KK Chat - Sept. 9, 2001, pt. 2

[16:55] <Kelos_al-Hazar> KK, I have a bit of a question, please. Is it ok if I register www.rhemuthcastle.com (or .org, since it's not to be a for-profit thing) If you don't like the idea, that's cool.
[16:55] <hygilac> 822 would be pretty early for plate
[16:55] <KK> Mostly mail, possibly a breastplate.
[16:55] <Kiri`> wouldn't they be still partially in ring mail?
[16:55] <Jessie> thanks Katherine
[16:55] <Shiral> That IS chainmail
[16:55] <scribbler> Going without undies seems to be taking the call for "Freedom!" a bit too far if you ask me.....
[16:55] <KK> Whatcha gonna do with it, Kelos?
[16:55] <Sedina> LOL Scribs...
[16:56] <Jessie> ah but Scribbler -- tis what a scotsman wears under his kilt
[16:56] <Shiral> Early naturists <G>
[16:56] <KK> Well, the Scots did usually go "reginmetal" under their kilts, apparently.
[16:56] <the_Bee> what about .net Kelos?
[16:56] <KK> Regimental.
[16:56] <scribbler> the cat commercial was great, Bart -- I wished they'd shown it more than just once....
[16:56] <Debbie-vb> and just HOW do you know that Jessie <wink wink nudge nudge>
[16:57] <Rambart20> I've seen it a couple of times
[16:57] <Jessie> I read a LOT of books Debbie-vb
[16:57] <hygilac> Sedina told her, Debbie
[16:57] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Well, I'd be working up a website that would archive a.b.d in a readable format...amongst other things, including free e-mail addresses for those a.b.d. regulars who wanted them, if I can manage that.
[16:57] <KK> Re armor, pretty much all flexible variations--just not all plate armor.
[16:57] <Jessie> k
[16:57] <hygilac> Sedina KNOWs about kilts!
[16:57] <Rambart20> when they did the behind scenes making of it on animal planet
[16:57] <scribbler> An Irish friend of mine told me that the Irish actually invented kilts and bagpipes as a joke; the trouble was the Scots took them too damn seriously..... 8-)
[16:57] <Sedina> Hey...don't be dragging me into this conversation here. Just because I have a thing with kilts simply because of my Scottish heritage!
[16:57] <KK> a.b.d.? she asked puzzledly.
[16:58] * Sedina is all sweetness and light
[16:58] <Shiral> alt.books.deryni
[16:58] <KK> Kilts are cool.
[16:58] <Kelos_al-Hazar> alt.books.deryni, milady.
[16:58] * Shiral thinks, "of course you are, Sedina!"
[16:58] <Shiral> Snert!!
[16:58] * Sedina pretends to be hurt
[16:58] <hygilac> especially in the wintertime, KK
[16:58] <Rambart20> aren't thye sort of drafty
[16:58] <KK> Sure, sounds fine to me, Kelos.
[16:58] * Kiri` tries verra hard not to choke on her unpeppery soup
[16:58] <Shiral> "Well Ventilated, please."
[16:59] * Kelos_al-Hazar nods and thanks the gracious lady...
[16:59] <KK> Yep.  But in the old days of the great kilt, when it was just wrapped around, the men apparently would often throw off their kilts and charge into battle with just their shirts, maybe with the tails knotted
between the legs.
[16:59] <scribbler> They had winter weight kilts -- I remember Noel MacLeod complaining about his once....
[16:59] <Kiri`> knotted? sounds a bit uncomforable..
[16:59] <Kiri`> but i can understand tossing away the great kilt
[16:59] <KK> Those are modern kilts, the small kilt, with pleats stitched in.
[16:59] <Shiral> Not to mention vulnerable
[16:59] <Mak> Well, the piper at Faneuil Hall last night was wearing running shorts under his! 'Twas too breezy not to be! :)
[17:00] <KK> Well, er, the male plumbing <is> vulnerable.
[17:00] <Rambart20> *just the thought of it makes me wince
[17:00] <Shiral> Trying to arrange a great kilt in a hurry in the dark would be quite a job, I think
[17:00] <Kiri`> i've always wondered how guys felt not wearing anything under there..
[17:00] <KK> Most guys these days do wear shorts or briefs, sometimes in tartan.
[17:00] <Shiral> "No, you can't attack! We're still getting dressed!"
[17:00] <Jessie> not if you had been doing it your whole life Shiral
[17:00] * Kiri` chokes laughing at shiral
[17:00] <Shiral> Even so, Jessie, that's a LOT of cloth to manage!
