[17:01] * KK has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:01] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met KK
[17:01] <Olympia> I have a nice, nice long bladed dagger.
[17:01] <Mistyck> hi Katherine
[17:01] <Kitsune> lo.
[17:01] <Harvey> I am gonig to be there Friday, SAturday, and Sunday.
[17:01] <Olympia> Katherine!!! :)
[17:01] <Ghostgames> The original farming implement was essentially a
wooden handle with a rope or leather thong. The weapon added metal
spikes.
[17:01] <the_Bee> I thought a mace had a chain?
[17:01] <KK> Hello, all!
[17:01] <Harvey> I hope pirate is Saturday.
[17:01] <kirienne> Hello Katherine
[17:01] <Harvey> Hi KK.
[17:01] <Kiri`> hi Katherine
[17:01] <the_Bee> Hello KK
[17:01] <baxtercaroline> Hey KK
[17:01] <Olympia> I'll be there Wed night through Sunday afternoon,
Harvey.
[17:01] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Greetings, Lady Katherine.
[17:01] <RainbowDragon> Japanese nunchaku (numchucks) are a type of
flail too I believe... They are at least some form of farm tool turned
weapon.
[17:01] <Genevieve> Hello, KK.
[17:01] <Harvey> I haven't even looked at costumes yet.
[17:01] <RainTurtle> hi, Katherine
[17:01] <Ghostgames> They didn't always have two wooden pieces,
though. (the farming implement.)
[17:01] <RainbowDragon> Hello and welcome, Katherine!
[17:01] <Harvey> Maybe I need to be a pirate.
[17:01] <Harvey> Marian will be there too.
[17:02] <Olympia> Yes, RD. Nunchuks originally started as a threshing
item. They are two wooden handles connected by chain.
[17:02] <Ghostgames> Hi, Katherine! medieval weaponry discussion
underway here. :-)
[17:02] <Harvey> She has some costumes.
[17:02] <baxtercaroline> Stick with the scout uniform Harvey!
[17:02] <Harvey> But, I don't look good in green!
[17:02] <Mistyck> lol
[17:02] <KK> So, have you all done something nice for your mom, or at
least remembered her if she's passed on, and have all the moms had
love woodgies from their children?
[17:02] <Mistyck> How was your week, Katherine?
[17:02] <Genevieve> Well, I did on the English Mothering Sunday . . .
[17:02] <Olympia> I will not bore you with a brief history of nunchuks
although I had to find out for the big rpg book on China... :)
[17:02] <Mistyck> yep...I got to sleep in :)
[17:02] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Indeed Mum has... :)
[17:02] <baxtercaroline> I bet you look lovely Harvey - just think how
original the costume would be!!!!
[17:03] <Wrengl> hi katherine
[17:03] <Olympia> Katherine, my mom says hi and sends her love.
[17:03] <Harvey> Um...uh...maybe?
[17:03] <KK> Genevieve obviously os overe here in my neck of the
woods.
[17:03] <Harvey> Only if you come to Gencon, caroline.
[17:03] <Olympia> Some friends of mine dressed up as Sailor Moon
characters several years back. Tres scary.
[17:03] <Genevieve> Indeed. Me English, me Genevieve.
[17:03] <KK> is over here
[17:03] <Kiri`> i called and talked to my whole family fro 3 hours..

[17:04] <baxtercaroline> Hey VB and Raven
[17:04] <Olympia> I have a cute story to tell about my mom>>
[17:04] <Kiri`> hi VB  Raven!
[17:04] <RainbowDragon> Hello and welcome, Debbie
[17:04] <the_Bee> I need to call Mom, but I don't know when she'll be
home. My brother probably has plans for her
[17:04] <VirtualBabe> and happy Mothers day to any and all mothers
here
[17:04] <RainbowDragon> Hello and welcome, B_Raven
[17:04] <Olympia> My mother is an avid reader - reads everything she
can get her hands on that's Arthurian (including all of Jack Whyte) >>
[17:04] <Ghostgames> Paul went up to Vermont to visit his mom. (I
stayed home with the dogs.) My mum's passed on, but I did spend some
moments thinking of her today. (And of our friend Steffan, who
recently lost his mother... like my mother, his mother suffered from
alzheimers so he actually said his good-byes several years ago, but
it's still hard....)
[17:04] <Mistyck> Katherine:  How was your week?
[17:04] <KK> Very good week.
[17:04] <Mistyck> cool!
[17:05] <the_Bee> any riding?
[17:05] <Mistyck> how is your cold/sniffles?
[17:05] <Ghostgames> That's good to hear!
[17:05] <Kiri`> Katherine - did you call your mom today? ;)
[17:05] * VirtualBabe appreciates it when katherine has a good week
[17:05] <KK> DR second pass is done except for the last chapter.
Intro is done.
[17:05] <Olympia> who has a cold???? Katherine, did you send your cold
to me??????????????
[17:05] <Mistyck> awesome!
[17:05] <Wrengl> great katherine
[17:05] <kirienne> wonderful KK
[17:05] <Olympia> Katherine's mom is waaaaay cool!!!!!
[17:05] <the_Bee> LBM
[17:05] <RainbowDragon> Wonderful news, KK!
[17:05] <Genevieve> Hurrah!
[17:05] <KK> And I now have decided to do a bridging afterword chapter
to cover the time between DR and DC, which will give everyone a shot
of New Deryni Stuff.
[17:06] <Kiri`> Katherine - the disc is burned.. will go out this week
(btw)
[17:06] <Harvey> Cool!
[17:06] <Genevieve> Mmm. Excellent.
[17:06] <Olympia> ::wonders what kind of bottle New Deryni Stuff comes
in::
[17:06] <Kiri`> oooh
[17:06] <KK> I got rid of mine; don't know where it went.
[17:06] <Olympia> Um it came to me, dear.
[17:06] <Genevieve> (The sort that you can use for a table lamp
afterwards, Olympia.)
[17:06] <KK> But my chest x-ray definitely showed signs of a recent
infection.  I go back for a follow up one this week, just to make sure
it's healed.  But no more coughing!  Yay!
[17:06] <kirienne> new bridging chapter will be cool
[17:06] <Ghostgames> ooh, nice! (New Deryni Stuff).
[17:07] <Olympia> As long as it's NOT in a container wherein little
metal men can go, I'm fine with it.
[17:07] <Mistyck> yes!
[17:07] <KK> Ah, thank you, Kiri!
[17:07] <Olympia> Yeah!!!!!!!
[17:07] <Harvey> But, I like containers of little metal men.
[17:07] <Kiri`> your welcome Katherine. =)   I've started on HD this
weekend
[17:07] <Ghostgames> Well, it wasn't an airborne infection, since I
didn't catch it. :-)
[17:07] <Olympia> ::growling at Harvey
[17:07] <the_Bee> my great fear is not living long enough to read
everything KK writes
[17:07] <Kiri`> little metal men?
