Jan 28 19:17:00 <Evie>   Hi!
Jan 28 19:17:04 <Eyikl>   Hi KK
Jan 28 19:17:08 <KK>   Hello, all.
Jan 28 19:17:12 <Evie>   I was just saying I hope all is well with you this week
Jan 28 19:17:20 <Derynifank>   Ha, she must have heard you
Jan 28 19:17:30 <jemler>   hi kk
Jan 28 19:17:35 <Derynifank>   Hi KK
Jan 28 19:17:46 <Evie>   I was about to set chocolate mint Blizzards out at the quarters
Jan 28 19:18:07 <Derynifank>   Yum
Jan 28 19:18:14 <jemler>   go for it, evie! :)
Jan 28 19:18:37 <KK>   Yes, all is mostly well.  LBM's principal care giver during the week had a fainting spell on Thursday, so she took Friday off to rest and was to see her cardiologist yesterday.  Hopefully, that all went well and she'll be back tomorrow.
Jan 28 19:18:39 <The_Bee>   hi KK
Jan 28 19:18:47 <Evie>   Oh, wow!
Jan 28 19:19:01 <KK>   Yeah it's been....interesting.
Jan 28 19:19:01 <Shiral>   Hello Katherine.
Jan 28 19:19:19 <KK>   Motheris doing fine, though.
Jan 28 19:19:27 <Evie>   That's good.
Jan 28 19:19:29 *   Shiral snaps fingers and produces a tea table complete with tea and toffee almond shortbread
Jan 28 19:19:35 <Evie>   yum!
Jan 28 19:19:44 <KK>   I'm in favor of tea.
Jan 28 19:19:45 <Derynifank>   Hope it's nothing serious and she'loves soon be back
Jan 28 19:20:04 <Evie>   KK, I am sooooo sorry, but I took Mini-Duncan to Starbucks, and he's turned into a hipster!  https://flic.kr/p/FHxrNb
Jan 28 19:20:08 <Evie>   :-D
Jan 28 19:20:21 <Shiral>   Yeah she SAYS she's sorry.... =o)
Jan 28 19:21:01 <Eyikl>   *sad trumpet noise*
Jan 28 19:21:05 <Evie>   LOL! OK, sorry not sorry.  Actually what happened was I made him a knit beanie so he could wear modern clothes without me having to take his purple skullcap off.  :-D
Jan 28 19:21:17 <KK>   He doesn't look too bad.  Hoodies are appropriate outerwear when moving among Mundanes.
Jan 28 19:21:29 <Evie>   And then when DR saw his pic, she said all he needed was a coffee and skinny jeans, and he'd look like a hipster.
Jan 28 19:21:50 <jemler>   i want a hoodie with horns on the top.
Jan 28 19:21:55 <KK>   Hipster--is tht really a going-term, these days?
Jan 28 19:21:55 <Evie>   so that had to happen. Except I don't have action figure skinny jeans, so he went for the hipster glasses
Jan 28 19:21:58 <Shiral>   One of my favorite local bakeries used to make what was called Honey almond bars which was basically shortbread with a caramelized almond topping, but broke my heart because they STOPPED making them. But then I found a recipe for them that is WAY better than the bakery's version.
Jan 28 19:22:28 <KK>   Do tell, Shiral.  They sound awesome.
Jan 28 19:22:36 <Evie>   Yum!
Jan 28 19:22:44 <jemler>   post the recipe on RC.
Jan 28 19:23:09 <Shiral>   I'll have to send you the recipe. They're delish. But I have to resist the impulse to make them all that often.
Jan 28 19:23:18 <Shiral>   Or I won't be fitting into ANY jeans. =o)
Jan 28 19:23:22 <KK>   BRB.  Dogs are barking toward the front of the house, and Scott is not here.
Jan 28 19:23:30 <Evie>   LOL, Shiral
Jan 28 19:23:38 <Evie>   OK
Jan 28 19:24:12 <Shiral>   But bless the British Baking championship--this is from a cookbook with their recipes
Jan 28 19:24:20 <Evie>   Hopefully it's only a possum or insert local wildlife equivalent here
Jan 28 19:24:32 <Derynifank>   Hope it's just a passing cat or something
Jan 28 19:24:38 *   Jerusha (Mibbit@OWIRCN-7fc9a178.dsl.bell.ca) has joined
Jan 28 19:24:44 <Evie>   Hi Jerusha
Jan 28 19:24:48 <Eyikl>   hi jerusha
Jan 28 19:24:49 <Shiral>   Hope it's not the Torenthis.
