Oct 16 19:09:59 <Jerusha>   Hi Jared
Oct 16 19:10:00 <DesertRose>   Hi Jared
Oct 16 19:10:01 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Hello Jared
Oct 16 19:10:37 <Jemler>   jared, aren't you afraid miss parker will find you?
Oct 16 19:10:50 <Jared>   Hello, all. I've been meaning to drop by for a while, but after a  discussion with Evie about "Balance of Power", I decided to drop by again.
Oct 16 19:11:13 <Jared>   Jemier, I don't know who Miss Parker is.
Oct 16 19:11:19 <Evie>   I saw you stopped by the forum.  I wasn't sure if you were the same Jared who used to pop into chat semi-regularly a while back, or a new Jared.
Oct 16 19:11:28 <Jemler>   you never watched 'the pretender'?
Oct 16 19:11:31 <Jared>   Same one.
Oct 16 19:11:35 <Evie>   OK
Oct 16 19:11:39 <Jared>   No, Jernier, never did.
Oct 16 19:11:53 <Jerusha>   Who was Miss Parker in the Pretender?
Oct 16 19:12:08 <Jerusha>   Oh wait, I was thinking of another show
Oct 16 19:12:11 <Shiral>   Hi Jared
Oct 16 19:12:13 <Evie>   I'm in the SCA; I'm used to learning people by more than one name, so what's yet another?  ;-)
Oct 16 19:12:17 <Shiral>   And hello KK
Oct 16 19:12:19 <Jared>   My name actually comes from my SCA name, Jared Blaydeaux
Oct 16 19:12:47 <Derynifank>   What is SCA?
Oct 16 19:12:50 <Evie>   Ah, OK.  Not Jared McLain, then.  *hiding sharp pointy sticks just in case*
Oct 16 19:13:04 <Jemler>   she was the agenty the center sent to bring jarod back after he ecsaped. kjarod was a pretender, a genius who could become whatever he wanted. a doctor, lawyer, teacher, whatever.
Oct 16 19:13:07 <Jared>   No, I am NOT Jared McLain.
Oct 16 19:13:10 <Evie>   Society for Creative Anachronism.  It's a medieval re-creation society

Oct 16 19:13:33 <Jerusha>   Well that's good, because you are stil with us
Oct 16 19:13:40 <Derynifank>   Hi Bee
Oct 16 19:13:41 <Jerusha>   Hi Bee
Oct 16 19:13:48 <Jared>   Derynifank -- I joined it in 1972, after Katherine invited me to one of their bardic revels at the World Science Convention in Los Angeles.
Oct 16 19:13:48 <Evie>   Hi Bee
Oct 16 19:14:06 <Jared>   Hello, Bee
Oct 16 19:14:16 <Derynifank>   Siubds really cool
Oct 16 19:14:20 <Jerusha>   That is a while back, Jared
Oct 16 19:14:27 <Derynifank>   Sounds
Oct 16 19:14:28 <Evie>   I just attended the Coronation of a young man who was around 8 when I first introduced him and his mom to the SCA.  I feel old.  :-D
Oct 16 19:14:41 <Jerusha>   Silly you
Oct 16 19:14:51 <Jemler>   here granny. have some tea.
Oct 16 19:15:02 <Jared>   It's been a few years, Jerusha -- since I  was thin and my hair wasn't.
Oct 16 19:15:09 <DesertRose>   Hi BEe

Oct 16 19:15:18 <Jerusha>   \:)
Oct 16 19:15:24 <Evie>   It's lots of fun, Derynifank.  You can read more about the international organization at www.sca.org
Oct 16 19:15:26 <DesertRose>   Dratted typos
Oct 16 19:15:37 <Shiral>   Hi Bee
Oct 16 19:15:50 <Jared>   Isn't there a spell somewhere for typos?
Oct 16 19:15:53 <Jerusha>   Typos have become a familiar part of my life
Oct 16 19:15:53 <Derynifank>   I definitely will
Oct 16 19:15:59 <KK>   Lots of us were active in the SCA.  Some still are.
Oct 16 19:16:10 <Evie>   I would think that typos would be anti-spells.  Think about it.  :-D
Oct 16 19:16:11 <Jerusha>   Some, alas, have never been
Oct 16 19:16:12 <Jemler>   yes there is. i believe it's called a checker.
Oct 16 19:16:24 *   Shiral snaps fingers and produces a birthday cake for KK
Oct 16 19:16:38 <Jared>   There just aren't that many people living in my area -- I moved from the L.A. area to Kentucky 6 years ago to get married.
