Nov 13 19:06:21 <DesertRose>   Hi Bee
Nov 13 19:06:25 <DesertRose>   Hi KK!
Nov 13 19:06:28 <Evie>   Hi KK
Nov 13 19:06:31 <The_Bee>   Hi All1
Nov 13 19:06:34 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Hello Bee and KK
Nov 13 19:06:40 <The_Bee>   andHello KK
Nov 13 19:06:42 <KK>   Hello, folks.
Nov 13 19:06:42 <Derynifank>   North
Nov 13 19:06:58 <DesertRose>   We didn't even finish calling the Quarters.  I guess the Dove dark chocolates in the South did the trick!  :D
Nov 13 19:07:34 <Jemler>   hi kk
Nov 13 19:07:38 <Evie>   Yes, we didn't even have to upgrade them to a DQ Blizzard
Nov 13 19:07:50 <Derynifank>   How do you put things in the quarters
Nov 13 19:08:16 <DesertRose>   To do something, you type "/me does whatever." minus the quote marks.
Nov 13 19:08:18 <Jemler>   hi bee
Nov 13 19:08:23 <Jemler>   brb. dinner.
Nov 13 19:08:26 <The_Bee>   hi jemler
Nov 13 19:08:31 <DesertRose>   Enjoy your supper, Jemler
Nov 13 19:08:49 <DesertRose>   Derynifank, for example...
Nov 13 19:08:55 *   DesertRose puts the kettle on for tea.
Nov 13 19:09:38 <DesertRose>   And the /me part has to come first.  The slash mark tells the chat program that a command is incoming.
Nov 13 19:10:08 <Evie>   Yes, if /me is in the middle of the sentence, it does nothing.
Nov 13 19:10:35 *   KK nods wisely
Nov 13 19:10:38 <DesertRose>   KK, how are you doing?
Nov 13 19:10:51 <KK>   I've had better weeks.
Nov 13 19:10:55 <DesertRose>   Yeah, I hear that.
Nov 13 19:11:15 <The_Bee>   What's up, KK?
Nov 13 19:11:17 <Evie>   Sorry to hear this isn't one of them.
Nov 13 19:11:22 <DesertRose>   What's going on?
Nov 13 19:11:42 <KK>   My mom had a minor stroke early Tuesday morning.  She's now at rehab, just across the street, but honestly, some people will do almost anything to avoid having to cast a vote in this last election.
Nov 13 19:11:54 <DesertRose>   Oh no!
Nov 13 19:11:59 <BalanceTheEnergies>   How is she?
Nov 13 19:12:01 <Evie>   Oh no!  :-(
Nov 13 19:12:02 <DesertRose>   I hope she's recovering okay!
Nov 13 19:12:18 <The_Bee>   ditto
Nov 13 19:12:26 <KK>   She was in hospital until yesterday afternoon, then transferred across the street to a rehab center.  This wasn't as bad as her first stroke 6 years ago.
Nov 13 19:12:28 <BalanceTheEnergies>   As do I
Nov 13 19:12:58 <Evie>   I'm glad she's improved enough to be transferred from hospital.
Nov 13 19:13:03 <DesertRose>   Indeed
Nov 13 19:13:03 <Derynifank>   Wish we had a King Kelson, Hope your mom recovers quickly
Nov 13 19:13:12 <BalanceTheEnergies>   That does sound positive
Nov 13 19:13:53 <DesertRose>   Strokes are bad news, but hopefully they caught it quickly.  There's more they can do to combat the effects than there used to be.
Nov 13 19:14:01 <Evie>   I've been trying to watch my cholesterol lately because my Dad's side of the family has a history of strokes, TIAs and heart disease.  :-(
Nov 13 19:14:12 <KK>   I had to drive over the mountain 5 times, all told--about an hour each way--so that was 2 hrs per day, not counting the time spent there.
Nov 13 19:14:56 <DesertRose>   Yeah, there's a lot of heart disease in my family too, but it's hard to tell how much of it was self inflicted because at least two of my family members who died of cardiac stuff were heavy smokers who ate very poor diets and one of them was an alcoholic and cocaine addict to boot.
Nov 13 19:15:04 <DesertRose>   Yikes, that's a lot of driving.
Nov 13 19:15:08 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I hope you're holding up KK
Nov 13 19:15:17 <DesertRose>   Seriously, don't forget to take care of you, KK!
Nov 13 19:15:17 <The_Bee>   an aunt of mine had a severe stroke; she couldn't speak and was bedridden for several years until she died
Nov 13 19:15:31 <KK>   This was a small brain bleed, upper right skull--so it was her left lower leg impaired--and it's getting better.  They're saying 3-6 weeks in rehab, depending on how hard she's willing to work.  Her BP was through the roof, so they first had to concentrate on getting it down.
Nov 13 19:15:39 <Derynifank>   Lot of driving. Glad she is closer now
Nov 13 19:15:42 <DesertRose>   Yeah, I guess so, re: BP
Nov 13 19:16:56 <KK>   I got no sleep Monday night/Tuesday early morning, though I did vote on the way home from the hospital, and took a nap early evening of Tuesday.  I think I'm caught up now.
Nov 13 19:17:08 <DesertRose>   Well, still, don't forget to take care of yourself.
Nov 13 19:17:17 <DesertRose>   You can't drive a car with an empty gas tank!
Nov 13 19:17:18 <KK>   I am, believe me.
Nov 13 19:17:55 <The_Bee>   Yes.  Yu need to take care of yourself before you can take care of your mom.
Nov 13 19:18:48 <The_Bee>   Are the animals giving you lots of TLC?
Nov 13 19:19:21 <DesertRose>   KK, with your permission, once chat is over, I'd like to post a prayer request thread for your mom under that section of the forum.
