Aug 14 17:07:58 <DesertRose>   Hi KK!
Aug 14 17:08:06 <Jemler>   hi kk
Aug 14 17:08:13 <KK>   Hello all!
Aug 14 17:08:18 <revanne>   Yes - done by the BBC - I don't know if it ever crossed the pond. It's 13 hour long episodes which we have on CD's. My christmas present to DS about 15 years ago.
Aug 14 17:08:22 <revanne>   Hi KK
Aug 14 17:08:32 <revanne>   Sorry to hear about your father.
Aug 14 17:08:44 <DesertRose>   Made it back to Virginia okay, I presume?  My sympathy about your dad.
Aug 14 17:08:46 <Evie>   Hi, KK!  Glad you are back!  Sorry about your loss.

Aug 14 17:09:08 <DesertRose>   Hi Bee
Aug 14 17:09:11 <Jemler>   hi bee
Aug 14 17:09:16 <KK>   Thank you.  Got back Tuesday evening.  And his passing was gentle, at 91.  If ever there was a classic good death, he had it.
Aug 14 17:09:20 <The_Bee>   hI EVERYONE!
Aug 14 17:09:23 *   Evie does a happy dance at having KK back with us
Aug 14 17:09:40 <revanne>   Hi Bee
Aug 14 17:09:46 <revanne>   That's good KK
Aug 14 17:09:49 <Evie>   That's good.  91 is a good long run.
Aug 14 17:09:56 <KK>   Indeed.
Aug 14 17:10:04 <Jemler>   my aunt was 87 when she died.
Aug 14 17:10:09 *   DesertRose puts on the kettle for tea.
Aug 14 17:10:27 <revanne>   my Dad was 91.
Aug 14 17:10:28 <Evie>   We didn't even have time to put the ice cream at the four quarters for you!
Aug 14 17:10:30 <DesertRose>   91 is a good age.
Aug 14 17:11:04 <DesertRose>   The only person to whom I'm remotely related who got that far was my stepdad's (feisty, fantastic) grandmother, who made it past that but not quite to 100, but I can't remember the exact age.
Aug 14 17:11:17 *   revanne fetches the strawberries and cream and apologises for having already eaten the meringues.
Aug 14 17:11:40 <KK>   But even though he thought he'd made all the legal preparations, there's still a lot do do.  But the car sold quickly, and also the house, which is now in escrow.  Still, the lawyer tells me at least 6 months until most things settle.
Aug 14 17:11:56 <Evie>   We didn't discover until just before my grandfather's 90th birthday that he had never had a birthday party and birthday cake before.  He was too poor for birthday parties when he was growing up, and when he was an adult, he and Grandmother would give birthday parties to their kids, but they never had any.
Aug 14 17:12:02 <DesertRose>   Yeah, there's a pile of paperwork around end of life.
Aug 14 17:12:23 <revanne>   Glad things are going as smoothly as they can though.
Aug 14 17:12:46 <Evie>   So for his 90th birthday, my aunt threw him a birthday party and got him a farm cake (he was a farmer) with a plowed field of growing vegetables and a little John Deere tractor on it. He was thrilled.
Aug 14 17:12:47 <DesertRose>   Evie, did y'all throw him a big bash for his 90th, then?
Aug 14 17:12:51 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 17:13:00 <DesertRose>   That's awesome!
Aug 14 17:13:05 <revanne>   Sounds lovely Evie
Aug 14 17:13:42 <Evie>   My aunt asked him if he wanted another party the following year, and he said, "No, that's fine.  If I make it to 100, you can throw another party then."  :-)
Aug 14 17:13:50 <revanne>   LOL
Aug 14 17:13:52 <KK>   I went down for my dad's 90th also.  And his 91st.  That was a good visit--alas, the final one.
Aug 14 17:14:05 <Evie>   He made it to 94, but I was glad we found out in time and he managed to get a big birthday bash.
Aug 14 17:14:58 <revanne>   We took my Dad out for a meal for his 90th and when we sang happy birthday everyone in the restaurant clapped.
Aug 14 17:15:10 <DesertRose>   My stepdad called his grandmother Big Mama, which cracked me up because when he and my mom got married, I was just shy of nine years old and I was about as tall as "Big Mama" then, so Big was about the last thing she was!
Aug 14 17:15:26 <Evie>   Just getting to 90 is an accomplishment, even with today's modern medicine
Aug 14 17:15:31 <DesertRose>   Indeed.
Aug 14 17:15:32 <revanne>   big in spirit maybe
Aug 14 17:15:36 <DesertRose>   That she was.
Aug 14 17:15:51 <DesertRose>   She was the only person in whose presence I never heard even the mildest curse word pass his lips.
Aug 14 17:16:06 <DesertRose>   I remain convinced that she'd have tanned his hide if he'd tried, never mind he was a grown man.
Aug 14 17:16:26 <DesertRose>   And about twice her size.
Aug 14 17:16:28 <Evie>   DH called his maternal grandmother "Mamama," because when he was little, he'd worked out she was "mama's ma," so that's what he called her.
Aug 14 17:16:47 <revanne>   My Mother-in-Law's grandmother lived to two months shy of a hundred in the 1930's and the doctor said that it was the excitement of being nearly 100 that killed her.
Aug 14 17:16:55 <DesertRose>   :)
Aug 14 17:17:41 <revanne>   In 2004 I did the funeral service of a lady of 106 who had lived in three centuries.
Aug 14 17:17:52 <Evie>   Wow!
Aug 14 17:19:05 <revanne>   And seen 5 reigns (6 if you count Edward VIII)
Aug 14 17:19:21 <Evie>   My maternal grandparents were born in the 1800s and were old enough to be the parents of my paternal grandparents, who were both born in the early 1900s
Aug 14 17:19:40 <Evie>   That's amazing, revanne
Aug 14 17:19:45 <Evie>   So much history!

Aug 14 17:20:54 *   Shiral enters chatroom with a champagne cork pop
Aug 14 17:20:55 <The_Bee>   HI SHIRAL!
Aug 14 17:21:00 <Shiral>   Hello, all
Aug 14 17:21:14 <Evie>   My alma mater just graduated a woman who began studies there before the Great Depression but had to drop out after her family's finances got tight.  She was only a couple of credit hours short of getting her degree, so for Christmas her daughter signed her up for one independent study class that would allow her to graduate.
Aug 14 17:21:14 <revanne>   hi Shiral
Aug 14 17:21:24 <Shiral>   KK, very sorry to hear of your father's passing.
Aug 14 17:21:40 <KK>   That's cool, Evie.
Aug 14 17:21:43 *   Shiral sets tea table with scones, cream and jam
Aug 14 17:22:04 <Evie>   So she graduated at 90+ years old, and her independent study involved writing down her memoirs of her time at the university back in her youth so that they could add her memoirs to the university's historical archives.
Aug 14 17:22:16 <revanne>   That is so amazing
Aug 14 17:22:20 <KK>   Yes, Shiral, and thanks for your e-mail shortly after.
Aug 14 17:22:33 <Evie>   She was able to attend the graduation ceremony and got a standing ovation when she went forward for her degree
Aug 14 17:23:14 *   Evie towels off the champagne splashed everywhere due to Shiral's abrupt arrival
Aug 14 17:23:25 <KK>   Evie, have you guys gotten some of that terrible rain that's flooded out Louisiana?
Aug 14 17:23:45 <Evie>   Not anywhere near that much.  We've had some daily thunder showers, but they pass through quickly
Aug 14 17:23:47 <KK>   We had downpours in Fla, and also here.
Aug 14 17:23:48 <DesertRose>   Hi Shiral, sorry, went afk for a minute.
Aug 14 17:24:06 <DesertRose>   That's awesome about the 90+-year-old graduate, Evie.
Aug 14 17:24:10 <KK>   And Shiral, how's the kitten-search coming?
