Session Start: Sun Apr 29 14:16:14 2001
[14:16] *** Now talking in #Deryni_Destinations
[14:16] *** Topic is 'Official Katherine Kurtz Chatroom '
[14:16] *** Set by DeryniBot on Wed Apr 25 10:01:31
[14:16] -DeryniBot- Welcome to Camber's Fireside chats with Katherine Kurtz

[16:57] *** KK has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:57] *** ChanServ sets mode: +o KK
[16:58] <KK> Hello, all!  Sorry I'm late.
[16:58] <KK> Hi, Ann.
[16:59] <KK> Yep, it's nearly 11 PM.
[16:59] <Mike_in_MO> Hi Katherine!  First question........ Do you ever go by
Kathy or Kate or anything?
[16:59] <KK> Just Katherine--or KK, on screen.
[16:59] <Shiral> Second question, Would an aspiring Deryni Nun have been
tested with Merasha the way priests were?
[16:59] <KK> Where is Wrengl, and how is Thumper tonight?
[17:00] <KK> No, Deryni nuns wouldn't have been tested.  It's an ordination
thing.
[17:01] <KK> I think the nickname thing is the forward slash, then nick,
then what the nickname is.
[17:02] <Kiri`> it's this "/nick Wrengl1
[17:02] <KK> Where's Bynw when we need him?
[17:03] <Jessie> Bynw is doing laundry
[17:03] <KK> Ah, laundry.  Reminds me I have stuff to move from washer to
dryer.  Be right back.
[17:04] <Shiral> So....If Deryni nuns aren't tested, then there COULD be a
secret Deryni sisterhood somewhere.....Intriguing!
[17:05] <KK> I'm back.
[17:06] <KK> Kelos should have a @, then, so he can boot out rude folk, like
last week.
[17:07] <KK> My IRC has told me for the past two weeks that it wants me to
register, but I thought Bynw had already done that.  Never got that screen
before.
[17:07] <Kelos_al-Hazar> KK: You're probably seeing a shareware registration
screen for the program itself...
[17:07] <Jessie> also -- when they tore down Caerrorie -- did they also
destroy the secondary portal
[17:08] <KK> Dunno, Jessie
[17:08] <Kelos_al-Hazar> KK: Your nick is protected from unauthorized use...
[17:09] <KK> I'll sort out anything like that when I'm in California with
Carolyn.
[17:09] <Golux> WHEN?!?!
[17:09] <Mike_in_MO> Katherine, a few days back on the NG there was a
question...... Is blocking ability only attainable by a few or can anyone
with the proper training do it? It is one of the abilities listed in Cambers
scrolls.
[17:09] <great_hooded_one> btw, kiri, how far are you in those books i lent
you?
[17:09] <KK> Next month, Golux--May 16-21 in SF.
[17:10] <KK> Mike, I think only Healers can block.  At least that's all
we've seen so far.
[17:10] <Unicorn636> Hi Katherine!
[17:10] <KK> How's your mom today?
[17:11] <Unicorn636> Better thanks!  She just walked up and down the hall
three times with the quad cane and holding my arm, so that's an improvement,
[17:11] <Mike_in_MO> Ok. So not all the abilities in the scrolls are
possible for all Deryni then, right?
[17:11] <Unicorn636> Plus we did a bath and shampoo in like 35 minutes which
is record time.
[17:11] <KK> Correct, Mike.
[17:12] <Mike_in_MO> Thanx, KK  *kiss on cheek*
[17:12] <Kiri`> KK are you going to visit with your mom in May?
[17:12] <KK> Yes, I'll be at my mom's for about a week.
[17:12] <Kiri`> oh good.. you'll have to pop by.. i'm just down the street =)
[17:13] <KK> Will be able to see Melissa and Carolyn and maybe Susan, if she
can get away (which now sounds hopeful), and maybe any of the rest of you
who are in the Bay area.  We could maybe organize something.
[17:13] <Unicorn636> I'm really hoping I can come to SF that weekend.  The
18th right?