Oct 16 19:16:41 <Evie>   I also put birthday cake and ice cream at the four quarters earlier
Oct 16 19:16:41 <Jerusha>   Jerusha provides ice cream
Oct 16 19:16:45 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Same here Jerusha
Oct 16 19:16:51 *   DesertRose snaps fingers and produces a sundae bar with every imaginable flavor of ice cream and every topping one might want.
Oct 16 19:16:52 *   Jemler puts out hot, mulled wine.
Oct 16 19:16:54 <Evie>   There are groups in Kentucky.
Oct 16 19:17:19 <Jemler>   the hatfields and mccoys?
Oct 16 19:17:27 <Evie>   Anywhere near south KY, by any chance?  There's a thriving shire in Clarksville, TN, just over the border.
Oct 16 19:17:31 <Jerusha>   Jerusha looks for all of the chocolate toppings
Oct 16 19:17:41 *   Shiral snaps fingers and decorates chat room with the banners of Gwynedd's noble families, with the Haldane Lion closest to the cake table.
Oct 16 19:17:42 <Jared>   There are, but the two closest are pretty much ONLY interested in fighting, which I can't do any more. The nearest active ones are Louisville and Cincinnati.

Oct 16 19:17:53 <Shiral>   Hi Aerlys
Oct 16 19:17:54 <DesertRose>   My daughter is (per rumor) descended from either the Hatfields or the McCoys, on her bio-dad's side.
Oct 16 19:17:54 <The_Bee>   hi aerlys
Oct 16 19:17:59 <DesertRose>   Hi Aerlys!

Oct 16 19:18:21 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Hello Aerlys
Oct 16 19:18:26 <Aerlys>   Hi everyone!
Oct 16 19:18:34 <Jerusha>   Jerusha lofts a singing fish at Jemler
Oct 16 19:18:34 <Jared>   My wife's folks are from right here in Berea, and her dad's from Louisville.
Oct 16 19:18:47 <DesertRose>   It having been over twenty years since I last spoke to my ex husband, I can no longer remember which family.
Oct 16 19:18:49 <Derynifank>   Hi Aerlys
Oct 16 19:20:13 <Jerusha>   Any big birthday plans, KK?
Oct 16 19:20:47 <Jared>   I actually chat with my ex-wife on facebook fairly regularly. It wasn't an entirely amicable parting, but we can both see where we went wrong.
Oct 16 19:20:56 <Evie>   I looked into going to college in Berea, since there was a college there at the time at which all students were guaranteed workstudy aid to pay for tuition/living costs, and I needed the financial assistance. Though ironically it turned out we made just barely too much for me to qualify to go there, which may be the only time in my life that has ever happened.  :-)
Oct 16 19:21:24 <Jared>   It IS a wonderful arts school.
Oct 16 19:21:45 <Jared>    . . . and there are lots of active art studios of various media in town.
Oct 16 19:22:02 <KK>   Nothing too big.  We'll go out to dinner that evening.
Oct 16 19:22:11 <DesertRose>   Jared, my split with my ex was...very much not amicable, and a few months after the divorce was finalized, he disappeared, already in debt to our daughter with his child support payments, and we've seen nothing of him since.  She was just short of three years old the last time we saw him; she just turned 24 in September.
Oct 16 19:22:14 <Jared>   My wife was editorial cartoonist for the local paper for 12 years, till they decided she was too progressive and controversial for them.
Oct 16 19:22:14 <Jerusha>   Dinner out is always good
Oct 16 19:22:36 <Evie>   I probably would have enjoyed that, then, though as it turned out, I ended up going to a university here that I absolutely loved, and they managed to make it work out for me via Pell Grant and various other types of financial aid.
Oct 16 19:22:59 <DesertRose>   Any supper you don't have to cook and don't have to tidy up after is good by me, KK!  :D
Oct 16 19:23:02 <Jared>   DesertRose -- I'm so sorry to hear that. Men like that should have their procreative organs revoked.
Oct 16 19:23:43 <Jared>   My foster son's "sperm donor" defrauded him out of his Pell Grants for college, by apply under his name.
Oct 16 19:23:48 <Jerusha>   My DH is very good about cleaning up after Sunday dinner so I can do chat
Oct 16 19:23:58 <Evie>   Jass says to check with Geillis on how to revoke said permissions, DR....  ;-)
Oct 16 19:24:10 <Jared>   I do 90% of the cooking, and my wife does the cleanup.
Oct 16 19:24:11 <Jerusha>   Dear Gellis
Oct 16 19:24:19 <Derynifank>   Goid idea
Oct 16 19:24:35 <Derynifank>   Good
Oct 16 19:24:40 <DesertRose>   Yeah, well.  Stuff happens, and it's long since over now.  I lost the capacity to be angry about it a long time ago (probably helped by the fact that my parents were able to pick up the financial slack my ex left behind).  It's just a very bad decision I made a long time ago, out of which I got an amazing daughter.