[17:07] <Olympia> = miniature figures
[17:08] <Olympia> My ex-husband collected them and kept them in empty
Glen Fiddich containers.
[17:08] <Wrengl> like you use in gaming
[17:08] <Harvey> I started painting little miniatures when I was
younger because i was so blind.
[17:08] <KK> Super.  Doing this polish on DR has gotten me all fired
up to start on the next Childe book--which will probably happen the
week after this next one.  It'll take a week to do the bridging
material, probably.
[17:08] <the_Bee> steadfast tin soldiers?
[17:08] <Kiri`> ah
[17:08] <Mistyck> Woohoo!
[17:08] <Kitsune> oh, I have some miniatures - little ratmen.
[17:08] <KK> I remember Richard's little metal men!
[17:08] <Olympia> Warhammer 40K Kitsune?
[17:08] <Kiri`> good then the disc will arrive in pleanty of time for
you to tackle. =)
[17:08] <Kitsune> Just plain old Warhammer... :)
[17:08] * Kelos_al-Hazar asks KK to check the back-window for a sec...
[17:08] <Olympia> :;grinning at Katherine:: Yep, those little metal
men...
[17:08] * Mistyck knows ITKS isn't hit the street yet is impatient for
the next one!
[17:08] * kirienne is jumping up anddown with excitement at mention of
all the cool new Deryni stuff
[17:08] <RainbowDragon> Hooray for an early start to the next Childe
book!!!
[17:09] <Olympia> Kitsune, I have an Amazon army somewhere...
[17:09] <Harvey> Horray for an early FINISH for the next Childe book!
[17:09] * nuik has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:09] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met nuik
[17:09] <Olympia> NOT in a Glen Fiddich container!
[17:09] <Kiri`> hello nuik!
[17:09] <the_Bee> I'm looking forward to seeing more of Bronwyn
[17:09] <Genevieve> Should we tempt you with Clickytech, Olympia?
[17:09] <Wrengl> hi nuik
[17:09] <RainTurtle> hi
[17:09] <baxtercaroline> Hey Nuik
[17:09] <nuik> hello
[17:09] <Harvey> I have a lot of little metal men thrown in boxes
whereever.
[17:09] <Kitsune> ooh, Amazons, eh?  I have a fair part of a Skaven
force hanging around...
[17:09] <VirtualBabe> Well, I was chatting with a  fellow reader after
church last week and I recommended  your work Katherine.   she went to
the library and totally enjoyed St ptddy's
[17:09] <Mistyck> hi nuik
[17:09] <Olympia> Clickytech? You don't mean MageKnights, do you?
[17:09] <kirienne> hi nuik
[17:09] <Harvey> I'll try to keep them out of Glenffidich containers.
[17:10] <VirtualBabe> Let's try that one again.  St. Paddy's
[17:10] <Mistyck> Katherine:  any decision on Khadasa?
[17:10] <KK> One of the program items for GenCon sounds really neat.
It's called Iron Artist, and they want me to read a scene from ITKS
which the 4-5 artists will then illustrate on the spot.
[17:10] <Olympia> Oh, Katherine - I met a charming fellow - Indian,
actually - says your books got him through high school.
[17:10] <Kitsune> VB: the one with the gargoyle?
[17:10] <KK> I've offered to put the finished items on the website
afterward.
[17:10] <Harvey> I've seen Iron Artist before.  Doing it from one of
your scenes sounds really cool.
[17:10] <VirtualBabe> Yep
[17:10] <Kitsune> that's cool.  :)
[17:10] <Mistyck> yes it does!
[17:10] <KK> Can't worry about Khadasa now.
[17:10] <Mistyck> ok
[17:10] <kirienne> cool KK, those will be fun to see
[17:11] <Harvey> They often auction teh Iron Artist pictures for
charity.
[17:11] <Olympia> Ooooo sounds good! Oh, I'm going to try to bring a
portable humidifier but do NOT forget to bring your earplugs!
Otherwise, you will be up all night listening to the Uruk-hai war
cries :(
[17:11] <Mistyck> that will be cool...another reading!  YES!!!!
[17:11] <KK> Remind me agian closer to time.
[17:11] <KK> again
[17:11] <Mistyck> ok
[17:11] <KK> Gus is on my lap being cute.
[17:11] <Harvey> Maybe those large things that guys on the tarmac at
airports wear over their ears...
[17:11] <Mistyck> lol
[17:11] <VirtualBabe> Hi Gus
[17:12] <Wrengl> hi gus
[17:12] <Olympia> It may not be enough, Harvey. :(
[17:12] <Mistyck> Hi GusCat
[17:12] <Wrengl> ashley sayes meow, gus
[17:12] <kirienne> hi cutie Gus
[17:12] <KK> I have earplugs I can bring.
[17:12] <KK> Nice soft ones, good for sleeping.
[17:12] * the_Bee rubs gus's tummy and scritches his ears
[17:12] <Olympia> Well, don't leave home without them!
[17:13] <Olympia> By the way - if anyone wants a totally fun gaming
experience, over 'n above Deryni Adventures, sign up for some of the
7th Sea stuff! There's even gonna be a LARP!
[17:13] <Kiri`> Where is the Comicon you were mentioning held at?
[17:13] <Mistyck> Katherine:  are you going to any Cons in June?
[17:13] <Olympia> Comiccon is in San Diego, July 18-20
[17:13] <KK> GenCon is in Indianapolis.
[17:13] <Genevieve> Olympia: Mage Knight, yes.
[17:13] <Olympia> ::looks in my MK box... yep  ... and I write for
them too :)
[17:13] <Harvey> Are you goign to write for Mechwarrior?
[17:13] <Genevieve> Heh. Very nice. :) I'd start buying, but I fear
addiction.
[17:14] <Olympia> Nope, no Mechwarrior for me! :(
[17:14] <Harvey> Why not?
[17:14] <Olympia> I totally SUCK at Mechwarrior.
[17:14] <Olympia> (Not so good at MK either)
[17:14] <Harvey> Oh.  But, you can still write for them.  Just not
play.
[17:14] <Olympia> Yep. :)
[17:14] <Kiri`> nancy - ok =)
[17:14] <Harvey> I've followed Battletech since it was Battledroids,
so I was happy to see it keep going.
[17:14] <Olympia> I write for COOL games like Deryni Adventures 'n 7th
Sea - games with STORIES
[17:14] <Genevieve> *grins*
[17:15] <Mistyck> heehee
[17:15] <Olympia> My tactic in the pods is to hang on the side and
shoot at all my friends :)
[17:15] <Harvey> What?  Battletech has a story in their universe.
Although MEchwarrior really doesn't seem to as much.
[17:15] <Kiri`> any chance i can talk ann Katherine and nancy into the
baty area fro a test drive and a visit? =)
[17:15] <Olympia> Baty?