[17:01] <hygilac> Kelson thaought the same
[17:01] <hygilac> he was disinclined to trust it, as I recall
[17:01] <Shiral> And Dhugal was doing it in the peace and quiet of his own room with lighting available
[17:01] <KK> One of you guys would have to answer this, but I'd think that something equivalent to a jock strap would be much more comfortable and secure when indulging in physical exertion.  Similar to bras for most ladies.
[17:01] <Tika> mmmmm, the Highland Games are soon here at Stone Mountain... lotsa kilts ;)
[17:02] <Jessie> ;-)
[17:02] <Tika> I'll ask a few of the lads in the competitions about their kilts LOL
[17:02] <Shiral> I think you'd better go with her, Bynw <G>
[17:02] <Bynw> LOL
[17:02] <Kiri`> aybe bynw could get a kilt and give tika the summary?
[17:02] <KK> What was Dhugal doing in his own room?
[17:02] <Bynw> jock straps are NOT comfortable
[17:02] <Shiral> Putting on his great Kilt
[17:02] <Debbie-vb> neither are some bras
[17:02] <Shiral> The first part of Bishop's Heir when Kelson visits Transha
[17:03] <KK> More comfortable than serious joggling up and down, I should think. ;-)
[17:03] <scribbler> my husband agrees with you, Bynw, and he hasn't worn one since jr. high...
[17:03] <Mak> Especially some of what they market as "sports bras!"
[17:03] <Bynw> lol
[17:03] <Kiri`> sports bras.. nasty painful things..
[17:03] <Rambart20> I haven't done anything to excert myself to wear one
[17:03] <Kiri`> don't work either
[17:03] <Mak> Some of those are decidedly evil!
[17:03] <Rambart20> :-)
[17:04] <hygilac> most of them are if you have any need for one ata ll
[17:04] <Kiri`> so if they hurt and don't work.. why do guys wear them?
[17:04] * Sedina thinks that we've certainly gotten off on quite the tangent today
[17:04] <Debbie-vb> Probably invented by a guy ;-)
[17:04] <KK> Underwires are bad enough.  I hates 'em!
[17:04] <Shiral> Me too, KK
[17:04] <Mak> Right, Debbie!
[17:04] <hygilac> and me
[17:04] <Kiri`> bras were invented by a man iirc
[17:04] <scribbler> ditto...
[17:04] <Shiral> The invention of Sadists!
[17:04] <hygilac> yep
[17:04] <Kiri`> i'm tried of being stabbed by them.  refuse to wear them anymore
[17:05] <KK> Yeah, guys, but sometimes a bit of support is better than not!
[17:05] <Shiral> A  good bra isn't bad, but what diseased mind came up with the idea of putting wires in them??
[17:05] *** the_duck has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:05] <Shiral> Hello Duck!
[17:05] <Mak> As said, Shiral, a man's!
[17:05] <Kiri`> girls.. i once wore an elizabethan gown   was one of the most comfortable things i've ever worn.. and the only time as an adult i've been able to go without a bra!
[17:05] <scribbler> Hi Donald!
[17:05] <Rambart20> hey donald!
[17:05] <KK> 'Lo, Duck!
[17:05] <hygilac> speak of diseased minds
[17:05] <the_Bee> quack!
[17:05] <Kiri`> hi donald!
[17:05] <Jessie> hello Duck
[17:05] <Debbie-vb> The wires hold things up though
[17:05] <hygilac> minds
[17:05] <Mak> Hi, Duck!
[17:05] <the_duck> morning people
[17:05] <Kiri`> deb - no it was fabric stiffened
[17:05] <KK> Yes, a proper Elizabethan or Tudor corset is just fine.
[17:05] <hygilac> Hi Donald
[17:05] <Bynw> hi duck
[17:06] <Shiral> We're having a REALLY interesting conversation about support, here
[17:06] <Shiral>  <EG>
[17:06] <Sedina> Hi Duck!
[17:06] <Tika> LOL Shiral!
[17:06] <Debbie-vb> Hi donald
[17:06] <Rambart20> hey donald I tried to e-mail you back about your question
[17:06] <the_duck> i'm always happy to provide support
[17:06] <Kiri`> it was amazingly comfortable and you never felt constricted.
[17:06] <Tika> hey duckie :)
[17:06] <Rambart20> but it kept coming back
[17:06] <Tika> ROFL!!!
[17:06] * Shiral rolls on the floor
[17:06] <Shiral> Oh Donald, if you only knew!!
