
been human ;)
[18:01] <KK> Cats are adjusting nicely, after Sasha gave me heart
failure by going across the street the first week--though as far as I
know, he hasn't done it agian.  Don't want flatcats.
[18:01] <Shiral> Excellent
[18:01] <Shiral> Heavens, no!
[18:01] <Shiral> ALas, friends I have to go out on desk
[18:01] <Shiral> =o(
[18:01] <jemler> later shiral
[18:01] <KK> On deck?
[18:01] * Shiral waves farewell, steps onto her portal and disappears
in a cloud of blue steam
[18:02] <the_Bee> has each cat selected a favorite hiding/sleeping/
sitting spot?
[18:02] <Shiral> BYE!
[18:02] <Mistyck> taake care Shiral
[18:02] <Shiral> Desk
[18:02] <the_Bee> bye shiral
[18:02] <Shiral> Toodle-oo!
[18:02] * Shiral Quit
[18:03] <KK> They're sorting things out.  Jessie has taken to sleeping
on top of a music cabinet just outside the office door, at the feet of
a sweet statue of the Madonna.
[18:03] <Mistyck> and the cycle continues--KK, you're here when Shiral
is at work
[18:03] <KK> She may figure that out Lady will protect her from the
mean boys.
[18:03] <Mistyck> cool
[18:04] <KK> Bynw, I was going to ask about your girls.  They must be
getting really big.
[18:04] <Mistyck> brb..Chance wants something
[18:05] <Bynw> yeah they are
[18:05] <Bynw> i need to upload some more pics of them but here is
their gallery
[18:05] <Bynw> http://www.otherworlders.org/forums/index.php?action=gallery;cat=3
[18:06] <Val> back - sorry, dinner things called.
[18:06] <Mistyck> back
[18:06] <the_Bee> rehi both
[18:06] <Mistyck> ty
[18:06] <Val> thanks
[18:06] <RainbowDragon> welcome to our humble chat, Val
[18:06] <Mistyck> so how are you liking the VA summers KK?
[18:07] <the_Bee> what did Chance want?
[18:07] <Mistyck> water
[18:07] <KK> So far, they aren't too bad.  A few really hot days, but
mostly mild so far.  Of course, I know that will change.  We do get
some spectacular thunderstorms.
[18:08] <Mistyck> yep
[18:08] <Val> VA is beautiful.  I've only been down a few times, but
it's lovely in the spring.
[18:08] <the_Bee> are you tidewater VA or mountain VA?
[18:09] <KK> Spring is brilliant, as everything starts leafing out.
And boy, have we got birds.  A pair of cardinals in the back garden,
plus hummingbirds occasionally.
[18:10] <KK> Just had a pleasant surprise.  The Fellowship CD, which
always had a wobbel on Enya's last song when I played it in the car,
has no wobble when played in the computer.  Hurrah!
[18:10] <KK> A wobble, even.
[18:10] <Mistyck> cool!
[18:10] <Mistyck> aren't you in the southern part of VA, KK?
[18:10] <Val> Yay!
[18:10] <jemler> are you sure it's a wobble and not a Weeble? ;)
[18:11] <KK> We have no TV set up yet, so it was getting awfully quiet
around here.
[18:11] <the_Bee> or a wibble?
[18:11] <KK> We're toward the southern end of the Shanandoah Valley,
even with Charlottesville, which is about 35 minutes east.
[18:11] <jemler> don't say wubble, that's what elmer fudd calls Barney
Rubble!
[18:11] <Mistyck> it's still 64 channels and nothing on KK.  :-D
[18:12] <Val> Except baseball, right, Misty? ;)
[18:12] <jemler> try Reality TV. You know, the Off switch.
[18:12] <Mistyck> hehe, yep
[18:12] <Val> speaking of, Misty, the Empire is losing 7-1. :D
[18:12] <Mistyck> cool
[18:13] <KK> But we don't even have news.  No news for about 5-6 weeks
now.
[18:13] <the_Bee> the empire losing is always good
[18:13] <the_Bee> bad news: we're still in Iraq
[18:13] <Mistyck> btw, my baseball blog got picked up by a national
blog feed and an advertiser..so now I"m making money from my blog and
getting national exposure
[18:14] <the_Bee> cool!
[18:14] * Val Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[18:14] <jemler> Alright!
[18:14] * the_Bee stings peer severely
[18:14] <jemler> peer has quit IRC (Connection reset by jemler)
[18:14] <Mistyck> peer's been bad lately
[18:14] <the_Bee> lol
[18:15] <KK> I knew that.  We went about a month ago to see off a
contingent of VA Guard that's gone to intensive training before
deploying there.
[18:15] <RainbowDragon> No tv yet? If you get bored you can always
stop by and chat *subtle hint*
[18:15] <KK> I only just got on line last weekend.
[18:15] <jemler> you forgot to wink at her RD!
[18:15] <the_Bee> My tv dies and I haven't been able to pick up my new
one yet
[18:16] <jemler> how's you computer doing though bee?
[18:16] <KK> Our new one is in, but not yet delivered.  Satellite will
be hooked up Wednesday, I believe, and a stand is being made for the
TV.
[18:17] <the_Bee> pretty good but it sometimes freezed mid-download
[18:17] <jemler> almost sounds like yuour building that place from
scratch!
[18:17] <RainbowDragon> We have DISH Network and are happy with it
[18:17] <jemler> bee, if it acts up, try mouse-to-mouse rescucitation!
[18:17] <KK> Any new residence always requires some customizing,
especially if you're a bookaholic.
