[17:53] * KK  has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:53] * ChanServ sets mode: +o KK
[17:53] * @Shiral shines her halo
[17:53] <@Shiral> Hello Katherine
[17:53] <Debbie-VB> Hi Katherine
[17:53] <Mistyck_heating_dinner> hi KK
[17:53] <Olympia> and I don't plan to marry anyone named Ansel thank you very much. Sorry, Carol. According to the Codex, Fiona marries someone named Ansel.
[17:53] <the_Bee> Welcome KK!
[17:53] <kirienne> hi Kathrine
[17:53] <@bynw> hiyas Katherine
[17:53] <Olympia> Hi, Katherine
[17:53] <@KK> Wow, we've got a crowd tonight!
[17:53] <Majorsprop> Hi Katherine
[17:53] <Temprus> welcome kk
[17:53] <Mistyck_heating_dinner> yes ma'am a new record
[17:53] <Sparkles> See - everybody left too soon.  Hi Katherine
[17:53] <Carol> ahhh... okie dokie Nancy... and welcome KK!
[17:53] * Mistyck_heating_dinner is now known as Mistyck
[17:53] <JastaElf> Hi Katherine :-)
[17:53] <Debbie-VB> we had even more of a crowd earlier
[17:54] <Harvey> New record.
[17:54] <hygilac> Hi Katherine?
[17:54] * Devin cheers. Now that KK is here, can share his news.
[17:54] <Mistyck> KK:  did you have a good week?
[17:54] <RainTurtle> hi, Katherine
[17:54] <Kelos_al-Hazar> If I have to reboot, WILL be back soonest.
[17:54] <@KK> Good news, Devin?
[17:54] <Carol> YEAH Devin!!
[17:54] * Devin has finally found out *why* he's been unemployed for
16 months...
[17:54] <@KK> Why?
[17:54] <Olympia> Why, Devin?
[17:54] <Debbie-VB> Why?
[17:54] <Sparkles> Yes?
[17:54] * Carol waits at Devin's feet for the news.
[17:54] * @Shiral listens hard
[17:55] * kirienne listens
[17:55] <JastaElf> LET the man TYPE....  ;-)
[17:55] <@KK> Jasta!  You're here too!
[17:55] <Devin> ...because God was preparing the perfect job. I start tomorrow with a company called 3sharp -- I'll basically be getting the ultimate geek job -- playing with software/hardware and writing about it. Lots of tech writing. One of my bosses has 11 tech books under his belt, including 3 with O'Reilly (top tech publisher).
[17:55] * Carol hands KK a mug of mulled cider and a fresh hot cinnabun
[17:55] <Ghostgames> Hi, Katherine!
[17:55] <JastaElf> Yup!  *wiggles fingers*
[17:55] <Carol> cool!
[17:55] <Olympia> YEAH, Devin!
[17:55] * Ghostgames puts her empty chicken soup bowl aside
[17:55] <@Shiral> YESSSSS!!!
[17:55] <RainTurtle> Excellent, Devin  :)
[17:55] <Temprus> congrats
[17:55] <@Shiral> Congratulations, Devin
[17:55] <Mistyck> awesome Devin!
[17:55] <@KK> Wow!  That's terrific, Devin!
[17:55] <Mistyck> Congrats!
[17:55] <kirienne> Cool Devin, congrats
[17:55] <Devin> When they saw my long-term goals included publishing, their response was, "We *will* help you do that."
[17:55] <Olympia> Do you need more soup, Ann?
[17:55] <the_Bee> congrats Devin!
[17:55] <Debbie-VB> Yaaaayyyyyyyyyyy for Devin!!!!!!!
[17:55] <Sparkles> Congratulations Devin
[17:56] <@KK> Truly excellent!
[17:56] <hygilac> Terrific, Devin!
[17:56] * Carol hands Devin a glass of celebratory bubbly
[17:56] * Devin bounces. So, has fun freelance gaming writing, and main job will be geek tech writing too! Writing, writing, writing!
[17:56] <JastaElf> Good News, Devin!  Congrats!
[17:56] * @Shiral gives Devin a congratulatory hug
[17:56] * Kelos_al-Hazar wonders if there's any way for Devin to put in a good word for someone who could telecommute...
[17:56] <Ghostgames> Congratulations, Devin!
[17:56] * @Shiral sends Jasta Perfect Job Woodgies
[17:56] <Devin> Kelos_al-Hazar: not at the present time, but perhaps soon.
[17:56] <Temprus> agreed Kelos :)
[17:56] <JastaElf> Yeah really....  :-(
[17:57] <Carol> what in heaven's name are woodgies???  ;)
[17:57] * Olympia lights a Big Get Perfect Job Candle for Kelos and for Jasta
[17:57] <@KK> Yes, we must hope that the Perfect Job is contagious.
[17:57] <Mistyck> yep
[17:57] <JastaElf> I could use a few thousand woodgies right now
[17:57] <Olympia> It's a midwest/eastern thing, Carol. No woodgies west of Denver <grin>
[17:57] * kirienne sends another supply of perfect job woodgies to Jasta
[17:57] <Carol> but I'm in Chicago!!
[17:57] <Debbie-VB> exactly what they sound like Carol
[17:57] <Devin> I do know they're wanting to hire more folks in upcoming months, so if you don't mind doing technical writing, by all means forward me your resume and samples (or URL to website with that, if you have it) and I'll pass it on.
[17:57] <Mistyck> Nancy:  Shame on you!  Woodgies are for EVERYONE!
[17:57] <hygilac> Tennessee woodgies on the way to Jasta. . .
[17:57] * JastaElf is approaching serious hock here.
[17:57] <@Shiral> Hey, there ARE woodgies in California now
[17:57] <JastaElf> Devin, I do Tech Writing!!
[17:57] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Quite so, but one weird thing is that I can only make a max of $9000 a year....