[17:15] <the_Bee> I haven't had much good experience role-playing
games with others. It's easier when I'm in control of evrything
[17:15] <VirtualBabe> Last time I played any RPG's was Marvel
superheros
[17:15] <Olympia> LOL, Bee! The guy running the 7th Sea games is a
good friend (and drop dead adorable)
[17:15] <Olympia> He's Irish-born, 6'5", dark hair, dark eyes.
[17:16] <Genevieve> My, that's tall.
[17:16] <Kiri`> Bay..  (hides the coercion bat)
[17:16] <Mistyck> yep

[17:19] <Olympia> Katherine, it turns out that I MAY be able to come

falling in love with an Irishman. I have a weakness :(
[17:19] <Olympia> They start talking and I stop thinking.
[17:19] <KK> LOL, Olympia, I'll do my best, but I make no promises.
Our men <are> charming.
[17:19] <TerryOBrien> <envious> going to Ireland.
[17:19] <Ghostgames> I'm resisting EQ 'cause if I ever get started

[17:20] <Mistyck> It's OK now, Nancy, I'm not at the DEA anymore :)
[17:20] <Olympia> I'd ask Melissa or Martine to protect me but ha ha
ha! that ain't gonna happen.
[17:20] <TerryOBrien> Everquest BAD.
[17:20] <Olympia> Everquest very very very bad. (Hi, Terry - what
server???)
[17:20] <Kendall> brb
[17:21] <TerryOBrien> Don't play EQ, just seen its effects. Got a
couple friends who are heavily into it.
[17:21] <Olympia> Oh, heh, Rita! Actually thems of us wot is addicted

[17:21] * Kelos_al-Hazar canna afford EQ fees...
[17:21] <Kitsune> what happens when you play EQ?
[17:21] <Olympia> YOUR LIFE STOPS
[17:21] <Olympia> Trust me.
[17:21] <Genevieve> You are sucked into Hell by a thousand screaming
demons.
[17:21] * the_Bee never heard of Everquest
[17:21] <Kitsune> really??
[17:21] <Genevieve> Yup.
[17:21] <Kitsune> wow.
[17:21] <Mistyck> sounds fun!
[17:21] <Kitsune> I ought to try it, just to see if that's true!  :D
[17:21] * Kelos_al-Hazar was a  failed  Beta-4 tester for EQ...
[17:22] <KK> Wow, methinks these folk speak from experience!
[17:22] <Wrengl> i have only played DND and that was  years  ago
[17:22] <Olympia> Um well yeah.

[17:22] <Wrengl> wb ann and kendall
[17:22] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Downloaded 22Mb of updates only to find out

[17:22] <baxtercaroline> Gotta get some sleep, sweet dreams folkies
[17:22] <Olympia> omigod, Terry so true. I actually had to take a 6
mo. break from the game - cold turkey at one point it was so bad.

[17:23] * the_Bee leads a swarm of African killer bees after peer
[17:23] <kirienne> me throws one of Morgan's daggers at peer
[17:23] <Ghostgames> saw it.... That's why I've never started EQ, I
know it would be the end of life as I know it. Heck, I can't even lay
off the stupid online solitaire card and puzzle games, let alone
something as engrossing as EverCrack!
[17:23] <TerryOBrien> Got that way with Diablo II for a while, but
haven't played it for several months now.
[17:23] <Mistyck> KK:  how about Caramel Delights?
[17:23] <Olympia> Ok, Ann - no Bejewelled for YOU!
[17:23] <Genevieve> TerryOBrien, there's a new patch coming out...

[17:23] <Genevieve> (Ever helpful.)
[17:23] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Olympia: I had a similar problem with
Underlight....had to stay off it for over a year.
[17:24] <kirienne> I get my new glasses next week, sure do need them
<g>
[17:24] <KK> No, I can resist 'em all except those dark-chocolate mint
ones.
[17:24] <Olympia> Oh yeah, Kelos! I hear ya. Nice folks at Underlight.
[17:24] <Ghostgames> However, today I ordered Age of Empires and
Civilization III for the Mac. I'm gonna set them on top of my computer
with the promise that I can play them when the Deryni Adventure Game's
gone to press. :-)
[17:24] <Mistyck> The Girlscouts came and dropped of 100 boxes of
cookies
[17:24] <Olympia> CIV!!!! THE BEST GAME EER~
[17:24] <Olympia> EVER
[17:24] <TerryOBrien> I saw that. I'm not much interested, in D II any
more, once I got through the final battle at the highest level.
[17:24] <Mistyck> 100 cases
[17:24] <the_Bee> I took a D&D class once.  Couldn't get past the
petty details
[17:24] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Civ III is cool. Too bad I can't afford to
buy it yet.
[17:24] <Olympia> I have logged oh you don't wanna know how many hours
on Civ from Civ I to III
[17:24] <Mistyck> I'll see if there are Mints left
[17:24] <Kitsune> I played Diablo II.  Had a necromancer called
Kevin...
[17:24] <Genevieve> Apparently there's an Exalted computer game in the
works. (For those who play that . . .)
[17:24] <Mistyck> will bring them to GenCon
[17:24] <KK> If there are some mint ones, I'll take some.
[17:24] <Olympia> and now I have FFX for the PS2 and I'm getting an
X-box. I am SUCH a geek!
[17:25] <Kendall> speaking of games, is the Deryni Adventure Game
going to be a trading card game?
[17:25] <Olympia> Noooooooo
[17:25] <Olympia> (is it? we don't have a CCG with this do we?)
[17:25] <Olympia> (or did I miss a memo?)
[17:25] <Kelos_al-Hazar> CCG's are EEEVIL. :-o
[17:25] <Genevieve> What an intriguing idea.
[17:25] <Ghostgames> Minimum investment for a good TCG that has a shot
of making money is about $200K.
[17:25] <nuik> Civilisation 3 can take over your life
[17:25] <Olympia> I agree, Nuik
[17:25] <Kiri`> some *freind* gto me Sims online..    i've been
resisting.
[17:25] <Kendall> so what is it then?
[17:25] <Kelos_al-Hazar> I goofed up EARLY.
[17:26] <Olympia> RPG, Kendall.
[17:26] * VirtualBabe is on IRC
[17:26] <Ghostgames> brb -- dogs gotta come /in/ now. :-)
[17:26] <Olympia> Paper 'n pencil
[17:26] <TerryOBrien> CCGs are also pretty tight now. Takes a LOT to
make an impression.
[17:26] * VirtualBabe has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:26] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met VirtualBabe
[17:26] <Kendall> that doesn't say a whole lot
[17:26] <RainTurtle> hi
[17:26] <Kitsune> reyo.
