Dec 04 17:36:01 <DomMelchior>   Good afternoon, KK.
Dec 04 17:36:01 <Derynifank>   Hi kk
Dec 04 17:36:02 <DesertRose>   Hi KK!
Dec 04 17:36:05 <revanne>   Hi KK
Dec 04 17:36:22 <Evie>   Glad to see you.  :-)
Dec 04 17:36:24 <revanne>   I read that too, Jemler
Dec 04 17:36:25 <Shiral>   Hello KK
Dec 04 17:36:26 <Jemler>   Fashionable kk. the word is fashioable.
Dec 04 17:36:40 <Evie>   So I noticed the ebook sale is for international readers? Yay!
Dec 04 17:36:44 <KK>   Snow in Hawai'i?!
Dec 04 17:36:44 *   Shiral offers KK some hot chocolate
Dec 04 17:37:05 <The_Bee>   maybe on the mmountains
Dec 04 17:37:13 <DomMelchior>   I saw that article today too, KK
Dec 04 17:37:15 <Jemler>   yes bee.\
Dec 04 17:37:33 <Jemler>   i read it in USA Today.
Dec 04 17:37:55 <Evie>   I just finished reading The Temple and the Stone, KK.  Loved it!  I hadn't read your Templar books before.
Dec 04 17:37:57 *   Demercia has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Dec 04 17:38:11 <KK>   Ah.  They're fun, aren't they?
Dec 04 17:38:29 <Evie>   I thought so.  I've downloaded the sequel, but haven't started it yet.
Dec 04 17:38:43 <The_Bee>   Mibbit woke up and noticed demercia and revanne were both here
Dec 04 17:38:47 *   Demercia (Mibbit@42F7BC.570739.2FA117.C77E46) has joined
Dec 04 17:38:55 <revanne>   Shhh
Dec 04 17:38:56 <Jemler>   wb demercia
Dec 04 17:39:03 <The_Bee>   wb demercia
Dec 04 17:39:03 <Evie>   Being re-employed full time has cut into my reading time, but I was reading the other book as a bedtime treat, so i may do the same with this one
Dec 04 17:39:13 <Evie>   rehi Demercia
Dec 04 17:39:20 <Demercia>   Dratted Mibbit.  Register everyone
Dec 04 17:39:22 <KK>   I noticed that.  Wonder how long it will last this time? ;)
Dec 04 17:39:29 <revanne>   rehi
Dec 04 17:39:45 <Derynifank>   Register?
Dec 04 17:39:47 <Demercia>   Rehi, not register.
Dec 04 17:39:52 <KK>   You have anew job?
Dec 04 17:39:54 <Evie>   From the sound of things, it's more long-term than short-term, although still considered temporary.
Dec 04 17:40:13 <KK>   As long as it has benefits.
Dec 04 17:40:14 <revanne>   That sounds good, Evie
Dec 04 17:40:35 <Derynifank>   Are you happy with it?
Dec 04 17:40:59 <Evie>   It doesn't, but I get my benefits through my pension.  The benefit this job offers is full pay without anything aside from standard taxes being taken out, so that helps a LOT.
Dec 04 17:41:08 <KK>   Is it at the university again?
Dec 04 17:41:21 <Derynifank>   Yay
Dec 04 17:41:26 <Evie>   Yes, same job I did before, but with only half the duties and with higher pay.
Dec 04 17:41:36 <DesertRose>   Okay, actually back at my desk now.
Dec 04 17:41:37 <KK>   Hay, can't beat that!
Dec 04 17:41:41 <The_Bee>   sounds like a good deal
Dec 04 17:41:45 <Derynifank>   That sounds great
Dec 04 17:42:00 <Evie>   Since they've essentially split my old job into two positions, and I've got the easier side of it back.
Dec 04 17:42:19 <Derynifank>   Good for you
Dec 04 17:42:20 <KK>   That sounds great.
Dec 04 17:42:25 <The_Bee>   Is this temporary or long-term?
Dec 04 17:42:57 <Evie>   It is.  It's a lot less stressful now.  It's considered temporary, but could last for months or even past a year, it's hard to say.