Nov 13 19:19:38 <Derynifank>   Have a warm cat in my lap, that always helps
Nov 13 19:19:49 <DesertRose>   Kitty snuggles are always comforting, yes.  :)
Nov 13 19:20:15 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Wimsey has been snuggling up to me more than usual of late.
Nov 13 19:20:24 <DesertRose>   Carys is always a cuddle monster.
Nov 13 19:20:28 <KK>   I may be able to take Gus to visit later in the week; they do allow pet visits.  And yes, you can post a prayer thread, DR.
Nov 13 19:20:39 <Evie>   My warm kitty (the smaller one) is perched on the back of the couch behind me.
Nov 13 19:21:14 <DesertRose>   I went to my mom's house Friday to do my laundry and unexpectedly spent the night because I got too sleepy to carry on before the last load was dry.  Carys was Super Velcro Kitty when I got home Saturday morning.
Nov 13 19:21:21 <DesertRose>   Okay, Will do then.
Nov 13 19:21:42 <DesertRose>   Aw, that would be awesome to have Gus the therapy kitty go visit your mom!
Nov 13 19:22:01 <KK>   I'll have to make sure it's ok with her roommate.
Nov 13 19:22:07 <DesertRose>   Yeah, good idea.
Nov 13 19:22:59 <DesertRose>   A couple of times when I've been hospitalized, they had a therapy dog, a lovely gray schnauzer named Greta, come make the rounds.  She was such a sweetie.
Nov 13 19:23:01 <Evie>   Yeah, that could be bad if roommate has a cat allergy, but I hope he can go visit
Nov 13 19:23:37 <KK>   Actually, it may not happen until next weekend or after, because I need to go back to Florida on Wednesday, to empty and deal with that safe deposit box; probably return on Sunday, hopefully after scattering the ashes.
Nov 13 19:23:53 <DesertRose>   Is that the last bit of dealing with your dad's estate?
Nov 13 19:23:58 <Derynifank>   I had obe who would crawl under the covers and snuggle up and purr

Nov 13 19:24:22 <DesertRose>   Whom I'm guessing is revanne having made a typo.
Nov 13 19:24:26 <KK>   But at least she's safe there, being taken care of, and Scot can look in on her every day while I"m gone.  Easier then when she's home and I have to go away.
Nov 13 19:24:29 <Evie>   Hi FWP
Nov 13 19:24:30 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Hello Revanne

Nov 13 19:25:24 <DesertRose>   Well, shucks.  Did I tick her off by pointing out the typo?
Nov 13 19:25:38 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Or is she trying to fix it?
Nov 13 19:25:42 <The_Bee>   Do you have a special place to scatter the ashes, KK?
Nov 13 19:25:42 <DesertRose>   That could be it.

Nov 13 19:31:11 <The_Bee>   Hi Eyiki
Nov 13 19:31:24 <Jerusha>   Hi Eiyki
Nov 13 19:32:00 <KK>   Hi, Revanne, you can please put my mom, Margaret, on your prayer list.  She had a minor stroke late Monday/early Tuesday, was in hospital until yesterday, and is now in rehab.  Minor deficit, weakness in her left leg from knee, which is getting better, but rehab will probably be 3-6 weeks, depending on how hard she works.
Nov 13 19:32:17 <Shiral>   Oh dear! Really sorry to  hear it, KK
Nov 13 19:32:36 <Jerusha>   Hope she recovers soon, KK
Nov 13 19:32:50 <revanne>   Certainly I will. Sorry to hear that.
Nov 13 19:32:51 <Eyikl>   yic. Bad news day, Tuesday.
Nov 13 19:33:03 <Derynifank>   Your mom is in my prayers  kk
Nov 13 19:33:37 <KK>   She wants to come home, of course, but she can't until she can walk.  I think she'll be there for Thanksgiving, but should be home for Christmas.
Nov 13 19:33:58 <Jerusha>   That is a long recovery, then.
Nov 13 19:34:02 <Derynifank>   Really hope so
Nov 13 19:34:13 <revanne>   Is her speech ok?
Nov 13 19:34:13 <KK>   Yeah, I joked earlier that some people will do almost anything to avoid voting in this last election.
Nov 13 19:34:19 <Jemler>   i've spent every holiday in the hospital.
Nov 13 19:34:24 <Shiral>   Hope the rehab goes well and quickly for her, KK
Nov 13 19:35:02 <DesertRose>   No one WANTS to be in the hospital or rehab ever, never mind at the holidays.
Nov 13 19:35:12 <Jerusha>   No kidding
Nov 13 19:35:27 <revanne>   Hopefully not this year Jemler.
Nov 13 19:35:30 <BalanceTheEnergies>   No kidding DR my mother complained bitterly about her last two trips
Nov 13 19:35:49 <KK>   Speech is fine, arms are fine, cognition is fine.  It was a brain bleed in the right motor cortex, about the size of a cherry, they said.  But she was very lucky.  She MUST be religious about taking her BP meds, though.
Nov 13 19:35:49 *   Shiral has quit (Client closed the connection)
Nov 13 19:36:06 <DesertRose>   It sucks.  I had to be in overnight at the end of August for my appendectomy and I'd rather not have done that, but it beat having my appendix burst.
Nov 13 19:36:07 *   Shiral2 (~Shiral@OWIRCN-e6adf1cc.ca.comcast.net) has joined
Nov 13 19:36:11 <Derynifank>   Hope she will be home for Christmas
Nov 13 19:36:13 <Jerusha>   Mibbit got Shiral?