[17:26] <the_Bee> it's cheaper to do roleplaying games inside my own
head
[17:26] <Mistyck> wb VB
[17:26] <Olympia> ::offers VB a velvet cushion
[17:26] <Wrengl> wb debbie
[17:26] <kirienne> WB Debbie
[17:26] <B_Raven> wb VB
[17:26] <VirtualBabe> consarn reaas-frassin computers
[17:26] <the_Bee> rehi Debbie
[17:26] * Mistyck hands Debbie some Advil for the headache
[17:26] <Olympia> The cool thing about DA is that it will introduce
the world to gamers who aren't familiar with it AND give fans a chance
to play in the world.
[17:26] <Kelos_al-Hazar> In Civ3, I made a serious mistake early...
wound up having to trash my nearest neighbor...
[17:26] <Olympia> Very very cool.
[17:26] <Kendall> there are RPG that are card games
[17:27] <Olympia> It will explain lotsa stuff too
[17:27] <Olympia> Like Storyteller, Kendall?
[17:27] <Kendall> never hear of it
[17:27] <Kendall> so many games are so small that most dealers will
not carry it
[17:27] <Olympia> It's a great game! (So is "Guillotine" and
"Munchkin" and "Before I Kill You, Mr. Bond")
[17:28] <Mistyck> lol, that last one sounds funny
[17:28] <Olympia> Storyteller is a 1 box of cards game. :)
[17:28] * Kelos_al-Hazar grins
[17:28] <Olympia> Oh, Cheap Ass Games are WONDERFUL. They have a Ren
Faire game that is a complete hoot.
[17:28] <Olympia> "Cheap Ass Games" is the name of the company. Ann
will verify that.
[17:28] <Kelos_al-Hazar> "Do you expect me to talk?" "No, Mr. Bond, I
expect you to die!"
[17:28] <Kendall> so unless there is a large push on advertising it
aint' going to fly if you'll pardon my candor
[17:28] <TerryOBrien> Cheap Ass also goes "Kill Dr. Lucky" and "Save
Dr. Lucky".
[17:29] <TerryOBrien> Lots of fun stuff.
[17:29] <Olympia> Kendall, we have a couple of things going for us,
including Ann's experience in the industry, as well as the
cross-marketing between the gaming industry and the fan base on the
literary side.
[17:29] <Kitsune> I still say NO game beats Conspiracy X.  It is GOOD,
as far as RPGs go.
[17:29] <Kiri`> ren faire.. which one is that?
[17:29] <VirtualBabe> Interesting name for the company though
[17:29] <TerryOBrien> Another company in this same line is Looney
Labs. Learned to play their Fluxx game by watching it in a con suite.
[17:30] <Olympia> I can't remember the name, Kiri, but it's fun esp.
if you've ever worked at a ren faire ;)
[17:30] <Kelos_al-Hazar> That game is amazing...
[17:30] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Fluxx is wild...
[17:30] <Kiri`> fluxx is a lot of fun =)  the 3rd expansion pack (3rd
edition? ) is  fun
[17:30] <Olympia> There are several people working on the game who are
also veterans in the industry, so that helps too.
[17:30] <Kiri`> oly - will look fo rit .. =-)
[17:30] * Winston has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:30] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met Winston
[17:30] <VirtualBabe> That's one I've never encountered
[17:30] <Mistyck> hi Winston
[17:30] <Kiri`> hello winston!
[17:30] <Olympia> Hi Winston.
[17:30] <B_Raven> hi Winston
[17:30] <kirienne> hello Winston
[17:30] <RainTurtle> hi
[17:30] <RainbowDragon> Hello and welcome, Winston!
[17:30] <TerryOBrien> Gotta love Fluxx. One of the easiest games to
learn I've ever seen.
[17:30] <the_Bee> greetings Winston
[17:31] <Kelos_al-Hazar> "Sets" is good, too, but can drive you batty.
[17:31] * Winston is now known as jp
[17:31] <Kendall> while I appreciate the work Ann has done, to be
honest I have never heard of Ghostgames and probalby wouldn't have if
she had been a Deryni fan
[17:31] <VirtualBabe> Where would one find it terry?
[17:31] <Mistyck> hi JP
[17:31] <Genevieve> :is fond of Grave Diggers From Outer Space.
[17:31] <Olympia> There is a third aspect of the DA material and
that's the books themselves. There is a ton of material in them that
can be used in any high fantasy campaign. Much richer than a lot of
what's out there but more accessible.
[17:31] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Got a copy of Fluxx at Wal-Mart, IIRC..
[17:31] <Olympia> Grey Ghost Press, Kendall.
[17:31] <the_Bee> Do these games have equipment, or just dice and
lists of rules?
[17:32] <Olympia> (I like "It Came From the Late, Late Show" myself)
[17:32] <TerryOBrien> Fluxx? Try http://www.looneylabs.com/.
[17:32] <Kendall> in the stores I visit it is hard enough to get them
to order anything
[17:32] <Ghostgames> back (happy doggies, pork in their dinner
tonight)
[17:32] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Fluxx is a card game, pure and simple.
[17:32] <Olympia> As with any rpg, it's best to reserve judgment until
the game comes out. :)
[17:32] <VirtualBabe> Grave diggers from outer space, sounds like an
Ed Wood movie ;-)
[17:32] <the_Bee> card games i can understand
[17:32] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Not when the rules can change literally every
play! LOL!
[17:32] <TerryOBrien> Looney Labs is named for its founder, Any
Looney. (That is his real name: took a LOT of flack for it when he was
younger.)
[17:32] <Genevieve> That's the style of it, VirtualBabe -- it's all
about B-movies, stock characters and monsters and situations and bad
FX. A lot of fun.
[17:32] <jp> hi
[17:32] <Kendall> much less from someone not very well known
[17:33] <nuik> Dumb unrelated question: is final fantasy 8,9 and10 as
good as final fantasy 7
[17:33] <Olympia> Kendall, I'm curious, which rpgs do you play
currently?
[17:33] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Fluxx is very well named...because that's
what the rules are in constantly: Flux.
[17:33] * VirtualBabe LOVES Ed Wood Movies!
[17:33] <Ghostgames> Consipiracy X -- which version? the original?
GURPS? or the Unisystem version that's in the works? ;-)
[17:33] <Olympia> FFX is AWESOME! FF8 is ::yawn:: really talking, IMO
[17:33] <Genevieve> Next time you're in a gaming store, virtualBabe,
have a look . . .
[17:33] <Olympia> talking = talky, chatty
[17:33] <Kitsune> original, I think...
[17:33] <the_Bee> his parents named him ANY?
[17:34] <Mistyck> lol!
[17:34] <TerryOBrien> Oops. HE's named Andy. My typo.
[17:34] <Mistyck> aah
[17:34] <Kendall> I have visited about 8 stores in Wisconsin and
Minnesota none of which have heard of a Deryni RPG game
[17:34] * Kelos_al-Hazar thinks his name had to have been Andy...
[17:34] <Olympia> It's not out yet, Kendall :)
[17:34] <VirtualBabe> I can believe that he would have taken a whole
bunch of flack for that name
[17:34] <Kendall> or Ghostgames :)
[17:34] * jp I've heard of a boy names Sue, but realy!