Jan 28 19:24:49 <The_Bee>   Hi jerusha
Jan 28 19:24:52 <Shiral>   Hi Jerusha
Jan 28 19:24:52 <Jerusha>   Hi Everyone!
Jan 28 19:24:59 <jemler>   hi jerusha
Jan 28 19:25:00 <Derynifank>   Hi Jerusha
Jan 28 19:25:07 <Evie>   The Torenthi army marching on Staunton would be hella lost
Jan 28 19:25:11 <Shiral>   On the other hand, KK would be able to handle a passle of Torenthis
Jan 28 19:25:18 <Jerusha>   It's always the Torenthis
Jan 28 19:25:27 <Shiral>   Well, you
Jan 28 19:25:38 <Shiral>   have to have an interesting opposition, right?
Jan 28 19:26:00 <Evie>   KK would just write an...interesting outcome for an invading army of Torenthis
Jan 28 19:26:45 <Derynifank>   Could be the Mearans, they are almost more trouble than the Torenthis
Jan 28 19:26:48 <Shiral>   And then she'd invite them in for tea. =o) She is their creator, after all
Jan 28 19:27:08 <DesertRose>   Hi Bee, KK, and Jerusha
Jan 28 19:27:16 <Jerusha>   Hi DR
Jan 28 19:27:16 <DesertRose>   Sorry, I was afk finishing cooking supper.
Jan 28 19:27:36 <Evie>   The Mearans are being a lot worse trouble than the Torenthis right now, at my house anyway, since I'm rereading TKJ
Jan 28 19:27:37 <Jerusha>   DH is looking after the mess I made of the kitchen for dinner
Jan 28 19:27:45 <Shiral>   Well, the Mearans are apparently incapable of realizing a lost cause until they're faces are thoroughly rubbed in it.
Jan 28 19:27:50 <Evie>   Yay for helpful DH
Jan 28 19:28:12 <Evie>   Stubbornness, thy name is Caitrin
Jan 28 19:28:12 <Jerusha>   Lemon chili spaghetti leave a lot of dishes
Jan 28 19:28:25 <Shiral>   Caitrin had to lose her whole family before she finally understood she was beaten before she even started.
Jan 28 19:28:37 <Jerusha>   Hard lesson to learm
Jan 28 19:28:48 <Jerusha>   learn, that is
Jan 28 19:28:52 <Evie>   Lemon chili spaghetti? Sounds like an interesting recipe.
Jan 28 19:28:54 <Shiral>   She insisted on fighting to the bitter end, though
Jan 28 19:28:58 <Derynifank>   Not sure why anyone wants Meara since it seems to be a constant thorn in the side
Jan 28 19:29:14 <Jerusha>   Not your usual meat sauce
Jan 28 19:29:19 <Evie>   To keep it from being a worse thorn in the side?
Jan 28 19:29:37 <Shiral>   LOL, I read that for a moment as Mearan Spaghetti Sauce
Jan 28 19:29:38 <Jerusha>   Depends on whose side you are on
Jan 28 19:29:55 <Jerusha>   Not that could be interesting, Shiral!
Jan 28 19:30:08 <Shiral>   Mearan Housecleaning always gave me the image of King Donal running a vacuum cleaner.
Jan 28 19:30:24 <Jerusha>   Dice Loris carefully, then add to a pot of boiling water
Jan 28 19:30:31 <DesertRose>   A vacuum cleaner under a brand called Decimator, maybe.  ;P
Jan 28 19:30:39 <Eyikl>   Well if their sort of the Irish/Welsh to the Gwynnedd English, the stubboness just runs to parrallel to use.
Jan 28 19:30:44 <Shiral>   A shop vac, it would almost have to be
Jan 28 19:30:50 <Eyikl>   *us
Jan 28 19:31:27 <Evie>   I assume that recipe refers to chili peppers and not the beef/beans/chili powder based sauce stew recipe popular in the South
Jan 28 19:31:44 <DesertRose>   And southwest.