[17:14] <Unicorn636> It depends on what the doctors say this week about mom,
but things look good.
[17:14] <KK> Yes, weekend of 18th.
[17:14] * Jessie asks -- just wave at Missouri when you fly over please
[17:14] <KK> I'll wave.  :-)
[17:14] <Mike_in_MO> Jessie and I will both be waving back!
[17:15] <KK> Well, I'm in NY the weekend before.
[17:16] <Unicorn636> I don't expect to get any bargains on this trip because
I'll probably be buying the plane ticket last minute.  I think you have to
buy at least 3 weeks in advance to get advance order deals that I usually
get.
[17:16] <KK> Business and pleasure.  Will be meeting with Nancy Berman in
LA, who's editing Ann's Deryni role-playing books; and meeting with Team
Deryni in SF--so the West Coast venture is a tax write-down!  :-)
[17:17] <KK> I wonder why Pat can't get in?
[17:18] <KK> We didn't kick her, did we?
[17:18] <Kiri`> we were tryin to kill her ghost..
[17:18] <KK> Golus and Kiri', who are you?  Don't recognize your screen
names.
[17:18] <Shiral> Heck, go for broke Susan, Fly first class!
[17:19] <Kiri`> Kiri - is Kiri  (Tania) we met in Berkeley last year.. i
live just down th street from you mom =)
[17:19] <Golux> Golux is Eileen in SF
[17:19] <Golux> Kiri is Tania in SF
[17:19] <KK> OK!  Cool.
[17:19] <KK> This sounds like the  makings of a party in SF!
[17:19] <Golux> and great hooded one is my son, Raymond, who should be
working on a term paper!
[17:20] <Kiri`> speaking of Deryni Scrolls.. with Katherine's kind
permission I've registered a domain and provided my programmer can yank it
tgether the new domain/site will be running by mid-may =)
[17:20] <KK> You sound like a neat offspring, great hooded one.  :-)
[17:21] <KK> The system doesn't like several of you tonight.
[17:21] <the_Bee> Are you working today, Shiral?
[17:22] <KK> Don't we have a portal through the website?
[17:22] <Unicorn636> We have a Portal but Ircle works better, at least for
me.  Thanks to Chris, I know how to use Ircle.
[17:22] <KK> Irene.  Irene.  My middle name.
[17:23] <KK> Irene, good night....
[17:23] <Jessie> how is Childe Morgan coming along this week Katherine
[17:23] <Jessie> and any news on the release date for the Anthology
[17:23] <KK> Not much progress.  Scott and I were in Scotland for 3 days.
And tonight we were at a meeting for an international youth group we're
trying to help.  That's why I was late.
[17:23] <KK> Two cats, two dogs.
[17:24] <Unicorn636> If Carolyn's coming, we'll have plenty of food! <BG>
She knows how to throw a party!
[17:24] <Golux> What are their names?
[17:24] <Jackm_> Do you still have horses?
[17:25] <KK> Cats are Edgar, a black & white tuxedo cat, and Jessica, aka
Jessie (named while I was reading House Atriedes), a mostly black
adolescent with faint rusty smears.
[17:25] <KK> Dogs are Irish Bassadors: basset/Labrador crosses, tan one is
Oswald; black one is Scrappy: littermates.
[17:26] <KK> We didn't name Scrappy.  She's Oswald's sister, and was
originally owned by the riding school next door, but she was spending all
her time with her brother, so we adopted her.
[17:27] <Jackm_> KK: Do you still have horses?
[17:27] <KK> We would've given her a more elegant name, but by then she knew
who she was, so it was too late to change it.
[17:28] <KK> No horses anymore.  We sold them about a year before we moved
to Ireland.  I think we'd finished that phase.
[17:28] <KK> Ann has lovely horses!
[17:29] <Mike_in_MO> Back on the Deryni topic....... someone made an
assumption the other day (that makes perfect sense, mind you) that before
portals came to be, that a select few could teleport from place to place but
it took tons of energy and concentration, so portals were created to
stabilize and simplify the process...... any comments, KK?