[17:34] * Tieg has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:34] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met Tieg
[17:34] <Mistyck> Kendall:  It's Grey Ghost Press
[17:34] <Olympia> Ghostgames is Ann's screen name, not the name of the
company
[17:34] <Mistyck> hi Tieg
[17:34] <the_Bee> hi tieg
[17:35] <Ghostgames> Ask if they've heard of Fudge.
[17:35] <kirienne> hi Tieg
[17:35] <RainTurtle> hi
[17:35] <Tieg> hi Mistyck, and everyone else :)
[17:35] <Mistyck> I'm sure in Milwaukee they had Fudge books
[17:35] <Tieg> hi KK
[17:35] <Kendall> I know it's not out which is my point
[17:35] <Mistyck> since GenCon used to be there
[17:35] <KK> Hi, Tieg.
[17:35] <Olympia> Kendall, you need to look for Fudge (the system) and
Terra Incognita.
[17:35] <jp> I saw Fudge in London
[17:35] <Genevieve> I've found Fudge books in Southampton in England
-- I'm sure they have them in Milwaukee in America. ;)
[17:35] <Ghostgames> Or "Gamemastering Secrets." That's our most
recent book.
[17:36] <Olympia> Gamemastering Secrets is worth it for those cartoons
alone!!!!!
[17:36] <the_Bee> i've been to the fudge website ( i think) but can't
figure out how to actually PLAY it
[17:36] <Olympia> Not to mention Aaron Rosenberg's very good advice!
[17:36] <VirtualBabe> I've not yet seen them in Canada, but then
again, I don't frequent gaming stores like I used to
[17:36] <Olympia> I'm sorry, Kendall, I may have missed your respond -
which rpgs do you play?
[17:36] <jp> and Birmingham
[17:36] <Mistyck> Fudge is easy to play
[17:37] <the_Bee> if I get to Darkove, I want to learn how to play and
RPG. any kind.
[17:37] <Kendall> I don't live in a large city, it takes three hours
to get to one and most of the people I play any games can't afford to
go to Milwuakee every time they need an update
[17:37] <Mistyck> don't have to remember all the dice
[17:37] <Olympia> Ann, I think running an RPG session of DA should
become a standard feature of Darkover!
[17:37] <TerryOBrien> Try Amber, Mistyck. there's no dice at all.
[17:37] <the_Bee> Do you have to be phusically in the same place to
play all rpg's?
[17:37] <Olympia> At night. In costume!
[17:37] <Olympia> No, Bee - lots of people run them online in chat
rooms
[17:37] * Ghostgames hates persistent typos -- such as the
"expierience" and "everday" typos my fingers are insisting on this
week
[17:38] <Harvey> What costume do I need?
[17:38] <Genevieve> I admit to being an Amber fan. (Based on the
Zelazny books, Mistyck.)
[17:38] * jp only an elephant can remember all the dice
[17:38] <Olympia> I play in a 7th Sea one online. Oooo Harvey... we'll
talk!
[17:38] <Harvey> :)
[17:38] <Harvey> I mean for DA, not for you.
[17:38] <TerryOBrien> Not always, Bee: I've been online several times,
and even over the phone once (for 2+ hours, long distance.)
[17:38] <the_Bee> bynw runs an online game
[17:38] <Harvey> Is DA the Deryni game or something else.
[17:38] <the_Bee> what sites, Terry?
[17:38] <Ghostgames> Bee: the fudgerpg.com website (and the Fudge game
core rules) assume you already know what a roleplaying game is, and
how (in general) to play....
[17:38] <Genevieve> I ran an online game for a few years, playing it
on a particular Mush in a chatroom there.
[17:38] <Olympia> DA = Deryni Adventures (sorry my shorthan)
[17:38] <Ghostgames> The Deryni Adventure Game makes no such
assumptions. :-)
[17:38] <Kendall> I play MTG, Redemption, and lots of computer RPG
games
[17:39] <Harvey> I thought so.  I need a costume then.
[17:39] <Kiri`> afk
[17:39] <Mistyck> I liked when we played at Darkover
[17:39] <TerryOBrien> It was a looong time ago, back on the (gone and
not forgotten) GEnie system.
[17:39] <Olympia> Kendall, like Diablo, Might & Magic, etc.?
[17:40] <Olympia> ::looks at Terry --- you don't look that old!
[17:40] <Kendall> I want io make it Gencon, but it will be hard to get
there
[17:40] <Mistyck> I hadn't played in years....it was a blast!
[17:40] <Wrengl> i can't get there
[17:40] * VirtualBabe will admit to a bit of an interest in the
various command and conquor games
[17:40] <the_Bee> saying" I leap across a chasm is just not as
thrilling as leaping across a chasm
[17:40] <Genevieve> Alas, chasms are hard to find these days.
[17:40] <Olympia> ooooo VB!!!!! C&C and WCIII - I just started that...
as an orc no less
[17:40] <Wrengl> then again it is too close to my last workday and we
are doing castlecon the Fourth of July weekend
[17:41] <TerryOBrien> <shrugs> I can remember watching the first moon
landing. I was in the Boy Scouts at the time.
[17:41] <Olympia> Ahh, Bee... wish you could sit in on some of our
games.. believe me! they are very exciting!
[17:41] * Kelos_al-Hazar is a big fan of C&C, but finds StarCraft
annoyingly difficult
[17:41] <Kendall> Might and Magic,  Elder Scrolls, Realms of Arkania,
[17:41] <Olympia> I agree, Kelos.
[17:41] <Kendall> and others
[17:41] <Mistyck> Bynw just started another on-line game
[17:41] <Olympia> I stopped M&M after they released M&M 8 but I'm
going to start Heroes of M&M 3 soon
[17:41] <Mistyck> or rather, adventure
[17:41] <Olympia> Elder Scrolls is good.
[17:41] <the_Bee> maybe I can sometime
[17:42] <Olympia> We had a Star Wars rpg that ran over 15 years real
time!
[17:42] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Even with the strat guides in hand, it's
hard, sometimes TOO hard, esp. as a Terran.
[17:42] <Genevieve> Impressive, Olympia.
[17:42] <the_Bee> online or in person, Olympia?
[17:42] <VirtualBabe> another series I enjoy is the Impressions
city-building sims
[17:42] <Olympia> It was astounding. IN person. Weekly gaming group.
[17:42] <Olympia> And we've had a Runequest campaign that is entering
its 17th year. :)
[17:42] <Kiri`> impressions city building
[17:42] <Kiri`> ???
[17:43] <Olympia> And... it's basically an all-girl gaming group with
a male GM
[17:43] * Kelos_al-Hazar ran a ADnD campaign that ran for just over 3
years...