[17:06] <Tika> I'm quite sure you are LOL
[17:06] <Kiri`> back off duck =)
[17:06] * Kiri` wields her corset
[17:06] * the_duck could be a professional supporter for sure :)
[17:07] <Kiri`> lol
[17:07] <Shiral> Guys need some support too.....
[17:07] <the_duck> bart, i saw your message on the ng - dunno why you kept bouncing
[17:07] <hygilac> are you offering, Shiral?
[17:07] * Tika giggles
[17:07] <Shiral> NO
[17:07] * Debbie-vb thinks donald is gonna get a major surprise when he reads the transcript in the newsgroup
[17:07] <hygilac> lol
[17:07] * Kiri` giggles
[17:07] <Rambart20> I don't know either
[17:07] <Kiri`> woners what the question was
[17:07] <the_duck> debbie just about nothing can surprise me anymore - i'm all surprised out by this job
[17:08] <Rambart20> but I am anxiously awaiting for its appearance
[17:08] * Sedina giggles at duck
[17:08] <Kiri`> however shold i ever need support i'll know who to call i guess.. as will the rest of the ladies. =)
[17:08] <Kiri`> what happened today duck?
[17:08] <the_duck> i decided to do an edit of it bart
[17:08] <Kiri`> or yesterday
[17:08] <Rambart20> the story I mean
[17:08] <Rambart20> darn it
[17:08] <Shiral> So KK, in  Kelson's time, the women's styles don't sound, er, all that supportive..
[17:08] <the_duck> well the mearan sunday herald has become very prudish of late - i'm not sure why
[17:09] <Mak> Ok, time to pick up the girls at  work, so I must run! Nice chatting with you all, as usual!
[17:09] <Kiri`> later Mak!
[17:09] <scribbler> take care, Mak...
[17:09] <Shiral> Bye, Mak!
[17:09] <Rambart20> bye MAK
[17:09] <the_Bee> bye MAK
[17:09] <Debbie-vb> Bye-eee MAK
[17:09] <hygilac> bye Mak
[17:09] <Sedina> bye Mak
[17:09] <the_duck> see ya mak
[17:09] <Mak> Bye, all!
[17:09] *** Mak Quit (QUIT: User exited)
[17:09] <KK> No, I think they're more Norman and Renaissance, which weren't particularly structured.
[17:09] <Shiral> A shift certainly isn't
[17:10] <hygilac> would there have been perhaps a fitted chemise?
[17:10] *** Kendall has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:10] <Shiral> Hi Kendall!
[17:10] <hygilac> Hey Kendall
[17:10] <Rambart20> hey Kendall!
[17:10] <Kiri`> hi kendall
[17:10] * scribbler sends greetings to Kendall
[17:10] <Kendall> hey folks
[17:10] <Jessie> hello Kendall
[17:10] <Kiri`> did they use binding?
[17:10] <KK> Fitted, in that it might skim, sort of A-line, maybe.
[17:11] <Jessie> good to see you
[17:11] <Debbie-vb> Hi Kendall
[17:11] <Sedina> Kendall!
[17:11] <Tika> howdy Kendall :)
[17:11] <KK> Remember that all cloth had to be woven, on not very wide looms, and all yarn had to be spun....
[17:11] <Shiral> Labor intensive clothing
[17:11] <Kiri`> very
[17:12] <hygilac> that's why they changed clothes infrequently
[17:12] <hygilac> they didn't have a lot to change into
[17:12] <Debbie-vb> and there was , especially on the nobel's clothing a lot of embroidery
[17:12] <scribbler> that's why most working class folks probably only owned one or two outfits....
[17:12] * Tika waves goodnight to all :)
[17:12] <Shiral> Bye Tika
[17:12] <Rambart20> bye tika
[17:12] <Jessie> bye tika
[17:12] <scribbler> nighty-night, Tika....
[17:12] <hygilac> bye Tika
[17:12] <Debbie-vb> Bye Tika
[17:12] <KK> Nighters, Tika.
[17:12] <Kendall> later Teek
[17:12] *** Tika Quit (QUIT: User exited)
[17:12] <Kiri`> night bye tik!
[17:12] <the_Bee> leaving Tika? :(
[17:12] <the_duck> night tika
[17:13] <Kiri`> one for everyday  one for sunday
[17:13] <KK> Small wonder that we so often see the women sewing.
[17:13] <Shiral> yes
[17:13] <hygilac> and weaving
[17:14] <Shiral> And spinning
[17:14] <the_duck> and plotting the downfall of kings
[17:14] <hygilac> that too
[17:14] <KK> That, too.