Aug 14 17:24:17 <Evie>   We're not getting anywhere near enough to be in any danger of an ark with animals floating by my window anytime soon
Aug 14 17:24:35 <revanne>   Where is Louisiana in relation to Alabama?
Aug 14 17:24:53 <The_Bee>   west
Aug 14 17:24:57 <Jemler>   what about that ark thing that idiot built?
Aug 14 17:24:59 <revanne>   Thanks
Aug 14 17:25:00 <Shiral>   Kitten search has been completed, KK. The newest resident at Picasso Terrace is a little pale red tabby girl named Tatiana AKA "The Ginger Ninja"
Aug 14 17:25:04 <Evie>   It's two states west of here
Aug 14 17:25:08 <DesertRose>   LOL, Evie, a few years ago when Tropical Storm Faye rolled through and SOAKED every single county in Florida (which was a neat trick, given the shape of this state) for about a week straight, we started making Ark jokes.
Aug 14 17:25:39 <DesertRose>   It wasn't much of a tropical cyclone in terms of wind, but the RAIN, good grief!
Aug 14 17:25:58 <Shiral>   She's about 3 months old, and like all kittens, her basic cuteness is to ensure her survival
Aug 14 17:26:23 <KK>   Sounds delightful.  Tatiana, eh?
Aug 14 17:26:24 <Evie>   Hm, I wonder if that storm soaked us too, because I remember a few years ago we got an unusually wet season for a while when I thought I'd never see sunshine again
Aug 14 17:26:26 <The_Bee>   have she and Dmitri made peace?
Aug 14 17:26:28 <Jemler>   i have the same problem! :)
Aug 14 17:26:47 <Shiral>   Yes, to go with Dmitri, I stuck to a Russian theme. She has the soul of a  tiny Grand Duchess
Aug 14 17:27:04 <Evie>   What problem, jemler?  You're all wet, or you have to be cute to ensure your survival?  :-D
Aug 14 17:27:27 <Jemler>   in the cat world, she probably is a duchess.
Aug 14 17:27:36 <Jemler>   cute for survival.
Aug 14 17:27:51 <DesertRose>   Nope, Jemler, you underestimate the grandiosity of cats.
Aug 14 17:27:57 <DesertRose>   At minimum, she's a demi-goddess.  :)
Aug 14 17:28:33 <KK>   Is her picture up yet on the website?
Aug 14 17:29:05 <Shiral>   Yes, Bee. She and  Dmitri have established a pretty good relationship. Dmitri's being quite a gentleman, in fact.  There was early hissing and growling, but the only times he's actually swatted her, Tati had it coming for being a brat.  They're mostly corrective  "Mind your manners, kid!" kind of swats, and not actual attempts to do damage.
Aug 14 17:29:18 <revanne>   That's good
Aug 14 17:29:43 <Shiral>   Yes, there's a picture of her in the Fur Kids section. There are more pictures on my FB page
Aug 14 17:30:13 <Shiral>   And I have several new pictures, as yet unposted from my camera that are on my computer at home.
Aug 14 17:30:28 <KK>   Ah, haven't had time to go on Facebook yet.
Aug 14 17:30:40 <revanne>   Sorry - got to go DH has arrived home in breakdown truck. Long story but I need to go and administer TLC. Good to say Hi KK
Aug 14 17:30:45 <revanne>   Goodnight all.
Aug 14 17:30:47 <Evie>   brb, DD's boyfriend is here to pick up her power cord
Aug 14 17:30:57 <KK>   Nighters, Revanne.
Aug 14 17:31:03 <Jemler>   nite revanne
Aug 14 17:31:08 <The_Bee>   bye revanne
Aug 14 17:31:10 *   revanne has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Aug 14 17:31:11 <Evie>   G'night!
Aug 14 17:31:17 <Evie>   darn, missed her
Aug 14 17:31:23 <Jemler>   he has to plug her in?!?
Aug 14 17:31:40 <Evie>   LOL!  That did sound odd, didn't it!  No, she left her phone charger.  :-D
Aug 14 17:31:45 <Shiral>   A friend of mine saw one of the first pictures from her first day home, and said Tatianna looked like a rich matron about to complain mightily about her hotel room, which she found unsatisfactory. (I kept her secluded for the first week, while Dmitri was wrapping his mind around the concept of "new competition.")
Aug 14 17:32:20 *   Demercia (Mibbit@42F7BC.955DB6.521F9B.3FD0C7) has joined
Aug 14 17:32:25 <Shiral>   There are days when I wish I had a power cord.
Aug 14 17:32:29 <Shiral>   Hi Demercia
Aug 14 17:32:30 <The_Bee>   hi Demercia
Aug 14 17:32:32 <Evie>   She's cat and house sitting for a friend of ours this week, so she'll be spending her nights there for a while, and she forgot her phone charger when she was packing her stuff this morning, so she sent her BF by to pick it up for her and bring it to her at work.
Aug 14 17:32:38 <Shiral>   You just missed your Sister
Aug 14 17:32:40 <Demercia>   Hi everyone.
Aug 14 17:32:53 <Evie>   Hi Demercia
Aug 14 17:32:56 <Jemler>   hi demercia
Aug 14 17:32:59 <Demercia>   Hi KK, sorry to hear about your Dad
Aug 14 17:33:20 <Evie>   Had just read "Dmitri" and nearly typed "Hi Dmitria"
Aug 14 17:34:02 <Demercia>   Yes I imagine she's gone off to give her DH some TLC.  He has had car trouble
Aug 14 17:34:18 <The_Bee>   so whe said
Aug 14 17:34:24 <Jemler>   Shiral, you need 1 more cat. a male named Oberon.
Aug 14 17:34:36 <Shiral>   Demercia doesn't have whiskers, though. =o)
Aug 14 17:34:42 <Demercia>   No wish to be Dmitria thanks
Aug 14 17:34:47 <Evie>   No, she'd only need an Oberon if she had a Titania
Aug 14 17:34:47 <DesertRose>   Hi Demercia.
Aug 14 17:34:54 <DesertRose>   Drat, missed revanne's departure.
Aug 14 17:34:56 <Jemler>   good to know. <Nodding>
Aug 14 17:35:06 <Shiral>   It's Tatiana, not Titania, but I'll grant you, the two names look very similar on the page
Aug 14 17:35:17 <Demercia>   How do you know😸
Aug 14 17:35:23 <Shiral>   Tatiana for the beloved of Eugene Onegin.
Aug 14 17:35:33 <Evie>   I can send you some of those stick-on mustaches
Aug 14 17:35:35 <Shiral>   Oh! I beg your pardon!
Aug 14 17:35:36 <Jemler>   ah, so no Shakespeare?
Aug 14 17:35:48 <Shiral>   No, went with Pushkin, instead
Aug 14 17:36:37 <DesertRose>   Speaking of Shakespeare, I saw a funny post online recently that read, "What if he's your Romeo but you're not his Juliet?" and the next post in line was, "Then you're his Rosaline and you survive the dratted play!"
Aug 14 17:36:50 <Evie>   LOL
Aug 14 17:36:55 <Demercia>   Love it
Aug 14 17:36:55 <Shiral>   LOL  Not a bad fate, in all
Aug 14 17:37:17 <DesertRose>   Given the fates of a lot of those characters, nope.  ;)
Aug 14 17:37:22 <Shiral>   Of course, we don't know what happened to Rosaline
Aug 14 17:37:38 <DesertRose>   Presumably, she married someone else and went on with her life.
Aug 14 17:37:41 <Evie>   It has to be better than what happened to Juliet
Aug 14 17:38:31 <Shiral>   Hopefullly didn't die young in childbed, or die of the plague
Aug 14 17:38:33 <Demercia>   well unless she got landed with Paris
Aug 14 17:38:38 <Evie>   I no longer look like the Olivia Hussey Juliet, alas.  If I still did, I'd want her wardrobe for SCA events.  :-D
Aug 14 17:38:42 <The_Bee>   With Shakespeare, a comedy ends with a wedding and a tragedy ends  with a funeral.