[17:43] <Olympia> Believe it or not, only one of us plays a caster -
the rest of us are tanks!!!!! :)
[17:43] <VirtualBabe> Pharoh/cleopatra, Zeus/Posidon, Ceasar III
[17:43] <Olympia> Pharoah so rocks!!!!! as does Caesar III!!!
[17:43] <Genevieve> Oh, I believe you. I've got plenty of female rpg
player friends who love going for the jugular. :)
[17:43] <Olympia> (my mother calls that the "build bathrooms for the
little people" game)
[17:44] <Olympia> Jugular, carotid, femoral... I'm an equal
opportunity warrior!
[17:44] * thatdarncat has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:44] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met thatdarncat
[17:44] * VirtualBabe giggles
[17:44] <thatdarncat> ello all
[17:44] <Kitsune> lo.
[17:44] <Andy_Hock> Hi tdc.
[17:44] <Olympia> alo
[17:44] <RainbowDragon> Hello and welcome, TDC
[17:44] <VirtualBabe> Hi cat
[17:44] <Genevieve> *chuckles*
[17:44] <the_Bee> meow TDC
[17:44] <thatdarncat> I've got a sedina who keeps peeking over my
shoulder
[17:44] <jp> hi cat
[17:44] <B_Raven> hi TDC
[17:44] <Wrengl> hi tdc
[17:44] <kirienne> Katherine, what are some games Kelson would have
played as a child?
[17:44] <Olympia> GIANT HUGS TO SEDINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[17:44] * thatdarncat sets mode: -o thatdarncat
[17:44] <Olympia> He played chess, right?
[17:44] <kirienne> hi Thatdarncat
[17:45] <Olympia> and maybe Nine Men Morris?
[17:45] <kirienne> and Hi Sedina
[17:45] <Mistyck> Hi TDC and Sedina
[17:45] <Andy_Hock> Get her in here on somebody's computer, tdc.
We're tied with the record for people in here now.  Need one more to
break it.
[17:45] <thatdarncat> Olympia - sedina gives ya hugs back :)
[17:45] <Wrengl> i don't see sedina!
[17:45] <KK> He played Cardounet, which is a chesslike game with a
board and men similar to chess pieces.
[17:45] <Mistyck> she's over tdc's shoulder
[17:45] <the_Bee> she's been turned into a cat, pat
[17:45] <Wrengl> ah i see her now
[17:45] <thatdarncat> lol she says she's waiting for her bf to get
ready so they can go to his dad's
[17:45] <TerryOBrien> Would dice games be restricted or forbidden?
[17:45] <thatdarncat> you could just fjoin some people andy
[17:45] <jp> look, there behind the cat
[17:45] <Olympia> Katherine, the rules for that are printed somewhere
aren't they?
[17:46] <kirienne> thanks, I needed it for a story idea
[17:46] <Andy_Hock> That'd be cheating, tdc . ..
[17:46] <Mistyck> KK:  what other games would Kelson have played?
[17:46] <thatdarncat> bah
[17:46] <Olympia> Shiral is going to try to get here
[17:46] <thatdarncat> hmmmm
[17:46] <KK> Must have played dice games, because Morgan thinks about
Derryn trying to use M's Ward Cubes like dice.
[17:46] <thatdarncat> not oppered or I'd invite seri ;)
[17:46] <Andy_Hock> I have a clone on the server now.  Would be easier
to cheat that way . . .
[17:46] <Kiri`> what about outside games?
[17:46] <the_Bee> what ball games did people play then--before rubber
and boucing balls?
[17:46] <Genevieve> War games of any sort?
[17:46] <Mistyck> aah, ok...like "snake eyes"?
[17:46] <Kelos_al-Hazar> But uncool.
[17:46] <KK> Ball games, games with toy knights, sail boats.
[17:47] <Kiri`> anything like an early version of cricket?
[17:47] <Olympia> eeek! little metal men again!!!!! must be MORGAN's
influence! <winks at Katherin>
[17:47] <the_Bee> kickball?
[17:47] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Didn't I see something about a game similar
to soccer, too?
[17:47] <VirtualBabe> Dice games did exist. In fact Alaric  (I think,
or was it Tiercel) mentioned seeing a set of ward cubes with pips
[17:47] <jp> polo
[17:47] <the_Bee> it was Tiercel
[17:47] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Or was that??? Nah. That was in a Feist
story.
[17:47] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Oops. Ride to church here!
[17:47] <Kelos_al-Hazar> K...I'm dropping back to peer patrol.
[17:47] <Kiri`> brb  Loki needs his medicine
[17:47] * Kelos_al-Hazar is now known as Kelos[patrol]
[17:47] * Kelos[patrol] has left #Deryni_Destinations
[17:47] <kirienne> bye Kelos
[17:48] <KK> Probably could have leather-covered balls; dunno about
soccer.  Archery and ring tilting--battle-related skill encouragers,
sort of like Highland games.
[17:48] <Olympia> knightly games
[17:48] <Mistyck> cool
[17:48] <Olympia> Tilting at the quintain
[17:48] <KK> Nighters, Kelos.
[17:48] <Kendall> like tournaments?
[17:48] <jp> whats that American game peeknuckle, poohunkle? something
like that.
[17:48] <VirtualBabe> but no caber tossing?
[17:48] <thatdarncat> Hi KK :) I don't think we've met but I've heard
a lot about you from Bynw, Teek and Sedina
[17:48] <kirienne> wow, that is way more than I thought of, thanks
bunches
[17:48] <Kiri`> what about with the ladies at court.. say on a sunny
sunday afternoon.. (aside form blind man's bluff)
[17:48] <thatdarncat> if they bribe me enough I'll even say it was all
good ;)
[17:48] <Olympia> probably reserved for the brawny highland marchers
[17:49] <KK> Remember that people had to put a lot more effort into
mere survival, so games were for very young children or else they were
related to battle-skills.
[17:49] <Olympia> chess
[17:49] <Mistyck> I can see Dhugal playing Highland Games
[17:49] <Kiri`> hi tdc
[17:49] <Olympia> oh my. Dhugal. Caber tossing. Shirtless. Ok, I'm
better now
[17:49] <VirtualBabe> LOL
[17:49] <Mistyck> heehee
[17:49] * Celebdraug has joined #Deryni_Destinations

[17:49] <Kendall> I have ashort story coming out on my site about
tournaments
[17:49] * Celebdraug is now known as Sedina
[17:49] <KK> Probably some card games, maybe something similar to Go.
[17:49] <RainTurtle> hi
[17:49] <Andy_Hock> Hi Sedina.
[17:50] <Olympia> My problem is that we used to have a fellow in Caid
named Dhugal who was just too cute for words, so I always think of him
when I see Dhugal's name
[17:50] <Mistyck> Hi Sedina
[17:50] <the_Bee> didn't caber-tossing originate as a way to get logs
across deep glens with fast streams?
[17:50] <Olympia> Go? Really?????