[17:29] <ADupuis> (and Katherine's welcome to ride the young one if she ever
visits. He's getting to be a "real" horse now! In another year he'll be
ready for even beginners to ride now and then.)
[17:29] <Unicorn636> Mayb the Airsid could teleport?
[17:30] <KK> Mike, that would make good sense.  Having actual established
portals would concentrate the focus on one place.  But we know that some
Deryni apparently can teleport to places where there aren't portals--like on
sandy beaches.  :-)
[17:30] <Mike_in_MO> I thought so!  YAY!
[17:31] <Unicorn636> And like our friend Stefan Coram who left no footprints
either!
[17:31] <majorsprop> That one has always mystified me Will we ever find out
who that was?
[17:31] <Unicorn636> Ooh...another Stefan Coram enthusiast! <G>  I'm not
alone anymore.
[17:32] <KK> We also know that the original CC got into the space where they
established their headquaarters--apparently by following written clues,
though this must mean that there was a portal there.  But no one had been
there before to learn the coordinates in the usual manner.
[17:32] <Shiral> I knew Stefan Coram would show up when Susan rejoined us!
[17:32] <KK> Yay, Susan and Mike!
[17:32] <Unicorn636> Only because the topic warranted mentioning him. <G>
[17:33] <majorsprop> So is Coram the one on the beach or not?
[17:33] <Unicorn636> Maybe the original CC had a Secret Circle/Airsid
connection to help them even though they didn't know it.
[17:33] <KK> The one on the beach....good question.
[17:33] <Unicorn636> Coram can't be the one on the beach, he's dead by then.
[17:33] <KK> I thought he was dead, too.
[17:34] <Golux> Or is he like Camber?
[17:34] <KK> No, there's only one Camber.
[17:34] <Unicorn636> Isn't Coram really dead?   He took poison though and we
saw him die, so I think he must be really dead.
[17:34] <KK> You think it's been a while for <you>?  It's been a while since
I <wrote> the stuff!
[17:35] <the_Bee> Are we sure it was a physical person?
[17:35] <KK> Well, we never did specify what happened to the bodies.  Maybe
Coran didn't really die.  Such fake deaths have been claimed about
others--like JC Himself.
[17:36] <KK> Jorian is only one of many de Courcys.  But his "outing" does
mean that his family had to go underground after he was discovered.  They
can't hang out at court anymore.
[17:37] <KK> I didn't say that Coram had been revived; only that similar has
been claimed of others before him.
[17:37] <Unicorn636> I thought there must be other de Courcy's!  Does Michon
have any descendants who are alive in Kelson's time?
[17:38] <Unicorn636> For that matter, did Coram leave any descendants?
Maybe it was Coram's son on the beach.
[17:38] <KK> Jorian's father had other sons (Jorian was a younger, as
someone pointed out), and Michon was Jorian's ... uncle or great uncle.  I
don't have the genealogy in front of me right now.
[17:39] <KK> I haven't looked at Coram's immediate line; but his father was
active in the generation before.
[17:40] <Unicorn636> Ooh...intriguing!   Codex is vague on Coram's parents,
too.
[17:40] <KK> Mike, I haven't figured out how to retrieve what I appear to
have lost, but I have a feeling it's still lurking in there somewhere.  I do
have hard copy for everything I'd put in.
[17:40] <DianeK> Is that Family Tree Maker?
[17:40] <KK> Yes, FTM.
[17:41] <Jessie> by Borderbund?
[17:41] <KK> Yes.
[17:41] <KK> I <think> it's Borderbund.
[17:42] <majorsprop> Are we going to hear anymore about Dhugal or his
mother?
[17:42] <DianeK> Broderbund...
[17:42] <KK> Yes, it's Borderbund.  I just looked at the spine of the book.
[17:42] <Shiral> I'd love to hear more about Maryse...<G>
[17:42] <KK> May hear a <bit> more about his mother, when we get to that
part of Morgan's and Duncan's story--but that's probably book 3 of Childe
Morgan.