Aug 14 17:38:50 <DesertRose>   Yup, pretty much, Bee.
Aug 14 17:38:59 <Demercia>   Or several funerals
Aug 14 17:39:17 <Demercia>   Alas I never looked like Olivia Hussey
Aug 14 17:39:21 <Shiral>   I'm pretty sure I never  DID resemble Olivia Hussey. =o) But ever since that movie, Juliet will always look like Olivia Hussey, to me.
Aug 14 17:40:00 <DesertRose>   Nor I.  I was always too tall by quite a bit to land an ingenue role.
Aug 14 17:40:40 <Demercia>   But at least you didn't have a squint (with reference to Noel Coward)
Aug 14 17:40:44 <Evie>   There's a story behind that.  When I was in high school, I had people asking me about the play I was in, and I had no idea what they were on about until someone showed me the poster on the hallway bulletin board.  It was about a re-release of the Romeo and Juliet film, and people thought Juliet was me in costume and that I was in a play
Aug 14 17:40:55 <DesertRose>   Wow!
Aug 14 17:40:58 <Shiral>   Pushkin's Tatiana may not have married the man she really  loved, but she DOES get to tell him  "Well  you had your CHANCE to marry me, you idiot!" Of course, she says it all much more elegantly. =o) But she's one of the few Romantic heroines who gets to have her revenge without having to kill the guy.
Aug 14 17:41:10 <KK>   Excellent observation, Bee.
Aug 14 17:41:45 <The_Bee>   Thanks, KK. I was quoting someone, but I don 't know who.
Aug 14 17:41:53 <DesertRose>   And as a mezzo-soprano at my highest pitch, I'd have been cast in villainess roles in opera.  :)
Aug 14 17:42:09 <DesertRose>   Which honestly would have been fun, because those are usually nice juicy parts.
Aug 14 17:42:11 <Shiral>   Which also means you survive, DR. =o)
Aug 14 17:42:15 <DesertRose>   Usually.  :-D
Aug 14 17:42:29 <Shiral>   The villain gets the good tunes.
Aug 14 17:42:45 <DesertRose>   Now I'm an alto, which relegates me to servants/comic relief.  :)
Aug 14 17:43:06 <Demercia>   That depresses me on two counts Evie, not only did I not look like Olivia Hussey, I was also on High School when the movie first came out☹️
Aug 14 17:43:08 <Evie>   I've always sung alto, but when I was young I had a very high speaking voice, and had to consciously work on lowering my pitch so I could get roles that weren't ingenue roles in college theatre productions
Aug 14 17:43:13 <DesertRose>   BRB cat shenanigans in progress
Aug 14 17:43:14 <Shiral>   You still get to survive, unless you drink somebody else's poisoned wine by mistake. =o0
Aug 14 17:43:17 <The_Bee>   Wasn't tall beautiful in Shakespeare's day?  In Midsummer Night's dream, Hermia accuses Helena of seducing her lover by citing her greater height.
Aug 14 17:43:24 <Jemler>   the only way i can carry a tune is by carrying a radio.
Aug 14 17:43:30 <Evie>   LOL, Demercia!  I'm not that  much younger than you.  4 years, I think
Aug 14 17:43:35 <Demercia>   Me too Jemler
Aug 14 17:44:20 <Evie>   Trust me, these days I don't look at all like Olivia Hussey.  Like I swallowed her whole, maybe.  :-D
Aug 14 17:44:21 <Jemler>   and since evie is 35, that makes you, demercia, 35!
Aug 14 17:44:43 <Evie>   Thus proving that jemler can't add
Aug 14 17:44:56 <Evie>   35 + 4 = 35, is that the new math?
Aug 14 17:45:08 <Demercia>   I do remember 35
Aug 14 17:45:33 <Jemler>   it's not that. it's just that no woman gets any older than 35.
Aug 14 17:45:50 <Demercia>   But since Revanne's eldest daughter is 32
Aug 14 17:46:02 <Evie>   She was a very youthful bride
Aug 14 17:46:06 <Demercia>   Elder daughter, she only has two
Aug 14 17:46:57 <Evie>   Put her son in a kilt and stick a flower behind his ear and we'll count him as 3
Aug 14 17:47:03 <Demercia>   Not that young
Aug 14 17:47:49 <DesertRose>   Okay, I heard a kitchen cabinet door close, which, since I live alone except for Carys-kitteh, meant that some sort of kitchen shenanigans were occurring.  However, by the time I got to the kitchen, Carys walked out of the kitchen, looking very innocent and cute (which buried the needle on my BS-o-Meter), but since the shenanigans have stopped, I'm letting it slide.
Aug 14 17:47:58 <Evie>   KK, I've finally got a chance to use the doll furniture you sent me a few years ago
Aug 14 17:48:23 <KK>   Cool.  Any photos up?
Aug 14 17:48:25 <Evie>   Now that I've got a flat for my modern Mini-Deryni as well as my castle dollhouse
Aug 14 17:48:42 <Evie>   They're in the action figure thread.  Hang on and I can look back a few pages for them
Aug 14 17:51:06 <Evie>   Starting on this page: http://www.rhemuthcastle.com/index.php/topic,844.1470.html  It's a good thing I got them out of the basement when I did.  Painted items in boxes down there had started to get a very thin bit of mildew, but I was able to use vinegar solution to clean them off.
Aug 14 17:51:32 <Shiral>   Ah yes, mysterious doors opening in the kitchen=not usually a good sign when you have a cat in the house. =o)
Aug 14 17:51:38 <Evie>   Didn't seem to really affect any unpainted wooden items, but for some reason painted items have to be thoroughly wiped down
Aug 14 17:51:39 <DesertRose>   Nope
Aug 14 17:52:26 <DesertRose>   Also with pets and young children, often the cuter and more innocent they look, the more trouble they've just been in or were about to start.  :)
Aug 14 17:52:28 <Evie>   I have to be careful I don't get a Gigi in my pots and pans cabinet, since the door doesn't always close completely
Aug 14 17:52:35 <Shiral>   I had a birthday dinner for my mom at my place last night, and I brought Tatiana downstairs to meet everyone. She was duly oohed-and Aahed over. But as soon as I let go of her, Tatiana was OUT of there.
Aug 14 17:53:16 <Evie>   Yes, Gigi has a talent for looking innocent with a wide-eyed look on her face that makes her look part owl
Aug 14 17:53:21 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 17:53:52 <Evie>   Luke doesn't even feign innocent.  If caught in the middle of something, he looks you in the eye and purrs loudly
Aug 14 17:53:53 <DesertRose>   If there were a Cat Olympics, Carys would be a medal contender for Attempting to Cute Her Way Out of A Scolding.
Aug 14 17:54:06 <Shiral>   I was pulling a roasting pan for my chicken out of the cupboard, and as soon as I had my back turned, a gray stripey tail was disappearing inside.  Dmitri has to investigate cupboards as if he expects to find a portal into Narnia somewhere.
Aug 14 17:54:11 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 17:54:18 <Evie>   LOL!
Aug 14 17:54:29 <Evie>   If I thought I'd find Narnia, I'd crawl in there myself!
Aug 14 17:55:18 <Shiral>   You'd find my cupboard really cramped. =o)
Aug 14 17:55:19 <The_Bee>   I saw a TV show about a cat olympics.
Aug 14 17:55:46 <DesertRose>   Of course, she'd also be a medal contender for Comforting A Person Who's Had a Rotten Day.