Nov 13 19:36:17 <DesertRose>   Hi Shiral2
Nov 13 19:36:19 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Looks like it
Nov 13 19:36:27 <Shiral2>   Dang. I don't know if it was Mibbit or Dmitri
Nov 13 19:36:31 <revanne>   Rehi Shiral
Nov 13 19:36:31 <Jerusha>   I read that as Shiraz2
Nov 13 19:36:36 *   Shiral2 is now known as Shiral
Nov 13 19:36:41 <DesertRose>   I'll take some wine!  :)
Nov 13 19:36:55 *   Shiral pours DR some wine
Nov 13 19:37:01 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Sounds tempting, not sure I should though
Nov 13 19:37:03 <revanne>   Did someone say wine
Nov 13 19:37:13 <Shiral>   I presume you want some Fianna red?
Nov 13 19:37:15 <Jerusha>   Alas, it is red.
Nov 13 19:37:15 <Jemler>   ah, baklava!
Nov 13 19:37:32 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I usually adore red wine
Nov 13 19:37:45 <Jerusha>   I have always hoped Matyas grows a fine chardonney
Nov 13 19:37:54 <Derynifank>   How about sone Vezairi port
Nov 13 19:37:58 <DesertRose>   If I have a meal with it, I can handle red wine, but otherwise I am one of those sad people who gets a headache from reds.
Nov 13 19:38:12 *   Shiral sniffs wine pitcher. I have a wine pitcher that does the same thing as my chatroom teapot--whatever wine you want is what comes out of the spout
Nov 13 19:38:23 <Jemler>   i have yet to open my spiced mead.
Nov 13 19:38:30 <DesertRose>   So usually when I drink wine, I go for whites.
Nov 13 19:38:32 <Jerusha>   Hello chardonnay!
Nov 13 19:38:38 <DesertRose>   I'm particularly fond of Riesling.
Nov 13 19:38:41 <Derynifank>   Yay, a mqgic pitcher
Nov 13 19:38:48 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Semillon is nice
Nov 13 19:38:51 <Jerusha>   Oh yes, DR - I agree with that
Nov 13 19:38:51 *   Shiral pours DR some Riesling
Nov 13 19:38:55 <DesertRose>   Yes, Semillon is nice.
Nov 13 19:38:56 <revanne>   Spiced mead for me please.
Nov 13 19:39:01 <Evie>   I'll have some Roscato, please
Nov 13 19:39:20 <DesertRose>   I had a bottle of a white Bordeaux that was a Semillon/Pinot Gris blend that was just lovely.
Nov 13 19:39:25 <The_Bee>   mead, please
Nov 13 19:39:31 <DesertRose>   Bee would go for mead.  :)
Nov 13 19:39:31 *   Shiral pours some Semillon, Spiced Mead and Roscato for all those that want it and a glass of Vouvray for herself
Nov 13 19:39:40 <Jerusha>   Jerusha passes out wine charms so we know what we are drinking
Nov 13 19:39:49 *   Shiral passes the mead and bordeaux
Nov 13 19:39:55 <revanne>   Ands out oatcakes and cheese to soak up some of the alcohol
Nov 13 19:40:04 <DesertRose>   :)
Nov 13 19:40:05 *   Evie waves a hand over her Roscato and it magically transforms into a Fianna red
Nov 13 19:40:10 <revanne>   Or even hands
Nov 13 19:40:13 <The_Bee>   I'vew never heard of semillon.  What's  it like?
Nov 13 19:40:18 <DesertRose>   revanne, you
Nov 13 19:40:19 *   Shiral adds some cut up honeycrisp apples
Nov 13 19:40:22 <Jerusha>   It is pleasant
Nov 13 19:40:26 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Manchego? Drunken goat?
Nov 13 19:40:30 <DesertRose>   revanne, you were just having a Cockney moment.  :)
Nov 13 19:40:31 <Derynifank>   Have sone tasty brie
Nov 13 19:40:32 <Shiral>   neat trick, Evie
Nov 13 19:40:38 <revanne>   Lol
Nov 13 19:40:48 <DesertRose>   It's a white wine grape, has a crisp flavor to it (Semillon).
Nov 13 19:40:49 <Eyikl>   I didn't think cheese was particularly absorbent. :)
Nov 13 19:41:00 <BalanceTheEnergies>   It's the fat content
Nov 13 19:41:18 <revanne>   Or a post-midnight insomnimonster moment!
Nov 13 19:41:19 <KK>   Brie with a crisp white--mighty fine.
Nov 13 19:41:38 *   Shiral passes KK the wine pitcher and cheese plate
Nov 13 19:41:43 <DesertRose>   Oh yes, the smooth richness of the Brie offset by the crisp white wine.  That IS a lovely combination!
Nov 13 19:41:48 <Derynifank>   But brie on crackers with hot pepper jelly is realky good
Nov 13 19:42:28 <revanne>   A nice rich blue Stilton goes well with fianna red
Nov 13 19:42:32 <Jerusha>   A good welsh cheddar is good as well
Nov 13 19:42:39 <Shiral>   Now I wish I had some brie of the non-virtual kind
Nov 13 19:42:42 *   Eyikl munches happily on honeycrisp and brie.
Nov 13 19:42:50 <DesertRose>   One of my favorite local restaurants serves an appetizer that is a small warm wheel of Brie covered with slivered almonds and served with apple slices and crackers.
Nov 13 19:42:53 <Evie>   Ooh, cheddar!
Nov 13 19:42:56 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I had a baked Brie once, flaky pastry with mushrooms inside with the cheese.
Nov 13 19:43:04 <revanne>   Yum DR
Nov 13 19:43:08 <DesertRose>   It is yum!
Nov 13 19:43:10 <Derynifank>   Yum!
Nov 13 19:43:35 <Jemler>   Dallas just beat Pittsburgh! 35 - 30.
Nov 13 19:43:41 <Evie>   A friend of ours does a baked Brie with some sort of apple nut topping. It's amazing.
Nov 13 19:43:42 <Eyikl>   BTM, I was with you until you got to the mushrooms
Nov 13 19:43:45 <Jerusha>   I just ate dinner, and now I am hungry again!