[17:43] <Jessie> will 948 and/or the Orin/Jodotha books follow Childe
Morgan?
[17:43] <Unicorn636> Ooh...Childe Morgan sounds fascinating!
[17:43] <KK> We know that Duncan had no idea of Dhugal's existence, so there
are limits to what I can do with Duncan and Maryse.
[17:43] <Shiral> Do you have your entire life planned yet? <G>
[17:43] <KK> Jessie, probably yes.  Shiral, probably not.
[17:43] <majorsprop> True but a short story about her would be nice
[17:44] * Kiri` would love to have somethin aboutth airsid *hopeful grin*
[17:44] <Golux> I have been waiting for Childe Morgan since I first got
Flashing Swords #4.
[17:44] <Kiri`> can you tell us anything?
[17:44] <KK> Is Pat still trying to get in, Kelos?
[17:44] <Kiri`> KK - we're working on that.
[17:44] <Jessie> lol Shiral
[17:45] <KK> Golux, the story in FS #4 will probably hit in the second
Childe Morgan book.
[17:45] <Jessie> any news yet from the publisher regarding the release date
of the anthology -- if you've indicated already -- just ignore this -- I
have been in and out talking with wrengl
[17:46] <Shiral> I think Jessie's even more eager for the Fanthology than I
am!
[17:46] <KK> No, my Ace editor is in CA for the Nebulas last night and won't
be back in the office until Wednesday.  I don't even know if she liked it
yet.
[17:46] <Jackm_> Off topic comment: If anyone has a chance to see the group
Cherish The Ladies (wonderful all female Irish music group from NY) GO!!
They're on tour right now.
[17:46] <KK> Voal or instrumental or both?
[17:47] <KK> Er, vocal.
[17:47] <Jackm_> Both.  They're playing HQ in Dublin on 6/28
[17:47] <KK> Traditional music?
[17:48] <Jackm_> All are from Irish families, and all learned their music
from their fathers.  Generally traditional, with a few Traditional-sounding
modern pieces
[17:48] <KK> Interesting.  I'll watch for them.
[17:49] <Jackm_> And they're just so much fun to watch on the stage -- they
were having such a blast up there, that between that and the music the
energy in the room was fantastic
[17:49] <Jessie> any word on how the RPG is coming?
[17:49] <Jessie> and the map
[17:49] <KK> Ask Ann.  :-)
[17:49] <Jessie> Ann:  any word on how the RPG is coming and how the map is
coming?
[17:51] <KK> I think she's writing a reply.  And I probably owe her some
information.
[17:51] <Shiral> Geez,  I hope your editor will like it.....<Nervous G>
[17:52] <Jackm_> ADupuis: WOW!
[17:53] <ADupuis> Jessie: Jennifer's hard at work on the first draft of The
Deryni Roleplaying Game. We should have files in playtest stage soon. (The
outline is already online for our playtesters to comment on.)
[17:53] <KK> While we're waiting for Ann, I have a request on behalf of Bynw
and Tika.  As some of you know, they're getting married at Darkover, and
they want a Jed-i themed ceremony. So If anyone comes across any Jedi
philosophy or any descriptions of Jedi ceremonial of any kind, could you
please forward same to me so I can cobble something together.
[17:53] <ADupuis> Rob Reginald just signed on to do the text for the Atlas
of the Eleven Kingdoms. He's going to write it as a travelogue from Brother
Theo's point of view, detailing a year of travel to every shrine in the
Eleven Kingdoms....
[17:54] <Unicorn636> Ooh, Ann, that sounds cool!
[17:54] <KK> Yes!  And hello, Bynw.
[17:54] <ADupuis> I'm still in the process of removing other things from my
plate so I can *get* to the maps. (Including the full color poster map of
The Eleven Kingdoms, which I assume is what you mean by "the" map. ;-)
[17:54] <KK> I've told him that I really like the style of William
Dalrymple's travel writing, too, so he's having a look at that.