Aug 14 17:57:02 <Evie>   Cats are good for that
Aug 14 17:57:42 *   Demercia has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Aug 14 17:57:44 <DesertRose>   They are, but Carys is a particular star at that.  :)
Aug 14 17:58:00 <Evie>   Luke would be a gold medalist.  Gigi might get the bronze if she felt like it, silver if she truly makes the effort, but she's more about you being there to adore her rather than her being there for you.  :-)
Aug 14 17:58:16 <DesertRose>   LOL

Aug 14 17:58:43 <DesertRose>   Apparently we may have only one twin at a time tonight.
Aug 14 17:58:48 <Jemler>   wb revanne
Aug 14 17:58:51 <Shiral>   Dmitri would walk back and forth between me and the TV or Computer a few times, if he thought I needed cheering up
Aug 14 17:58:58 <Shiral>   WB, Revanne
Aug 14 17:58:58 <revanne>   LOL
Aug 14 17:59:12 <Evie>   Yes, Demercia just disappeared and then you showed back up
Aug 14 17:59:16 <DesertRose>   Demercia popped in after you left and just disappeared right before you came back.
Aug 14 17:59:28 <revanne>   DH fed and now watching soccer with DS
Aug 14 17:59:32 <DesertRose>   :)
Aug 14 17:59:33 <Evie>   Are you sure you're not the same person?
Aug 14 17:59:35 <Shiral>   Well.....we've never seen BOTH of them physically in the same room......
Aug 14 17:59:39 <The_Bee>   Is DH sufficiently comforted?
Aug 14 17:59:46 <Evie>   And they do look an awful lot alike....
Aug 14 18:00:04 <revanne>   Yes, thank you Bee.
Aug 14 18:00:06 <Shiral>   Oops, I have to go give one of the other librarians a break. I'll be back when possible.
Aug 14 18:00:13 <DesertRose>   Okay, later, Shiral
Aug 14 18:00:14 <Shiral>   Ta, for now!
Aug 14 18:00:16 <revanne>   Ok

Aug 14 18:00:20 <Evie>   At first i read that as DH playing soccer with DS in next room. I was worried about your breakables
Aug 14 18:00:23 <The_Bee>   bye shiral
Aug 14 18:00:30 <Jemler>   they walk alike, they talk alike...
Aug 14 18:00:33 <Evie>   drat, missed Shiral
Aug 14 18:00:34 <revanne>   It's really all done by mirrors
Aug 14 18:00:40 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 18:01:04 <Jemler>   brb. dinner.
Aug 14 18:01:07 <Evie>   So you've got the mirror with the hair extensions painted on to make yours look longer?
Aug 14 18:01:13 <DesertRose>   Okay, Jemler
Aug 14 18:01:31 <revanne>   Yes
Aug 14 18:01:43 <revanne>   Enjoy dinner Jemler
Aug 14 18:02:32 <revanne>   One of my late aunts quite seriously insisted that Demercia and I were one person in two bodies.
Aug 14 18:02:34 <Evie>   KK, you with us, or still browsing photos?  :-D
Aug 14 18:02:43 <DesertRose>   O.o
Aug 14 18:02:57 <DesertRose>   Yikes, revanne
Aug 14 18:02:59 <Evie>   I guess that's preferable to being two people in one body!
Aug 14 18:03:27 <Evie>   I'd sometimes like to be one person in two bodies.  I'd get more done!
Aug 14 18:03:38 <revanne>   Depends who the other person was;)
Aug 14 18:03:41 <Evie>   I'd leave one of me here in chat while the other goes shopping.  :-D
Aug 14 18:03:45 <DesertRose>   Didn't you see that movie "Multiplicity?"  Not a good idea.  :)
Aug 14 18:04:01 <Evie>   LOL, revanne
Aug 14 18:04:02 <KK>   Still looking at photos.
Aug 14 18:04:27 <Evie>   My mental Morgan is smirking now
Aug 14 18:04:55 <Evie>   I'm looking forward to finding things to put in the little living room cabinet drawers, KK
Aug 14 18:05:03 <revanne>   Why in particular?
Aug 14 18:05:11 <Evie>   Since once I finish the basic decor, it will be time for the detail work.
Aug 14 18:05:13 <DesertRose>   And books to put on the bookshelves?  :-P
Aug 14 18:06:20 <Evie>   Thinking of a particular combination of two people being at least partially in one body, revanne.  Jen is giving him The Look for going there.  :-D
Aug 14 18:06:28 <DesertRose>   ROFL
Aug 14 18:07:12 <revanne>   LOL
Aug 14 18:07:41 <DesertRose>   Carys, who has been resting across my chest for the last ten minutes or so, is now most put out because my laughing has made her nap/chilling spot move!
Aug 14 18:08:00 <Evie>   Actually the only bookshelves now are the already full ones in the home office, since the original set in the living room were wobbly and threatened to fall over when I put a lot of items on it, so I wasn't too certain about filling the shelves with books unless they were glued down
Aug 14 18:08:16 <revanne>   Father Devlin needs to take him in hand!
Aug 14 18:08:32 <DesertRose>   I was more joking about "The Zen of Kitteh" thing from the other day, anyway.  :)
Aug 14 18:08:52 <revanne>   Poor Carys.
Aug 14 18:09:04 <DesertRose>   I dare say she'll live, revanne.  ;)
Aug 14 18:09:08 <Evie>   Morgan says Father Devlin was NOT who he had in mind!

Aug 14 18:11:35 <Demercia>   Evil twun😀
Aug 14 18:11:40 <Demercia>   Twin
Aug 14 18:12:04 <revanne>   Didn't like to ask what a twun was
Aug 14 18:12:07 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 18:12:16 <DesertRose>   A past-tense twin?  Yikes!
Aug 14 18:12:28 <Evie>   twin, twan, twun
Aug 14 18:12:59 <revanne>   That sounds like something from Edgar Allen Poe DR
Aug 14 18:13:14 <DesertRose>   LOL, it does rather, doesn't it?
Aug 14 18:13:41 <The_Bee>   twunce and future king

Aug 14 18:15:17 <Evie>   :-D
Aug 14 18:16:12 <DesertRose>   I won't go where my brain went, but suffice it to say, there are some puerile at best Latin jokes that just ran through my brain.
Aug 14 18:16:22 <Evie>   I should have known those Brits with their rude words were only yelling Latin at me!  ;-)
Aug 14 18:16:55 <revanne>   Nothing but the best abuse.
Aug 14 18:16:58 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 18:18:04 <DesertRose>   Rude rude rude rude rude, to quote a high-school friend of mine.  :)
Aug 14 18:18:06 <Jemler>   Juliuus Caesar sent his friend Brutus to the baker to get a dozen donuts. When he came back there were only 10 donuts left. Caesar looked at his friend and said, "Et tu, Brute?"
Aug 14 18:18:21 <Evie>   Still remembering the time my son was doing an online game with some kids in the UK who found out he was American.  "I had to go to Urban Dictionary just to find out what I am, Mom!"
Aug 14 18:18:35 <DesertRose>   LOL, yeah.
Aug 14 18:18:39 <revanne>   LOL
Aug 14 18:18:42 <Evie>   LOL
Aug 14 18:18:59 <The_Bee>   so what was he?
Aug 14 18:19:14 <Evie>   He didn't mention the specific epithets used.  :-D
Aug 14 18:19:19 *   revanne hurriedly finds mackerel to launch at Jemler
Aug 14 18:19:21 <DesertRose>   Given online gaming culture, maybe best not to ask.  :)
Aug 14 18:19:36 <Evie>   One might have been Latin, according to revanne.  ;-)
Aug 14 18:19:40 <Evie>   :-D
Aug 14 18:19:56 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 18:20:15 <Evie>   Gigi has come to meatloaf in front of me in hopes I will notice her cuteness
Aug 14 18:20:27 <DesertRose>   Given online gaming culture, the answers are possibly not repeatable in polite company, let's say that.
Aug 14 18:20:34 <revanne>   Hi Gigi
Aug 14 18:20:38 <DesertRose>   Hi Gigi.