Oct 16 19:24:48 <Evie>   Works for me.  Cooking was a large part of my DH's courtship of me.  :-D
Oct 16 19:25:13 <DesertRose>   One cooks, the other cleans seems fair to me.
Oct 16 19:25:33 <Jared>   DR -- I'm glad you got the amazing daughter. Thanks to a godson who decided he'd rather be my son, I have an amazing son.
Oct 16 19:25:36 <Aerlys>   DD2 does much of the cooking now, mainly because he is always hungry
Oct 16 19:25:46 <DesertRose>   :)
Oct 16 19:25:59 <Jerusha>   Hungry is a good motivator
Oct 16 19:26:07 <Derynifank>   Mine doesn't cook but he does liad and run the dishwasger
Oct 16 19:26:20 <Jared>   I just have to watch portion control. Tanya is about half my size.
Oct 16 19:26:34 <Jerusha>   Dishwasher are my salvation
Oct 16 19:26:42 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Mine too Jerusha
Oct 16 19:26:44 <DesertRose>   Oh, speaking of my amazing DD, she is a nursing student, and earlier this week she had to take a test that is a big test she must take in multiple parts over the next year-ish and then must take a cumulative final, on which she must score 850 out of 1000.
Oct 16 19:27:03 <Jerusha>   How did she do?
Oct 16 19:27:11 <Derynifank>   I don't know how i did without one fir so long
Oct 16 19:27:12 <Jared>   My wife is odd -- she actually LIKES washing dishes. Of course, with the house we moved into in August, she has a beautiful view.
Oct 16 19:27:17 <Evie>   I read that as 850 out of 100 at first, and wondered if that was a test in New Math....  ;-)
Oct 16 19:27:23 <DesertRose>   On this component test, she made 969 out of 1000; she missed only one question out of 30, and she was the only person in her class to score over 900.
Oct 16 19:27:37 <Evie>   Wow, great job!
Oct 16 19:27:37 <Jerusha>   Woo hoo, DR
Oct 16 19:27:47 <Jared>   Wow! Can I have HER as a nurse?
Oct 16 19:27:47 <DesertRose>   Yup, I'm pretty darn proud of the Kiddo.
Oct 16 19:27:50 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Brava!
Oct 16 19:27:58 <Shiral>   Well done!
Oct 16 19:28:12 <The_Bee>   very good!
Oct 16 19:28:12 <Derynifank>   Good for her
Oct 16 19:28:36 <Jerusha>   Evie, is your DS still in nursing?
Oct 16 19:28:41 <Evie>   He is
Oct 16 19:28:56 <Jerusha>   Should he be finishing up soon?
Oct 16 19:29:02 <Evie>   I rarely get to see him these days, since when he's not working or in class, he's busy studying
Oct 16 19:29:05 <Jemler>   tellher that when i do this, i get a sharp pain.
Oct 16 19:29:12 <DesertRose>   I was joking with her the evening she had taken the test (the test had been that morning) that her classmates must hate her for skewing the bell curve, and she laughed and said, yeah, maybe, but I also share my study guide for every exam, complete with the page numbers on which the answers may be found on our online study group, so they can't hate me TOO much.  :P
Oct 16 19:29:18 <Jerusha>   Then don't do that, Jemler
Oct 16 19:29:28 <Evie>   I think next year
Oct 16 19:30:04 <Jemler>   did anyone ever see gideon with christopher lambert?
Oct 16 19:30:08 <Jerusha>   Four year course of study?
Oct 16 19:30:25 <Evie>   No, but his first couple of years were pre-nursing
Oct 16 19:31:20 <BalanceTheEnergies>   No Jemler. Never heard of it.
Oct 16 19:31:48 <Derynifank>   I taught nursing fir over 20 yrs It's a hard mwjor
Oct 16 19:31:56 <Derynifank>   Major
Oct 16 19:32:27 <Jerusha>   There is a lot at stake
Oct 16 19:32:42 <Derynifank>   True
Oct 16 19:32:58 <Jemler>   lambert as gideon goes to a nursing home. his aunt can't take care of him any more, and he makes his uncles ass hurt. "He says he has a big pain in his ass whever I'm around." sporry for the language.