[17:55] <ADupuis> Yes, I asked Rob to find out which writer it was you liked
as I couldn't remember the name....
[17:55] <KK> Bynw, can you help Wrengl get into the room?
[17:56] <Bynw> I can attempt it
[17:56] <KK> Yes, he and I had a nice chat last week.  I think it's going to
be delightful.
[17:56] <ADupuis> Katherine: re Jedi/The Force, there's a book that was
published back when the first movie came out that's all about the Force and
how it might pertain to "real" life.... It's on my shelves somewhere....
[17:56] <KK> The system needs your magic touch.  Someone else was also
having trouble earlier.
[17:57] <KK> Ah-ha!  That sounds like it might be just the thing.
[17:58] <Unicorn636> LOL Bee!   Why does Rob writing the text for the atlas
postpone Codex 2?  I thought he had C2 almost done already.  Or did I
misread something?
[17:58] <Jessie> that is what he said on the NG
[17:58] * KK brandishing a frozen haddock at the Bee
[17:59] <Jessie> by the way KK -- did anyone tell you what a Codex 1 brought
on ebay last week?
[17:59] <Jessie> over $700+
[17:59] <Unicorn636> Well, you're probably right then.  I haven't been to
the NG in months so I don't know what's been said there.
[17:59] <KK> I think Ann wants the RPG package moving all in a pretty smooth
sequence.
[17:59] <Unicorn636> So will the Atlas come out for Darkover instead of
Codex 2 then?
[18:00] <KK> I heard--close to $800, wasn't it?!
[18:00] <Golux> Someone Else was talking about selling her Codex, too.
[18:00] * Jessie remembers that Codex 2 was scheduled for Darkover -- but
no-one else remembered
[18:00] <DianeK> $779.69!
[18:00] <KK> Do we know who this person is?!
[18:01] <ADupuis> Right now we're shooting for a late October release for
the Atlas of the Eleven Kingdoms. (It'll be tight, as Rob will be submitting
the manuscript in early September.)
[18:01] <KK> Yay, Wrengl!  How's Thumper?
[18:01] <ADupuis> That will actually be the first book we'll print, with the
core Roleplaying Game book to follow in December.
[18:01] <Wrengl> He's snoozing in his crate behind me.
[18:01] <Jessie> so how will you release it ADupuis?  -- in bookstores?
[18:02] <Wrengl> He goes to our regular vet for an evaluation tomorrow
evening.
[18:02] <ADupuis> About Thumper -- is he sick? you mentioned
"evaluation...."
[18:02] <KK> Awwww.  Give Thumper a scritch for me--but don't wake him up to
do it.
[18:02] <ADupuis> Jessie: All the Deryni RPG books (including the Atlas)
will be available in bookstores, through Amazon.com, and in game & hobby
stores.
[18:02] <Unicorn636> Is Thumper sick?  Give him a pat for me.
[18:03] <Wrengl> Ann.  Thumper lost use of his rear legs last Sunday and had
a ruptured disk operated on.  Still can't walk but we may not know for
several weeks yet on the walking.
[18:03] <KK> What's an IRCle?
[18:03] <Bynw> IRCle is a MAC program for IRC like mIRC is a Windows program
[18:03] <KK> Does Thumper have medical insurance, being a show dog and all?
[18:04] <Wrengl> No.  We don't have insureance.  He really isn't a show dog
just a Costumer!  And of course my fur son.  Grommet will be the show dog.
[18:05] <KK> Well, Thumper is a champion in my book!
[18:05] <Wrengl> Well he is the only "Best in Show" Dog his breeder has
bred.  Of course that was at Darkover!
[18:06] <Wrengl> Thumper is seven and a half.
[18:07] <Kiri`> KK - any new tidbits on the Airsid for us?
[18:09] <Unicorn636> How about some tidbits about Childe Morgan?  I heard
something from the last chat about Donal killing a CC member?
[18:09] <KK> Ann, is that Jedi book still available?  If not, could I borrow
your copy?
[18:10] <KK> Yep.  He kills Sief MacAthan in the opening reel.