Aug 14 18:20:45 <Demercia>   Meanwhile I have a large ginger cat curled up beside me who is making it very plain that I am Keeping him Up, so am going to say goodnight.  Assuming that Revanne will not thereby disappear
Aug 14 18:20:51 <Evie>   She has a particular spot in the family room floor that she loves to lie on.
Aug 14 18:20:57 <DesertRose>   Okay, g'night, Demercia and Brandysnap.
Aug 14 18:21:02 <Evie>   Not sure why she picked that particular spot, but it's her spot
Aug 14 18:21:13 <DesertRose>   Well, by now it smells like Gigi.
Aug 14 18:21:15 <Evie>   Goodnight, Demercia!
Aug 14 18:21:20 <The_Bee>   nighters, Demercia. glad you came
Aug 14 18:21:27 <DesertRose>   But who knows why it was Her Spot in the first place.
Aug 14 18:21:43 <Demercia>   Goodnight.  Thanks for early chat
Aug 14 18:21:49 <Evie>   I think the sun used to leave a sun puddle there several weeks ago, but now it's just Her Spot.
Aug 14 18:21:53 <DesertRose>   Good to see you Demercia.  See you in September?
Aug 14 18:22:07 <Demercia>   Should do.
Aug 14 18:22:17 <revanne>   Having lowered the tone of the conversation will say goodnight too.
Aug 14 18:22:19 <DesertRose>   Okay.  Don't let B get any further put out of sorts.  :)
Aug 14 18:22:22 <Jemler>   back. nite demercia.
Aug 14 18:22:28 <DesertRose>   LOL, okay, revanne.
Aug 14 18:22:31 <Evie>   When is DragonCon this year?  KK, will you be here the first Sunday in September?

Aug 14 18:23:47 <Evie>   Surprised drakensis isn't here.  Maybe he didn't see the notice about chat being early this week also
Aug 14 18:24:13 <DesertRose>   Labor Day weekend is the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of September, so I'd guess that's DragonCon weekend, but gimme a sec and I'll Google.

Aug 14 18:24:45 <The_Bee>   wb shiral
Aug 14 18:24:53 <DesertRose>   Yup, 2-5 September is DragonCon.
Aug 14 18:24:54 <Shiral>   I have Returned, I hope you've all been behaving.
Aug 14 18:24:56 <KK>   Alas, I will not be here first Sunday of September,as that is, indeed, Dragoncon.
Aug 14 18:25:15 <The_Bee>   early chat the following week?
Aug 14 18:25:16 <Evie>   Should we do early chat the following Sunday then, or will that work for you?
Aug 14 18:25:21 <DesertRose>   Should we shoot for a late Early Chat next month as well, then?
Aug 14 18:25:41 <DesertRose>   Holy crap, we bombarded KK with the same question (more or less) in triplicate!
Aug 14 18:25:49 <Shiral>   We
Aug 14 18:25:57 <The_Bee>   GMTA
Aug 14 18:25:58 <Shiral>   are thorough, if nothing else
Aug 14 18:26:01 *   Evie giggles a bit at "late early chat" even though it's obvious what DR meant by that
Aug 14 18:26:10 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 18:26:21 <Evie>   Yes, great minds think alike, and then there's ours too.
Aug 14 18:26:29 <DesertRose>   Apparently what we are is bureaucratic since we felt the need to do it in triplicate!
Aug 14 18:27:03 <Shiral>   If I put my cats in drawers, would I then be bureau-Catic?
Aug 14 18:27:08 <Evie>   LOL
Aug 14 18:27:18 <Evie>   Don't make me threaten you with jemler's mackerels
Aug 14 18:27:19 <DesertRose>   Carys would put herself in a drawer because it's very like a box.
Aug 14 18:27:21 <DesertRose>   :)
Aug 14 18:27:35 <Shiral>   Sorry. Sometimes Puns will Out
Aug 14 18:27:58 <Evie>   Gigi used to have a way to squeeze into one of DH's top drawers and into the space behind it.  We have no idea how she managed.
Aug 14 18:28:01 <DesertRose>   That is, assuming I had any drawers on my dresser/lingerie chest that weren't full of belongings.
Aug 14 18:28:24 <DesertRose>   Cats are liquid, that's how.  :)
Aug 14 18:28:35 <Evie>   I think she's too big now to do that, but we're careful to keep that drawer shut nonetheless, as we don't want her to get trapped inside the cabinet with no way out unless we dismantle the entire thing
Aug 14 18:28:40 <Shiral>   SOme of them are even gaseous
Aug 14 18:28:48 <DesertRose>   Yikes, Shiral.
Aug 14 18:28:50 <The_Bee>   bye for now shiral
Aug 14 18:28:52 <Evie>   Yes, that's our theory.  She converts to a gas stat
Aug 14 18:28:53 <DesertRose>   And Phew!
Aug 14 18:28:55 <Evie>   state
Aug 14 18:29:11 *   Shiral looks extra innocent

Aug 14 18:29:22 <Evie>   It would also explain how she got UNDER my china cabinet after squeezing her body into the one inch space between the cabinet and the wall
Aug 14 18:29:26 <The_Bee>   hi Derynifank
Aug 14 18:29:30 <DesertRose>   As with Carys' innocent face, the needle on my BS-O-Meter is buried, Shiral.  :)
Aug 14 18:29:30 <Evie>   Hi Derynifank!
Aug 14 18:29:34 <DesertRose>   Hi Derynifank
Aug 14 18:29:42 *   Derynifank has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Aug 14 18:29:50 <Evie>   That was fast
Aug 14 18:29:53 <Evie>   even for Mibbit
Aug 14 18:29:55 <DesertRose>   Well, shucks.  I wonder if I offended Derynifank?
Aug 14 18:29:59 <The_Bee>   That was quick!
Aug 14 18:30:05 <Shiral>   I don't think I'll try rubbing against your ankles then, DR. Even if you weren't in Florida
Aug 14 18:30:11 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 18:30:40 <Evie>   She might look at you very oddly before reaching for the flyswatter if you do that, Shiral!
Aug 14 18:30:58 <Shiral>   I wouldn't blame her, Evie. =o)
Aug 14 18:31:13 <Shiral>   I don't want to be a fly on ANYBODY's wall that badly!
Aug 14 18:31:18 <DesertRose>   If a grown human tried to rub against my ankles, I think I'd be reaching for my PHONE to contact the local constabulary; forget the flyswatter!
Aug 14 18:31:19 <Evie>   At least I might reach for a flyswatter, if not more, if a grown woman started rubbing against my ankles unexpectedly!  LOL!
Aug 14 18:31:54 <Shiral>   Like I said, the action just doesn't lead to good visuals
Aug 14 18:31:58 <DesertRose>   Nope.
Aug 14 18:32:17 <Evie>   Although I just remembered this little boy in my grandmother's neighborhood who had a thing for the feel of pantyhose or tights, and he'd walk up to you and start stroking your legs if you were wearing either
Aug 14 18:32:35 <Evie>   Fortunately he was only 3.  If he'd been 13+, that would have been a lot creepier!
Aug 14 18:32:36 <Shiral>   When kittens do it, it's cute. When people do it, you turn into someone they avoid in public places. =o)
Aug 14 18:33:02 <DesertRose>   Well, some things are weird but maybe semi-acceptable out of little kids but not so much out of grown adults!
Aug 14 18:33:34 <Shiral>   I'll just stick with looking innocent.
Aug 14 18:33:40 <DesertRose>   Maybe best, Shiral
Aug 14 18:33:44 <Evie>   It would absolutely mortify his mother, and she'd correct him and try to get him to stop, which he would that time, but by the next time he'd forget and be at it again
Aug 14 18:33:58 <DesertRose>   :)
Aug 14 18:34:37 <Evie>   Hopefully she managed to get him broken of the habit before he reached his teens.  I can see it now.  "Get your pervy son's hands OFF ME!"