[17:14] <scribbler> LOL Duck!
[17:14] <Shiral> And when you realize that children would have outgrown their clothes continually...
[17:14] <the_duck> phone
[17:14] <Shiral> <G>
[17:14] <hygilac> something to occupy the mind while the hands were busy with sewing
[17:14] <KK> But they passed clothes down the line.
[17:14] <Debbie-vb> %They were usually kept for the next one anyways
[17:14] <the_Bee> lots of hand-me-downs
[17:14] <Rambart20> I thought that was just meruade
[17:14] <Kiri`> and if they did wash something.. depending on the time of year it could take forever to dry!
[17:15] * scribbler is glad we have more than one outfit these days -- she's way behind on button-sewing on Mark's shirts...
[17:15] <Shiral> Me too, Scribbler <G>
[17:15] <Kiri`> or pieced up and used again if part was worn out
[17:15] <KK> I actually ironed three shirts on Friday.
[17:15] <Shiral>  I have a closetful of shirts screaming "Iron me!"
[17:15] * hygilac thinks she still owns an iron
[17:15] <KK> I close the closet door, whenever possible.  :-)
[17:15] <Debbie-vb> Shiral, amy I suggest ear-plugs?
[17:15] <Shiral> Yes, it keeps the racket down <G>
[17:16] <Kiri`> i try to buy non ironing clothes =)
[17:16] <Rambart20> has to iron his uniform for next weekend
[17:16] <Kendall> Kendall hopes that is all that is creaming in your closet Shiral
[17:16] <scribbler> Bart -- uniform?
[17:16] * the_duck doesn't believe in ironing
[17:16] <Shiral> I do too, but one of my good, no-iron bit the dust this week
[17:16] <Bynw> i have an iron ... it's sitting in the closet righ now .... most of my shirts dont need it though
[17:16] <KK> Mostly I try to avoid stuff to be ironed, too.
[17:16] <Rambart20> I'm in the Iowa national guard
[17:16] *** Shiral is now known as Ironing
[17:16] <Ironing> What do you mean, you don't believe in me? But I exist!!
[17:16] <scribbler> Ah -- good luck next weekend, then.....
[17:16] *** Ironing is now known as Shiral
[17:16] <hygilac> no one around here likes you, Ironong
[17:17] <KK> Cool, Bart.
[17:17] <the_duck> ironing is what happens to other people
[17:17] <Shiral> That's why I left <G>
[17:17] <Rambart20> thanks wen have one of our out of town things
[17:17] <KK> bart, what do you do in the Guard?
[17:18] <hygilac> Actually, I don't mind ironing if I only hd time to do it
[17:18] <Rambart20> firing our weapons and stuff like that
[17:18] <scribbler> Let's change the subject -- I've still got shirts on the bed to put away....
[17:18] <Kiri`> duck - who would that be i have some things for them =)
[17:18] <KK> 3 shirts at a time isn't too bad.
[17:18] <Sedina> "and stuff like that".  *giggles*
[17:18] <Rambart20> surprisingly I am a medic

[17:18] <the_Bee> You made it!!
[17:18] <KK> Hi, Jasta!
[17:18] <Shiral> We're glad to see you!
[17:18] <Kiri`> yes how are you doing?
[17:18] <JastaElf> Hi darlings!  Couldn't get in any other way but the alternate window!  :-)
[17:18] <Rambart20> I have yet in my 7+ years in the guard to see some one seriously hurt
[17:19] <Rambart20> howdy Jasta
[17:19] <KK> Hope that you don't
[17:19] <JastaElf> Hi y'all!

[17:19] <KK> Scott was in the CA Guard; left as a major.

[17:21] <Debbie-vb> so am I Shiral.
[17:21] <hygilac> even a civil civilian
[17:21] <KK> A friend of mind and Jasta's got called up for Desert Storm. That was scary.

[17:22] <KK> Ya just never know.
[17:22] <Rambart20> I was on active duty at that time but didn't go anywhere
[17:22] <scribbler> My Irish friend served in Desert Storm -- he was in the Navy at the time.....
[17:22] <the_Bee> was your friend ok, KK?
[17:22] <Debbie-vb>   One of my brothers served in Desert Storm
[17:22] <hygilac> heck, I'm beyond devout--I'm downright militant about being civilian
[17:22] <Shiral> Fanatical, even <G>
[17:23] <KK> He did fine.  I think he was crew for medics, or something like that.  Jasta, do you recall?