[17:57] <the_Bee> carol:  we send each other job woodgies, writing woodgies, health woodgies...magic
[17:57] * kirienne sends telecommuting job woodgies to kelos
[17:58] <Olympia> I don't think woodgies actually originate in So Cal tho although we permit them to be imported
[17:58] <Devin> JastaElf: as I said, forward me the relevant info and I'll pass it on.
[17:58] <Carol> got it!
[17:58] * @Shiral has been sending all woodgies she can spare to Jasta for months
[17:58] <Devin> JastaElf: do you mind working on MS stuff?
[17:58] <JastaElf> DEVIN: back-channel me your e-mail addy!!
[17:58] <JastaElf> I don't mind at ALL!  :-)
[17:58] <Ghostgames> Sharon: I might be able to hook you up with a part-time tech writing/editing/betatesting/tech support job if you're up to tech support for both Windows and Mac....
[17:58] <JastaElf> I do it every day
[17:58] <Ghostgames> It pays better than the Grey Ghost gig. :-)
[17:58] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Pro or anti Microsoft, Devin? LOL
[17:58] <JastaElf> I can do that, Ann.  :-)
[17:59] * JastaElf grins
[17:59] <Carol> ok, we've gotten Devin's wonder-news!  (and mega-congrats)... is there any KK news?
[17:59] <Devin> JastaElf: um, don't you have it from the Atlas stuff?
[17:59] <JastaElf> Probably but access is dodgy right now
[17:59] <Devin> JastaElf: Aha!
[18:00] <@KK> Writing this week went well.  I had to do a lot of rewrite because of dropping a major character: Marie.
[18:00] <@Shiral> Glad to hear it went well, Katherine
[18:00] <Ghostgames> didn't work out, eh?
[18:00] <RainTurtle> :)
[18:00] <hygilac> dropping?
[18:00] <@KK> This is all part of the process of layering and closer and closer approximations.
[18:00] <kirienne> :-) KK
[18:00] <@Wrengl> howdy katherine!
[18:00] <@KK> Eliminating.  Erasing.
[18:00] <@KK> Hi, Wrengl.
[18:00] <Sparkles> Katherine, I know that the family trees are in the Codex and on the website, but someday could we get a just a published version of the family trees?  I'm a paper person.
[18:00] <hygilac> poor Marie
[18:00] <Olympia> I want it to be February 4th and my huge project is done and I can move on to the fun stuff!
[18:01] <Devin> Ghostgames: Ooh! Poster versions of the family trees!
[18:01] <@Wrengl> CONGRATULATIONS ON THE JOB!!!
[18:01] <@KK> We could probably manage some genealogies.
[18:01] <Devin> Wrengl: thanks! :)
[18:01] <Olympia> katherine, it appears that we do have a digital copy of Deryni Checkmate compliments of Kiri
[18:01] <Carol> ooh... Devin!  What a great idea!
[18:01] * Devin thanks everyone for their love, care, woodgies, and prayers.
[18:01] <@Shiral> Yikes, February!
[18:01] <@KK> Wow, Olympia and Kiri!  Please send it on!
[18:01] <@Shiral> Approaching way too fast
[18:01] <Olympia> Once Feb gets here I can focus on the Deryni stuff - Kiri did it, not me.
[18:02] <hygilac> everyone wish me snow days before february!
[18:02] * Olympia adds a Snow for Linda candle
[18:02] * @Shiral wishes hygilac Snow days
[18:02] <Soraya> I have a deryni question: What ever happened to Kyri of the Flame
[18:02] <@KK> Devin, I think by now you realize that this is not just a fan chatroom, it is also a spiritual community.  :-)
[18:02] <Devin> KK: oh yes.
[18:02] * Kelos_al-Hazar may have far more...but is checking each file carefully first.
[18:02] <Soraya> she just sort of disappeared from the Council
[18:02] * Jestyna  has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:02] <@Shiral> It's a family <G>
[18:02] * Kosty  Quit (QUIT: )
[18:02] <@Shiral> Hi Jestyna
[18:02] <Jestyna> Greetings!
[18:02] <the_Bee> didn't Kyri get married?
[18:02] * @bynw also got hired full time at the place he has been temping since august :-)
[18:02] <Sparkles> I would love a poster version.  I like to see it all at once.
[18:02] <@Wrengl> howdy jestyna
[18:02] <hygilac> Tell Kk your other news, Devin
[18:02] <Devin> . o O ( Speaking of which, I need to get off my duff and get certain documents to my spiritual advisors so I can get moving on membership in a certain Order. )
[18:02] <kirienne> hi jestyna
[18:03] <Olympia> Hi Jestyna. Yeah, Bynw!
[18:03] <@KK> She got married--or maybe she was already married and just got pregnant.  (Or maybe she just got pregnant.)  In any case, she has resigned from the CC to be a mommy for a while.
[18:03] <Devin> Linda: You mean Alaric?
[18:03] <@Wrengl> Katherine, Jasta got the earring.  Did you like it?
[18:03] <Jestyna> Hello again KK, Shiral, Wrengl, everyone!
[18:03] <@RainbowDragon> Hooray on Bynw's permanent position!
[18:03] <RainTurtle> hi, Jestyna
[18:03] <Olympia> That earring was exquisite!
[18:03] <the_Bee> hello Jestyna
[18:03] <Temprus> congrats bynw
[18:03] <Mistyck> HI Jestyna
[18:03] <Mistyck> Congrats Bynw
[18:03] <hygilac> no, about being a lector
[18:03] <@Wrengl> olympia jasta liked it!
[18:03] <Soraya> Ah, thanks, KK.
[18:03] <@KK> Wrengl, yes!  Very pretty.  And I hear that Jasta was mightily surprised.  :-)
[18:03] <Carol> who replaced Kyri of the flame in the council?  I'm trying to remember....
[18:04] <@Shiral> My goodness, I can't imagine Kyri of the flame getting it on with any man other than a 'pure' Deryni <EG>
[18:04] <Devin> KK: sounds like a smart lady, too smart to have been on the CC. :)
[18:04] <Olympia> "getting it on" Shiral!!!!
[18:04] * Kolfax  has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:04] <@KK> And Bynw has got a permanent position?  Do tell, Bynw!