[18:10] <Jessie> Katherine:  regarding the other deryni child that was
killed that Donal sired -- was that child any relation to Sief MacAthan?
[18:10] <KK> Weel, it's his wife's child.
[18:11] <KK> But the boy gets to live for a few years.  His name is Kensell.
[18:11] <Unicorn636> Ohoh...I had a feeling that might be the case, but I
didn't know it was Sief MacAthan...a descendant of Camber's and Ansel's
right?
[18:11] <KK> Yep.
[18:12] <Kiri`> is Alaric some form of Charlan's nephew?
[18:13] <KK> The mother is Jessamy, daughter of Lewys ap Norfal.
[18:13] <the_Bee> Maybe Sief objected to Donal's trespassing in his
marriage?
[18:13] <Unicorn636> Oh...She's related to Lewys.  Cool!
[18:14] <KK> Stevana de Morgan.  Jessamy ferch Lewys.
[18:15] <KK> It's in my new short story for the anthology--a teaser for the
first Childe Morgan book.
[18:15] <ADupuis> KK: You're welcome to borrow it if I can find it. :-/ My
library recently underwent a reorganization and a quick perusal of the
shelves didn't yield anything....
[18:15] <ADupuis> Not really: it was "The Force of StarWars" or something
like that.
[18:16] <KK> There are a lot of Star Wars spinoff novels out there.  There
might be nuggets about the Jedi buried in most of them.  I read a young Jedi
book at JastaElf's last November.
[18:17] <ADupuis> I know one of the Star Wars authors -- Mike Stackpole --
do you think he might be able to help?
[18:17] <KK> Could be.  You could tell him I'm trying to cobble together a
Jedi wedding ceremony, and see what he suggests.
[18:18] <ADupuis> I'll ask him to email you if he thinks he can help.
[18:18] <KK> OK.  Super!
[18:19] <KK> Ah-ha, Jessie, I was going to ask you about that.  :-)
[18:20] <KK> Which book, Jessie?  The Jedi one??
[18:20] <Jessie> yes -- it is on amazon & I will just send it with the DC
[18:21] <KK> Cool, yes!  I'll send you my mother's address in SF, and you
can send it there, save postage.
[18:22] <KK> Muchas gracias!
[18:22] <KK> You see how much we love you, Bynw?  :-)
[18:22] <Bynw> :-)
[18:23] <KK> LOL  I was just going to say, is this not the Great Hooded One
who should be working on his term paper?
[18:23] <Bynw> I did a bunch of searches myself for starwars sites relating
to jedi weddings/marriages....only came up with a bunch of fan fic for Luke
and Mira's wedding
[18:24] <KK> I think we just need general Jedi philosophy about the Force
and such.  We now know that the ceremony was developed from traditional
ceremonies--which means a variation on Dearly beloved....
[18:24] <Bynw> I can across one Jedi-Wicca tradition site...but it was very
old... I tried to email the author of the site and it bounced back :(
[18:24] *** Unicorn636 is now known as Guest94627
[18:25] <KK> Jedi-Wicca?!  What's Tika's background for all of this?
[18:25] <KK> Religious background, that is.
[18:26] <KK> Golux, what kind of Indian gaming?
[18:26] <KK> Amerind or India Indians?
[18:26] <Bynw> raised catholic but not a practicing catholic... but
otherwise still very much Christian
[18:27] <KK> That makes it easier.  And the Force will work well to marry
both traditions, as it were.
[18:28] <KK> What kinds of games did the American Indians play, great hooded
one?
[18:30] <great_hooded_one> its more about the casino gambling they do now
[18:30] <KK> Ah, reservation revenues!  All becomes clear.
[18:30] <Golux> He is also know as the cameraman.  You should see Melissa
hide from him with the camera!
[18:31] <KK> Shuks.  And here I was all set to ask if the hood refered to
the camera.
[18:32] <ADupuis> Well, it's been fun, but I gotta go. A friend's here with
his tape of Danny Kaye's "Court Jester".... Dinner and a movie!