[17:23] <Rambart20> was supposed to be assigned to puerto rico but my orders got canceled
[17:23] <Bynw> fyi folks ... our main chat server, chat.psionics.net is currently down due to technical issues but we hope to have it back up tomorrow.  but the alternate chat server we are using is irc.recom.com and it's part of the same chat network.  good to have a backup huh :-)
[17:23] <the_duck> poor deryni bot blew some diodes did he?
[17:23] <Rambart20> the line companies take pretty good care of their medics
[17:23] <Shiral> When Com doesn't work it's good to have recom, yes
[17:24] <Debbie-vb> I didn't have any trouble getting in...
[17:24] <KK> Yes, good.  And it was easy enough, via the website.  Thank you, Bynw.

[17:25] * Debbie-vb does not get along with machines
[17:25] <JastaElf> woo woo!  :-)
[17:25] <scribbler> poor trusting soul.....

[17:25] <Sedina> Awfully trusting, isn't she?
[17:25] <Bynw> lol duck
[17:25] <Shiral> Yes, that's true, we have to get past the duck...
[17:25] * Jessie thinks Bynw should be looking out for others
[17:25] * Bynw worries about his safety with the duck looking after him
[17:25] <Sedina> if duck's looking after Bynw, he really is in trouble
[17:25] <scribbler> Some people have guard dogs --- Bynw has a guard Duck....
[17:25] <Kendall> LOL
[17:25] <JastaElf> in riding leathers no less....  :-)
[17:26] <Rambart20> snicker
[17:26] <scribbler> or more.....
[17:26] <the_duck> riding leathers or riding feathers
[17:26] <Shiral> Kendall, I liked your DAtZ 17 story
[17:26] <Shiral> Good point, Duck
[17:26] * scribbler needs to get her DA zine order in....
[17:26] <Kendall> I would like it too if I could get a copy
[17:26] <Jessie> Katherine:  is there a possibility of having the DAtZ be more frequently that once a year?
[17:26] <Rambart20> so do I
[17:27] * Kiri` is waiting for all her issues to arrive.. (splurged and got all 17)
[17:27] <scribbler> Give her a break -- she's already going to have to write books for us till she's 90!
[17:27] <Kendall> thanks Melissa
[17:27] <the_Bee> Doesn't it depend when Julianne gets enough material?
[17:27] <KK> Depends on how fast you guys write and how fast Julianne and Laura (and Melissa?) and I can edit them.
[17:27] <Kiri`> 90?  uh oh.. it was supposed to be 130!
[17:27] <Sedina> On until 90?
[17:27] <Sedina> only, even
[17:28] <scribbler> Well, since she's only 29, she's got lots of years left..... 8-)
[17:28] <Shiral> Well, the technology may be faster by then, <G>
[17:28] <Shiral> You're right, Scribbler <G>
[17:28] <KK> Speed of thought?
[17:28] <Kendall> Deryni.com might work
[17:28] <Shiral> That would be nice <G> But the documents might be incoherent.  My thoughts scuttle around like crazy things when I'm writing
[17:28] <scribbler> Kendall -- were you the one with the computer problems? How's it going....
[17:29] <the_Bee> That would be great:  I just think my ideas, and they appear onscreen
[17:29] <KK> Yes, one needs the discipline of pinning the words down on the screen.
[17:29] <Kendall> it is up an running for the moment, but I have no jdea how long
[17:29] <KK> I'm seriously contemplating committing new computer again.
[17:29] <KK> I went over the Dell factory this week.
[17:29] <JastaElf> Wow, a new desktop?
[17:29] <Debbie-vb> I thought i was the only one who had 'pooter problems
[17:29] <Rambart20> it is osrt of fun to let your imagination run wild:-)
[17:29] <Shiral> Wow, Sounds serious!
[17:29] <the_Bee> But once you have them onscreen, you can edit them.
[17:29] <KK> to the Dell factory.
[17:30] *** Kelric has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:30] <hygilac> how old is the current one
[17:30] <Shiral> Hello, Kelric
[17:30] <Kelric> howdy all.
[17:30] <KK> About 3-4.
[17:30] <Kendall> actually, you guys missed my point, why not have DAtZ online?
[17:30] <Rambart20> howdy kelric
[17:30] <Kiri`> hi Kelric!
[17:30] <Shiral> Only if I can edit them by thinking, Bee
[17:30] * Kelos_al-Hazar wishes he had the money to get a new one...
[17:30] <Jessie> Katherine:  are you saying that if people submit their stories to the zine now the editors would edit them now and #18 would be publised sooner?
