Aug 14 17:11:56 <Evie>   We didn't discover until just before my grandfather's 90th birthday that he had never had a birthday party and birthday cake before.  He was too poor for birthday parties when he was growing up, and when he was an adult, he and Grandmother would give birthday parties to their kids, but they never had any.

Dmitri's being quite a gentleman, in fact.  There was early hissing and growling, but the only times he's actually swatted her, Tati had it coming for being a brat.  They're mostly corrective  "Mind your manners, kid!" kind of swats, and not actual attempts to do damage.