Oct 16 19:33:06 *   Aerlys has quit (Quit: CGI:IRC (EOF))
Oct 16 19:33:21 <Jerusha>   Oops, lost Aerlys
Oct 16 19:33:44 <Evie>   UAB apparently has a very tough program.  DS has told me stories of friends being dismissed from the program just over minor dress code violations (wrong color socks), and he had to repeat a class he was getting straight A's in because he blew a question on the final lab exam and ended up needing to retake the class. He knew the answer, but lost focus momentarily and wrote the answer down with some detail wrong.
Oct 16 19:33:46 <BalanceTheEnergies>   The actor's name seems vaguely familiar.
Oct 16 19:34:08 <Derynifank>   Wish i coukd be a healer like Alaric and Duncan
Oct 16 19:34:10 <Jerusha>   That seems a bit harsh, Evie
Oct 16 19:34:12 <Evie>   They only get one chance to re-do a class.  No pressure.
Oct 16 19:34:44 <Shiral>   The wrong answer, I can understand, since getting something wrong on the job could have serious consequences for the patient. But...the socks????
Oct 16 19:34:49 <KK>   Wow, dress code violations.  What do they need to wear?
Oct 16 19:34:57 <Derynifank>   That sounds really extreme,
Oct 16 19:35:08 <DesertRose>   DD's nursing program is pretty high-pressure too, although I don't think they're quite so strict on the dress code violations.
Oct 16 19:35:10 <KK>   One must wonder whether there was something else going on.
Oct 16 19:35:13 <Jemler>   he also played in highlander and as tarzan.
Oct 16 19:35:25 <Evie>   It's crazy harsh, but since their nursing school has the reputation for being one of the best in the area, if not THE best, they can be ultra-competitive and ultra-picky because there are always lots of other applicants waiting to get in
Oct 16 19:35:50 <DesertRose>   Any score under 85% is failing, and DD's blue hair had to go back to SOME color found naturally in hair, although it didn't necessarily have to be HER natural hair color.
Oct 16 19:35:58 <Jerusha>   At the end of the day, graduation will bring good rewards
Oct 16 19:36:08 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I'll say. Sock colour? Then again, I read someone lost a lawsuit over being fired for her dreadlocks.
Oct 16 19:36:23 <Derynifank>   But reputationnis based more on nclex scores than dress
Oct 16 19:36:39 <Evie>   I don't know the full dress code, but I know he has to wear scrubs and a white lab coat, certain types of socks are allowed/not allowed, and even in the dead of winter they can't wear a winter coat over the scrubs/lab coat for some sort of sanitary reasons.
Oct 16 19:36:53 <DesertRose>   Honestly, we (the family) are no longer sure exactly WHAT DD's natural hair color is, because no one's seen it in a good decade.
Oct 16 19:37:10 <Jerusha>   I guess they freeze dry the students
Oct 16 19:37:10 <Evie>   LOL, DR!
Oct 16 19:37:21 <KK>   That makes sense, re winter coats.  Germs could be carried in.
Oct 16 19:37:27 <Evie>   DS had a few mornings when he felt freeze dried
Oct 16 19:37:48 <Jared>   Derynifank, I enjoyed Evie's "Balance of Power" precisely because the difference between physicians and Healers was made clear.
Oct 16 19:37:50 <KK>   I guess one does layers under the scrubs.
Oct 16 19:37:50 <Jerusha>   I think up here they get to wear coats.  :)
Oct 16 19:37:51 <DesertRose>   Once upon a time, it was that too-dark-to-be-blonde-but-too-light-to-be-brown shade, but who knows?
Oct 16 19:38:03 <Evie>   Since, like on many campuses, where you park is not necessarily near where you go to class or lab
Oct 16 19:38:28 <Jerusha>   Hopefully in the same city
Oct 16 19:38:35 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Hooray for modern high-tech base layers!
Oct 16 19:38:49 <Evie>   I think DD's natural color is still dark brown, but at the moment it's more brownish-reddish-pinkish-blonde.  :-D
Oct 16 19:39:30 <Derynifank>   I coukd see no coats onnthe units but not outside
Oct 16 19:40:27 <Evie>   The discipline and competitiveness have been good for him, though. He's the sort who needs to be challenged and usually thrives on it
Oct 16 19:40:52 <Jerusha>   Good for him
Oct 16 19:40:56 <Evie>   If he's not challenged and kept on his toes, his grades drop because he gets bored and complacent, but if he's being challenged, he stays in top form.
Oct 16 19:41:27 <Derynifank>   Actually i think they can only control what they wear in the clinical areas
Oct 16 19:42:55 <Evie>   This darn cat hasn't got the memo that I don't need an armwarmer.
Oct 16 19:43:23 <Jerusha>   He/she didn't "cat"ch the message?
Oct 16 19:43:28 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Oh dear Evie.