Dec 04 17:43:37 <DesertRose>   Oh, Evie, I was telling my mom about Luke's bow tie, since they have one for Merlin the Manx Menace.
Dec 04 17:43:44 <KK>   Certainly fills the bill for now, then.
Dec 04 17:43:47 <Derynifank>   Temporary long term How's that for an oxymiron
Dec 04 17:44:14 <Evie>   If they offer me a permanent position, I would have to give up my pension until I retire again, which would mean a drastic pay cut since I'd not only lose that extra income, they'd have to take my insurance premiums from my paycheck there.  So I've got the best of both worlds as long as I can stay a temp.
Dec 04 17:44:36 <DesertRose>   But on work, funny how it goes that they realize that you were juggling more work than any one individual can actually do.
Dec 04 17:45:24 <KK>   And sewing for the Littles on the side. ;)
Dec 04 17:45:39 <Evie>   Well, it's long term, but it's not indefinitely long term. It's just that I don't have to worry about it going away anytime too soon.
Dec 04 17:45:40 <DesertRose>   And maybe working on the BoP sequel.  :P
Dec 04 17:45:52 <Demercia>   And writing fics😉
Dec 04 17:46:00 <Derynifank>   Tell them you need mire tine fir fanfic too
Dec 04 17:46:20 <Evie>   LOL!  Yes, I'll try to squeeze both in as I can, although the sad flip-side of working full time is less energy for the other stuff when I get home. But there's always lunch breaks and weekends.
Dec 04 17:46:33 <DesertRose>   So how was your week, KK?
Dec 04 17:46:35 <revanne>   not that we're hinting or anything
Dec 04 17:46:40 <Derynifank>   Mire time for fabfic
Dec 04 17:46:54 <DesertRose>   Oh, no, I didn't hint.  I don't do subtle.  :P
Dec 04 17:46:56 <Evie>   No, you people never hit.  You whop me upside the head with the clue two-by-four.  :-D
Dec 04 17:46:59 <Shiral>   Fanfic for Fir trees? =o)
Dec 04 17:47:13 <Evie>   *hint, not hit.  You do hit, with the aforementioned 2x4  :-D
Dec 04 17:47:16 <DesertRose>   LOL
Dec 04 17:47:34 <Jemler>   mire for fabfic? is that like a story swamp?
Dec 04 17:47:48 <Evie>   A fabulous story swamp
Dec 04 17:47:50 <DesertRose>   Everyone makes typos.
Dec 04 17:48:07 <KK>   Frantic.  That's part of why I was late tonight.  My mom came home from rehab on Friday, so I've been getting the home caregivers coordinated.  Tonight there was a gastric emergency shortly before chat was to begin, so I had to help clean up, since I was there.
Dec 04 17:48:11 <Jemler>   that must be the swamp shrek lives in.
Dec 04 17:48:20 <DesertRose>   Oh joy, KK.
Dec 04 17:48:22 <Evie>   A story swamp is what I feel stuck in the middle of about midway through everything I write.
Dec 04 17:48:27 <The_Bee>   total fabfication
Dec 04 17:48:34 <DesertRose>   Good that your mom is home, but the rest of it sounds pretty stressful.
Dec 04 17:48:36 <Derynifank>   More not mire but it is fab (fan) fic
Dec 04 17:48:52 <Evie>   Oh no!  Glad she gets to come home soon.
Dec 04 17:48:52 <KK>   BRB.  My tea has brewed, and wants rescuing.
Dec 04 17:49:15 <DesertRose>   To steal a line from revanne, without tea there is only chaos and darkness.
Dec 04 17:49:21 <Evie>   LOL
Dec 04 17:49:47 <Derynifank>   Tea makes everything better
Dec 04 17:49:50 <DesertRose>   It does.
Dec 04 17:49:52 <Jemler>   speaking of tea, what exactly is a crumpet?
Dec 04 17:50:09 <DesertRose>   revanne?  Demercia?
Dec 04 17:50:20 <DesertRose>   I know it's some sort of bakery product, but beyond that, I'm not certain.