[18:32] <Jessie> Ann:  what will be the name of the book to look for on
Amazon (i.e. the october release)?
[18:32] <KK> Court Jester--hurrrah!  The pellet with the poison....
[18:34] <ADupuis> "Atlas of the Eleven Kingdoms."
[18:34] <Kiri`> KK - airsid?
[18:35] <KK> Airsid?
[18:35] <Unicorn636> Bye Ann
[18:35] <Kiri`> yes.. was wondering if you had any new tidbits about tham
*grin*
[18:36] <Golux> Yes, Kiri wants to know EVERYTHING about the Airsid.
[18:36] <KK> I'm not worrying about the Airsid right now.  Too busy getting
the front end of this book tweaked, settling on whose POV gets priority,
since Alaric doesn't come on the scene until the very end.
[18:36] <Jessie> we know who the mother was of the other deryni child that
Donal sired
[18:36] <KK> Yes, first book.
[18:37] <Jessie> Jessamy ap Lewys
[18:37] <KK> Shiral, ya had to be there....  :-)
[18:37] <Jessie> KK -- who killed the Kensell?
[18:37] <Jessie> or how did he die?
[18:37] <KK> Haven't gotten there yet.
[18:37] <Unicorn636> Jessamy ap Lewys who is married to a Macathan
descendant who Donal kills.   But we don't know yet who kills Donal and
Jessamy's son Kensell.
[18:38] <Shiral> Never mind, I'll worm it out of you when you come west,
Katherine. <G>
[18:38] <Unicorn636> KK, which countries, other than Torenth were safe for
Deryni during the persecution era...like late 920s?
[18:38] <KK> The death is an accident--or is made to look like an accident.
Just as Sief's death is made to look like a heart attack.
[18:39] <Unicorn636> Does Donal kill Sief the same way Charissa kills Brion
then?
[18:39] <KK> A hooded rat?  Is that anything like a hooded crow?
[18:40] <Bynw> ah another victim of "heart failure"  .. the ultimate cause
of all deaths
[18:40] <Jessie> and is Kensell killed in the same way?
[18:40] <Kiri`> reason for the deaths?
[18:41] <Shiral> An awful lot of bodies falling  here...
[18:41] * Jessie is still wondering why Alaric climbed the tree
[18:41] <KK> No, Kensell's death is made to look like an accident.  Sief's
death is ... a cardiac incident.  (There's a medical term that I can't
remember exactly.)
[18:41] <Shiral> He was looking for Stefan Coram. <G>
[18:41] <Shiral> Infarction?
[18:42] <Unicorn636> Atrial Fibulation or SuperVentricular Tacticardia?
[18:42] <KK> He may have been after a bird's nest or something like that.
Or maybe he was trying to get high to get a better look at something far
away.  I'll figure it out when I get back to that story.
[18:42] <KK> Infarction.  That's it!
[18:43] <KK> Yep, it's nearly 1 AM, and I'll be heading out soon.  But I did
come late.
[18:44] <KK> It's actually on air only--a down jacket--ooh, clotted cream
and jam!  Yum!
[18:45] * Kiri` hands SHIal a plates of ho scones and cream..
[18:45] <KK> Alas, Edgar has come to tell me that it's time to go to
bed--which he does, being a fine and sensible cat.
[18:45] <Kiri`> i've put *super-author wake-up tablets*  in th drink...
[18:46] <Shiral> Toss him a bunch of catnip, Katherine. <G>
[18:46] <emily> Did anyone ask KK about St. Michael yet?
[18:46] <KK> Emily, I'd been asked why Alaric climbed that tree--from which
he fell and broke his arm.
[18:47] <KK> Shoot, Emily.  (No, don't shoot Emily!)
[18:47] <Unicorn636> I still want to know which countries were safe for
Deryni (besides Torenth) in the late 920s?  Bremagne?  Forcinn? Howicce and
Llanedd?