[18:18] <Mistyck> I have regular cable, although we switched from Time
Warner to ComCast
[18:18] <the_Bee> OUCCH jemler
[18:18] <KK> I think it is Dish.
[18:18] <jemler> did i lay an egg, bee?
[18:18] <Bynw> rd you are out in the boonies though so dish is
probably better for you
[18:18] <KK> We apparently need both satellite and cable, as satellite
can't get the local stations here, for some weird reason.
[18:18] * Bynw has cable
[18:18] <the_Bee> a whole omelet, jemler!
[18:19] <KK> There's like two counties, where I guess mountains are in
the way.
[18:19] <Mistyck> ahh
[18:19] <KK> Augusta county is one of them.
[18:22] <Mistyck> they used to allow sattelite to pick up local
stations but I think Time Warner won a lawsuit and made the satellite
companies scramble the signal
[18:24] <the_Bee> Where is Staunton in relation to Walton's Mountain?
[18:24] <KK> Ah, well.  As you say, many channels and still not much
to watch, at least through the summer.
[18:24] <the_Bee> PBS is doing new episodes of Mystery next month
[18:24] <KK> Whoa, don't know where Walton's Mountains is exactly.
[18:25] <jemler> the family's real name was Hamner I think.
[18:25] <the_Bee> in a TV series--I presume wherever the author grew
up in real life
[18:25] <KK> We're at the far western edge of the state, not far from
West Virginia.
[18:26] <jemler> no the stories were based on stories by Earl Hamner
[18:26] <jemler> you're only about 3 hours from Abington, Va. Thet
have hot air balloon rides over the Blue Ridge.
[18:26] <KK> Between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Allegheny
Mountains.
[18:27] <KK> I've seen hot air balloons farther north.  Something I'd
like to do someday.
[18:27] <Mistyck> ooh that's a really pretty area...drove through that
the last time I was at Darkover
[18:27] <jemler> i was going to go on vacation there a few years ago,
but coouldn't make it.
[18:27] <KK> Did you guys know that they used hot air balloons for
observation posts during the civil war?
[18:28] <RainbowDragon> I think riding in a hot air balloon sounds fun
[18:28] <Mistyck> cool.  I didn't know that
[18:28] <jemler> Read that in "The Mysterious Island" by Jules Verne!
[18:28] <the_Bee> could they go high enough to get out of rifle range?
[18:28] <Mistyck> I knew they'd used them in WWI
[18:29] <KK> Speaking of civil war, we went up to New Market last
month for the reenactment of the battle, when VMI cadets marched up
from Lexington and went into battle, broke the union line.  It was
cool!
[18:29] <KK> As you can see, I'm getting immersed in local
history!  :-)
[18:30] <Mistyck> :-D  Lots of history in that area
[18:30] <RainbowDragon> has jasta come to visit yet?
[18:31] <KK> Not yet, though I've seen her a couple of times, and
inspected her new apartment.  Very cool.
[18:31] <RainbowDragon> okay good
[18:31] <Mistyck> how far away is she from you?
[18:31] <KK> Met her horse, too.
[18:31] <Mistyck> neat!
[18:31] <KK> About 1 1/2 hours or a bit less.
[18:31] <Mistyck> oh not bad at all then.
[18:32] <KK> No, it's about 3 hours from Dulles.
[18:33] <KK> Plus, we've discovered that USAir runs shuttle flights to
Dulles from Weyr's Cave, which is only about 20-30 minutes up the
road.
[18:33] <Mistyck> cool.
[18:34] <KK> It's a dinky regional airport, but better than nothing.
And Charlottesville airport has more flights, and is less than an hour
away.
[18:34] <Mistyck> I'm definitely going to be at Darkover this year.
Not sure if Ryan's going to be there too though.
[18:34] <KK> Is he still skating, or has he discovered girls?
[18:35] <Mistyck> he's not skating anymore, and hasn't really
discovered girls yet.  He has discovered guitar though :-)
[18:35] <KK> A much safer bet, on both counts.
[18:36] <Mistyck> he's actually pretty good...he really has an ear for
music
[18:36] <Mistyck> and he's been putting in about 4-5 hours a day in
practicing
[18:36] <RainbowDragon> thats a lot of practice
[18:37] <RainbowDragon> my sister tolerated an hour a day on piano
[18:37] <Mistyck> yeah RD, I was surprised he was dedicating so much
of his time to the guitar.  I thought he'd spend more time playing
computer games
[18:37] <KK> Excellent.  But I'd better scoot.  Scott wants to go see
a Three Stooges movie in town--they meet Frankenstein.  Silly, but
there you are.
[18:37] <Mistyck> have fun KK...a barrel of laughs :)
[18:37] <the_Bee> have fun!
[18:38] <Kelric> heh
[18:38] <Kelric> 3 stooges are always fun
[18:38] <jemler> abbott & costello meet frankenstein in 25 min on
turner classic movies
[18:38] <jemler> no comment
[18:38] <RainbowDragon> Thank you for stopping by, KK
[18:38] <KK> Yeah, right.  BTW, I'll be out of town next week and the
week after, but will see you all after the July 4th weekend.  We're
going on a Morgan meet up in West Virginia.

[18:38] <Mistyck> and glad you're up and running in the virtual world
again :-)
[18:39] <RainbowDragon> okay, thanks for the "heads up"
[18:39] <KK> It's great to be back.  Take care, all.
[18:39] <Mistyck> have a great trip
[18:39] * KK steps onto her Poral, waves goodbye, and disappears in a
shower of green sparkles.
[18:39] <jemler> bye kk, have a good week
[18:39] * KK Quit
[18:39] * KK has left IRC

Shiral