[18:04] <@Wrengl> howdy kolfax
[18:04] <@Shiral> Sorry... <EG>
[18:04] <Mistyck> hi Kolfax
[18:04] <Soraya> Yes, Kyri was one of the snotty set, wasn't she
[18:04] <Kolfax> hello all
[18:04] <Olympia> WB, Kolfox
[18:04] <Devin> Shiral: no you're not!
[18:04] <RainTurtle> wb, Kolfax
[18:04] <kirienne> hi kolfax
[18:04] <@Shiral> No, I'm not, not really <EEG>
[18:04] <hygilac> Kolfax--long time no see
[18:04] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Back up to 28, y'all.
[18:04] <Olympia> I need to add a More Discipline and a More Money candle for myself too!
[18:04] <Kolfax> heheh good to be back
[18:04] <@KK> Who's going to be a lector?
[18:04] <@Wrengl> now we need to work on Jasta getting a job
[18:05] <@Wrengl> and the others who need jobs
[18:05] <@KK> (Boy, we've got a lot of threads going here!)
[18:05] <Soraya> I need one
[18:05] <Devin> Linda: Oh! That!
[18:05] <Olympia> Yep. Major Get Jasta a Job Candle
[18:05] <the_Bee> Hannibal Lector?
[18:05] <@KK> LOL, Bee!
[18:05] <Mistyck> that's what I was thinking of too, Bee
[18:05] <@bynw> i've been working temp since august at Wells Fargo and they hired me perm starting on monday
[18:05] * kirienne lights candles for all those that need them lit, for jobs etc
[18:05] <@KK> Ah, excellent!
[18:05] <RainTurtle> Cool, Bynw :)
[18:05] <Soraya> congrats!
[18:05] <@Shiral> Terrific, Bynw
[18:05] <@RainbowDragon> KK: why did you drop Marie
[18:05] <Jestyna> Thanks Kirienne
[18:05] <Ghostgames> Devin's going to be a lector. He's full of good news tonight. :-)
[18:05] <Sparkles> Bee, the sad thing is I was talking about the Punic Wars in class and all my students thought I meant Hannibal Lector
[18:05] <kirienne> cool Bynw, congrats
[18:06] <@Shiral> Ouch Sparkles
[18:06] <@KK> Too many characters, and I found a better way to do what she'd been doing.
[18:06] <Olympia> Oh god, Sparkles!
[18:06] <Jestyna> That is a sorry state Sparkles
[18:06] <@KK> LOL, Hygileac!
[18:06] <Devin> KK: my vicar (who is finishing up her transitional deaconate -- long story, our diocese does things weird) gets ordained on the 25th at St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle, along with 4 other candidates. They each got to invite someone to be a lector in the service. Mine specifically picked the Old Testament reading with me in mind and asked me this morning. :)
[18:06] <@KK> Sorry, Sparkles & Hannibal.
[18:06] <the_Bee> me\ tries not to guffaw at Sparkles's students
[18:06] <Sparkles> Yes, but now the parents think we give too much homework.  It interferes with hockey practice
[18:06] <@KK> Sparkles, what do you teach?
[18:07] <Soraya> and where do you teach?
[18:07] <Olympia> To quote our young friends, Sparkles, that majorly sux
[18:07] <Soraya> history?
[18:07] <@Wrengl> sigh about parents
[18:07] <Sparkles> I teach Social Studies to 7th graders at Hixson Middle School in Webster Groves, MO.
[18:07] <@KK> Cool, Devin.  And your wife is making her a stole, is she not?
[18:07] <@Wrengl> they seem to think children should not spend much time studying after school!
[18:07] <Soraya> how odd
[18:07] * Devin is having to suppress his inner ritualist from getting all swoony at the thought of a properly-rehearsed High Church liturgy in a cathedral.
[18:07] <Jestyna> people's priorities are amazing... just when you start to gain hope for mankind...
[18:07] <Olympia> Feh! Homework builds character
[18:07] <@Shiral> What do they want taught? The history of Hockey?
[18:08] <Devin> KK: yep!
[18:08] <kirienne> no wonder so many children don't know anything
[18:08] <Olympia> We told Devin he cannot SWOON during a ceremony
[18:08] <hygilac> homework also interferes with jobs and dates and basketball
[18:08] <the_Bee> KK: too many characters so you replace one with TWO?
[18:08] <@KK> Devin, do feed your inner ritualist!
[18:08] <Harvey> Don't sell the adults long...many of them don't know anything either.
[18:08] <Devin> Although, I have to confess, during Cathedral Day a couple of years ago, I surreptitiously Called Quarters.
[18:08] <Soraya> I read in a national geographic survey that only 79% of high school students could find the US on a map of the world
[18:08] <Kolfax> homework helps you learn how to learn on your own !
[18:08] <Devin> KK: oh, I do.
[18:08] <Sparkles> Absolutely!  It is very frustrating, because history has such connection with EVERYTHING else.
[18:08] <kirienne> yes, but you'd think they would want their children too
[18:08] <@KK> No, I eliminated one and gave her necessary dialogue to another character that was minor before, but now is more major.
[18:09] <Soraya> consolidating
[18:09] <the_Bee> Ceryss?
[18:09] <Harvey> I think parenting is hard enough without your children knowing more than you do.  So, the ignorant parents have no interest in having well-educated children...they'll just be harder to handle.
[18:09] <Devin> . o O ( The role of Marie will be played by A Previously Minor Character in tonight's reading. )
[18:09] <@Shiral> And simplifying
[18:09] <Olympia> LOL, Devin
[18:09] <@KK> Devin, when you come to a Mass for the Order of St. Michael, you'll see that we call the Quarters every time.  :-)
[18:09] <@Shiral> Snert!
[18:09] <hygilac> i believe that, Soraya
[18:09] <Devin> KK: <dreamy sigh> I am *so* there.
[18:10] <@KK> Cerys with 1 s.
[18:10] <Jestyna> lol Devin
[18:10] <@KK> She is Sir Kenneth Morgan's daughter by his first marriage.
