[07:06.32] <DesertRose> Hi KK!
[07:06.34] <Evie> Hi KK
[07:06.35] <Alkari> At least here the fics are well written!   The world of AO3 is dreadful
[07:06.41] <Shiral> Maybe Our muses are hanging out, together Alkari
[07:06.42] <TerryOBrien> Good eveing Katherine!
[07:06.44] <Alkari> Welcome KK
[07:06.45] <Shiral> Hello Katherine
[07:06.45] <KK> Hello, all.
[07:06.47] <Jemler> hi kk
[07:06.51] <Evie> AO3?
[07:06.57] <DesertRose> Archive of Our Own.
[07:07.01] <Evie> ah
[07:07.06] * mib_shjbl3 (Mibbit@OWIRCN-8917fab8.ma.comcast.net) has joined channel #Deryni_Destinations
[07:07.12] <DesertRose> Big multi-fandom fanfic archive.
[07:07.14] <DesertRose> Hi Bee
[07:07.17] <Alkari> The night is dark and full of terrors there ...
[07:07.21] <DesertRose> LOL
[07:07.22] <Evie> fanfiction.net is a mixed bad.  Some good stuff, and some very, very bad
[07:07.27] * mib_shjbl3 is now known as The_Bee
[07:07.29] <DesertRose> Mixed bad?
[07:07.33] <The_Bee> Hi all!
[07:07.40] <Alkari> Exactly Evie.   And at least 85% of it needs a good beta
[07:07.42] <Shiral> There is good fanfic, bad fan fic, and really horrible fanfic
[07:07.42] <Evie> LOL! Mixed BAG.
[07:07.43] <DesertRose> How was your birthday, Bee?
[07:08.01] <Alkari> Lots of cake I hope.
[07:08.04] <The_Bee> quiet, but I gave myself a very nice dinner.
[07:08.16] <Shiral> I think your true feelings are leaking through, about fanfic.net, Evie
[07:08.19] <Aerlys> Hello KK
[07:08.21] <The_Bee> ice cream, no cake
[07:08.24] <DesertRose> That's actually one of my pet typos.  I'm forever typing g when I mean d and d when I mean g, and I don't know why.
[07:08.26] <The_Bee> Hi KK
[07:08.29] <DesertRose> Ice cream is good.
[07:08.40] <KK> Ice cream is definitely good.
[07:08.56] <Evie> There is some truly awesome stuff over at FFN, Shiral, but you do have to sort through the dreck to find it
[07:09.12] <Shiral> Ice cream would have to be made with Kale and Spinach before I'd disavow it. =o)
[07:09.28] <Alkari> It's just that if you are used to quality fanfiction on a site, it comes as a shock to open up some of the really dreadful stuff.
[07:09.33] <Evie> LOL! DH might eat it if it had Kale, since that's his new beloved
[07:09.41] <The_Bee> I had a creme de menthe sundae with chocolate ice cream.
[07:09.44] <Shiral> I know, Evie. There's a lot of stuff that I just have to quit because I can't figure out what the heck is going on in the story.
[07:09.46] <DesertRose> Yes, and my favorite grocery store has Breyers' on buy-one-get-one-free this week, so ice cream is in my near future.
[07:09.54] <Alkari> I have one of those 'bullet' belnders that deals nicely with kale and spinach
[07:10.10] <KK> Bee, that sounds impressive.
[07:10.13] <Alkari> I can put them in veggie drinks and feel healthy
[07:10.22] <Shiral> Kale and spinach for dinner if you insist. But keep it out of my ice cream!
[07:10.32] <Alkari> I'm with you, Shiral  :D
[07:10.35] <The_Bee> chocolate and mint-one of my favorite combos.
[07:10.41] <DesertRose> Alkari, revanne's story is called "Sacerdos in Aeternum," and mine is "The Miracles of Saint Jorian the Martyr."
[07:10.44] <Alkari> Yes.
[07:10.47] <Shiral> It's hard to be that combo, Bee
[07:10.51] <DesertRose> You want to read revanne's first, though.
[07:10.55] <Alkari> OK, will spend happy evening reading them later on.
[07:11.28] <DesertRose> :)
[07:11.34] <Evie> brb, grabbing a Mystery Peep
[07:11.37] <Shiral> Alas, no characters, bossy saints or otherwise, seem to want to talk to me, these days
[07:11.55] <The_Bee> If I were that combo, shiral, would you eat me?
[07:12.06] <Alkari> Our cable provider Foxtel has just started up a new Arts channel, which looks interesting.  I watched 'Singin In the Rain'yesterday - oh, that dancing!
[07:12.09] <DesertRose> revanne gave me the idea, Evie tamed my commas and fixed a few other things, and Aerlys has helped this poor child who grew up Methodist with saint questions.
[07:12.12] <Aerlys> ew, don't like peeps. Mystery ones sound worse
[07:12.13] <DesertRose> Oh lovely!
[07:12.21] <DesertRose> Peeps are overly sweet to me, too, Aerlys.
[07:12.25] <Shiral> Not into cannabalism, Bee, Just agreeing that chocolate and mint are a pretty classic pairing
[07:12.27] <Alkari> Mystery stories = good
[07:12.50] <Evie> back
[07:12.51] <Aerlys> ever do peeps jousting?
