Western USA/Canada Wildfires News/Update/Check-in Thread
« on: September 07, 2017, 01:02:05 pm »
In addition to all the hurricane stuff that is making a mess of the eastern half of the US (plus the Caribbean!), a lot of the western USA (and probably western Canada as well) is staring down a huge number of dangerous wildfires.

Below is a map of the wildfires in the western USA as of 4 Sept 2017.

In addition to asking for prayers/thoughts of healing and safety/whatever you do for the people in danger from the fires, as with the Hurricane Irma thread, I would like to make this thread available as a check-in/update/news/are you alive and okay? space to all our Rhemuth Castle folks who are near the fires.  (Aerlys, Laurna, and Shiral all come right to mind, but there may be others that whose names are not popping up in my mind at the moment, and it's not meant as a slight; it's because my brain is haywire, not that I don't care about you if I've forgotten that you're somewhere in this area!)

So please, everyone, be safe and well!  If y'all need to evacuate out west, please do and please travel safely if you do have to bail.  <3

Bumping this thread, because parts of northern California are particularly hard hit with wildfires at the moment.  Some new ones sprouted up in the Santa Rosa area Sunday night (8 October 2017).

News link, on BBC:  http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-41559875  The link includes a link to the state of California fire management website with a map of the locations of fires.

Shiral has posted to Facebook today, so she seems to be safe.

My aunt lives between Sacramento and Redding, and I just phoned her; she and my uncle and their various descendants (they have one or two great-grandchildren at this point, along with the intervening two generations) are also safe.

But anyone else in the area, please stay safe.  Evacuate if you need to do so (stuff can mostly be replaced, even if it's expensive and a lot of work to do, but where will we get another you?), and travel safely if you need to leave.

Hello all, yes, me and mine are safe from the Napa and Sonoma County fires. We do have some Long-time family friends who live in Santa Rosa, which has been hard hit by residential fires. We're hoping their neighborhoods were spared.  And the damage is being done to beautiful countryside. So....it's very sad.

Indeed.  It is very sad.

I'm glad you and yours (and my aunt and hers) are safe, but I'm really sorry that the folks who've been hurt or killed and the other people who've lost everything (I know of someone who had to evacuate with the humans, the dogs, and the clothes on their backs; they didn't have time to pack anything at all and their home [with all their furniture, clothes, and other belongings] is now a smoking ruin) are going through this, because it's just awful.  :'(

A new wildfire sprung up in the area around Ventura, California, within the last 36 hours or so.  :(