Dec 04 17:50:35 <Demercia>   I'm trying to think what you might call it.
Dec 04 17:50:55 <Evie>   Here, jemler:  http://www.thekitchn.com/whats-the-difference-crumpets-113577
Dec 04 17:51:13 <Shiral>   It's kind of like an English muffin....
Dec 04 17:51:13 <Derynifank>   And is scone pronounced  with a long or short o
Dec 04 17:51:33 <The_Bee>   Mom had her own version of "crumpets," but I don't think it was the same as the English version
Dec 04 17:51:34 <Demercia>   Depends where you are in Britain.
Dec 04 17:51:55 <revanne>   Not too hard over the head as we want your writing faculties still to function.
Dec 04 17:52:12 <Shiral>   Without thinking of too many crazy twists
Dec 04 17:52:57 <DesertRose>   A long time ago I watched the movie "Shadowlands" (starring Sir Anthony Hopkins as C.S. Lewis and Debra Winger as his wife Joy Gresham), and the actor who played C.S. Lewis' brother mentioned something called toasted tea cakes, so I googled them.  They are SO on my baking bucket list!
Dec 04 17:53:14 <DesertRose>   LOL, revanne
Dec 04 17:53:34 <Demercia>   Dripping with butter😀
Dec 04 17:53:52 <DesertRose>   LOL, did you see that movie too, or is that just the way to eat toasted tea cakes?
Dec 04 17:54:24 <Demercia>   Just the way to eat them.  I did see the movie though, ages ago.
Dec 04 17:55:05 <DesertRose>   I actually have the DVD because it's one of my favorite movies, and I also bought the soundtrack CD, which is how I have a recording of one of the oldest songs in English, "Sumer is icumen in."
Dec 04 17:55:26 <Shiral>   Except in December, that should be
Dec 04 17:55:28 <revanne>   Toasted tea cakes especially if they are made with plenty of cinnamon are yummy
Dec 04 17:55:35 <Shiral>   "Winter is icumen in."
Dec 04 17:55:41 <DesertRose>   Because the character said that about eating the tea cakes, that you were supposed to eat them dripping with butter, so much that it runs down your arm.
Dec 04 17:55:49 <DesertRose>   Well, that song is meant to be sung on May 1st.
Dec 04 17:56:13 <Demercia>   They probably don't work unless eaten as comfort food on a dark dank English winter afternoon in an old house without proper heating
Dec 04 17:56:17 <revanne>   Waste of good butter
Dec 04 17:56:33 <DesertRose>   Not if you forgo all semblance of good manners and lick it off!
Dec 04 17:56:51 <Jemler>   https://theenglishkitchen.blogspot.com/2012/03/toasted-teacakes.html
Dec 04 17:56:55 <DomMelchior>   or get a friend ;-)
Dec 04 17:57:16 <DesertRose>   ROFL, DomMelchior!  Keep it PG13 now!
Dec 04 17:57:26 <Derynifank>   I bet the cats would be glad to help
Dec 04 17:57:32 <Shiral>   Four footed friend, Dom? =o)
Dec 04 17:57:37 <DomMelchior>   I was referring to my faithful hound, of course
Dec 04 17:57:56 <Shiral>   Yes, I'm sure he'd be delighted to help tidy you up. =o)
Dec 04 17:58:01 <Evie>   Of course you were.  :-D
Dec 04 17:58:02 <Jemler>   DR, I forgo good manners when I lick the butter off someone elses's fingers! :)
Dec 04 17:58:06 <DomMelchior>   Who never met a food he didn't like
Dec 04 17:58:11 <DesertRose>   LOL, Jemler, that is in fact the very recipe I saved to favorites.
Dec 04 17:58:22 *   revanne has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Dec 04 17:58:31 <DesertRose>   Drat Mibbit
Dec 04 17:58:45 <Jemler>   another one gone.
Dec 04 17:58:51 <DesertRose>   Faithful hounds are good for that.