[17:30] <Kendall> so do I Kelos
[17:30] <Rambart20> that would be cool
[17:30] <Kiri`> is getting set to build an althlon
[17:30] * Kelos_al-Hazar could do that...on his upcoming site...he thinks!
[17:30] <KK> Not the same.  Screens will never replace real books that can be held in the hand.
[17:30] <scribbler> My dad-in-law is looking at Dell, KK; he wants a computer with Windows 2000, not Windows XP.....
[17:31] * hygilac does not want an online 'zine
[17:31] <Shiral> I like haveing DAtZ in print format, too
[17:31] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Of the four majors, Dell is the best.
[17:31] <Kendall> I agree KK, a supplemental Zine
[17:31] * Jessie has 3 Dell computers
[17:31] <KK> Apparently Windows 200 AT, the next generation, is about to be released.
[17:31] <Jessie> they are excellent machines
[17:31] * hygilac likes to read sitting in an easy chair, not at a computer
[17:31] <Shiral> And in bed before I go to sleep
[17:31] * Jessie agrees with hygilac
[17:31] <Bynw> Dell's are great
[17:31] <KK> That's what I've heard, re Dell.
[17:31] <Shiral> Books are lighter and WAY easier to handle
[17:32] <scribbler> especially on buses and trains....
[17:32] <Kelos_al-Hazar> As a computer consultant, I vote for Dell over Gateway, Compaq, HP or most locally built boxes.
[17:32] <Shiral> KK, I approve -- get a new computer to make your writing life easier <G>
[17:32] <hygilac> I have a dell
[17:32] <KK> The one I'm looking at has a rewritable CD drive that also plays DVD's.
[17:32] <Kendall> while you are at I could use a new one
[17:32] <Shiral> I love my HP pavilion, thought
[17:32] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Occasionally, you'll get a generic machine that has the quality of a Dell, but rarely.
[17:32] <hygilac> mine will do that
[17:32] <JastaElf> Oh Cool, KK....
[17:32] <Jessie> Katherine:  I haven't heard great things about the next version of windows
[17:33] <KK> Even Cameron the Picky likes the specs.
[17:33] <Kiri`> i use my palm to read electronically.
[17:33] <Rambart20> dvd's are awesome
[17:33] <hygilac> No, neither have I
[17:33] <Kiri`> but i prefer paper books
[17:33] <Kendall> You always hear that about the next WIndows
[17:33] <scribbler> Didn't know you were a palmreader, Kiri.....8-)
[17:33] <KK> The AT one is supposed to be good.  ME is not.
[17:33] <Kelos_al-Hazar> I am not keen on Win2000, WinME, or WinXP.
[17:33] <hygilac> I have not had trouble with ME
[17:33] <Debbie-vb> ME is almost as stable as 98 was.
[17:33] <scribbler> Of the 3, Kelos, Win2K is supposed to be the best....
[17:34] <hygilac> I think becasue it came loaded on
[17:34] <Kelric> well,  work beckons again :)
[17:34] * Kiri` grins at scribbler yep =)
[17:34] *** Kelric Quit (QUIT: User exited)
[17:34] <Jessie> one dell has ME, one has 98 & one has 95 -- they have all worked just fine
[17:34] <hygilac> I think it is adding it on that causes the problems
[17:34] * the_duck beckons back at kelrics work
[17:34] <Debbie-vb> which isn't saying much
[17:34] <KK> My laptop has ME, and no problem so far, but I haven't had it that long and don't use it as intensively as my desktop.
[17:34] <Kendall> in case that any of you have noticed the new generation of readers are not reading paperbacks, hardbacks or even magazines
[17:34] <Kiri`> what are they reading?
[17:34] <Debbie-vb> e-books
[17:34] <Rambart20> thats diappointing
[17:34] <Kelos_al-Hazar> When you DO need to do maintainence, tho, Win98 makes it a LOT easier. You cannot reflash your computer's BIOS using a WinME bootdisk.
[17:34] <Jessie> Kendall:  they are printing them out -- they
[17:34] <Kendall> e-books
[17:35] <Jessie> aren't reading them on-line
[17:35] <scribbler> Actually, Kiri, I've been doing a lot of reading on my Palm too -- I installed Documents To Go, downloading stuff on the m100 and taking it with me....
[17:35] * Sedina will always be a diehard believer in reading something in real print.
[17:35] <Shiral> Me too!
[17:35] <KK> Reading on a screen is much harder ont he eyes than reading printed material.