Oct 16 19:43:28 <Derynifank>   He's "helping"
Oct 16 19:43:37 <Evie>   He's incatpussitating
Oct 16 19:43:43 <KK>   Yay, Luke!
Oct 16 19:44:00 <Evie>   LOL, yes, you could tell which one just by the description, couldn't you?  :-D
Oct 16 19:44:13 <Jemler>   luke doesn't listen to litterbox gossip.
Oct 16 19:44:21 <Jerusha>   Jerusha give Luke a virtual scritch
Oct 16 19:44:33 <Derynifank>   Hard to work with a cat on your arm,, Just ask Alaric
Oct 16 19:44:40 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I'm rather glad I don't have wifi in the flat, so that Wimsey isn't kicking my tablet to the floor as I try to type.
Oct 16 19:44:41 <Evie>   Gigi rarely bothers me during chat, and when she does, she doesn't lie across my arms, she just bobs her head under one of my hands and demands I scratch her NOW.
Oct 16 19:44:51 *   Jemler offers luke some catnip.

Oct 16 19:47:01 <Derynifank>   Sometimes i think mibbit is obsessed
Oct 16 19:47:23 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Obsessed? Or possessed?
Oct 16 19:47:33 <Jerusha>   All of the above
Oct 16 19:47:33 <DesertRose>   Mibbit has an attitude; some nights it's in a decent mood and some nights it's contrary as all get-out.
Oct 16 19:48:07 <Aerlys>   I'm not even using mibbit.
Oct 16 19:48:14 <Evie>   LOL! DH has been doing deliveries, and has just informed me that he will be en route home tomorrow for a brief stop before continuing on to Atlanta with a dog passenger, so I guess we will be a doggie B&B for the night.
Oct 16 19:48:15 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I think it has bounced all of us at one time or another.
Oct 16 19:48:21 <Aerlys>   Evil amphibian that he is
Oct 16 19:48:27 <DesertRose>   Oh, the cats should just LOVE that.
Oct 16 19:48:34 *   Jared has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Oct 16 19:49:11 <JaredB>   Must've been some OTHER Jared
Oct 16 19:49:12 <Derynifank>   Bet mibbit struck again
Oct 16 19:49:17 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Whose dog?
Oct 16 19:49:36 <The_Bee>   The other Jared is still here
Oct 16 19:49:42 <DesertRose>   Which Jared was the Evil Twin and which was the Good Twin?
Oct 16 19:49:56 <Evie>   There is a part of our garage we used to partition off into a cold-weather kennel when we had Pixie, so he's probably planning on using that.  Unless the dog is trained to sleep in a crate kennel, in which case I guess the bedroom will do.
Oct 16 19:50:01 <JaredB>   That  all depends, now, doesn't it, on your definitions of good and evil.
Oct 16 19:50:14 <Jemler>   will the dog be able to give directions if he gets lost?
Oct 16 19:50:15 <DesertRose>   Ah, excellent answer.  :)
Oct 16 19:50:25 <Evie>   Dunno.  Whoever bought him from the person arranging the delivery
Oct 16 19:50:39 <Aerlys>   He delivers dogs?
Oct 16 19:51:03 <Jemler>   the stork was probably scared.
Oct 16 19:51:56 <Evie>   He's doing deliveries through something called UShip.  People needing something delivered somewhere post what it is they need delivered, where it has to be picked up, where it needs to go and by what date, and drivers bid on the job.  Whoever wins the bid makes the final arrangements and delivers whatever it is.  Usually it's been furniture, carpets, equipment, etc.
Oct 16 19:52:17 <Evie>   But in this case, it's a very sweet pit bull named Chaos.  :-D
Oct 16 19:52:20 <Jemler>   no drugs?
Oct 16 19:52:31 <Jerusha>   Now that is an interesting name
Oct 16 19:52:37 <Evie>   LOL!  No, Jemler, he's not THAT type of courier!  :-D
Oct 16 19:52:38 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I'll say.
Oct 16 19:52:50 *   Shiral has quit (Client closed the connection)
Oct 16 19:52:59 <JaredB>   I wish I'd discovered them before I had some stuff shipped out here from California -- 3  weeks late, they were, and wanted to charge me extra over and above the quote.
Oct 16 19:53:02 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Though my cousins used to have a Doberman named Satan
Oct 16 19:53:04 <Derynifank>   A sweet fog named chaos. Sounds like an oxymoron
Oct 16 19:53:12 <Evie>   It's sort of like Uber, but for delivering things from one place to another.
Oct 16 19:53:16 <Jemler>   but he may never know what's in a package he is delivering.