Dec 04 17:59:02 <DomMelchior>   true, DR
Dec 04 17:59:04 <Derynifank>   Did mibbit just strike again
Dec 04 17:59:05 <Demercia>   I didn't touch her, honestly!
Dec 04 17:59:26 <Evie>   LOL
Dec 04 17:59:28 <DesertRose>   My mom used to say, when she and I first moved east after my parents' divorce, that she missed the dogs because, among other things, they cleaned up any kitchen-floor messes.
Dec 04 18:00:14 <DesertRose>   But she didn't want to bring the dogs with her because she knew we were going to have to stay with my grandmother (her mom) for some indefinite time period and then she'd be a working single parent and not really have the time to take proper care of them.
Dec 04 18:00:21 <Shiral>   Tati likes to be my dishwasher
Dec 04 18:00:26 <Shiral>   She's very good at it
Dec 04 18:00:28 <DesertRose>   I bet she does, Shiral!
Dec 04 18:00:34 <KK>   Our dogs ate quick, nay insistent, on cleaning up cat barf.  I know, sounds gross, but they seem to adore it.
Dec 04 18:00:38 <DesertRose>   Carys tries it with my cheese and crackers plate.

Dec 04 18:00:54 <Evie>   LOL, KK! Ewww
Dec 04 18:00:55 <DesertRose>   Ew, KK!
Dec 04 18:00:58 <KK>   dogs <are> quick
Dec 04 18:01:18 <Shiral>   Which reminds me, the pygmy lions are hungry. BRB
Dec 04 18:01:31 <DomMelchior>   Omnivores...in every sense of the word.  Sigh.
Dec 04 18:01:46 <DesertRose>   Yup
Dec 04 18:01:49 <Evie>   Just had a purring Luke attempt stealth mode in clambering over my hands again
Dec 04 18:01:53 <DesertRose>   Hi Luke
Dec 04 18:02:09 <DesertRose>   Including eating a lot of things you wish they wouldn't.
Dec 04 18:02:36 <revanne>   Or rolling n them.
Dec 04 18:02:43 <DomMelchior>   Or at least didn't know about.
Dec 04 18:02:59 <DesertRose>   My mom gave me a couple of cans of cat food because she'd gotten them but her cats don't like wet food, and she thought Carys might.  I opened one of them a few days ago and it was skipjack tuna in some sort of brothy sauce.
Dec 04 18:03:18 <revanne>   Sounds ok
Dec 04 18:03:20 <DesertRose>   From Carys' reaction, it was the cat-food equivalent of a well-prepared steak in a fine dining restaurant.
Dec 04 18:03:30 <Derynifank>   And did Carys like it
Dec 04 18:03:37 <DesertRose>   She LOVED it.
Dec 04 18:03:59 <Demercia>   Going to say goodnight, it has been a long day, as I was up at stupid o'clock.   Happy Christmas all😀
Dec 04 18:04:00 <KK>   Uh oh, you may have created a monster....
Dec 04 18:04:05 <DesertRose>   Okay, g'night, Demercia.
Dec 04 18:04:08 <DesertRose>   I might have, KK!
Dec 04 18:04:12 <Jemler>   nite demercia
Dec 04 18:04:14 <KK>   Nighters, Demercia.
Dec 04 18:04:17 <revanne>   Giving her a taste for fine dining
Dec 04 18:04:19 <DomMelchior>   Same to you, D
Dec 04 18:04:22 <The_Bee>   nightersm Demercia. Glad you came

Dec 04 18:04:39 <Evie>   nkjj
Dec 04 18:04:56 <Evie>   Sorry.  Evidently Luke wanted to say goodnight also.
Dec 04 18:04:57 <DesertRose>   I don't make tuna sandwiches at home, because I only rarely want one, and I've had a cat or several most of my life, and you absolutely CANNOT eat a tuna sandwich in peace with a cat around.
Dec 04 18:05:01 <DesertRose>   Hi Luke.
Dec 04 18:05:25 <DesertRose>   So that cat food was the first encounter she'd had with tuna.