[17:35] <Kendall> actually, theey are going to palms like Kiri has already said
[17:35] <Jessie> according to marketing studies I have read: the e-books that sell -- are those where the material is ONLY published in e-book form
[17:35] <Kiri`> scrib - i have a decent program    the reason i use the palm is because books get heavy and hurt my back.. the palm is light.
[17:35] <Shiral> yes
[17:35] <scribbler> I'd hate to get hooked on e-books though -- what if you dropped them in the bathtub? AAACK!
[17:35] * JastaElf needs new laptop... windows wont boot either off the HD or the boot disk.  feh...  :-(
[17:35] <hygilac> I never try to do a final proof onscreen
[17:36] <Kendall> but we weren't born reading the computer as the new generation has
[17:36] <KK> Oh no, Jasta!
[17:36] <Shiral> Jasta, you DO need some new toys, then
[17:36] <hygilac> I just can't be sure I will see it if I don't have a pen in hand to mark it with
[17:36] <Sedina> I can't do a final proof onscreen.  It's the former journalist in me.  I have to be able to make physical marks on the page
[17:36] <Jessie> bummer Jasta ---- bummer
[17:36] <JastaElf> :-) Yes, but I need $$ before I can do that.  Will have to be later next month
[17:36] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Scrib...that's no problem...the handhelds are battery powered, usually with 2 AA's...
[17:36] <JastaElf> Unless the birthday fairy comes through.  :-)
[17:36] <hygilac> it's still hard on the eyes, Kendall
[17:36] <scribbler> you still have to dry them out somehow, Kelos....
[17:36] <KK> I'm getting a 19" monitor, I think.
[17:37] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Quite true.
[17:37] <Shiral> What is your birthdate, Jasta?
[17:37] <Debbie-vb> How can you tell when a blonde has been using your computer?  the white-out on the screen.
[17:37] <KK> She's a Libra.
[17:37] <JastaElf> October 1 1956
[17:37] * Kiri` fwaps debbie
[17:37] <Rambart20> snicker
[17:37] <Kendall> our eyes aren't adjusted to the screen as well as the younger generation
[17:37] <Shiral> October.. darned good month
[17:37] <Rambart20> I heard that one
[17:37] <scribbler> As a semi-blonde, I semi-resemble that remark.....
[17:37] <JastaElf> I think October is wonderful.
[17:37] <Kendall> oct 12 here
[17:37] <Jessie> Kendall -- it is just as hard on young eyes as it is on other eyes
[17:37] <KK> October 18
[17:37] <Rambart20> deecember is even better
[17:37] <Kendall> it doesn't bother mine
[17:37] <Shiral> Of course, I'm partial to February, myself
[17:37] <scribbler> Jasta, you're just a few months longer than my hubby....
[17:37] <Sedina> Kendall, in a way I'm considered part of the younger generation and I still can't read things - at least be able to read them well - online
[17:38] <JastaElf> Me, my son, Kendall, KK, my anniv., my future "brother-in-law"...  :-)
[17:38] <Rambart20> Dec 24
[17:38] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Hey! I was born in 1963, and rarely print stuff...unless I'm going somewhere where I can't get to the data anyway else.
[17:38] * Sedina is partial to the current month actually
[17:38] <JastaElf> Shiral -- same month as Nigel...  :-)
[17:38] <Jessie> lol SEdina
[17:38] <scribbler> oops, younger.....
[17:38] <hygilac> ask your optometrist, Kendall
[17:38] * Jessie agrees with hygilac
[17:38] <Shiral> I know, jasta
[17:38] <Shiral> NIGEL HALDANE!!!!
[17:38] <hygilac> onscreen reading will NEVER replace books
[17:38] <Shiral> Not for me, either
[17:39] <Kendall> I have, i have two sets of glasses, one for the computer and one for real life
[17:39] <scribbler> I marched forth on March 4th....
[17:39] <Shiral> And same month as Duncan, too
[17:39] * JastaElf looks up expectantly and asks, "Did someone mention Nigel?"  :-)>
[17:39] <KK> Me too, Kendall.
[17:39] * JastaElf looks up expectantly and asks, "did someone mention Duncan?"
[17:39] <Kendall> oh, don't get me wrong, I wil never stop buying or reading books
[17:39] * scribbler has two sets of glasses too -- but always forgets to switch when she reads or does computer stuff....
[17:39] <hygilac> so do, I , but I also know that reading onscreen tires my eyes about twice as fast
[17:39] <Shiral> Just one pair, for everything here
[17:40] <hygilac> Duncan!
[17:40] <the_Bee> one pair for everything
[17:40] <KK> I remember those days, Shiral.
