Evie

I've got enough stories posted on here now, jumping here and there in terms of chronology, and with a whole slew of characters who weren't in the original novels, so I thought a timeline might be helpful for any latecomers to my stories.  Links included are direct links to each story, or to the opening chapter of multi-chapter stories.

Stories by order of writing/posting:

Anamchara   http://www.rhemuthcastle.com/index.php?topic=459.0   (This story was originally hosted on a Webs.com site, but I have discovered that a glitch has redirected all of the chapter links for Anamchara to a different story, so here is a link to an upload of the complete story in Google Docs:

I'll try to remember to update this as new stories are added, but if I forget, feel free to PM me a kick in the rump.   :D

A few of these stories are also crossposted to http://www.fanfiction.net/book/Katherine_Kurtz/, and I'll continue to upload more there as time permits and if I get enough of a response there to indicate that there's sufficient reader interest in the collection.

Happened upon the fanfic site last week. Very impressive. Have read more than slept since.
I don't just march to the beat of a different drummer...I dance to a beat no one else can hear :)

Evie

LOL!  We'll take that as a compliment, and do our best to keep you sleep deprived!  ;D  Annie & I both have new stories under way at the moment, and hopefully Alkari will get started on a new one once her life slows down a bit, so keep checking back...or better yet, add to the Royal Library if you're so inclined.  :D

Ever thought of weaving these together into a novel, or a novella, to be published as a fanzine?

Evie

Actually, several of my stories are novel-length in and of themselves, so weaving them together into one long publication would result in one heck of a mule-choker.   That would be like trying to bind all of the Harry Potter books into one large volume!  :D  As for being published in a fanzine, there is already an official Deryni Archives fanzine in publication, and I've submitted a story to the editor, but haven't heard back yet if it's been accepted and/or when the next issue is due out.  However, IIRC the fanzine doesn't accept novel-length stories, so some of my longer works wouldn't be eligible for it in any case.

Well, if I were a fanzine editor I'd give serious consideration to a special "All Evie" issue.

Evie

I'm flattered, though perhaps it's for the best that there isn't one, in hardcopy form at any rate.  Pity the poor trees that would have to give their lives for my long-windedness....   ;D

Seriously, though, as a former fanzine co-editor myself, one of the more prohibitive things about producing a fanzine is the expense of printing it and keeping your pricing affordable so you don't end up losing money on the venture by printing up more copies than there is demand for.  The more pages a fanzine has, the more your copying costs go up, so while it's fairly easy to sell an anthology of short stories without having to raise your subscription costs (or the individual issue price) higher than the market will bear, it becomes much harder to do so if you're trying to self-print whole novellas or novels at your local Kinkos or insert-your-favorite-photocopier-shop's-name-here.   Also, with fanfic, there are legal issues involved.  Nothing would stop me from publishing my original novel-in-progress via Lulu or some other print-on-demand publisher, if for some reason I don't sell it to a mainstream publisher, since it's my own intellectual property.  But with fanfic, a writer is playing in some other author's sandbox, and while KK is gracious enough to allow permission for that, it also means that I (and any other writer using her characters and/or setting) can't profit from these stories, and it would be a very bad idea for me to even give the appearance of attempting to sell them for profit.  But as it happens, KK has already has given authorial approval to a specific fanzine publication, which has specific criteria for submissions that include--among other things--length limits.  So hopefully, if the editor of that 'zine will accept a short story or two from me, I'll eventually get at least one of those published "officially," if not my whole collection, given that most of my stories are both too long to fit the 'zine's criteria and also wouldn't work very well on a stand-alone basis.  I have submitted a short story already, but haven't heard anything back from the editor yet, so we'll see.

Oh, believe me, as a Librarian, I understand the intellectual property issues; unless you could somehow 'scrape the serial numbers off' as e.g. Mercedes Lackey and Lois McMaster Bujold have managed to do.  But I don't see how for most of your stories in this fandom you could do so.

DerynifanK

I only found this site late last year? I really enjoy your stories and reading more about favorite kk characters and medieval life. Thanks for your explanation of why Kelson's victory over Wencit was so important. And I loved Maidens of Mayhem. Please keep writing