[18:10] <RainTurtle> We call the Quarters sometimes, in regular services at Church....did so this morning, in fact
[18:10] <Sparkles> Devin, I joined the Episcopal church just so that I could have more liturgy.
[18:10] <Devin> I'm just excited at the thought that with a decent job and a flexible work schedule, I might be able to realistically plan going to a major long-distance con in '04.
[18:10] <@KK> Wow, what church, Turtle?
[18:10] <Olympia> NEXT time I come to OSM mass I'm bringing a bigger box of Kleenex! Sedina and I barely made it through on that tiny purse pack!
[18:10] <@Shiral> Cool Devin
[18:10] <JastaElf> Olympia: LOL!
[18:11] <@Shiral> Good plan, Olympia <G>
[18:11] <@Wrengl> lol olympia
[18:11] <Olympia> I'm surprised y'all didn't get flooded out!
[18:11] <@Shiral> My feet WERE a bit wet
[18:11] <JastaElf> We talk occasionally about having a box of them to pass around...
[18:11] <@KK> Jasta, Olympia has inherited at least part of your waterworks.  We used to have major flooding when Jasta was in a ritual.
[18:11] <@Shiral> But then, I was sitting next to you
[18:11] <Sparkles> Hey Katherine, how is Alaric related to Charlan? I've been wondering.
[18:11] <JastaElf> LOL!!
[18:11] <Devin> Sparkles: My wife dragged me to the Episcopal church (she'd just got done reading the Mitford novels), the Holy Spirit clubbed me into staying, and then I discovered that I *like* and *need* liturgy.
[18:11] <Olympia> A BIG box, Sharon!
[18:11] <RainTurtle> Usually we do that in the little United Church of Canada (Lutheran and Methodist, basically), but this morning, it was in an Anglican Church  (I'm organist in two)
[18:11] * @bynw goes to get food that tika brought home
[18:11] <Soraya> who's charlan?
[18:11] <JastaElf> HUGE.  I know all about crying in church.  :-)
[18:11] <@Shiral> Family size
[18:11] <Olympia> Aha! Jasta, I almost flooded out the Gnostic Church in Palo Alto when I was baptized.
[18:11] * bynw is now known as bynw[eating_food]
[18:11] <Sparkles> Java
[18:11] <JastaElf> :-)
[18:12] <Carol> I grew up Episcopal, and my husband grew up Methodist. He doesn't like all the smells and bells, as he calls 'em but I miss 'em.
[18:12] <Sparkles> OOPs.  Javan's squire.
[18:12] <Olympia> "smells 'n bells" I LOVE IT
[18:12] <@Shiral> Hey, I live in the next town south of Palo Alto, Olympia
[18:12] <Devin> Make sure you have *four* boxes -- they make them in all the appropriate colors now. <eg>
[18:12] <@KK> Cool, Turtle.  If you're an organist, you must meet our friend TommyLee.
[18:12] <RainTurtle> The minister is the United church is a psionicist, and everyone in the congregation is aware of it...
[18:12] <RainTurtle> :)
[18:12] <Carol> Factoid:  the Episcopal diocese of SD has the first Native American bishop.
[18:12] <Carol> He performed our marriage
[18:12] <@Shiral> DEVIN LOL, Quarterly Kleenex?
[18:13] <Mistyck> Red, Yellow, Blue, Green?
[18:13] <Olympia> Ooooo Carol!!!!!
[18:13] <@KK> Carol, that's majorly cool!
[18:13] <Sparkles> I love the ritual.  Once I asked a particularly open-minded priest what he felt as he consecrated the host.  He said that it depended, but sometimes quite a lot.
[18:13] <Devin> Carol: oh, way cool. One of our bishops (Sandy Hampton, Assisting Bishop) used to work on a reservation and has this *gorgeous dream-catcher crozier they gave him.
[18:13] <@KK> What a great idea!
[18:13] <Carol> Devin: way cool!
[18:13] * Samuel thinks about the idea of calling the quarters using boxes of kleenex.....
[18:13] <RainTurtle> The Anglican priest claims not to believe in such things, yet....he's well-Shielded, and lead the Calling of the Quarters this morning
[18:13] <Olympia> LOL, Sam!
[18:14] <@Shiral> Have an extra big box in the West for Gabriel, Just in case. <G>
[18:14] <Andy_Hock> LOL, Rain!
[18:14] <Sparkles> Our youth group goes to SD almost every summer to work on their service project.
[18:14] <Olympia> I think I'm going to embroider a big hanky for Sedina...
[18:14] <@KK> You guys should have been lurking on the Church of Ireland list the past week or so, as they've been discussing incense. A couple of weeks before, it was albs vs. surplices.
[18:14] <Olympia> guess I should do one for Jasta too
[18:14] <Devin> Samuel: why not? In the right context, it could work quite well...and the symbolism of picking up and disposing of the Kleenex could be a useful framework for bringing down the Warding after...
[18:14] * Mak  has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:14] <Carol> in the cathedral (where my dad was dean for the last few years of his life), they have a Native American service, Tiosipe Wakan (sp??) where it's a blending of Lakota and Episcopal traditions.
[18:14] <Andy_Hock> wb, Mak.
[18:14] <RainTurtle> wb, Mak
[18:14] <Mistyck> wb Mak
[18:14] <@Shiral> WB, Mak
[18:14] <Olympia> Katherine, what was that amazing incense we used to get at the place in Toluca Lake?
[18:14] <the_Bee> wb Mak
[18:14] <Mak> Hi again
[18:15] <Jestyna> hello Mak
[18:15] <kirienne> wb mak
[18:15] <hygilac> wb mak
[18:15] <Devin> Shiral: Gabriel is my patron, after all. I have to make the nod towards Water *somehow*. :)
[18:15] <@KK> I dunno, but it had lots of frankincense and myrrh.
[18:15] <@Shiral> <G>
[18:15] <Soraya> Another question: When did Corwyn lose its sovreignty?
[18:15] <Debbie-VB> ever seen chocolate incense?