Jan 28 19:31:45 <The_Bee>   I don't think I'd enjoy being a Mearan under Gwyneddan rule--or anyone living under a foreign potentate.
Jan 28 19:31:51 <DesertRose>   Chili is Tex-Mex food originally. :)
Jan 28 19:31:56 <Shiral>   Ew, don't know if I'd want to eat anything with diced Loris in it
Jan 28 19:32:00 <Jerusha>   Yes, chili flake, lemon peel, lemon juice and lots of parmesan cheese
Jan 28 19:32:11 <DesertRose>   Yeah, this is Gwynedd, not Whistle Stop!
Jan 28 19:32:11 <Evie>   Ah, OK
Jan 28 19:32:35 <Jerusha>   Loris would be tough to chew, but easy to spit our
Jan 28 19:32:44 <Jerusha>   out, that is
Jan 28 19:32:52 <Jerusha>   rented fingers
Jan 28 19:32:53 <DesertRose>   "Secret's in the sauce."  :P
Jan 28 19:33:14 <Derynifank>   Probably would taste  really sour and give you a stomachache  if you ate the Loris  dish
Jan 28 19:33:41 <Jerusha>   Some secrets are best kept ,,,secret
Jan 28 19:33:42 <Evie>   I'd forgotten how much Loris comes across as an obsessed maniac by the time we meet him again in TBH.  Being imprisoned didn't improve his personality.
Jan 28 19:33:55 <Jerusha>   usually doesn't
Jan 28 19:34:06 <KK>   Yeah, the bishop ya love to hate.
Jan 28 19:34:17 <DesertRose>   When someone has been imprisoned unjustly (or believes they have), they do tend to build up rather a lot of resentment.
Jan 28 19:34:28 <Evie>   Not to mentions spittle
Jan 28 19:34:33 <Evie>   mention, even
Jan 28 19:34:35 <The_Bee>   barking dogs mystery solved, KK?
Jan 28 19:34:51 <Shiral>   Religious fanatics are rarely great company
Jan 28 19:34:56 <Evie>   Loris lurking outside the window?
Jan 28 19:35:18 <Derynifank>   No wandering Torenthis or Mearans?
Jan 28 19:35:30 <Jerusha>   Release the hounds of....
Jan 28 19:35:35 <bynw>   Loris is one of those characters that you just wish was mind-ripped for the fun of it
Jan 28 19:35:40 <jemler>   i actuslly liked loris. especially after his impression of a chandellier! :)
Jan 28 19:35:49 <DesertRose>   LOL @ jemler
Jan 28 19:35:51 <Jerusha>   Jemler!
Jan 28 19:35:58 <KK>   Nope.  Sometimes they just go off.  We did solve the mystery of who was trying to break into their dog chow box on the back porch.  Very large skunk.
Jan 28 19:36:09 <Jerusha>   Eww
Jan 28 19:36:16 <DesertRose>   Surprised it wasn't a raccoon.  They eat anything.
Jan 28 19:36:17 <KK>   Fortunately, he cleared out without damage.
Jan 28 19:36:27 <Evie>   Hopefully said large skunk didn't leave any odorous souvenirs
Jan 28 19:36:28 <Shiral>   That could have ended very bad and smelly ending
Jan 28 19:36:32 <DesertRose>   (and they'll go to marked and remarkable lengths to get to any sort of food)
Jan 28 19:36:36 <DesertRose>   Indeed!
Jan 28 19:36:40 <Derynifank>   Wouldn'the want to argue with a skunk
Jan 28 19:36:40 <Evie>   brb phone
Jan 28 19:36:43 <The_Bee>   not someone you'd want your animals to mess with.
Jan 28 19:36:56 <KK>   No, he appears to have been very well-behaved.  This time.
Jan 28 19:37:09 <Jerusha>   Our boxer had a run-in with a skunk.  It did not go we3ll
Jan 28 19:37:12 <Shiral>   My mother used a radio to persuade a family of skunks to self-evict from under her deck
Jan 28 19:37:12 <Jerusha>   well
Jan 28 19:37:37 <DesertRose>   Yeah, dog plus skunk usually results in one very stinky dog.