Nov 13 19:44:02 <Jemler>   i just had some baklava.
Nov 13 19:44:06 <DesertRose>   Yeah, Eyikl, I've never met a mushroom I could stomach either.
Nov 13 19:44:09 <KK>   I haven't had dinner yet, and I'm definitely hungry.
Nov 13 19:44:16 <DesertRose>   Baklava is all kinds of yummy!
Nov 13 19:44:24 <Evie>   Yes
Nov 13 19:44:40 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I think the baked Brie comes other ways Eyikl. I've seen them with cherries and almonds, among other things
Nov 13 19:44:42 <Shiral>   Have I missed any Deryni news?
Nov 13 19:44:44 <DesertRose>   It's kind of a pain in the keister to make because of the dough, but it's definitely yummy!
Nov 13 19:44:49 <KK>   We have no brie just now, though.  Scott doesn't care for it, so I only buy it when we're entertaining.  Otherwise, I'd eat the whole thing.
Nov 13 19:44:55 <DesertRose>   LOL, KK!
Nov 13 19:45:00 <revanne>   I love it in small amounts but generally prefer savoury
Nov 13 19:45:00 <DesertRose>   Sounds like me and Oreos.
Nov 13 19:45:04 <Eyikl>   lol
Nov 13 19:45:16 <Jerusha>   I am not big on brie
Nov 13 19:45:22 <Jemler>   like my mother and pineapple upside down cake.
Nov 13 19:45:24 <Shiral>   I have to buy tiny wedges, and make myself eat only a small amount per day, but I LOVE brie
Nov 13 19:45:27 <Evie>   I like Brie in small amounts.  Cheddar, on the other hand, I could live on.
Nov 13 19:45:32 <KK>   No Deryni news.  I was otherwise occupied this week, though I mightily would have wished it otherwise/\.
Nov 13 19:45:35 <The_Bee>   The Deryni are being neglected tonight,Shiral
Nov 13 19:45:42 <Shiral>   Oh, Duh. Of course
Nov 13 19:45:45 <DesertRose>   I love me some Cheddar, extra sharp for happiest DesertRose.
Nov 13 19:45:46 <Jerusha>   Understandable, KK
Nov 13 19:45:49 <Jemler>   longhorn aka colby.
Nov 13 19:45:59 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Yeah, I like cheddar and manchego
Nov 13 19:46:12 <KK>   Stilton & Port, though it's hard to find decent Stilton around here.
Nov 13 19:46:18 <Shiral>   I'm fond of provolone
Nov 13 19:46:19 <The_Bee>   extra sharp cheddar for me.  or feta
Nov 13 19:46:28 <DesertRose>   Monterey jack has its uses in certain dishes; it does melt so well.
Nov 13 19:46:47 <Evie>   I like smoked provolone and smoked cheddar, though the latter is harder to find around here
Nov 13 19:46:48 <Jerusha>   Great on taco salads
Nov 13 19:46:49 <DesertRose>   Provolone is good too.  I'm the weirdo who likes provolone on a ham sandwich.
Nov 13 19:46:54 <Eyikl>   I like blue cheese, or brie, or most anything without mushrooms or nuts.
Nov 13 19:46:54 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I had an Asiago bagel for breakfast today.
Nov 13 19:47:03 <Shiral>   I don't find that weird at all, DR
Nov 13 19:47:13 <Jerusha>   That sounds good, BTE
Nov 13 19:47:13 <DesertRose>   :)
Nov 13 19:47:14 <KK>   Camembert is very nice.
Nov 13 19:47:23 <Shiral>   It is
Nov 13 19:47:39 <Shiral>   Had lovely Camembert the last time I was in France
Nov 13 19:47:50 <DesertRose>   I'm particularly fond of using Monterey jack in Mexican cooking.
Nov 13 19:47:57 <DesertRose>   It does so well with enchiladas.
Nov 13 19:48:04 <revanne>   But it does rather impose itself on everything else within smelling distance.
Nov 13 19:48:05 <Jerusha>   Grilled cheese sandwich with gouda, sharp cheddar and swiss
Nov 13 19:48:13 <Evie>   I have to limit my cheese intake, but I have found some lowfat cheeses that come in small single-sized portions to keep me happy
Nov 13 19:48:35 <KK>   Let us give thanks for cheeses in general, for they are the bounty of the cow, and delicious with just about everything!
Nov 13 19:48:35 <Shiral>   I like cheese best when it's melted. Otherwise I'm not crazy about the texture
Nov 13 19:48:41 <The_Bee>   I remember, some years ago college students conducted an experiment. They asked people if the U.S. should send troops to Provolone.
Nov 13 19:48:53 <Evie>   LOL
Nov 13 19:49:02 <revanne>   I have cheese as a treat otherwise just looking at it and I've put on several pounds.
Nov 13 19:49:07 <Eyikl>   Dublin is a good sharp cheese. My sister and I used to eat it by the pound.
Nov 13 19:49:08 <Shiral>   Only if we're now recruiting mice soldiers
Nov 13 19:49:10 <DesertRose>   Although I could probably do better now that queso blanco is more widely available than it used to be; I just got in the habit years ago of using jack for Mex dishes because queso blanco (which is more authentically Mexican) was hard to find in US grocery stores, especially on the East Coast.
Nov 13 19:50:29 <DesertRose>   But heck, I've seen queso blanco in freaking Walmart.  It's not that exotic an ingredient anymore, LOL.
Nov 13 19:50:50 <Jemler>   sorry to cut this short folks, but i have an early day tomorrow. so, i'll say good night.
Nov 13 19:50:56 <Eyikl>   That sounds like the experimental petition to ban Dihydrogen Monoxide
Nov 13 19:50:56 <KK>   We had some wonderful Mexican food in Gainesville, on the way south in September.  Having the beef chopped instead of ground makes all the difference in the texture.  I had an excellent quesadilla.