Aug 14 18:35:10 <The_Bee>   Letr him wear his own panyhose
Aug 14 18:35:16 <Shiral>   I'm quite sure it IS for the best, DR. Better to be unconvincingly innocent than pervy
Aug 14 18:35:16 <DesertRose>   It's like, I read something about, "If a small child hugs you and their head bumps against your hip because that's how tall they are, that's just little kids being little kids.  But if a grown adult hugs you and puts their head against your hip, they better be REALLY good friends!"
Aug 14 18:35:23 <DesertRose>   LOL, yes
Aug 14 18:35:29 <Evie>   LOL
Aug 14 18:36:10 <KK>   We can try for 5 PM chat the week after Dragoncon, though I will have to do down to Florida again at least twice before all the dust settles from my father's estate.  I'll let you know closer to time.
Aug 14 18:36:17 <DesertRose>   Fair enough.
Aug 14 18:36:22 <Evie>   OK
Aug 14 18:36:25 <Jemler>   ok
Aug 14 18:36:34 <The_Bee>   okey dokey
Aug 14 18:36:45 <Shiral>   Will you need to sell property, KK?
Aug 14 18:37:28 <DesertRose>   I'll put it in the news section of the website as tentative for Early Chat for September as 11 September, but that may be subject to change depending on Life Stuff.
Aug 14 18:37:34 <Jemler>   i'm don't trust people selling land in florida.
Aug 14 18:37:44 <KK>   Also, be advised that Saint Camber will be featured on the Early Birds website on Tuesday, the 16th, for $1.99.  It's a good site to keep track of things.  http://www.earlybirdbooks.com/
Aug 14 18:37:52 <DesertRose>   Oh yay!
Aug 14 18:38:23 <DesertRose>   Evie, you've been the one who's been posting those sales on the forum.  Do you mind posting that one as well, please?
Aug 14 18:38:24 <Evie>   Oh, good!
Aug 14 18:38:33 <KK>   House already has a buyer, a good cash offer, so should be totally gone by this time next month.  Car went yesterday.  Hurrah!
Aug 14 18:38:33 <Evie>   OK
Aug 14 18:38:40 <DesertRose>   Thanks. :)
Aug 14 18:39:16 <Shiral>   Saint Camber--one of my favorite examples of the Unintended results of good intensions. =o) "Everything SEEMED like a good idea at the time....
Aug 14 18:39:17 <KK>   Evie, I can forward the message from Betsy Mitchell, as I have been doing.
Aug 14 18:39:18 <Shiral>   "
Aug 14 18:39:22 <KK>   brb
Aug 14 18:39:32 <Evie>   That would help me remember, yes
Aug 14 18:39:50 <DesertRose>   Indeed.  Camber's epitaph ought to have been, "It seemed like a good idea, but..."
Aug 14 18:39:58 <Shiral>   If one has to be doing these things, then I'm glad the process has been efficient
Aug 14 18:40:03 <DesertRose>   Just like mine will likely be, "What the he--, why not?"
Aug 14 18:40:05 <Evie>   Since IIRC they usually request it be posted no sooner than the day of the sale, so if get the message that morning or the night before, that's a good memory jog
Aug 14 18:40:23 <Shiral>   Or "I really never meant things to get so out of hand...."
Aug 14 18:40:36 <DesertRose>   That would have worked for Camber, too, Shiral.  ;)
Aug 14 18:40:41 <Evie>   I can bring the ebook with me to read while DD gets her dental work done on Wednesday, since she will need a driver that day
Aug 14 18:41:04 <Shiral>   "Just because this tomb is empty is NOT a sign I was bodily assumed into Heaven!"
Aug 14 18:41:11 <DesertRose>   My stepdad's is liable to be, "If you're going to halfa$$ it, don't bother."
Aug 14 18:41:16 <DesertRose>   LOL, yes, that too, Shiral.
Aug 14 18:41:47 <Evie>   My son's will be "Hey, guys, watch this!"
Aug 14 18:41:50 <Shiral>   "I just took advantage of an opportunity, and NOW look what's happened!"
Aug 14 18:41:55 <DesertRose>   LOL, Evie.
Aug 14 18:42:10 <DesertRose>   That reminds me of a joke about if they put "black boxes" in cars.
Aug 14 18:42:22 <Evie>   And DD's will probably be "I thought about just not dying, but effort...."
Aug 14 18:42:42 <Shiral>   "I can explain.....Actually, no I sure can't!
Aug 14 18:42:57 <DesertRose>   In most of the US, the last words from a fatal car wreck would be, "Oh sh**!" but from Virginia southward and Texas eastward, it'd be, "Hold mah beer and watch 'is!"
Aug 14 18:43:09 <Evie>   LOL
Aug 14 18:43:15 <Shiral>   One of my favorite New Yorker jokes was a tomb stone saying  "I TOLD you I was sick!"
Aug 14 18:43:15 <KK>   back
Aug 14 18:43:25 <The_Bee>   forth
Aug 14 18:43:27 <Evie>   Or in DH's case "But a yellow light means 'Go faster'!"
Aug 14 18:43:31 <DesertRose>   LOL
Aug 14 18:44:26 <The_Bee>   In Boston, we haave traffic suggestions, not laws.
Aug 14 18:44:38 <Evie>   Got it, KK.  Thanks
Aug 14 18:44:55 <DesertRose>   I've heard that about Boston, that driving there is a whole different concept to driving anywhere else.
Aug 14 18:45:18 <The_Bee>   It's not REALLY that bed....
Aug 14 18:45:40 <Evie>   I've heard that in Texas, merging into freeway traffic means speeding up on the entrance ramp, aiming for a gap, and praying
Aug 14 18:45:42 <DesertRose>   I have an online pal from my Harry Potter fandom days who's a fellow Arizona native who moved to the Boston area when she married a native of those parts, and learning to drive there was...an adventure, let's say.
Aug 14 18:46:01 <DesertRose>   No, it wasn't too awful, but it was an adjustment.
Aug 14 18:46:18 <The_Bee>   "If the car ahead of you isstopping, you stop.  If the car behind you is not stopping, you don't stop."
Aug 14 18:46:20 <DesertRose>   I don't know, I've driven in Dallas and it's not too heinous.
Aug 14 18:46:22 <Shiral>   I would think there would be some culture shock in other areas too, if you're from Arizona and getting used to Boston
Aug 14 18:46:29 <DesertRose>   Yeah, that too.
Aug 14 18:46:31 <Evie>   Destin traffic on the main road was pretty awful at times.  I felt sorry for anyone having to teach a teen driver to drive there
Aug 14 18:46:34 <DesertRose>   Plus she had to get used to snow.
Aug 14 18:47:14 <DesertRose>   Dallas was no crazier than here in Jacksonville, where apparently nobody believes in using a turn signal.
Aug 14 18:47:32 <DesertRose>   And it's really heresy to signal for a lane change!  :eyeroll:
Aug 14 18:47:36 <Evie>   You mean the "Just kidding indicator"?
Aug 14 18:47:41 <DesertRose>   Yeah, LOL
Aug 14 18:47:45 <The_Bee>   The winter of 2015v cwas a record-seter. 100+ inches
Aug 14 18:48:44 <DesertRose>   I, for one, remain in some ways a stubborn Charlestonian (since that's where I lived when I learned to drive), and I USE the [expletive deleted] turn signal, even (gasp) when I intend merely to change lanes!
Aug 14 18:48:49 <The_Bee>   Now we're in a drought.  not as bad as Californias's but bad enough
Aug 14 18:49:39 *   Derynifank (Mibbit@OWIRCN-4bda8189.hr.cox.net) has joined
Aug 14 18:49:49 <DesertRose>   And (further heresy), I turn it off when I've finished a lane change or a turn that isn't sharp enough for it to turn itself off.