Jan 28 19:37:42 <The_Bee>   I've sometimes seen a skunk in my back yard.
Jan 28 19:37:45 <Evie>   phone
Jan 28 19:37:47 <Derynifank>   Did she play rap at them ?
Jan 28 19:38:13 <Shiral>   My cousin and her dog were living with my mom at the time, and Theda (the dog) had to have a tomato  juice bath at one point
Jan 28 19:38:31 <Shiral>   Not sure what she played, but luckily the Skunks DID decide to leave
Jan 28 19:38:53 <Jerusha>   Maybe bagpipes?
Jan 28 19:39:13 <Shiral>   All the neighbors would have left after that!
Jan 28 19:39:47 <The_Bee>   did the tomato juice bath work?
Jan 28 19:40:08 <Derynifank>   I like bagpipes if they are  well played
Jan 28 19:40:11 <Shiral>   As I recall it did, although Theda had a rather rosy aspect to her fur for a few days afterwards
Jan 28 19:40:31 <Eyikl>   me too, DerynifanK
Jan 28 19:40:34 <DesertRose>   I like bagpipe music too, but you want to be a good distance from the piper, because bagpipes have ONE volume setting, and it's NOT quiet.
Jan 28 19:40:36 <Shiral>   I do too, Derynifank, but NOT in the middle of the night
Jan 28 19:40:53 <KK>   We had a neighbor who played the pipes.  I heard him when I was outside one afternoon and went to investigate.  Nice chap.  He'd played at West Point.
Jan 28 19:40:55 <Eyikl>   Maybe on Halloween?
Jan 28 19:40:57 <Jerusha>   I like bagpipes as well
Jan 28 19:41:13 <The_Bee>   someone told me about an anti-skunk bath involving Dawn detergent and I forget what else.
Jan 28 19:41:23 *   Jerusha has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Jan 28 19:41:27 <KK>   Dawn is good for many things.
Jan 28 19:41:33 <Shiral>   You'd have to build up some pretty impressive airpressure with Pipes, I'd think
Jan 28 19:41:48 *   Jerusha (Mibbit@OWIRCN-7fc9a178.dsl.bell.ca) has joined
Jan 28 19:41:51 <The_Bee>   like cleaning oil from bird feathers
Jan 28 19:41:55 <Derynifank>   I have a friend who plays the pipes at MN on New Years Eve, outside
Jan 28 19:42:03 <DesertRose>   I read a novel (that I've read several times because I like it) set at a fictional college at which one of the main character's friends played bagpipes.
Jan 28 19:42:03 <The_Bee>   wb jerusha
Jan 28 19:42:15 <Jerusha>   Sorry, I had an annoying popup I needed to get rid of
Jan 28 19:42:45 <DesertRose>   The main character found this out because Piper Friend was walking all over campus playing the bagpipes in the middle of the night, and she woke up from a dream or something and heard him.
Jan 28 19:43:05 <The_Bee>   What's the title?
Jan 28 19:43:10 <DesertRose>   Tam Lin
Jan 28 19:43:14 <DesertRose>   The author's name is Pamela Dean
Jan 28 19:43:14 <Derynifank>   Would think he woke her up
Jan 28 19:43:34 <Jerusha>   Likely woke everyone up
Jan 28 19:44:12 *   Jerusha has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Jan 28 19:44:14 <DesertRose>   In the conversation that ensued after she and one of her roommates tracked him down and found out they knew the piper, he apologized for having woken them up, and they both said that they didn't think he had, that they'd woken up for unrelated reasons but heard the music in the distance and got curious.
Jan 28 19:44:16 <The_Bee>   Isn't there a folk character named Tam Lin?
Jan 28 19:44:17 <Eyikl>   ....like the story of the woman who goes to the fairy relem to get her human lover back?
Jan 28 19:44:24 <DesertRose>   Yes

Jan 28 19:44:33 <DesertRose>   It's a deliberate adaptation of that story.
Jan 28 19:44:41 <Eyikl>   cool
Jan 28 19:44:46 <jemler>   You guys ever watch 'American Pie: Band Camp"?