Nov 13 19:50:57 <Shiral>   I had some good queso blanco in Oaxaca. But I soon get enough of any kind of cheese.
Nov 13 19:50:59 <Evie>   Goodnight jemler
Nov 13 19:51:00 <Shiral>   Night, Jemler
Nov 13 19:51:08 <DesertRose>   Okay, g'night, Jemler, best wishes with the CT tomorrow!
Nov 13 19:51:11 <The_Bee>   good night, Jemler.  I hope all goes well.
Nov 13 19:51:13 <KK>   Nighters, Jemler.
Nov 13 19:51:14 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Good night Jemler
Nov 13 19:51:20 <revanne>   Goodnight Jemler
Nov 13 19:51:22 <Eyikl>   goodnight jemler
Nov 13 19:51:23 <Jerusha>   Night Jemler
Nov 13 19:51:30 <BalanceTheEnergies>   & good luck
Nov 13 19:51:40 <Shiral>   Good luck, Jemler
Nov 13 19:51:53 <Jerusha>   CT?
Nov 13 19:52:06 <Jemler>   they're mapping my arteries for my cardiologist. my aorta is starting to swell up.
Nov 13 19:52:10 <Derynifank>   Actually Walmart often has things other  stores don't
Nov 13 19:52:21 <Shiral>   Doesn't sound good=o(
Nov 13 19:52:28 <Jerusha>   Good luck Jemler - hope all goes well
Nov 13 19:52:33 <DesertRose>   True, Derynifank.  I've also seen it in Publix.  Haven't looked in other supermarkets, though.
Nov 13 19:52:36 <KK>   Walmart now carries digestive biscuits--McVittie's, even.
Nov 13 19:52:42 <Derynifank>   Goid luck Jemler
Nov 13 19:52:45 <Evie>   ack, jemler! Hope that turns out OK
Nov 13 19:52:56 <Jemler>   i'm terrified. the last time they worked on my aorta, i ended up paralyzed.
Nov 13 19:53:05 <Eyikl>   good luck
Nov 13 19:53:06 <DesertRose>   I bet.  We'll be thinking good thoughts for you!
Nov 13 19:53:18 <KK>   Yike!  We'll send good thoughts and prayers!
Nov 13 19:53:21 <Jemler>   thanks. until next week.
Nov 13 19:53:26 <DesertRose>   Until then!
Nov 13 19:53:28 <Shiral>   Hope all goes well, Jemler
Nov 13 19:53:29 *   Jemler has quit (Quit: )
Nov 13 19:53:30 <Jerusha>   Every good thought I can think of is yours, Jemler
Nov 13 19:53:43 <Derynifank>   Will be sending lits of good thoughts abd prayers your way
Nov 13 19:53:59 <DesertRose>   Yeah, Publix also carries McVitie's.  My mom has developed a slight addiction to them.  :)
Nov 13 19:54:03 <revanne>   Good thoughts from across the pond
Nov 13 19:54:19 <Evie>   Our Publix has a section of shelves devoted to UK import foods
Nov 13 19:54:22 <DesertRose>   Anglophile, my mother?  Never!
Nov 13 19:54:31 <KK>   They have plain and milk chocolate coated, but not dark chocolate.  Bumemr!
Nov 13 19:54:48 <Evie>   It's a small section, but that's the only local store I know that has a UK foods section.
Nov 13 19:54:54 <DesertRose>   Yeah, the locations around here do too, Evie.
Nov 13 19:54:57 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I miss those too. I'll have to look for them here.
Nov 13 19:55:15 <Shiral>   Nothing to be lost by asking the store to stock them
Nov 13 19:55:18 <revanne>   Dark chocolate digestives are an addictive substance
Nov 13 19:55:32 <KK>   Cameron first alerted us to their presence in Walmart--and that was in Oklahoma.
Nov 13 19:55:47 <DesertRose>   When you go down into central Florida, there are some Publix locations with an entire AISLE of UK import foods, because a LOT of UK expats have holiday homes there or have straight-up moved there.
Nov 13 19:55:50 <Jerusha>   Dark chocolate anything is addictive
Nov 13 19:55:50 <KK>   I love dark chocolate digestives.
Nov 13 19:56:01 <KK>   Yes.
Nov 13 19:56:04 <Evie>   I just got done watching the 10 episodes of The Crown that have made it to Netflix thus far
Nov 13 19:56:27 <KK>   For me, milk chocolate is not worth the calories.  I wan walk right by it.
Nov 13 19:56:35 <Jerusha>   The Crown?  I should know what that is
Nov 13 19:56:41 <Shiral>   I've watched through episode 7
Nov 13 19:56:48 <KK>   I've got to find out about Netflix.  I really want to see that.
Nov 13 19:56:59 <Evie>   Miniseries about the early years of the Queen's reign
Nov 13 19:57:02 <DesertRose>   Yeah, the only thing milk chocolate that's worth my time of day is a Snickers bar.  That's the one chocolate anything I've found myself to prefer milk to dark.
Nov 13 19:57:04 <Jerusha>   I milk chocolate bunny at Easter is still good
Nov 13 19:57:14 <KK>   When Cameron & Anna are here for Christmas, I plan to pick their brains.
Nov 13 19:57:15 <Shiral>   Definitely addicting. It's available through netflix. I finally signed up JUST to watch The Crown. KK, it will be RIGHT up your alley. =o)
Nov 13 19:57:19 <The_Bee>   I'm on a one-month Netflix free trial.
Nov 13 19:57:26 <DesertRose>   And a Snickers bar is an occasional treat for me.
Nov 13 19:57:35 <revanne>   Someone on the radio here joked how odd it was they'd called the series after a pub!
Nov 13 19:57:43 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Stam bonbons, milk or dark.