[17:50] <kirienne> ooohhh, the image of that Olympia, <g>
[17:50] * Sedina is on IRC
[17:50] <RainbowDragon> Hello and welcome, Sedina
[17:50] <Sedina> hello...
[17:50] <Olympia> checkers, I would think, though.
[17:50] <Kendall> hello Sedina, LTNS

[17:50] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met Seri
[17:50] <Mistyck> HI Seri
[17:50] <Wrengl> hi sedina
[17:50] <RainTurtle> hi
[17:50] <Seri> Hi lo :)
[17:50] <TerryOBrien> I don't suppose Kelson played with marbles, did
he?
[17:50] <Wrengl> hi seri
[17:50] <jp> hi seri
[17:50] <Mistyck> yea!  I think we have a new chat record now!
[17:50] <Olympia> Dhugal and Derry... cabertossing... ok, getting the
fan now.
[17:50] <kirienne> hi Seri, hi Sedina
[17:50] <KK> Yep re caber toss.  And there's one where they heft a
bale of hay over a fence--which is related to picking up sheep in
distress and moving them.
[17:50] <Andy_Hock> WE HAVE A NEW RECORD!!  *ding*  *ding*
[17:50] <Sedina> Figured that since Cole is taking so long to get
ready, I might as well stop looking over tdc's shoulder and actually
come in myself  :)
[17:51] <Olympia> "sheep in distress" ::so not going THERE::
[17:51] <KK> Marbles, probably yes.
[17:51] <Mistyck> cool!
[17:51] <Kiri`> what about with the ladies at court.. say on a sunny
sunday afternoon.. (aside form blind man's bluff)
[17:51] <Olympia> betting games, too, yes?
[17:51] <Mistyck> card games of any sort?
[17:51] <kirienne> cool to new record
[17:51] <KK> LOL, Olympia. I had in mind sheep getting tangled up in
briars and the like.  They're pretty stupid, you know--which is why we
talk of sheep in derogatory terms.
[17:51] <jp> croquet?
[17:51] <the_Bee> the romans at the crucifiction played dice for
jesus's garments
[17:51] <Olympia> Ladies wondering just how far Dhugal can toss that
caber....
[17:51] * Mak is on IRC
[17:52] * Mak has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:52] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met Mak
[17:52] <Mistyck> hi Mak
[17:52] <RainTurtle> Hi, Mak
[17:52] <Kendall> hey MAK
[17:52] <Andy_Hock> Hi, Mak.
[17:52] <kirienne> hi Mak
[17:52] <Tieg> Hi Mak
[17:52] <Olympia> Hi Mak!
[17:52] <jp> hi mak
[17:52] <Mak> Hello, All!
[17:52] <Wrengl> hi mak
[17:52] <the_Bee> hiya MAK
[17:52] * thatdarncat watches his screen fill with "Hi mak"
[17:52] <thatdarncat> hi mak :)
[17:52] <KK> And, if he tosses that caber, just how much this will
disturb his kilt.  ;-)
[17:52] <Sedina> Hi, Mak...long time no see  :)
[17:52] <Olympia> Almost every culture has some sort of "dice" game -
regardless of whether we are talking about knucklebones or cubes
[17:52] <Kitsune> yo Mak.
[17:52] <Kendall> careful
[17:52] <jp> KK, realy
[17:52] <Genevieve> (I should not be having flashbacks to Carry On Up
The Khyber.)
[17:52] <jp> lol
[17:52] <KK> That was for Sedina's benefit.  :-)
[17:52] <Kendall> this is a PG13 rated chat room
[17:53] <Olympia> Dhugal... kilt... no shirt....
[17:53] <Mistyck> ooh, KK...that thought has a lot of us swooning!
[17:53] <Wrengl> lol katherine
[17:53] * Sedina is going to be nice and not make a comment about KK's
kilt bit simply because she's got her boyfriend standing right beside
her and does wish to terrify him too much
[17:53] * VirtualBabe fans herself
[17:53] <Kendall> not me
[17:53] <KK> LOL!
[17:53] <RainTurtle> A sheep in my friend's flock got its hoof stuck
in the mud one day.  Instead of pulling the hoof out of the mud, it
just lay down in the growing puddle and resigned itself to drowning,
until my friend showed up, picked up the sheep, and tugged the hoof
loose
[17:53] <Olympia> It's ok, Kendall. We don't get much worse than this.
[17:53] <KK> I rest my case.  Sheep are stupid.
[17:53] <Mistyck> lol
[17:53] <Sedina> lol
[17:53] <Wrengl> indeed
[17:53] <KK> I understand that domesticated turkeys are even dumber;
they'll look up at the rain and drown.
[17:54] <Olympia> I like to think of lambs as smart but mutton as
stupid. Think about it. "Mutton" just SOUNDS stooopid.
[17:54] <Kendall> it's been so long since I have actually been for a
chat I had forgotten
[17:54] <Mistyck> yes it does
[17:54] <the_Bee> so what does it say about the gospels that the sheep
are favored and the goats banished?
[17:54] <Kendall> because we need a sheperd
[17:54] <Ghostgames> We had a "beached" horse one time. "Binny,"
something bin something was his real name (he was an Arabian
stallion).
[17:54] <the_Bee> why not a goatherd?
[17:54] <KK> Well, I think sheep taste better--and if you want a
sheep, you need to be able to separate them.
[17:54] <jp> i think thats sheep are FLAVORED
[17:54] <Kendall> we are lost without Him
[17:54] <Olympia> That is a carry-over from the Old Testament and
dietary laws and hooves 'n cud 'n stuff, Bee
[17:55] <Genevieve> (The mountain sheep are sweeter / But the valley
sheep are fatter )
[17:55] <VirtualBabe> Goats were kosher too
[17:55] * Tieg Quit (User has been mind-ripped)
[17:55] <Kendall> ahh
[17:55] <Ghostgames> I nearly had a heart attack, seeing him "down" in
the snow. And when I ran out to him to see if he was okay, I tried to
get him up. He'd lift his head up when I tugged on the halter, but
then just groan and flop down again.
[17:55] <Olympia> I know, VB although I don't think I will EVER be
able to eat goat!
[17:55] <Mistyck> goat is nasty
[17:55] <KK> A beached horse.  Is that like being cast?
[17:55] <Mistyck> really greasy
[17:55] <Ghostgames> I called my husband and the vet who lived on the
property at the time, and we just couldn't get him up. We thought he
was dying.
[17:55] <Olympia> Ooooo Ann!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! an Arabian
stallion??? sounds like a dream horse.
[17:55] <Ghostgames> (he was 28 years old.)
[17:55] <VirtualBabe> goat-milk cheese isn't toooooo bad
[17:56] <the_Bee> I've had goat and liked it.  gamey lamb
[17:56] <Sedina> okay, time for me to run away now.  We're off to his
dad's for a mother's day celebration...and I think that's his dad
calling right now.