Dec 04 18:05:36 *   Demercia has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Dec 04 18:05:50 <The_Bee>   I've given Melantha tuna when I was out of cat food
Dec 04 18:05:59 <Evie>   So maybe buy a can of tuna and give Carys what doesn't end up in your sandwich next time you're in the mood for tuna salad
Dec 04 18:06:13 <KK>   So have I.  Absolute ambrosia to them!
Dec 04 18:06:38 <DesertRose>   I have another can of cat food that Mom gave me that's some sort of poultry something or other.  We'll see what she thinks of that one.
Dec 04 18:06:50 <DesertRose>   Might have to at that, Evie.
Dec 04 18:06:52 <Evie>   Maybe that can be her Christmas dinner
Dec 04 18:06:54 <revanne>   Going to join my evil twin n saying goodnight. Merry Christmas and a Happy new year
Dec 04 18:06:55 <DesertRose>   Maybe.

Dec 04 18:13:26 <Evie>   DH is taking me out for dinner once chat is over, since he won't be here tomorrow, having had a delivery job offer that will take him out of town before I'm home from work.
Dec 04 18:13:38 <DesertRose>   Oh, nice!  Dinner-I-don
Dec 04 18:13:38 <KK>   That sounds nice.
Dec 04 18:13:52 <Jemler>   tough choice: German chocolate or Pineapple Upside-down cake? Happy birthday, Evie!
Dec 04 18:13:55 <DesertRose>   Dinner-I-don't-have-to-cook-or-clean-up-after is the best.
Dec 04 18:14:09 <Evie>   Not sure yet where we're going, but we might turn up at DD's restaurant to surprise her, since she is working tonight.
Dec 04 18:14:14 <Shiral>   I think Birthday celebrations should last at least a week
Dec 04 18:14:14 <DesertRose>   :)
Dec 04 18:14:26 <Evie>   I'm in favor.
Dec 04 18:14:32 <DesertRose>   When I was a kid, I asked my mom why you can't have your birthday off from work as a paid day off.
Dec 04 18:14:35 *   The_Bee takes a bite of chocolate cake with peppermint-stick frosting
Dec 04 18:14:42 <Derynifank>   I have a friend who makes his last a month
Dec 04 18:14:50 <DesertRose>   I still think that should be the case.
Dec 04 18:14:52 <Evie>   If they still remember my birthday at work, I will possibly have balloons and streamers over my desk when I arrive tomorrow.
Dec 04 18:14:56 <DesertRose>   LOL
Dec 04 18:15:04 <Eyikl>   I think at my mom's work place you do get it off
Dec 04 18:15:04 <Shiral>   That's grand-championship birthday-ing, DerynifanK
Dec 04 18:15:12 <Evie>   It depends on whether the woman who usually sets that up still has me on her office birthdays list

Dec 04 18:15:18 <DesertRose>   When my mom turned 40, she came in to her cubicle covered in black crepe paper and black balloons.

Dec 04 18:15:51 <The_Bee>   your mom or the cubicle wore black?
Dec 04 18:16:02 <DesertRose>   There might be photos somewhere but these would be film photos since I'M 40 now.
Dec 04 18:16:07 <DesertRose>   The cubicle.
Dec 04 18:16:46 <Shiral>   40 is survivable. It's the 80's you have to watch out for
Dec 04 18:16:54 <DesertRose>   Indeed.
Dec 04 18:17:12 <DesertRose>   I might be okay if I can get to 41.  The milestone years kick my butt for some goofy reason.
Dec 04 18:17:13 <Evie>   I have re-dressed Mini-Duncan in purple for the season, KK.  No new photos, though, and I need to find his medieval shoes so he won't have to hide sneakers under his robes.
Dec 04 18:17:25 <DesertRose>   And I've only got to get through about another six weeks to get to 41.
Dec 04 18:17:36 <Eyikl>   I thought the 1980s didn't sound too bad... ;)
Dec 04 18:17:44 *   KK has quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

Dec 04 18:34:57 <Evie>   Text from KK: "I booted out of chat and can't get back in. So I guess I'll see you guys next week. Cheers!"
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