Nov 13 19:58:04 <Evie>   LOL, revanne
Nov 13 19:58:14 <KK>   Doesn't Netflix come thorugh the computer?  Or, how <does> it work?
Nov 13 19:58:28 <DesertRose>   If you have a Smart TV, you can get it through your TV.
Nov 13 19:58:29 <Jerusha>   Internet on your TV I think
Nov 13 19:58:32 <Shiral>   You need to have a Smart TV
Nov 13 19:58:32 <Evie>   We have an internet capable TV, so we get it that way
Nov 13 19:58:33 <DesertRose>   Depends on how new your TV is.
Nov 13 19:58:34 <The_Bee>   Ifound a recipe on-line for peanut-butter and shocolate fudge.
Nov 13 19:58:59 <DesertRose>   But yes, it's an online streaming service.
Nov 13 19:59:00 <Eyikl>   sounds tasty
Nov 13 19:59:08 <Jerusha>   No, no, no peanut butter in chocolate fudge!
Nov 13 19:59:12 <KK>   Our TV is about 4 years old, I think.
Nov 13 19:59:14 <Shiral>   Peanut butter TV fudge? =o)
Nov 13 19:59:18 <DesertRose>   LOL
Nov 13 19:59:22 <The_Bee>   It is. I've brought it to several potlucks.
Nov 13 19:59:23 <Shiral>   It would have to be melty, wouldn't it?
Nov 13 19:59:27 <Shiral>   for streaming
Nov 13 19:59:41 *   DesertRose facepalms.
Nov 13 19:59:42 <Evie>   It might be internet capable.  Ours is several years old but can stream video from Netflix, YouTube, etc.
Nov 13 19:59:48 *   Shiral giggles
Nov 13 19:59:50 <Eyikl>   of course, shiral
Nov 13 20:00:13 <KK>   Well, Cameron & Anna will be able to figure it out.
Nov 13 20:00:17 <DesertRose>   Like as not.
Nov 13 20:00:30 <The_Bee>   I watch netflix on my tv, but it may be on-line also.
Nov 13 20:00:40 <Evie>   But I can also watch Netflix on my computer
Nov 13 20:00:45 <revanne>   But what if a viewer was nut allergic?
Nov 13 20:00:47 <Shiral>   I think you can also watch on the TV or  your tablet
Nov 13 20:00:54 <Shiral>   Or your computer, I mean
Nov 13 20:01:09 <DesertRose>   Yes, you can watch it from any internet-capable device.
Nov 13 20:01:14 <KK>   The TV and any of the computers are nowhere near each other.
Nov 13 20:01:16 <Evie>   any device with an internet connection,, I think
Nov 13 20:01:27 <Shiral>   I'd think it would make the TV sticky to have streaming chocolate peanut butter fudge
Nov 13 20:01:36 <Evie>   Even phones, though that's rather a small screen to watch it on
Nov 13 20:01:39 *   DesertRose removes her shiny new glasses and facepalms again.
Nov 13 20:01:44 <The_Bee>   I prefer tv; my tv chair is more comfortable than my computer chair.
Nov 13 20:01:49 <KK>   How is internet delivered to the TV?  We're on Comcast.
Nov 13 20:02:08 <Eyikl>   That would be a horrible new worry for the allergy-prone.
Nov 13 20:02:13 <KK>   (DR, you got your new glasses!  Hurrah!)
Nov 13 20:02:18 <The_Bee>   I wish I knew, KK. I have comcast too.
Nov 13 20:02:20 <DesertRose>   Yup. I can see again!
Nov 13 20:02:28 <Evie>   Some are able to connect wirelessly.  Others can connect via a cable
Nov 13 20:02:28 <Jerusha>   Excellent, DR
Nov 13 20:02:29 <revanne>   Yay
Nov 13 20:02:31 <Shiral>   I got myself a new TV earlier this year as a birthday present to myself. I'd ONLY meant to be able to watch movies in my actual living room. Then I discovered my old TV wouldn't hook up to it. THEN I bought the new TV
Nov 13 20:02:34 <DesertRose>   I'm also an official old lady with bifocals, LOL!
Nov 13 20:03:07 <Jerusha>   Bifocals do not mean you are an old lady.  Trust me.
Nov 13 20:03:12 <KK>   Well, I"m sure we can sort it, then.  Our Christmas present from Cameron & Anna is a new wireless system for the house--a great present!
Nov 13 20:03:14 <Shiral>   By "it" I mean the DVR player which was originally my present to me.
Nov 13 20:04:03 <Evie>   Nice present!
Nov 13 20:04:13 <Shiral>   I deserved it. =o) Mostly
Nov 13 20:04:40 <KK>   Our old system is very outdated and patchy, so a new one will be very welcome--and tech support in person, to go with it!
Nov 13 20:04:57 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Hurrah for tech support
Nov 13 20:05:02 <Shiral>   But like modern life often is, it led to the expensive complication of needing a new compatible TV. But I will admit, it's nice to be able to watch movies in my livingroom in comfort
Nov 13 20:05:03 <KK>   And he has to give us the password this time.
Nov 13 20:05:19 <Shiral>   I would hope so, KK =o)
Nov 13 20:05:41 <KK>   brb
Nov 13 20:05:58 <DesertRose>   Oh, I'm joking, calling myself an old lady because I now wear bifocals.
Nov 13 20:06:01 <Evie>   We stopped paying for cable and/or satellite TV several years ago. It got to where we couldn't afford paying that much for a zillion channels we almost never watched. So now we just have local channels and Netflix, and haven't missed having all the other channels.
Nov 13 20:06:03 <revanne>   Going to say goodnight.  Nice to catch up with you all and prayers for your Mom KK
Nov 13 20:06:06 <Derynifank>   Check the REMote that came with your tv, Mine had netflix already on it
Nov 13 20:06:12 <DesertRose>   G'night, revanne.