[18:15] <@Shiral> I represented Gabriel at Bynw and Tika's wedding, Devin
[18:15] <Olympia> Yeah and it was in a crystallized form
[18:15] <Kolfax> I always like the greek orthodox and the way they sing their mass, I'm Methodist, but my kids go to Episcopalian School
[18:15] <@KK> Corwyn became a subordinate duchy shortly after the Festillic invasion.
[18:15] <Olympia> Greek Orthodox - eek no sitting down :(
[18:16] <Kolfax> I liked the singing
[18:16] * Devin sighs. Calling Quarters at one's wedding. Hey! 10th anniversary in a hair over 3 years. *Perfect* time to have a little get together...or maybe just delay the shindig a bit until Darkover that year...
[18:16] <Mak> But beautiful services
[18:16] <@Shiral> Need comfortable shoes!
[18:16] <Carol> The Lakota Episcopal service burns both incense and sweetgrass, calls the 4 corners, everyone enters and leaves by walking in a circle sunwise around a huge drum and altar set up.  It's wonderful!  Hymns sung in Lakota... everything
[18:16] <@KK> Only the old and infirm are allowed to sit.
[18:16] <hygilac> chocolate icense?  that has to be illegal
[18:16] <Olympia> what is sweetgrass?
[18:16] <hygilac> or at least immoral
[18:16] <kirienne> I like my church and my pastor, but wish the Lutheran church had rituals
[18:16] <Olympia> I know what sweet tea is :)
[18:16] <the_Bee> but Mooryn was a sovereign principality at Javan's or Rhysem's ordination?
[18:16] <Devin> Carol: OH COOL. I have been looking for something like that! Can you by any chance get me a legit copy of the liturgy for that???
[18:17] * bynw[eating_food] is now known as bynw
[18:17] <RainTurtle> wb
[18:17] <@KK> ? Bee?
[18:17] <Carol> sweetgrass.... um.... a wonderfully fragrant prairie grass that is burnt at Lakota ceremonies
[18:17] <Samuel> sweetgrass is literally a grass that has a nice smell when burned.
[18:17] <Olympia> where can we get it Carol?
[18:17] <@Shiral> Coronation rather than ordination, perhaps
[18:17] <Carol> don't know the actual biological name... I can get some sweetgrass for ya easily
[18:17] <@Shiral> perhaps
[18:17] <Majorsprop> Lutheran church does if you follow the old hymnal
[18:17] <Jestyna> Sweetgrass is pretty much what it sounds like, used for smudges all over North America
[18:17] <Devin> Carol: I belong to an Order here in the PacNW (Order of St. Chiros) and our chaplain is NA, and she'd *groove* on that. I've been trying to convince them to do something other than BCP services at cons for *ages*.
[18:17] <Carol> and I'll try to get a copy of the liturgy.... I'll ask Fr. Martin Brokenleg, one of my dad's best buddies, and one of the Lakota priests
[18:17] * RainTurtle Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[18:17] <kirienne> we rarely have any occasions that we use rituals
[18:17] <@KK> Isn't there a lot of sage in what they use to smudge?
[18:18] <Debbie-VB> I thought smudging was traditionally done with sage
[18:18] <kirienne> it's a verra small congregation too
[18:18] <the_Bee> KK: trying to remember: Mooryn sent an ambassador to the coronation of one of Cinhil's sons
[18:18] <Olympia> Sage is for cleansing, I know that.
[18:18] <Jestyna> KK: depends on the purpose of the smudge
[18:18] <Carol> sweetgrass:  it's a sage type, I think, but sage is different.
[18:18] <@KK> Doh!  Devin, I forgot that you were wtih St. Chieros.
[18:18] <Ghostgames> Pardon my ignorance, but what does "smudge" mean in this context?
[18:18] <Devin> Carol: Shall I PM you my email?
[18:18] * @RainbowDragon is allergic to Sage
[18:18] <Carol> There's a Native store near here, I'll check on some
[18:18] <Jestyna> I don't know a whole lot about smudges, other than a friend told me I should do one to cleanse the energy in my house the other day
[18:19] <Carol> yes!!
[18:19] <Carol> sorry... yes, Devin
[18:19] <Sparkles> My priest used sage in my house blessing
[18:19] <Devin> KK: hee! Well, gee, you only have 5,000 fans to remember personal details for, several projects to oversee, books to right, and Guilder to frame for it.
[18:19] <Debbie-VB> smudging is a RITUAL USING SMOKE
[18:19] * HoodedOne  has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:19] <Jestyna> A smudge is a bundle of herbs that you burn, you pass your hands through the smoke and then over whatever needs cleansing
[18:19] <@KK> You burn herbs and use the smoke to cense things, to purify them.  That's smudging, so far as I know.
[18:19] <HoodedOne> omg, I actually remember to come and chat
[18:19] <Olympia> Uh oh.. hello, Hooded One...
[18:19] <the_Bee> Hi GHO!
[18:19] <@Shiral> Hi Hooded One
[18:19] <Soraya> g'night all, must relinquish computer...
[18:19] <HoodedOne> And I've come in at a good time, yay
[18:19] <@KK> Hoodie!  We haven't seen you in ages!
[18:19] <kirienne> hi hooded one
[18:19] * Soraya  Quit (QUIT: Leaving)
[18:19] <Debbie-VB> Hoodie! Long time no see
[18:19] <@Shiral> Night, Soraya
[18:19] <@Shiral> oops
[18:20] <hygilac> Hi Hood!
[18:20] <Mak> Hi Hood!
[18:20] <Mistyck> Hi Hood
[18:20] <Kolfax> hello O'Hooded One
[18:20] <JastaElf> Hi hood!!
[18:20] <HoodedOne> I've been on a big IRC kick recently anyway.... and I realized I hadn't been here in way too long
[18:20] <Mistyck> welcome back then!
[18:20] <Temprus> Greetings HoodedOne
[18:21] <@KK> Well, I hafta tell you about what I'm doing next weekend; won't be here that night.