[17:40] <Kendall> I understand
[17:40] <JastaElf> me grins and says I knew someone would mention Duncan...  :-)
[17:40] <Shiral> My eyes do get tired after a day at work and an evening in chat <G>
[17:40] <hygilac> Kilts!
[17:40] <Jessie> any ideas of what the altorf colors MIGHT be Katherine?
[17:40] <Debbie-vb> I've only got the one pair too shiral, but they are bifocals
[17:40] <Rambart20> oh no not the kilts again
[17:40] <Kendall> but the new generation will be buying e-books and subscriptions to online wrting clubs
[17:40] <hygilac> purple and green, Jessie
[17:40] <Shiral> yes Bart, KILTS!!
[17:40] <scribbler> Jasta missed our kilt discussion, poor girl....
[17:40] <Kendall> oh, they already are :)
[17:40] * Sedina just has her pair of contacts
[17:41] <KK> Jessie, why don't you decide?
[17:41] <Jessie> barf hygilac
[17:41] * Jessie faints
[17:41] * Shiral forcibly wraps Bart in a kilt of McLain tartan
[17:41] <JastaElf> Oh my...  :-)
[17:41] <Rambart20> I feel a sudden draft( ala marilyn monroe
[17:41] * hygilac secures the kilt with a brooch
[17:41] * Debbie-vb once saw a gay tartan
[17:41] <Sedina> LOL Bart
[17:41] <Kendall> did I miss something witht he KILTS?
[17:41] * the_Bee holds smelling salts to jessie's nose
[17:41] <Rambart20> thanks
[17:41] <Shiral> Well then DON'T walk over the vents!
[17:41] <scribbler> Was that in San Francisco, Debbie?
[17:41] <Jessie> thanks bee
[17:42] <Debbie-vb> yuppers
[17:42] <Rambart20> its the those darn Iowa winds that are doing it
[17:42] <Kendall> Marilyn has better legs than Bart does
[17:42] <the_duck> so bart, you've finally admitted your one of the mclains
[17:42] <Shiral> Not touching that one, Kendall
[17:42] <Rambart20> yes i am
[17:42] * Sedina thinks that we really are in quite the mood today
[17:43] <Kendall> I wished I would have been sooner
[17:43] <Shiral> Where'd you get a silly idea like that?
[17:43] <KK> On that note, wtih lovely thoughts of gents wearing kilts in the breeze, I think I'm going to sign off for tonight.
[17:43] <Debbie-vb> Night katherine
[17:43] <Kendall> good night
[17:43] <Shiral> Night, KK! Thanks for another great chat
[17:43] <Rambart20> bye Kk
[17:43] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Sleep well, Katherine.
[17:43] <the_duck> night katherine
[17:43] <JastaElf> KK, do the Altorfs have heraldic colours and an emblem/device?
[17:43] <Debbie-vb> Sweet dreams
[17:43] <hygilac> Good night Katherine
[17:43] <Rambart20> thanks for stopping by
[17:43] <Bynw> night katherine

[17:43] <Shiral> Anad happy writing in the week to come
[17:43] <Shiral> And a good plumbing week!
[17:43] <hygilac> heavens, yes
[17:44] <Jessie> night Katherine -- write well -- and have a wonderful week
[17:44] <KK> Of course, Jessie.  And seriously, why don't you decide what they are?  You can consult with me on this, if you want.
[17:44] <Rambart20> lets hope his name is not mr o'reilly
[17:44] <Jessie> k & I'll talk with Jasta also
[17:44] <JastaElf> Night Katherine!  Love to Scott & everybody!
[17:44] <Shiral> But not with me??
[17:44] <Shiral> <G>
[17:44] <Sedina> Night Katherine!
[17:44] <JastaElf> :-)
[17:44] <Jessie> and Shiral also
[17:44] <hygilac> and me
[17:44] <Shiral> Thank you <G>
[17:44] <Jessie> and with hygilac -- but no purple
[17:44] <JastaElf> and her little dog Toto too!  :-)
[17:44] <hygilac> you did't like my suggestion?
[17:44] * KK steps into her Portal, waves good night, and disappears in green sparkles.
[17:44] <Sedina> No purple?  *lol*
[17:45] <Kiri`> night!
[17:45] <Shiral> various woodland critters of Gwynedd wave goodbye to KK
[17:45] <JastaElf> Night KK!
[17:45] <Sedina> night!
[17:45] <Bynw> just close the browser window KK
[17:45] <the_duck> cheers kk
[17:45] * KK 's voice calls out "Good niiiiight.....