Nov 13 20:06:16 <Shiral>   Night, Revanne
Nov 13 20:06:21 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Good night Revanne
Nov 13 20:06:23 <DesertRose>   No more insomnimonster!  May he go roast himself in the center of the sun!
Nov 13 20:06:27 <Eyikl>   goodnight Revanne
Nov 13 20:06:34 <Evie>   Every once in a while I hear about some show that isn't on Netflix that I want to watch, but if it's available through Amazon, I get it that way
Nov 13 20:06:39 <revanne>   Thanks DR
Nov 13 20:06:39 <Evie>   Goodnight revanne
Nov 13 20:07:01 *   revanne has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Nov 13 20:07:03 <Derynifank>   Good night revanne
Nov 13 20:07:05 <Jerusha>   Night revanne
Nov 13 20:07:26 <Evie>   ouch, yeah, you kind of need to know your own passwords!
Nov 13 20:07:47 <Shiral>   Or you'll end up forever frustrated
Nov 13 20:07:52 <DesertRose>   Yeah, passwords are important.
Nov 13 20:07:52 <Jerusha>   I have way too many passwords
Nov 13 20:08:41 <KK>   back
Nov 13 20:08:44 <DesertRose>   WB
Nov 13 20:08:45 <Eyikl>   I agree Jerusha. It's annoying when you have to think up a new password for every site
Nov 13 20:08:49 <Jerusha>   WB KK
Nov 13 20:08:51 <Shiral>   I have a whole book of user names and passwords for various online stuff
Nov 13 20:08:56 <Evie>   Though I've started using a password manager to make my life easier.  It stores my passwords to everything, so I really only have to memorize one password (the one to get into my password manager) if I need to look up any of the other ones. And it automatically plugs the password into websites for me, or memorizes new ones.
Nov 13 20:09:19 <KK>   I'm thinking about one of those.
Nov 13 20:09:36 <DesertRose>   I have one of those, and it will even randomly generate (and then remember) passwords for you of complete gibberish that is hard to guess.
Nov 13 20:09:46 <Evie>   It's really made my life easier, especially for those websites I only check occasionally and can never remember the password to.
Nov 13 20:09:56 <The_Bee>   My computer saves my password. Problem is, if I'm on a public computer it's harder to remember my passwords.
Nov 13 20:10:03 <DesertRose>   Yeah.
Nov 13 20:10:06 <Derynifank>   Sounds good
Nov 13 20:10:10 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Me too. I've been using the memo pad app on my phone, protected by the gesture Coke.
Nov 13 20:10:20 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Oops gesture lock
Nov 13 20:10:24 <Eyikl>   I don't like the idea of add-ons that memorizes or store passwords for you, or don't let you log out.
Nov 13 20:10:25 <DesertRose>   I'm so seldom on a computer not my own that that isn't much of an issue for me, but it is a thing.
Nov 13 20:10:31 <Evie>   Mine will do that if you want it to generate passwords, but I personally prefer pass phrases that I can easily remember, but that others would have a hard time guessing.
Nov 13 20:10:36 <DesertRose>   Yeah.
Nov 13 20:11:01 <DesertRose>   My mom used to make up a phrase with at least one number in it and use the first letter of each word in the phrase with the numeric character for the number.
Nov 13 20:11:36 <DesertRose>   Like, Carys will be three years old in December becomes "Cwb3yoiD"
Nov 13 20:11:51 <KK>   That random generator thingie is what's on our wifi right now--and if something, like my tablet, gets updated, the password is no longer valid.  I now can't order e-books to my tablet.  And Scott's tablet has never been initiated into the secrets of our wifi.  Hopefullly, Cameron will sort all of that when he's here.
Nov 13 20:11:57 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I've tried random sounding ones like the experts advise, but then I cannot recall them again.
Nov 13 20:11:58 <DesertRose>   That was just random, I don't actually use that anywhere.
Nov 13 20:12:36 <KK>   It's a great mystery.
Nov 13 20:12:42 <Eyikl>   thI've never had much luck with passcodes.
Nov 13 20:12:43 <DesertRose>   Computers can be.
Nov 13 20:12:59 <Evie>   I use phrases like "3SickSheepDanceMerrilyOnTheBed"  (Again, just made that one up on the spot, but it's something I can visualize and remember.)
Nov 13 20:13:12 <Jerusha>   If it is complicated enough to be safe, you will not remember it
Nov 13 20:13:26 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Exactly my trouble Jerusha
Nov 13 20:13:32 <DesertRose>   Yeah :(
Nov 13 20:13:38 <Derynifank>   I like the sheep
Nov 13 20:13:43 <Eyikl>   Must be a strange sickness if the sheep are merry
Nov 13 20:13:57 <Jerusha>   Do not want sick sheep on my bed
Nov 13 20:13:59 <DesertRose>   Maybe they're sick because they're merry as in drunk?
Nov 13 20:14:00 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Medicine made them giddy?
Nov 13 20:14:05 <Shiral>   If you can have mad cow, why not happy sheep?
Nov 13 20:14:13 <Evie>   I started making pass phrases that way ever since reading a tech article that showed those passwords are often as strong or even stronger than the hard to memorize sort.
Nov 13 20:14:41 <DesertRose>   Although using "merry" to mean "drunk" is a bit archaic and I think also a bit of a Britishism to boot.
Nov 13 20:15:27 <KK>   Evie, just before I check out, any new clothes or furniture for the Littles this week?
Nov 13 20:15:40 <Evie>   Chances are, even though you are using actual words, no one is going to guess the phrase "Mom81Purple Coyote."  Unless, of course, your mom actually ate a purple coyote and they heard about it.  :-D
Nov 13 20:15:50 <DesertRose>   LOL
Nov 13 20:16:01 <Eyikl>   XKCD approves (https://xkcd.com/936/), though a remember hearing a TED talk that didn't think passcodes were safer than passwords
Nov 13 20:16:03 <DesertRose>   If your mom ate a purple coyote, she was probably smoking something GOOD!
