Call for Submissions!
« on: November 07, 2015, 09:23:03 pm »
Good greeting!

I am very pleased to announce that Julianne has asked for submissions for the first electronic downloadable issue of Deryni Archives, the Zine!

Please note, Julianne had a computer crash and lost some previous submissions.  She is working to recover this material, but if you want to resubmit something you submitted within the last couple of years that never got published, that might make her life easier.

The submission guidelines are as follows:

Please submit in Times New Roman 14 point font ONLY, typed, double-spaced. Please don't do anything funky with spacing that Julianne or someone on the editorial staff will only have to undo when we do the editing and preparation for publication! Do *not* make nifty cool fonts for your title--that's what the editor/publisher is for!

Please include title, author's first and last name, Rhemuth Castle forum username if applicable, home address, and email address at the beginning of your story.

Rich Text Format please.  Most word processing programs should allow you to save in RTF.

Please send final version of your submission only.

You can send your submission as an attachment to an email, in the body of the email, or whatever you like, to the address Julianne at Kautzlaw dot com.

As far as content, if you think another fan would like to read your story (and we're just as much fans as anyone else!), then go for it.  The only thing we object to is badly-written MarySue stories and anything that violates the forum fanfiction guidelines.  MarySue is used in science-fiction/fantasy fandom to refer to a story (usually a first effort and poorly-written) that is about the author's own self (variously disguised) who can do anything and who usually rescues the characters and then ends up in the sack with at least one of them. We can thank Star Trek fandom for this.... Actually, you notice we said poorly-written MarySues. We don't mind MarySues with the author as a character. Some of us have written them ourselves. Wish fulfillment is all well and good, but the story needs to be well enough written to qualify on its own merits. As long as it the plot makes sense and doesn't suffer from idiot plot (the kind of plot where the characters have to be idiots to make the plot work)....

There is no minimum length.  Come to think of it, there's no maximum either, but please no novella- or novel-length pieces.  That would be impossible to format.  There have been stories as short as a couple of pages and as long as 50 pages typed double-spaced.

The deadline is January 15, 2016.  Publication date to be determined and will be announced here.

The editor—Julianne—sends material off to Katherine, who has final say on what will and will not be included in the zine.  It is, after all, her world. She makes the final determination as to whether or not a story works in her universe.

Please note, you may submit stories that have already been published here on Rhemuth Castle.  Also welcome are poetry, fan artworks (which includes cartoons) and fan-created musical notation.  (If you've written a song, please send sheet music, not an mp3 file.)  If it relates to Katherine Kurtz's works and you made it, you're good to go!  :)

Also please note, contributors whose work is included in the issue will receive a copy of the Zine issue via email and will not need to pay for the download.

"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