Oct 16 19:53:37 <Evie>   LOL, Derynifank, that is EXACTLY what I told DH!
Oct 16 19:54:13 <Evie>   No, because he doesn't usually pick up wrapped packages, so he can see exactly what he's picking up
Oct 16 19:54:26 <Jemler>   good.
Oct 16 19:54:31 <Jerusha>   Yes, good
Oct 16 19:55:05 <Evie>   Actually, I don't think he's ever had a pick up in a container.  It's usually been things like a dining room carpet, chairs, artwork, a table, stuff like that.
Oct 16 19:55:10 <Jerusha>   Didn't DS deliver pizzas before?
Oct 16 19:55:26 <Jemler>   to atlanta?
Oct 16 19:55:34 <Evie>   No.  DD worked in a pizza restaurant, but not doing deliveries.
Oct 16 19:55:39 <Jerusha>   Though I suppose delivering a pizza on a table is not a bad thing
Oct 16 19:55:43 <KK>   That sounds like a service that definitely fills a niche.
Oct 16 19:55:47 <Evie>   She actually has a new job now starting tomorrow
Oct 16 19:55:47 <DesertRose>   I delivered pizzas, but it was 20 years ago
Oct 16 19:56:09 <Jerusha>   What type of job, Evie
Oct 16 19:56:21 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Not a bad niche market actually. Sell stuff like that on eBay and avoid FedEx or UPS rates.
Oct 16 19:56:21 *   Aerlys has quit (Quit: CGI:IRC (EOF))
Oct 16 19:56:43 <Jerusha>   Darn, lost Aerlys again
Oct 16 19:56:44 <Evie>   Yes, it's great if you can't afford shipping costs on, say, a Barbie house that would cost $100 to ship, but someone heading in that direction is willing to do the job for less.
Oct 16 19:56:54 <Evie>   To pick a not so random example.  ;-)
Oct 16 19:57:17 <JaredB>   I am, thanks to the damage on my spine inflicted by the Army, essentially retired. At least it's a steady income.
Oct 16 19:58:07 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Yep. I was looking at buying an old steamer trunk to use as furniture, but the listing said "local pickup only" and I don't have a car. The thing was in OH or WV or some such.
Oct 16 19:58:23 <DesertRose>   Oh, that would be cool, BalanceTheEnergies
Oct 16 19:58:28 <Evie>   What type of job did DD get?  She's working in a local restaurant, currently as hostess but hoping to train for server soon, so she can save up those tips.  She wants to go to culinary school, but has to earn her way.
Oct 16 19:58:54 <Jerusha>   Hopefully she gets lots of tips
Oct 16 19:58:57 <DesertRose>   Not sure how it would work for air travel, but if you don't travel by plane much, then I guess that wouldn't be much of a consideration.
Oct 16 19:59:02 <JaredB>   Someone -gave- my wife a beautiful old steamer trunk when we moved into our new house. It promptly became the linen closet.
Oct 16 19:59:41 <Evie>   Cool!
Oct 16 19:59:54 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I thought so too DR. I thought it would work as a bedside table since my bed takes up nearly the whole room.
Oct 16 19:59:54 <DesertRose>   That is awesome, JaredB
Oct 16 20:00:53 <DesertRose>   I have something a little offbeat for a bedside table too.  Mine is a victrola stand that was given to me by my stepdad's late mother (years before she passed, she was just getting rid of some stuff and thought I might like it, which I very much do).
Oct 16 20:01:21 <Jerusha>   Cool
Oct 16 20:01:21 <JaredB>   Mine is an oak  bookcase; my wife's is an oak table her grandfather made.
Oct 16 20:02:03 <DesertRose>   I love that sort of thing.
Oct 16 20:02:07 <Jerusha>   Alas, I must go. Have a very wonderful birthday, KK
Oct 16 20:02:17 <Jemler>   nite jerusha
Oct 16 20:02:17 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Good night Jerusha
Oct 16 20:02:18 <The_Bee>   My books go anywhere I can find room for them.
Oct 16 20:02:22 <DesertRose>   My parents have a wooden rocking chair in the living room that was built by one of my stepdad's ancestors.
Oct 16 20:02:22 <KK>   Thank you, Jerusha.
Oct 16 20:02:26 *   Jerusha has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Oct 16 20:02:28 <The_Bee>   bye jerusha
Oct 16 20:02:29 <Evie>   Mine is a small wooden chest that I use as a keepsake box for precious mementos like my children's high school graduation programmes, my grandmother's poetry, Dad's old school photos, etc.
Oct 16 20:02:33 <DesertRose>   Missed Jerusha.