[18:47] <emily> I was wondering how your interest in St Michael began, since
he is in so many of your books
[18:47] <Unicorn636> I think Jesse's father went to the Connait, didn't he?
[18:47] * Kiri` would like to know where Dunluce is geographically that is.
[18:47] <KK> The Forcinn States, for the most part.  All the Torenthi states
[18:48] <Shiral> It's in Carthmoor Kiri, on the southern coast
[18:49] <KK> St.  Michael the Archangel is the patron of knights, as is St.
George.  (St. George might be viewed as the earthly reflection of Michael.)
He seemed a good patron for an order of warrior monks modeled on a cross
between Templars and Jesuits--and Jedi, as someone pointed out last week.
[18:51] <KK> Well done that mom, to give your son such a magnificent patron
saint!
[18:51] <Jessie> KK:  on the maps that are contemplated -- will the reflect
the boundaries of the various areas
[18:51] <Kiri`> is there a modern versionof the name Uriel?  all te other
archangel's names have survived...
[18:51] <KK> Yes.
[18:52] <emily> I didn't know that St. George and St. Michael are linked.
You feature angels alot in your books, which is very interesting.
[18:52] <the_Bee> I guess people don't like to name their kids after the
angel of Death.
[18:52] <Shiral> The cathedral in Rhemuth is St. George's. I'm thinking that
was no accident? <G>
[18:52] <KK> Uriel is sometimes called Auriel.  But traditional sources
differ on what the names of the archangels are.  They all agree on Michael,
Raphael, and Gabriel.  But the 4th one varies.
[18:53] <Jessie> will it be kingdoms -- or areas/estates?
[18:53] <the_Bee> Azrael is one version
[18:53] <Unicorn636> Oh, you're right Melissa.
[18:53] <Shiral> The Floating Saint
[18:53] <Kiri`> all the other archangels's had orders in Gywnedd.. why not
Uriel?
[18:53] <Unicorn636> Raphael doesn't have an order in Gwynedd.
[18:53] <Shiral> Must be that "kiss of death" Kiri
[18:53] <KK> Uriel or Auriel may also have a healing connection.  His symbol
is a cupped hand with a flame in the palm.  I found that out after I'd
already made the Gabrilites the Healers.
[18:54] <emily> Also, I just finished Saint Patrick's Gargoyle, and I loved
how you made the gargoyles avenging angels.  The imagery in the book (with
the black mirrors) was beautiful.
[18:54] <Golux> Must be a good mom and go pick up Elsa from the birthday
party.  Talk about me while I am gone.  And think of a good name for a dark
girl rat.
[18:54] <Kiri`> he doesn't?  hmm.. i thought ther was a refernce somewhere
to it in the codex.. maybe not..
[18:54] <Gamgee> KK: don't forget that a Doctors final duty to a patient is
to help them cross over when the time comes.
[18:54] <Unicorn636> I think it's only Gabrilites and Michaelines.
[18:54] <KK> I think I avoided an order associated with Raphael because it
got tangled with (pre)Raphaelites.
[18:55] <Gamgee> at least in my opinion that is part of a Dr's duty.
[18:55] <Unicorn636> That could have been confusing.  Gabrilites avoids
that.
[18:55] <KK> I agree, Sam.
[18:55] <emily> Do you mean the art movement in the late Victorian era?
[18:55] <KK> Yes, Emily.
[18:56] <Kiri`> so what is Uriel the parton saint of.. if anything?
[18:56] <KK> Glad you liked the black mirrors, Emily.  I tried to make their
true images breath-takingly, heart-achingly beautiful--as angels <should>
be.
[18:57] <emily> My son has always been afraid of gargoyles, until I read him
that description-what a cool book.
[18:57] <KK> On that note, I think I'm also going to have to bail out, it
being nigh on 1 AM here in Ireland.  Jessie, I'll e-mail you my mom's
address.
[18:57] <emily> Goodnight Melissa! Give Kelric a hug for me
[18:58] <KK> Emily, I'm delighted.
[18:58] <KK> Scritch for Thumper.  Hugs to you all.  See you next week.
