Well....I am  just stunned.   :(  :'( Susan, you will be sorely missed.  You already are.

I'm remembering us sitting in the pool at the Marriott Hotel in San Diego  at Westercon July 4th weekend 1998 where we avidly discussed the news concerning KKB that we'd heard from Katherine the night before, not yet knowing we'd come to be known as the Zipper Sisters in the fullness of time.

I remember the dinner we had at Westercon with Rob and Mary and your mother, and how we talked in the lobby for hours, being unwilling to part.  We talked about the website KK mentioned, never dreaming we'd eventually  be asked to put it together.
I remember you, me and Carolyn and Katherine having dinner together in San Francisco, and bumming  around San Francisco the day before in fall 1999.

I remember the way you shrieked my name when I surprised everyone by turning up at Darkover in 1999, all unexpectedly.

I remember your passion for "secret circles" within the already elite organization of the Camberian Council.  And your passion fo Stefan Coram.

Love and farewell.  I hope you and Stefan Coram are having a great dinner together in the afterlife right now.

I must share this poem. It has always given me some comfort when a loved one has passed away.
So now I share it with Susie.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle Autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush.
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there;
I did not die.

Forever in my Heart
Love
Chris

My deepest sympathy to all of you who knew her and loved her.  I can only imagine your shock and loss -- I feel a little punched in the stomach and I only knew her through the web site, chat and forums.

I remember when I first found the usenet group and lurked for weeks on end.  I finally felt brave enough to post a theory of my own on the bride, and Susan's very enthusiastic response was one of the first to join in the supposition.  I felt like I'd made the big time to impress someone so obviously in the inner circle!

I'm sorry we never met -- I always felt there was a kindred soul in Chicago -- I hope she is enjoying her "relocation."

This is such a shock.  I, too, only knew Susan online, but her spirit was contagious.  Rest in peace Susan may all who mourn remember your goodness and so find healing.

 :'( Goodbye Susan.  I only met you the one time, but I knew you well via chats and the newsgroup.  The world was a much better place with you in it.

I, too, knew Susan mostly thru the newsgroup and chat, but I did have the opportunity to meet her in person in 2002.  She was a most warm and friendly person.

I will always remember her love of the "intrigue" within the inner circles of the Deryni.  She left me with a lot of input on some theories of my own.  Mistress of Complications, indeed!

Stefan Coram- as Melissa mentioned, Susan's passion for him was contagious.

I remember when we met- Arisia Con in Boston, 2002.  I had just attended a panel (I was commuting into Boston each morning for the Con) and there was a discussion about seeing people at cons and such, and recognizing them from their internet pictures.  As the panel broke up, I saw Susan and that was exactly how I recognized her!  I went up and introduced myself and she knew immediately who I was.

Ah, yes, and dinner at- whatever that place was in Boston on Saturday night. That whole long table of Deryni folk, Susan included.

A sad day for those who knew her, in person or online.  She will be missed.  Rest in peace, Susan.

I was trying to find a poem for Susan as well, although I only knew her online.  At the funeral of my 12th grade English teacher, a friend of the family declaimed a poem that celebrated the liveliness, kindness, intellect, and zest for life that characterized both my teacher and Susan.  Sadly, that was 14 years ago and I don't remember much of the poem, and try though I might (I've searched every internet quote and/or poetry site I can find), I cannot find the poem to post here.

Mistress of Complications, we will miss you.
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)

This shocks and saddens me beyond words.
I wish I could have known her better.
I wish I could have told her more.

This is one of those times for which one cannot ever be prepared.  I was looking forward to more of Susan's own superb storytelling, as well as her reaction to my own--and the verbal sparring as she pressed me for details about the Camberian Council that haven't even yet percolated to the surface in <my> mind.  But she was good at making me think about the further ramifications of what I'd written, and her passion for the world of the Deryni was an ongoing inspiration.  I can't even tease her anymore about details of the Deryni universe that I know, but she doesn't.  Except that now she <does> know....  But it never should have been this way.

Sleep gently, dear friend.  Chori angelorum te suscipiat.  In paradisum deducant te angeli.... You will live on in our memories, as well as in the Eternal.

One last huggle,
Katherine

My words fail at such moments, so it is best to steal the words from others instead:

...Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
'twas Heaven here with you.
                      -Isla Paschal Richardson

They that love beyond the world
Cannot be separated by it.
Death is but crossing the world,
As friends do the seas;
They live in one another still.

This is another writing of someone else that, perhaps, speaks to this sad time.  I think Susan would approve.

Death is nothing at all:
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you;
Whatever we were to each other,
That we are still.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way you always used;
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed,
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was;
Let it be spoken without effort,
Without the ghost of a shadow in it.

Life means all that it ever meant;
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval,
Somewhere very near;
Just around the corner.
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting
When we meet again!

I only knew Susan online as well. It was fascinating to read her posts and follow her ideas about the deryni world. I am sorry I never met her in real.
Mistress of complications with a big heart and a sparkling mind, we will miss you very much.