[18:21] <Sparkles> Whatcha doin?
[18:22] <@Shiral> What's happening next weekend?
[18:22] <Jestyna> Something exciting I hope?
[18:22] * Debbie-VB sits back to hear Katherine's news
[18:22] <Mistyck> must be neat stuff
[18:22] <@Shiral> Something positive
[18:22] <Kolfax> all ears
[18:22] <Devin> . o O ( Better than *us*? <sniffle> )
[18:22] <@KK> I'm going to Brussels for an ordination--and I get to be a lector, too.  The service will be in--are you ready for this--Flemish.  But my reading is in English, thank God.
[18:22] * hygilac listens
[18:22] <Mistyck> ooh...neat
[18:22] <Mak> Sounds like fun!
[18:22] <Debbie-VB> Kewl Katherine
[18:22] <@Shiral> Woo hoo! Neat, katherine
[18:22] <Olympia> Very very cool!
[18:22] <Sparkles> Very cool.
[18:22] <the_Bee> very impressive
[18:22] <kirienne> Cool Katherine
[18:22] <Devin> Oh, okay, that's allowed. Ritual! Liturgy! Dramatic reading of Scripture!
[18:22] <Jestyna> WOW! Do you speak Flemish?
[18:22] <Ghostgames> Brussels! very nice.
[18:22] <Kolfax> sound to be interesting
[18:22] <HoodedOne> Wow, I don't even know what Flemish is.  >_>
[18:23] <@Shiral> I'm glad your reading will be in English, as it might be hard to learn enough Flemish in time <G>
[18:23] <HoodedOne> though I know I've heard of it
[18:23] <Jestyna> How long will you be gone? You must be excited!
[18:23] <Kolfax> I know not what Flemish is either
[18:23] <JastaElf> I can braid a Flemish bowstrong....  :-)
[18:23] <@Shiral> For Legolas to use?
[18:23] <@KK> The ordaining bishop is an Old Catholic one, ordaining a guy for the Celtic Christian Church in the USA (because the ordinand is Belgian).
[18:23] <JastaElf> Katherine, is that with Brendan?
[18:23] <JastaElf> Yes.
[18:23] <@Wrengl> leave it to you jasta
[18:23] <HoodedOne> and next week... I will be reveling in the sleep that comes after finishing finals
[18:23] <Debbie-VB> Flemish is the language they speak in flem-land  ;-)
[18:23] * Samuel thinks that Flemish is a way of making a bowstring.
[18:23] <the_Bee> it's a language--one of 2 official languages of Belgium from Flanders
[18:23] <hygilac> I believe Flemish is germanic
[18:23] <@KK> Yes, Brendan's ordination.
[18:23] <@KK> I go on Friday, and will return on Monday.
[18:23] <@Wrengl> verra good hooded one
[18:23] * JastaElf sobs, "wish I could go with you!!!"
[18:24] <Majorsprop> Have to run, my sister and her kids are here and so is the pizza
[18:24] <JastaElf> I adore Brendan....
[18:24] <@KK> Bye, Major.
[18:24] <Majorsprop>  bye Katherine
[18:24] <@Shiral> Night, Majorsprop
[18:24] <JastaElf> bye majors!
[18:24] * Majorsprop  Quit (QUIT: Leaving)
[18:24] <kirienne> by majors
[18:24] <Jestyna> Do you travel like that a lot then KK?
[18:24] * Devin has thought seriously about looking into the Celtic Christian Church (or one of several variants in the Ap.Succ.)]
[18:24] <Kolfax> mmmmm pizza , just had to eat my own cooking
[18:24] <@KK> I also get to actually vest him--don't need to speak Flemish to do that.
[18:24] <JastaElf> Oh COOL....
[18:24] <@Shiral> Very cool
[18:25] <Mistyck> cool, KK
[18:25] <Devin> KK: forgive me for not remembering, are you actually ordained yourself?
[18:25] * JastaElf remembers my ordination mistily....
[18:25] <@KK> Yep.
[18:25] <@Shiral> No, buttons and laces need no language <G>
[18:25] <JastaElf> <snicker>
[18:25] <Jestyna> Good thing then! LOL... I'm guessing Brendan doesn't speak it either?
[18:25] <hygilac> Hood:  are you a senior now?
[18:25] <@KK> No buttons and laces.
[18:25] <Sparkles> oooo - I like vesting.  I got to help my priest once, and was very surprised by how moved I was
[18:25] <JastaElf> No, but many LAYERS....
[18:25] <the_Bee> Brendan:  Alaric's stepson is a priest?
[18:25] <Kelos_al-Hazar> KK: If you don't understand Flemish, how are you going to know your cue? :)
[18:25] <kirienne> I've visited a Celtic Christain web site, liked what I saw. I don't think we have any of those churches here where I am
[18:25] * JastaElf *likes* ordinations.  :-)
[18:25] <@RainbowDragon> Who is Brendan?
[18:25] <@KK> Brendan--the Belgian one--speaks about 5 languages fluently.
[18:26] * Olympia likes all religious ceremonies!
[18:26] <@Shiral> Why I had NO idea, Jasta <G>
[18:26] <Debbie-VB> well, I'm satisfied with my new church
[18:26] * Kelos_al-Hazar knows there isn't one in the area he lives in...
[18:26] <Jestyna> Impressive
[18:26] <@KK> It's very small, Kirienne--one of the independents.
[18:26] <JastaElf> Brother Brendan, a delightful Celtic Catholic guy.
[18:26] <Carol> My dad was a priest... I still have his grave-cloak... the cloak he wore over his vestments to graveside services.
[18:26] * Devin has seen some *gorgeous* fabric to make vestments out of, if by some weird chance he were to ever become a bishop.
[18:26] <Samuel> Brendan sounds like a European Tommy Lee.
[18:26] <JastaElf> He is in many ways.  LOL!
[18:26] <the_Bee> has Celtic Christian Church been around continuously since medieval times?
[18:26] * JastaElf waggles hand yes/no...
[18:27] <@KK> Sam, they'd get along famously.