Oct 16 20:02:45 <DesertRose>   I can't remember which ancestor, it was possibly his great-grandfather.
Oct 16 20:03:27 <JaredB>   I had to have someone build us five new bookcases when we moved, to handle the overflow from the old place.
Oct 16 20:04:04 <DesertRose>   :)
Oct 16 20:04:06 <BalanceTheEnergies>   A lot of my books are still in boxes, sad to say.
Oct 16 20:04:28 <Evie>   DH managed to acquire several old wooden bookcases from a library sale.  We kept some and sold the rest.  He was taking them off the hands of a friend who thought she was ordering something like 2 bookcases and accidentally ended up with 20!
Oct 16 20:04:39 <JaredB>   I still have some due to come from California in the next few weeks. I hadn't had room to move them here until we bought the house.
Oct 16 20:04:59 <Derynifank>   Sone accident!
Oct 16 20:05:14 <Jemler>   well, i've had a long day, and i have an early one tomorrow. so i'll say goodnight.
Oct 16 20:05:20 <DesertRose>   Night, Jemler
Oct 16 20:05:25 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Good night Jemler
Oct 16 20:05:36 <Derynifank>   Night Jemler
Oct 16 20:05:37 <Jemler>   kk, happy birthday.
Oct 16 20:05:42 <KK>   G'night, Jemler.
Oct 16 20:05:49 <KK>   Thanks.
Oct 16 20:05:55 <Evie>   I think she paid something like $200 and assumed that was the price for two of the bookcases, not the entire lot of 20, so she was freaking out because she had no way of transporting 20 bookcases all at once, and called on her friends with trailers to help her get her bookcases home in exchange for getting to take the extras off her hands for something like $10 each.
Oct 16 20:06:07 <Evie>   G'night, Jemler
Oct 16 20:06:15 <Jemler>   nite all
Oct 16 20:06:20 *   Jemler has quit (Quit: )
Oct 16 20:06:24 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Sounds like tha worked out well for all concerned Evie
Oct 16 20:07:04 <Evie>   So my living room now has three new 6' high bookcases replacing the old entertainment center (and allowing me to unbox quite a few books), plus a wooden supply cabinet for craft stuff and a 4' bookcase.  We sold the others.
Oct 16 20:07:06 <DesertRose>   Yeah, sounds a pretty decent deal if you've got space to store such large bookshelves.
Oct 16 20:07:24 <Evie>   Fortunately my MIL had room in her garage for the others until they sold
Oct 16 20:07:55 <JaredB>   We have only a bit over 2000 sq. ft. here, but that's up from 1200 at the old apartment.
Oct 16 20:08:07 <DesertRose>   :)
Oct 16 20:08:28 <JaredB>   That, and the VA has put in a wheelchair ramp for me (that looks like it leads to a ride at Disneyland), and is remodeling my bathroom.
Oct 16 20:08:38 <Evie>   The bookcases are less deep than the old entertainment center, so we actually gained a fair bit of floor space in the living room once we moved them in.
Oct 16 20:08:45 <Derynifank>   Cool
Oct 16 20:09:05 <DesertRose>   Accessibility is great (and not optional).
Oct 16 20:09:19 <BalanceTheEnergies>   No kidding!
Oct 16 20:09:24 *   The_Bee has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Oct 16 20:09:32 <Evie>   Maybe they can install a ferris wheel to go up to the second floor or the attic, if they're going to give you a Disneyland ramp.  ;-)
Oct 16 20:09:45 <JaredB>   HA!
Oct 16 20:09:57 <BalanceTheEnergies>   I'm doing my best to keep my flat despite the rent increase for that very reason.
Oct 16 20:10:20 <JaredB>   We got some amazing furniture on facebook when we moved, from a local "swap meet" group
Oct 16 20:10:33 <Evie>   Cool!
Oct 16 20:10:35 <BalanceTheEnergies>   Hooray!
Oct 16 20:10:56 <DesertRose>   Yay!
Oct 16 20:11:07 <Evie>   I've heard the Birmingham Freecycle is fairly active, though I've only used that group once, and that was several years ago when it was still a Yahoo Group
Oct 16 20:11:09 <JaredB>   I got a tiger oak dining room set from Germany and an appraiser told me was worth 3 times what we paid for it, and a TV cabinet in oak that the family just wanted to get rid of -- for $80.
Oct 16 20:11:29 <JaredB>   Evie, you're in Birmingham? AL?
Oct 16 20:11:34 <Evie>   Yes
Oct 16 20:12:01 <JaredB>   We'll have to make a point to meet when we come down to visit my family, 95% of whom are down there.
