For a friend (Cancer sucks!)
« on: November 06, 2015, 10:18:52 pm »
One of my SCA friends, a truly lovely lady who embodies everything that is good about the SCA and people in general, is battling cancer and has been for some years now.

She is in sufficiently bad shape now that her daughter is posting to Facebook for her that the cancer is back where it started and possibly also in her lungs.  She may not be in decent enough health for another bout of chemotherapy and/or radiation.  The doctors are not giving a time frame, but it does not look good for this dear lady.

This is not bloody fair.  (I know, life just ain't fair sometimes.)  Cancer sucks, and this sweet lady has already been through so much with it.

Please pray/send healing/do whatever you do for this lady and her family and other loved ones.

It really does suck! Prayers from here too.

All four of my paternal aunts had breast cancer.  However, of the three who have passed, all died of something else.  Cancer is serious, but it isn't the automatic death sentence it was just a few decades ago.

Yes, cancer doesn't always have to kill you, but I am deeply afraid in this lady's case, I'm going to have to attend her funeral before too much more time has passed.  She's not gone yet of course, but her daughter said at last writing that she didn't really want to go another round with chemo and radiation, and she might not be robust enough to stand it anyway.

I know a fair few cancer survivors.  Breast cancer particularly is much more survivable than it once was.  I never asked because I thought it an intrusive question, but I believe my friend's troubles started with colorectal cancer, but now she has metastasis into her lungs and several other locations on her body.

But, given this sweet lady (plus both my grandmothers who passed from leukemia in one case and colon cancer in the other), I stand by my statement in the subject line.  Cancer sucks!

I totally agree that cancer sucks and is never fair.  I will keep your friend, her family, and you too, DR, in my thoughts.

My friend hung on longer than I had thought she might, but early this morning, the cancer took her.

She was such a sweet lady.  Her family I'm sure is heartbroken, although of course I'm sure they're not terribly surprised.  No funeral arrangements have been made public yet, which may mean they have not been fully organized, which would make sense given that she hasn't been gone a full 24 hours yet.