Jan 28 19:44:48 <Jerusha>   Now I got booted because Mibbit had a long running script
Jan 28 19:44:55 <DesertRose>   It's a fun book, and at times it got me through my degree!@
Jan 28 19:45:02 <DesertRose>   Sorry, the @ was a typo.
Jan 28 19:45:31 <jemler>   You guys ever watch 'American Pie: Band Camp"?
Jan 28 19:45:39 <Shiral>   Dmitri just showed up with a chip on his shoulder. He's being very talkative about it
Jan 28 19:45:45 <The_Bee>   not I
Jan 28 19:45:47 <DesertRose>   It was originally published in the early 1990's, I think, but it's been re-released more recently.
Jan 28 19:45:58 <DesertRose>   Nope, I don't do "American Pie" movies.  Not my jam.
Jan 28 19:46:18 <The_Bee>   Dmitri, behave yourself!
Jan 28 19:46:20 <KK>   Why does Dmitri have a chip on his shoulder?
Jan 28 19:46:30 <Jerusha>   Hi Dimitri
Jan 28 19:46:40 <DesertRose>   Carys has shown up to try to nose into my supper plate.
Jan 28 19:46:46 <jemler>   you were talking about bagpipes. in the movie one kid challenges another to a duel at band camp, not realizing that it was by instruments. he plays a bagpipe and wins. when someone asks if he was Scottish, he said "My Mom made learn an instrument; that's the most annoying one I could think of."
Jan 28 19:46:52 <DesertRose>   Which tells me I should probably take it to the kitchen.
Jan 28 19:46:53 <Shiral>   He's trying to tell me KK, but I need a translater of Cat into English.
Jan 28 19:47:13 <Eyikl>   Hi Dimitri
Jan 28 19:47:16 <Jerusha>   I can relate to that, Jemler!
Jan 28 19:47:20 <Shiral>   I think it's along the lines of the eternal disrespect of the Young for their elders. So probably Tati has been a brat
Jan 28 19:47:25 <DesertRose>   Carys is also trying to do her best impression of a roadblock.
Jan 28 19:47:40 <The_Bee>   food? water? Tati being a pest?
Jan 28 19:47:43 <DesertRose>   I can't see part of the screen because Someone's Furry Body is in the way.
Jan 28 19:48:02 <Shiral>   He's had supper, and I filled his water dishes, so probably it's about Tati
Jan 28 19:48:14 <jemler>   i'm a dog person, so a Cat I Lack!
Jan 28 19:48:18 *   jemler ducks
Jan 28 19:48:20 <Derynifank>   You mean you can'take see through her ?
Jan 28 19:48:53 <Jerusha>   Is it pink, Jemler?
Jan 28 19:49:06 <jemler>   :)
Jan 28 19:49:34 <KK>   I had a long-haired white cat years ago, Galadriel, who used to sprawl on top of the old-style TV with her tail hanging down in front of the screen.  Annoying if it weren't so cute.
Jan 28 19:49:41 <Eyikl>   jemler, have you heard of Xanth?
Jan 28 19:49:42 <Shiral>   But he and Tati often argue. The other night, she was in my lap while I was reading in bed.  Dmitri joined us and promptly chased Tati from her nice warm spot.  Then the next morning they were on the bed together washing one another's faces
Jan 28 19:49:57 <jemler>   Oh yes! Xanth.
Jan 28 19:50:45 <Derynifank>   Every time I use a contraction ac takes the  T" and turns it into another word. Very annoying
Jan 28 19:51:17 <Jerusha>   ac is a Torenthi plot
Jan 28 19:51:30 <Derynifank>   True!!!
Jan 28 19:51:32 <Jerusha>   Sot of like Chinese water torture
Jan 28 19:51:41 <Derynifank>   Yup
Jan 28 19:51:42 <Jerusha>   Sort, that is
Jan 28 19:52:30 <jemler>   eyikl, why do you ask?
Jan 28 19:53:34 <Eyikl>   It just seem like some place you'd enjoy reading about.
Jan 28 19:53:42 <Derynifank>   I had a cat who laid on top of the TV with her head hanging down in front of the screen so she saw everything  upside down  Often wondered what she thought  about it
Jan 28 19:54:08 <Jerusha>   It might have been an improvement
Jan 28 19:54:10 <The_Bee>   Remind me--who wrote the Xanth novels?