Nov 13 20:16:03 <KK>   I like that one.
Nov 13 20:16:34 <DesertRose>   Or if she THOUGHT she ate a purple coyote.
Nov 13 20:16:36 <Evie>   Nada.  I had one of those weeks where I worked full time and had something happening every night.  :-(  But in theory my job is nearly over. Friday was to be my last day, but the new girl is sick, so I'm subbing for her tomorrow.
Nov 13 20:16:42 <DesertRose>   Unless it was a purple coyote cookie or something.  :P
Nov 13 20:17:09 <Eyikl>   Or Coyote is playing tricks again.
Nov 13 20:17:11 <Jerusha>   Are  you happy to not be working there again, Evie?
Nov 13 20:17:21 <KK>   Well, maybe there will be some more subbing as the days go on.
Nov 13 20:17:27 <DesertRose>   Coyote in SW mythology was/is good at that.
Nov 13 20:17:33 <Evie>   I have been asked to make doll clothes for someone for her grandchildren's Christmas gifts, but I'm still waiting to find out more about what she wants and if she plans on paying for them or expects them all for free, in which case I won't have time since I'm looking for paying work right now.  :-(
Nov 13 20:18:04 <Jerusha>   Any possible luck with temporary Michael
Nov 13 20:18:13 <Jerusha>   Christmas hiring?
Nov 13 20:18:20 <Evie>   I like working there and I definitely like and need the paycheck, but I won't miss the early waking, the long commute, and the long work days
Nov 13 20:18:25 <Jerusha>   (pesky enter key)
Nov 13 20:18:41 <DesertRose>   Okay, you know you read too much Deryni when you read "temporary Michael" and think, "Archangels aren't temporary!"
Nov 13 20:18:59 <Jerusha>   :)
Nov 13 20:19:02 <Evie>   Haven't checked into it again since I suspect any place doing seasonal hiring will especially want people to work on Christmas week, and we have plans to visit my folks in Texas that week
Nov 13 20:19:03 <DesertRose>   :D
Nov 13 20:19:04 <BalanceTheEnergies>   :)
Nov 13 20:19:16 <Evie>   LOL, DR!
Nov 13 20:19:18 <Jerusha>   Understandable, Evie
Nov 13 20:19:20 <Eyikl>   :)
Nov 13 20:19:35 <KK>   We're happily home for the holidays.
Nov 13 20:19:43 <DesertRose>   Yay for home!
Nov 13 20:19:54 <The_Bee>   I go to my sister's in Vermont.
Nov 13 20:20:01 <Derynifank>   Hope something works out Evie
Nov 13 20:20:06 <Evie>   So right now I'm more looking into other ways I can make some money without having to commit to being in state during that week, since I'd hate for Mom to lose her airfare
Nov 13 20:20:29 <DesertRose>   I'm planning to go with Mom and DD to Charleston for Thanksgiving, but Christmas will probably be here in Florida.
Nov 13 20:20:54 <Jerusha>   Christmas will be in the cold north for us
Nov 13 20:20:56 <Evie>   (She's paying for the plane tickets as our Christmas present, for the kids anyway.  DH and I are thinking of driving there and back and picking up deliveries en route to make some extra cash.)
Nov 13 20:21:08 <DesertRose>   Have a snowball fight for me, Jerusha.
Nov 13 20:21:11 <The_Bee>   Who's in Charleston< DR?
Nov 13 20:21:13 <KK>   Yep.  And on that note, I'll say goodnight.  I rescued some potatoes from the cottage, that were about to sprout eyes, so I need to do something with them for supper.  Stuffed with baked beans, I think, and maybe with some cheese melted on top.  (All that earlier talk of cheese.)  We have extra sharp cheddar.
Nov 13 20:21:15 <DesertRose>   That's the one thing about snow that seems remotely fun to me.
Nov 13 20:21:18 <Shiral>   Night, KK
Nov 13 20:21:20 <DesertRose>   G'night, KK!
Nov 13 20:21:29 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Good night KK
Nov 13 20:21:30 <DesertRose>   Will we see you next week or is that debatable?
Nov 13 20:21:35 <Shiral>   Hope next week goes smoothly for Margaret, given the cicumstances
Nov 13 20:21:37 <The_Bee>   bye KK. Glad you came and have a betterweek
Nov 13 20:21:37 <DesertRose>   Thanks for coming to see us!
Nov 13 20:21:44 <Eyikl>   goodnight KK. That sounds tasty
Nov 13 20:21:52 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Ta1
Nov 13 20:21:53 <Jerusha>   Have a good week, KK (lobs a snowball just because)
Nov 13 20:21:57 <KK>   Should make it next week.  I'll let you know if I can't.
Nov 13 20:21:59 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Oops Ta!
Nov 13 20:21:59 <Evie>   Goodnight, KK!  Hope your Mom has a swift recovery
Nov 13 20:22:11 <Shiral>   Night KK and enjoy the baked potatoes
Nov 13 20:22:14 <KK>   Thank you, all.
Nov 13 20:22:14 <DesertRose>   Okay, sounds like a plan.  Best wishes to your mom for recovery and safe travels to you!
Nov 13 20:22:26 <DesertRose>   G'night!
Nov 13 20:22:27 <Evie>   have a safe trip
Nov 13 20:22:32 *   KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
Nov 13 20:22:46 <DesertRose>   Bee, my mom's family is in Charleston.
Nov 13 20:22:47 <KK>   Nighters.
Nov 13 20:22:52 <Derynifank>   Battery getting low so saying goodnight  now. Have a good week
Nov 13 20:22:54 *   KK has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