Aug 14 18:49:51 <DesertRose>   Hi Derynifank
Aug 14 18:49:58 <Jemler>   hi derynifank
Aug 14 18:50:35 <DesertRose>   Bee, the weather lately has been way past weird.
Aug 14 18:50:47 <DesertRose>   BRB, tea
Aug 14 18:50:48 <Evie>   hi
Aug 14 18:50:55 <The_Bee>   floods or droughts all over
Aug 14 18:51:14 <Jemler>   let's blame it on Teymuraz.
Aug 14 18:51:55 <The_Bee>   El Nino vs La Nina
Aug 14 18:51:59 <Derynifank>   Hi, haven't been able ti chat for awhile. Missed you
Aug 14 18:52:13 <Shiral>    Hi DerynifanK
Aug 14 18:52:21 <The_Bee>   glad you made it.
Aug 14 18:52:36 <Derynifank>   Thanks
Aug 14 18:53:46 <The_Bee>   I don't drive, but I try to remember to use haaaand signals when I'm cycling.
Aug 14 18:53:58 <Evie>   Missed you also
Aug 14 18:54:06 <Shiral>   There's either too much water or too little all over the plce
Aug 14 18:54:08 <Shiral>   place, too
Aug 14 18:54:34 <The_Bee>   Derynifank, what does the K stand for?
Aug 14 18:54:41 <Evie>   So far this summer we've had showers almost daily, but they tend to be short lived
Aug 14 18:55:10 <Derynifank>   Just finished Deryni Tales. Any chance of doing something similar with the fanfic?
Aug 14 18:55:48 <Derynifank>   K fir Kelson
Aug 14 18:56:03 <The_Bee>   aah, ok. Cool!
Aug 14 18:56:16 <Evie>   I wonder if Julianne has ever managed to retrieve the fanzine submissions off the hard drive that crashed, or whatever the problem was that was causing the Deryni Archives 'zine to fall way behind schedule?
Aug 14 18:56:37 <DesertRose>   No idea.
Aug 14 18:56:40 <DesertRose>   Back
Aug 14 18:57:05 <The_Bee>   Wasn't there some talk of doing it on-line?
Aug 14 18:57:14 <Shiral>   Deryni Tales STARTED as Fanfic.
Aug 14 18:57:21 <Evie>   The last issue came out before I joined the forum, so it's got to be at least...what, 4 years?
Aug 14 18:57:35 <Derynifank>   There are such great stories in the Deryni fanfic
Aug 14 18:57:47 <DesertRose>   Derynifank, Evie, bynw, and I were talking to Julianne (who doesn't make it to chat but used to publish the Deryni Archives Fan Zine) about reviving the fan zine as an online publication
Aug 14 18:58:02 <Evie>   There was, but first Julianne has to be able to retrieve those old submissions, I think, and there was some issue concerning a hard drive problem or something.
Aug 14 18:58:06 <DesertRose>   Since making a paper publication is a pain in the neck and getting a bit cost-prohibitive as well.
Aug 14 18:58:26 <DesertRose>   But yes, Julianne was having some computer issues regarding some old submissions at last report.
Aug 14 18:58:31 <Evie>   So we can't help edit stories until we actually get them.
Aug 14 18:59:13 <Evie>   Yes, postage has gone up quite a bit since the beginning of paper fanzines, so these days a downloadable e-format is much more practical
Aug 14 18:59:33 <Derynifank>   Wonder what those Arilans are up to
Aug 14 18:59:39 <The_Bee>   I'm trying to recall if I sent my submission by snail mail, but Julianne may have entered it on her computer
Aug 14 18:59:44 <Evie>   Probably PDF, since most people can manage to read a PDF file, and free readers are available for them
Aug 14 18:59:58 <DesertRose>   Yes, likely in PDF format for accessibility reasons.
Aug 14 19:00:29 <KK>   I think we've mostly missed our window of opportunity with Julianne for now, as school is starting up again.  But I can drop her a line.
Aug 14 19:00:33 <Evie>   I'd love to know what KK's Arilans are up to!  :-D  My fanfic ones are taking a breather while I attempt to find a job and/or do Mini-Deryni stuff
Aug 14 19:00:58 <KK>   I take it that jobs are thin on the ground right now, Evie.
Aug 14 19:01:16 <Evie>   They are, and transportation issues aren't helping either
Aug 14 19:01:20 <Derynifank>   PDF format is great, most people have the reader
Aug 14 19:01:55 <Evie>   Although if I can get a job close to home, I can get there without too much wear on the car I've got access to, and can afford the repairs to either keep all of them going or finally replace one
Aug 14 19:01:59 <The_Bee>   Can PDF do musical notation?
Aug 14 19:02:19 <DesertRose>   You can scan in musical notation and put it in a PDF, I believe, yes.
Aug 14 19:02:22 <Evie>   I would think so.  It's basically like a scan of whatever is on the page.
Aug 14 19:02:55 <Evie>   So if the software used to compile the material can handle musical notation in some form, it ought to convert to PDF just fine
Aug 14 19:02:58 <The_Bee>   I'll have to fin d out if I can sav e documents in PDF
Aug 14 19:03:53 <DesertRose>   The program that processes the scans from my printer/copier/scanner gives me the option to save as PDF (amongst other formats).
Aug 14 19:04:42 <The_Bee>   MY church choir director recommended a freeware program called Noteflight.
Aug 14 19:04:56 <Evie>   It might be better to send it in some other format (or PDF plus at least one other format) so that the editor can figure out which way to put it in the magazine so they can save the entire thing in PDF form after it's compiled.
Aug 14 19:04:56 <Derynifank>   I have downloaded and printed documents in pdf and i jst have the reader
Aug 14 19:05:17 <DesertRose>   I'm not familiar with Noteflight but it might even give you the option to save the finished sheet music in PDF format.
Aug 14 19:05:22 <KK>   Ach, looking at the time, and think I'd better get back to work.  I'm still digging out from under three weeks worth of mail, plus all the estate paperwork.  And just realized that I won't be here next week, as we have to go to an engagement party for the son of close friends.
Aug 14 19:05:29 <DesertRose>   That's true, too Evie.
Aug 14 19:05:48 <Evie>   OK.  It was good to see you!
Aug 14 19:05:50 <DesertRose>   Okay, KK.  Thanks for coming to visit with us, and we'll see you in two weeks then?
Aug 14 19:05:56 <Evie>   Hope you get unburied from the load soon
Aug 14 19:05:56 <The_Bee>   We're just glad you made it this week.
Aug 14 19:06:09 <Derynifank>   Great to see you kk
Aug 14 19:06:26 <The_Bee>   thanks for coming, KK
Aug 14 19:06:27 *   DesertRose casts a mail-sorting spell for KK.
Aug 14 19:06:56 <DesertRose>   *swish and flick*  :D
Aug 14 19:07:08 <DesertRose>   Wrong fandom. :)
Aug 14 19:07:26 <KK>   So it will be September 11 at 5, unless I have to go back to Florida for opening of the safe deposit box, take 1.  (Which involves inventory of the contents with a bank officer.  And then I have to back a second time to actually take the contents out.  And I already know what's in the box, because I did my own inventory last year--but
Aug 14 19:07:35 <Evie>   I saw a Harry Potter wand shaped remote control you could program to do various things depending on how you swish and flick it
Aug 14 19:07:40 <KK>   that was while I had Power of Attorney.)
Aug 14 19:08:12 <Evie>   They don't let you do both at the same time?
Aug 14 19:08:13 <Shiral>   Swish and Flick could have Harry Potteresque consequences that would only compound the problem=o) KK needs Cary Grant from the Bishop's Wife to sort out all the correspondence!
Aug 14 19:08:22 <DesertRose>   Wow.  Department of Redundancy Department, like whoa.