Jan 28 19:54:24 <Eyikl>   'THis is so confusing. Humans are Wierd"
Jan 28 19:54:40 <jemler>   bewe, piers anthony.
Jan 28 19:54:48 <Derynifank>   So they are
Jan 28 19:54:50 <Eyikl>   Peirs Anthony
Jan 28 19:55:03 <jemler>   i would like to have Grundys talent.
Jan 28 19:55:28 <The_Bee>   Thanks.  I've enjoyed his Incarnations of Immortality series.
Jan 28 19:55:47 <jemler>   never heard of that.
Jan 28 19:57:05 <The_Bee>   He also wtote a series of very punny titles.  Are those the Xanth books?
Jan 28 19:57:48 <Eyikl>   Probably. Though he wrote A LOT, so he could have multiple serieses
Jan 28 19:58:13 <The_Bee>   "The Crewel Lye," for example
Jan 28 19:59:03 <jemler>   yes, that's a Xanth book.
Jan 28 20:00:03 <KK>   Never could get into his work.  But then, I don't particularly like comedy.
Jan 28 20:00:10 <jemler>   in Xanth, Grundy the Golem could speak to any living thing. People, animals, plants.

Jan 28 20:18:18 <DesertRose>   I think it was at times, certainly.
Jan 28 20:18:38 <DesertRose>   In that time, a woman either married or took the veil.  To remain unmarried one's entire life was thought of as unnatural.

Jan 28 20:23:32 <The_Bee>   Hi Laurna
Jan 28 20:23:37 <Laurna>   Hello
Jan 28 20:23:40 <Jerusha>   Under all of those clothes, how could you tell?
Jan 28 20:23:41 <DesertRose>   The woman literally didn't use the privy unattended.
Jan 28 20:24:04 <DesertRose>   Laundresses and ladies-in-waiting and servants would have known, and would have gossiped.
Jan 28 20:24:23 <The_Bee>   If she'd been male, she wouldn't have wanted to conceal it.
Jan 28 20:24:54 <DesertRose>   And for her to have had male genitalia and conceal it her entire life, that would have required Anne Boleyn to have presented her as a girl from the word "Go," which would have been an appallingly stupid move and Anne was a lot of things but stupid was not one of her traits!
Jan 28 20:25:13 <DesertRose>   That too, Bee.
Jan 28 20:25:15 <KK>   That's part of why I think the hermaphrodite theory is more likely--though even that would have been difficult to hide indefinitely.
Jan 28 20:25:28 <DesertRose>   She caught a lot of flak for being a woman and holding power.
Jan 28 20:25:29 <Shiral>   Probably not, considering that living as a prince would have made her life VERY much easier. And Anne Boleyn might have kept Henry's favor longer!
Jan 28 20:26:22 <DesertRose>   And if Elizabeth had been a boy, Henry probably wouldn't have wound up having Anne decapitated, and he might not be so well known as the king who went through six wives!
Jan 28 20:27:23 <DesertRose>   Although around the time Elizabeth was born (maybe a little earlier), he took a fairly serious head injury in a joust and between that and the leg wound that never healed, that sent his temperament down into the substrata of the Earth!
Jan 28 20:27:26 <Jerusha>   I have never been a big fan of Henry VIII

Jan 28 20:28:25 <DesertRose>   No, because people with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome are sterile.
Jan 28 20:29:12 <DesertRose>   Another reason Wallis Simpson wouldn't have made a good Queen, but then again Edward/David would have made a rotten king, so it seems to be the consensus now that Mrs. Simpson did the UK quite a favor!

Jan 28 20:30:52 <DesertRose>   He did.
Jan 28 20:31:00 <Jerusha>   I suspect there were many intrigues at the time
Jan 28 20:31:41 <Shiral>   So did Wallis, I think. Which was a pretty shocking betrayal on Edward VIII's part toward the kingdom he had ruled.
Jan 28 20:31:56 <DesertRose>   I stop short of thinking that someone high up in the British government paid or otherwise induced her to get Edward/David out of the way, but I think if he'd been a better candidate for a king, it would be more likely that she'd have been encouraged to go away quietly.
Jan 28 20:32:33 <DesertRose>   Apparently his own father thought he would make a rotten king.