[18:27] <JastaElf> They're an independant Catholic church based on Celtic spirituality
[18:27] * Jestyna frowns as she notices the time...
[18:27] <@KK> This particular church hasn't, but Celtic Christianity certainly has.
[18:27] * Debbie-VB has never heard of the Celtic catholic church until she began hanging around this chat
[18:27] <@Shiral> Me too, Debbie
[18:27] <Sparkles> Isn't it an attempt to carry on with the development of the Celtic Church when the barbarian hordes kept them seperated from Rome?
[18:27] <kirienne> I really liked the site I visited on the web, I was raised Roman Catholic
[18:27] * Mistyck hadn't either Debbie
[18:27] * @Shiral had a very secular upbringing
[18:27] * Devin has this fabric bookmarked as "Fabric to Die For:" -
http://www.equilter.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=5104&s
[18:27] <Jestyna> That's my allotted time. Have a fabulous trip KK and I'll be seeing you all in a few weeks then! Take care everyone!
[18:28] <Olympia> Bye Jestyna
[18:28] <@Shiral> Bye, Jestyna
[18:28] * JastaElf grew up a Baptist but got over it.
[18:28] <kirienne> but didn't feel I belonged there once I really contemplated things
[18:28] <@KK> Nighters, Jestyna.
[18:28] <JastaElf> Bye Jestyna
[18:28] * Jestyna  Quit (QUIT: )
[18:28] <Carol> Devin:  ooh.... pretty fabric!
[18:28] <@Shiral> You're a recovering Baptist, jasta
[18:28] <hygilac> yes jestyna
[18:28] <Sparkles> Sparkles also grew up baptist and ran screaming out the door.
[18:28] <Devin> JastaElf: me too!
[18:28] <Mak> Lovely fabric, Devin!
[18:28] <@KK> Good for you, Sparkles.
[18:28] * Debbie-VB grew up RC, but abandoned it for the anglican(episcopalian) church
[18:28] <JastaElf> :-)
[18:28] <@KK> My father and stepmother are Baptists.
[18:28] <Sparkles> I need ritual
[18:28] <JastaElf> me too
[18:29] <@KK> They don't know where I've wandered.
[18:29] <Temprus> my church upbringing is like my gene pool, a mutt :)
[18:29] <Mistyck> heehee, KK
[18:29] <Olympia> I'm sort of a - Jewish, pagan, gnostic wandering around a lot spiritually - person
[18:29] <@Shiral> To a congenial harbor, obviously, Katherine
[18:29] <Carol> KK:  you're ordained in the Anglican church or the Celtic church?
[18:29] <Andy_Hock> Lol, Temp.
[18:29] <Devin> JastaElf: Conservative Baptist, Nazarene, then Foursquare -- then "comparitive religion" in college, 6 months as LDS, non-denom, then Episcopal.
[18:29] <Olympia> My friends always say "So, Nancy, what religion are you THIS week?"
[18:29] <JastaElf> Devin: WOW!!
[18:29] <@KK> Old Catholic--which has intercommunion with the Episcopal Church.
[18:29] * Debbie-VB giggles @ nancy
[18:29] <Ghostgames> Become a Unitarian, it covers them all. :-)
[18:29] <Sparkles> My grandpa died right before All Saints, and I didn't feel any closure at all until the All Saint's service.  Then I was able to let go.
[18:30] <Mak> I grew up RC, wandered around a bit, and came back again a number of years ago
[18:30] <Carol> KK:  cool!!
[18:30] <Devin> Ghostgames: Or B'hai.
[18:30] <@Shiral> What do you get when you cross a Unitarian with a Jehovah's Witness?
[18:30] * the_Bee would like to be Wiccan but lacks stong conviction
[18:30] <JastaElf> Born Episcopal, family backslid, baptized by immersion as Northern Baptist, got married, became Episcopal, ordained Indep. Cath.
[18:30] <Debbie-VB> What, shiral?
[18:30] <Carol> Nancy:  Some of my pagan friends call me an Episcopagan because I like their rituals that have lots of smells and bells
[18:30] <HoodedOne> I've heard that one... I think it's something about knocking on their own door
[18:30] <@Shiral> Someone who wanders around knocking on doors for no particular reason
[18:30] <Devin> KK: oh, yes, one other fun bit of news -- Alaric (4yo) 'geisted last night. <sigh>
[18:30] <JastaElf> LOL!
[18:30] <Olympia> LOL Shiral
[18:30] <@KK> LOL, Shiral!
[18:30] <Debbie-VB> LOL
[18:30] <Kolfax> LOL
[18:31] <Carol> sorry... 'geisted?
[18:31] <Mistyck> PK/TK
[18:31] <kirienne> LOL Shiral
[18:31] <JastaElf> saw a ghost?
[18:31] <@Shiral> The poor unsuspecting person answers the door only to be asked  "I don't know -- do YOU??"
[18:31] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Poltergeist...
[18:31] <Devin> Carol: "poltergeisted" -- ie, apported objects. Was extremely mad.
[18:31] <@KK> He moved things?
[18:31] <Carol> WOW
[18:31] <Mistyck> no...he was able to use tele/psycho kinesis
[18:31] <JastaElf> oh dear...
[18:31] <Devin> KK: Flung a Lego clear across the room.
[18:32] <Carol> I repeat:  WOW
[18:32] <@KK> Are you sure he didn't use his hands or other appendage?
[18:32] <Devin> KK: Wasn't touching it, of course, and both my daughter and I were clearly positioned to see.
[18:32] <Devin> KK: besides, it had some *velocity* when it hit the wall -- bounced back a good three feet to land back on the table it started from.
[18:32] <@KK> Hmmm.  I hope you can find someone to teach him properly how to control that.
[18:32] <Debbie-VB> Interesting.  How do you deal with a child with an ability like that?
[18:33] <Devin> Yeah, that's my worry at this point. I've done uncontrolled PK precisely once in my life.
[18:33] <Devin> So I have no clue how to train him on that. I've been asking around here for help. :)
[18:33] <Sparkles> I would think a lot of personal responsibility training.