Aug 14 19:08:37 <KK>   Apparently everything has to be e-filed, these days, so one has to wait forever for court dates and documents.  A learning curve, to be sure.
Aug 14 19:09:08 <Shiral>   That sounds...time consuming and annoying not to just be able to do both things concerning the Safety Deposit Box at once!
Aug 14 19:09:37 <DesertRose>   Especially given the amount of travel time involved getting from Virginia to Florida!
Aug 14 19:09:58 <KK>   I keep hoping that someone will come to their senses, and just get one court order that will enable me to take the contents to the attorney to be dispersed,  Good stocks and savings bonds in there, though, so it's worth the wait.  Just aggravating.
Aug 14 19:10:01 <Evie>   Yes, I'm sure just the travel involved gets pretty expensive! :-(
Aug 14 19:10:09 <Shiral>   But we're glad you could join us today, KK!
Aug 14 19:10:10 <Derynifank>   Also sending a numbers managing spell. Akaric finally devised one so he wouldn't have to spend so much on accts
Aug 14 19:10:24 <KK>   At least the travel gets reimbursed out of the estate.
Aug 14 19:10:27 <DesertRose>   We are indeed glad to see you again, KK.
Aug 14 19:10:40 <DesertRose>   That doesn't make it any less time-consuming.  :)
Aug 14 19:10:52 <KK>   No it doesn't
Aug 14 19:11:02 <KK>   And it's HOT in Florida.
Aug 14 19:11:15 <Shiral>   Hope all goes smoothly with the House Sale down there
Aug 14 19:11:21 <DesertRose>   I made a road trip from Jacksonville to Norfolk VA and back with DD when she was four, and that was enough of an adventure for me, thanks.  :-D
Aug 14 19:11:24 <Evie>   Yes, though at least it should start getting cooler soon
Aug 14 19:11:31 <DesertRose>   Not really, Evie.
Aug 14 19:11:33 <The_Bee>   good luck to you, KK, and wish me good luck too. I have a colonoscopy scheduled for Friday
Aug 14 19:11:36 <Shiral>   Wow, Florida in August....I don't even want to THINK of it!
Aug 14 19:11:38 <DesertRose>   Summer here lasts until about October.
Aug 14 19:11:43 <DesertRose>   Oh, good luck, Bee.
Aug 14 19:11:45 <KK>   At least I can stay with my aunt, who is a whole month older than me.
Aug 14 19:11:54 <DesertRose>   The prep is the worst part, from my experience.  :/
Aug 14 19:12:08 *   DF64 (Mibbit@OWIRCN-98ff2ea3.res.bhn.net) has joined
Aug 14 19:12:11 <Evie>   That helps at least
Aug 14 19:12:12 <DesertRose>   Hi DF64
Aug 14 19:12:12 <Shiral>   Good luck and I hope all the processes you must undergo to conclude the business go as well as possible
Aug 14 19:12:20 <KK>   The procedure is easy-peasy, Bee.  The prep--not so much.  But it's important to get these things checked out.
Aug 14 19:12:20 <Evie>   hi DF
Aug 14 19:12:23 <DF64>   hi all
Aug 14 19:12:25 <The_Bee>   At least I c an sleep through it.
Aug 14 19:12:26 <Shiral>   Hi DF64
Aug 14 19:12:33 <DF64>   sorry about your dad KK
Aug 14 19:12:39 <DesertRose>   Oh yes, definitely important to get it done, Bee.
Aug 14 19:12:45 <Evie>   Yes. Just make sure you've got someone on hand who can get you home afterwards
Aug 14 19:12:52 <Shiral>   Not fun, but important
Aug 14 19:13:11 <Derynifank>   It's hit everywhere right now, heat index was 107 today
Aug 14 19:13:19 <Evie>   Wow
Aug 14 19:13:33 <DesertRose>   That's hot, all right, Derynifank!
Aug 14 19:13:33 <The_Bee>   Yes.  Thgey won't do it unless I have someone to drive me home.
Aug 14 19:13:47 <KK>   My last one, the doctor didn't believe in heavy sedation, so I was awake.  But it was a fascinating tour of my gut.  Truly.  :-)
Aug 14 19:14:04 <DesertRose>   The one I've had, I was out like a light.
Aug 14 19:14:16 <Derynifank>   Really sorry to hear about your Dad KK.
Aug 14 19:14:23 <Shiral>   Well, that's as philosophical an outlook as I've ever heard about the procedure, KK. =o)
Aug 14 19:14:25 <Evie>   Yes, me too
Aug 14 19:14:50 <DesertRose>   But I get to do another one in five years (when I'm 45) because my paternal grandmother died of colon cancer despite having done practically every lifestyle thing you're supposed to do to AVOID colon cancer.
Aug 14 19:14:50 <Evie>   out like a light, that is, not awake for a tour of my gut.  :-D
Aug 14 19:15:00 <KK>   Thank you.  He was 91 and had good innings, and only 3 days on hospice, lucid until the last hour or two, no pain.  We should all be so lucky.
Aug 14 19:15:21 <The_Bee>   that sounds like a sigmoidoscopy, KK.  a semicolonoscopy
Aug 14 19:15:32 <DF64>   my niece is coming to visit me for Christmas
Aug 14 19:15:32 <DesertRose>   And she was only 68 to boot.
Aug 14 19:15:57 <Shiral>   LOL, thank you for the clarification, Evie.  I had a Mammogram a  month ago, and was glad to get the all clear. It was for basic maintainence.  But the Elf of hypochondria WOULD come on those 2:00 am visits with her "what-I?" scenarios
Aug 14 19:16:01 <KK>   No, it was a full colonoscopy, got all the way to the end.  If it weren't for the awful prep....
Aug 14 19:16:38 <The_Bee>   Mammogram on Thursday
Aug 14 19:16:47 <Shiral>   If you have to check out of the Hotel de Vie, that's definitely the way to do it. But still....you'll miss him.
Aug 14 19:17:25 <DesertRose>   LOL, KK, kind of makes me think of the knee arthroscopy I had when I was 21.  I was terrified at that point of general anesthesia so I had a spinal, and since I was nominally conscious (although doped to the eyeballs), the orthopedic surgeon let me take a peek at the camera view of the inside of my knee.
Aug 14 19:17:35 <Derynifank>   The colonoscopy isn't bad, they just need ti do something about that prep
Aug 14 19:17:47 <KK>   Yes, but I'd said my goodbyes the last 3 or 4 visits, knowing it might be the last one.  I got to talk to him less than an hour before he passed.  I'm sure he heard me.
Aug 14 19:18:01 <Shiral>   I'm glad you had that chance
Aug 14 19:18:06 <Evie>   yes
Aug 14 19:18:25 <Shiral>   Hard to have unfinished business with the dead.
Aug 14 19:18:25 <Evie>   Hearing is usually the last sense to go, so chances are good that he did
Aug 14 19:18:28 <The_Bee>   I picked up my prep suplies this morning
Aug 14 19:18:50 <DesertRose>   That's good, KK, that you had the chance to say what needed saying.  *hugs* if that's not too presumptuous
Aug 14 19:19:05 <KK>   Lucky you.  If only it didn't taste so awful.
Aug 14 19:19:13 <Derynifank>   I'm sure he heard you
Aug 14 19:19:17 <KK>   Hugs are always welcome.  Thanks.
Aug 14 19:19:26 <Shiral>   (((KK)))
Aug 14 19:19:29 <Evie>   It's not the taste that's as bad as the departure, so to speak!
Aug 14 19:19:32 <DesertRose>   The prep depends on your doc.
Aug 14 19:19:38 <The_Bee>   Last time they gave me a choice of flavoers. I chose strawberry
Aug 14 19:20:20 <Evie>   It helps cut down on the salty flavor (if yours has one) if you chill it
Aug 14 19:20:20 <DF64>   strawberry is good
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