[17:56] <Mak> Goat cheese is excellent
[17:56] <Olympia> Ah goat-milk cheese - now I can be VERY religious
about that :)
[17:56] <KK> Olympia, why the Talmudic bias against goat?
[17:56] <Sedina> have a wonderful Mother's Day everyone!
[17:56] <Olympia> Bye Sedina
[17:56] <Mak> Bye Sedina
[17:56] <Sedina> huggles all around
[17:56] <kirienne> bye Sedina
[17:56] <jp> bye
[17:56] <the_Bee> scapegoats
[17:56] <kirienne> huggles
[17:56] <Olympia> Oh, no bias - goat is allowed.
[17:56] <Seri> me too
[17:56] <Kendall> fair thee well milady
[17:56] <Seri> bye bye
[17:56] <Mistyck> bye Sedina, have fun
[17:56] <KK> Nighters, Sedina.
[17:56] * Tieg has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:56] <DeryniBot> Hail and Well met Tieg
[17:56] <Sedina> night
[17:56] <Ghostgames> We finally figured out that he'd gotten down to
roll in the snow, but had positioned himself on a /very/ slight
incline, so his feet were ever so slightly higher than his belly. With
the snow impacted under his weight, he simply couldn't get enough
leverage to get back on his feet....
[17:56] <VirtualBabe> bye-eee sedina
[17:56] * Sedina Quit
[17:56] <VirtualBabe> a
[17:56] <Kendall> wb tieg
[17:56] * Seri has left #Deryni_Destinations
[17:56] <Wrengl> hi tieg
[17:56] <kirienne> wb tieg
[17:56] <jp> wb
[17:56] <Tieg> thanks :)
[17:56] <Mak> wb, tieg
[17:57] <the_Bee> goat are more independent?  leaders like their
followers to _follow_.
[17:57] <Mistyck> wb Tieg
[17:57] <KK> They, why do the scriptures seem to prefer sheep to
goats?
[17:57] <KK> Is it a taste thing?
[17:57] <Olympia> That's a translation thing I suspect.
[17:57] <jp> too busy writing on the goat skin
[17:57] <Kiri`> sheep were easier to herd.
[17:57] <TerryOBrien> GG: I thought Arabians were smart. OR, at least,
smarter than that.
[17:57] <KK> Is it maybe just that they're different from sheep, like
apples and oranges are different?
[17:57] <Ghostgames> So Charlotte took him by the tail and Paul took
him by the head and we swung him around in the snow until his feet
were "downhill." Then Charlotte and I tugged on his halter while Paul
shoved against his back. He finally struggled to his feet, with our
help, trotted off, shook himself, and stood there /very/ proudly (as
only an Arabian stallion can) with an "I meant to do that" look on his
face.
[17:57] <the_Bee> sheep don't think for themselves
[17:57] <Olympia> You'd have to go back to the aramaic for the exact
words - I've only gone back as far as the Greek and my memory is gone
in that dept.
[17:57] <Ghostgames> (He passed away about 4 years later.)
[17:57] <Genevieve> Maybe it's because the parable-teller wanted a
good example of an animal which would wilfully reject leadership in
the right direction. Goats might do that, but sheep wouldn't, ergo
goats became the "bad guys"?
[17:58] <Olympia> Ann, that's a great story!
[17:58] <Olympia> Goats DO tend to be more stubborn than sheep, I
believe. Although I grew up in the city so I could be wrong.
[17:58] <VirtualBabe> No horse is really noted for it's high
intelligence
[17:58] <KK> But aren't there goatherds, just like there are
sheepherds?
[17:58] <Mistyck> yes there are
[17:58] <Olympia> Speaking of which, did ya'll see the Kentucky Derby!
That was amazing!
[17:58] <RainTurtle> Sheep in that era followed the individual
shepherd, as the same shepherd would keep the same sheep for many
years....it was something the people of that time and place understood
[17:58] <Olympia> yes, Katherine there are.
[17:58] <Mistyck> especially mountain goatherds
[17:59] <Genevieve> Didn't Terry Pratchett discuss this one, too, in
his _Small Gods_ book?
[17:59] * VirtualBabe begins humming "The Lonely goatherd"
[17:59] <jp> ?
[17:59] <Ghostgames> VB: Arabians are. :-) Binny was smart, but he
thought he was still  a /young/ horse. The very slight incline would
have given him no problems even a couple years before.
[17:59] <Olympia> I'm SURE you can find a highly annotated Talmudic
discussion about goats and sheep on the web
[17:59] <Olympia> me too, VB
[17:59] <KK> And goats don't recognize their goatherd?  What is it
about goats that makes them so different?
[17:59] <KK> Besides those slitty eyes.
[17:59] <Olympia> bad tempers?
[17:59] <Olympia> head butting?
[17:59] <Olympia> eek! rugby players!
[17:59] <Mistyck> stubbornness, they eat everything in sight?
[17:59] <Ghostgames> Goats certainly can recognize their goatherd....
[18:00] <VirtualBabe> can eating?
[18:00] <RainTurtle> They aren't as obedient...
[18:00] <Kiri`> no wool.. less meat..
[18:00] <jp> Late night parties
[18:00] <KK> Well, maybe goats <are> a bit more aggressive, whereas
sheep are meeker.
[18:00] <Olympia> true, goats have hair
[18:00] <Kiri`> yes those late night goat parties.. can be tought
[18:00] <Olympia> ::choking on my coffee::
[18:00] <Olympia> OK THAT was an image, Kiri!
[18:00] <Kiri`> winks
[18:00] <VirtualBabe> That is probably closest to being right
Katherine
[18:01] <KK> That would be as compared to a late night sheep party?
[18:01] <Kendall> lol
[18:01] <Mistyck> lol
[18:01] <the_Bee> I read once that the Chinese language uses the same
word for sheep and goat.  How would you translate the parable about
separatting the sheep from the goats into chinese?
[18:01] <Kiri`> sheep don't party..
[18:01] <Kiri`> with the image/character for mountain
[18:01] <Wrengl> lol
[18:01] <KK> Are you sure?
[18:01] <jp> the sheep shall inherit the world
[18:01] <Mistyck> lol, JP
[18:01] <Olympia> FOUND IT!!!!!
[18:01] * thatdarncat is now known as tdc_angeldinner
[18:02] <Kendall> eureka
[18:02] <Olympia> Although goat's milk was widely used as a remedy for
a chest cold (Proverbs 27:27), the rabbis frowned upon the rearing of
goats. Goats were regarded as "armed robbers who would jump over
people's fences and destroy their plants (see illustration below).[2]
Although sheep and goats both belong to the category of small cattle
called  (tzon) in Hebrew, there is a marked difference in the grazing
habits of each species. Sheep crop at an even height several
centimeters above ground
[18:02] <Kiri`> katherine - reasonably..   sheep tend to fall asleep
with the sun.. goats stay up and clatter about =)