Oct 16 20:12:10 <Evie>   Didn't you come into town a year or two ago, but I think our schedules didn't mesh that weekend?
Oct 16 20:12:22 <JaredB>   Something like that.
Oct 16 20:12:24 <Evie>   That would be fun
Oct 16 20:12:25 <Derynifank>   I have a friend  who  downsized got rid of a lot of books, put bookcases in the new place and promptly  filled them up
Oct 16 20:12:42 <BalanceTheEnergies>   That's not hard to do DF
Oct 16 20:12:45 <JaredB>   Oh, Tanya's already been to two library booksales since we moved.
Oct 16 20:12:52 <Evie>   Ironically, I think the reason I wasn't able to meet you that weekend was that I was heading up to Clarksville, TN for a few days.
Oct 16 20:13:26 <JaredB>   Ah, well -- we met someone at an event down in Vulcan's Forge earlier this year that I think lives in Clarksville.
Oct 16 20:13:35 <Evie>   We have a best friend /informally adopted sister who lives there
Oct 16 20:13:37 <JaredB>   He recognized my Caidan award medallions
Oct 16 20:14:19 <Evie>   Do you recall the name?  I know several of the Clarksville members since we visit there fairly often
Oct 16 20:14:30 <JaredB>   Legio ov Orkney
Oct 16 20:14:45 <JaredB>   (yes, that's how he spells it)
Oct 16 20:14:47 <Evie>   Oh lord yes, the world just shrank.  Yeah, I know Legio. LOL!  :-D
Oct 16 20:15:00 <Evie>   Nice guy
Oct 16 20:15:03 <JaredB>   Why am I not surprised?
Oct 16 20:15:26 <Evie>   We've spent the night at his place a time or two when we were up there
Oct 16 20:15:35 <JaredB>   I have friends in Vulcan's Forge -- Macha Drake and Richard the Weaver
Oct 16 20:16:00 <Evie>   Macha is here in Shire des Forges now.  We had a name change a few years back
Oct 16 20:16:15 <DesertRose>   BRB, somehow my tea glass has gone empty on me
Oct 16 20:16:18 <Evie>   Wait...you were at one of our events?  When was this?
Oct 16 20:16:26 <Evie>   I feel the world continuing to shrink.  :-D
Oct 16 20:16:42 <Evie>   You may well have passed right by me and not known it.  LOL!
Oct 16 20:16:47 <JaredB>   The one at the rustic site in May, I believe.
Oct 16 20:17:10 <Derynifank>   Battery getting  low so will say goodnight. Have a great birthday  KK
Oct 16 20:17:11 <JaredB>   BTW, In case I forget it, Happy Birthday, KK. It's been way too long
Oct 16 20:17:18 <Evie>   Goodnight, Derynifank
Oct 16 20:17:32 *   The_Bee (Mibbit@OWIRCN-860d1fc1.ma.comcast.net) has joined
Oct 16 20:17:34 <KK>   Yes.  Good night, Jared.
Oct 16 20:17:41 *   Derynifank has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Oct 16 20:18:16 <The_Bee>   Has everyone gone ssilent but you, KK?
Oct 16 20:18:16 <Evie>   Now I'm trying to remember which event it was.  It was a camp site, not a church in Roebuck?
Oct 16 20:18:55 <JaredB>   Yeah -- old boy scout camp. I couldn't get around very well, so mostly sat next to Richard and Macha's table with them and Helen
Oct 16 20:19:21 <KK>   They're recalling chance meetings of which they were unaware at the time.
Oct 16 20:19:26 <Evie>   Ohhh, I think you mean the event in Mentone, AL?
Oct 16 20:19:36 <JaredB>   Yeah, I think that was it.
Oct 16 20:20:01 <Evie>   I was unable to make that one for some reason that I can't recall now, but I heard it wasn't a great site accessability-wise
Oct 16 20:20:37 <KK>   I think I'd better go rustle up supper.  See you guys next week.
Oct 16 20:20:50 <Evie>   Oh wait, yes, I remember. My folks were in town then, and they've got to the age where they really can't do all day outdoors (or mostly outdoors) activities anymore.
Oct 16 20:20:55 <The_Bee>   bye KK.  Thanks for ccoming
Oct 16 20:20:55 <JaredB>   Happy supper!
Oct 16 20:20:56 *   KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
Oct 16 20:21:01 <Evie>   Goodnight, KK, and have a happy birthday!
Oct 16 20:21:06 <Evie>   Hello to Scott
Oct 16 20:21:17 <The_Bee>   Happy Birthday, KK
Oct 16 20:21:24 <KK>   Thanks, one and all.  See you next week.

"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