[18:33] <@KK> Could it just have snapped out there when it was trying to force it into position?  I've done legos.  I know how they can move.
[18:33] <Devin> No, he was in the middle of getting in trouble for hitting his sister, and the Legos were all on the table at least 1 foot away.
[18:34] <Devin> He wasn't actually handling the Legos at the time. In fact, the Lego that got moved was one I'd had to take out of his hand -- single piece, not connected.
[18:34] <@KK> So it was coupled with sharp emotion.  Get a handle on that, Devin.
[18:34] <Devin> Yeah, that's what I figured.
[18:34] <Carol> hate to hear about 'geisting and run, but I've gotta go.
[18:34] <@Shiral> Night, Carol
[18:34] <Mistyck> nite Carol
[18:34] * Carol waves by
[18:34] <Sparkles> Bye Carol
[18:34] <Mak> Bye Carol
[18:34] <Olympia> Bye Crol
[18:34] <Devin> Carol: Bye!
[18:34] <Debbie-VB> Nighters carol
[18:34] <Ghostgames> night, Carol!
[18:34] <@KK> Nighters, Carol.
[18:34] <Kolfax> bye Carol
[18:34] <the_Bee> bye carol
[18:34] <kirienne> bye Carol
[18:35] <hygilac> bye Carol
[18:35] * Carol  Quit (QUIT:  grabs closest portal and pops)
[18:35] <@Shiral> Yes, get a handle on it before he starts throwing bigger things than legos
[18:35] <Mistyck> KK:  any word about the sales figures for DT and TT?
[18:35] <hygilac> you do not want a little Peeves in your house
[18:35] <Kolfax> well looks like I'm being page for bed time stories, wave all
[18:35] <Mistyck> nite Kolfax
[18:35] * Kolfax  Quit (QUIT: )
[18:36] <@Shiral> Night Kolfax
[18:36] <Sparkles> Bye Kolfax
[18:36] <@Shiral> oops
[18:36] <JastaElf> night Kolfax
[18:36] <Devin> Linda: no, no I don't.
[18:36] <kirienne> bye kolfax
[18:36] <Debbie-VB> Hug your kids for me kolfax
[18:36] <hygilac> night Kolfax
[18:36] <@Shiral> Kolfax hath departed
[18:36] <@KK> No, Mistyck.
[18:36] <Kelos_al-Hazar> I'll probably add one to each of those figures once my friend pays back the $70 she borrowed Friday.
[18:36] <Sparkles> KK - we were moving so fast before I don't know if you saw my question.  How are Sir Charlan and Alaric related?
[18:36] <Devin> Linda: I just shared your merasha comment with Steph, and she's dying now. :)
[18:37] <@KK> I don't think they're related, Sparkles.
[18:37] <Sparkles> Oh - I was hoping since they are both Morgans ...
[18:37] <Mistyck> aww, KK...Charlan could be a brother to the Morgan that is Alaric's ancestor
[18:37] <@KK> I'll have to check it further.  I don't remember building in a relationship there, but there could be.
[18:38] <@KK> I spent some of my energy this week realizing how closely Sir Kenneth Morgan is related to the McLains.
[18:38] <Mistyck> ooh..cool!
[18:38] <Devin> Ghostgames: so what did you think about the poster-sized family charts?
[18:38] <the_Bee> both from same part of 11 kingdoms, IIRC
[18:38] <Sparkles> It would be nice if Javan's loyal knight could be a relative of Kelson's loyal knight
[18:38] <@Shiral> Well, there ARE 200 years between them <G>
[18:38] <kirienne> cool, I'm looking forward to finding out that part
[18:38] * JastaElf perks up at mention of McLains
[18:38] <@Shiral> Morgans have an affinity for Haldanes, and vice versa
[18:38] <Ghostgames> Not sure they'd be profitable....
[18:38] * HoodedOne keeps forgetting to read DT
[18:38] <@KK> Jared's great-grandmother was Kenneth's great aunt.  (I think I've got that right.)
[18:39] <Devin> Ghostgames: bah! Quit being practical!
[18:39] <Debbie-VB> I'm totally looking forward to the whole bood kirienne
[18:39] <Olympia> Oi, Jasta and the McLains
[18:39] <JastaElf> LOL!
[18:39] <@Shiral> Duncan McLain
[18:39] <JastaElf> Shiral, I don't have my aliases tonight.  :-(
[18:39] <Sparkles> I would love a poster family tree.  I need to see it all at once.
[18:39] <Mistyck> Dhugal MacArdry McLain
[18:39] <kirienne> ?me can hardly wait to read all the cool stuff in Childe Morgan books :-)
[18:39] <@Shiral> I always thought making Charlan a Morgan was a deliberate tie to Alaric Morgan
[18:39] <the_Bee> and how does the cousin who married Annalind of Meara fit in?
[18:39] <@KK> Guys, I've got to go.  I have to get up early in the AM to take Matilda to the vet.  She gets spayed tomorrow.
[18:39] <Devin> Ghostgames: and you could make them *very* profitable. Just sell a copy to every geneology center. :)
[18:39] <kirienne> well, I sure can't type today
[18:40] <JastaElf> But I am in the middle of a story about Duncan and Jared....  :-)
[18:40] <@Shiral> Night Katherine
[18:40] <Devin> KK: thanks for your time, as usual.
[18:40] <@bynw> have a good night Katherine!
[18:40] <@Shiral> Sleep well and write well
[18:40] <JastaElf> Oh dear, poor Matilda....
[18:40] <Sparkles> Night Katherine
[18:40] <Ghostgames> Good night, Katherine! And good luck, Matilda! Recover quickly! :-)
[18:40] <Mistyck> nighters Katherine
[18:40] <Olympia> Good night, Katherine and love to Miss Scrappy!
[18:40] <Mistyck> sweet Dreams
[18:40] <@Shiral> And give Matilda a cuddle
[18:40] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Sleep well, Lady Katherine.
[18:40] <Mak> Nite KK