[07:12.59] <Alkari> I love chocolate and mint, but hate chocolate and orange
[07:13.03] <KK> Peeps are too sweet for me.  But mint and dark chocolate are top of the list.
[07:13.29] <The_Bee> What's that web page of experiments with peeps and a microwave?
[07:13.31] <Alkari> chocolate-covered ginger too
[07:13.39] <Shiral> Love chocolate and orange together, so I guess I must declare you at least half a Philistine, Alkari
[07:13.47] <Evie> Mystery Peeps are white, and come with several flavors in a box, which makes them more fun for me than regular Peeps (which I generally ignore), since I enjoy being surprised.
[07:13.54] <Aerlys> stick a toothpick in two peeps, place them in the microwave facing each other, and turn it on
[07:14.04] <DesertRose> LOL, Aerlys.
[07:14.07] <Evie> chocolate orange and chocolate ginger are yum
[07:14.14] <Alkari> I love the flavours individually, but for some reason chocolate and orange just don't work together for me.
[07:14.25] <Aerlys> what adolescent boys think up
[07:14.29] <DesertRose> I like chocolate and orange, but I've never tried chocolate and ginger together.
[07:14.35] <The_Bee> The page I'm thinking of had several variations on the theme. Aerlys
[07:14.39] <Shiral> I like maybe a peep every spring, but find marshmallows cloying, in general
[07:14.50] <DesertRose> I like marshmallows on my hot chocolate.
[07:14.56] <Alkari> Yes!
[07:14.57] <Shiral> Never did like S'mores, much
[07:15.03] <The_Bee> chocolate and peanut butter is another yum combo.
[07:15.08] <Evie> World Market has a chocolate bar with crystallized ginger bits in it
[07:15.08] <Aerlys> Well, folks, I need to scoot. Happy Easter all. Will see you in chat in three weeks.
[07:15.08] <DesertRose> oh yes
[07:15.14] <Alkari> scuse ignorance here, but what is a 'peep' in US speak?
[07:15.17] <DesertRose> Okay, have a good one Aerlys.
[07:15.18] <The_Bee> bye Aerlys
[07:15.25] <Alkari> Bye Aerlys.  Happy Easter
[07:15.26] <Shiral> Bye, Aerlys. Hope life calms down, for you
[07:15.33] <DesertRose> It's a little marshmallow chick, usually candy-coated.
[07:15.37] <KK> S'mores are ok if it's dark chocolate; but milk chocolate=yuck!
[07:15.45] <DesertRose> Sometimes they're shaped like bunnies rather than chicks.
[07:15.45] * Aerlys (~ae18c5de@OWIRCN-1bdd9d77.org) Quit (Quit: CGI:IRC)
[07:15.55] <Shiral> They also come in bunny shapes and are coated in brightly colored sanding sugars
[07:15.56] <Evie> It's a chick or bunny shaped marshmallow confection rolled in sugar
[07:15.56] <The_Bee> a maeshmallowy, sugar treat, usually in the form of a bunny or a chick at Easster.
[07:16.07] <Alkari> Ah, OK.  Marshmallow + dark chocolate = yum.
[07:16.10] <Shiral> As if there wasn't enough sugar IN the marshmallow
[07:16.16] <Evie> But it's a very soft sort of marshmallow
[07:16.17] <DesertRose> Right?
[07:16.31] <Alkari> Frankly, I can do without the Easter eggs and bunnies - just give me some quality chocolates!!
[07:16.34] <Shiral> In S'mores you toast the marshmallow, yes
[07:16.36] <DesertRose> Y'all are making me want a sweet, and I have no sweets in my house.  :)
[07:16.36] <The_Bee> no chocolate in a peep, alkari
[07:16.58] <Evie> But you can dip a Peep in dark chocolate
[07:17.04] <KK> But it's in S'mores.
[07:17.13] <Alkari> which we don't have.
[07:17.16] <Shiral> I have a stash of really GOOD chocolate eggs downstairs. But I haven't opened the bag, yet. Waiting for Easter.... or as close as I can get
[07:17.16] <Alkari> Or make!!
[07:17.18] <The_Bee> s'mores are good.
[07:17.22] <Alkari> Unknown out here
[07:17.45] <KK> Which don't you have, Alkari?
[07:18.00] <Alkari> Smores.
[07:18.01] <DesertRose> S'mores are sandwiches of graham cracker, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow.
[07:18.03] <Shiral> Australia is probably the healthier for the lack, Alkari
[07:18.10] <Evie> Peeps are a springtime/Easter tradition here.  Nowadays they have started making Peeps with other holiday themes, but it used to be something primarily found in stores only at this time of year
[07:18.34] <Alkari> Three os us went through a large bag of licorice allsorts at the opera on Saturday night!   Sugar overload.
[07:18.53] <KK> You make them, with toasted marshmallow, graham crackers (plain biscuits), and chocolate, preferably dark.
[07:19.31] <Alkari> Graham crackers are another things that aren'tknown here under that name.
[07:19.42] <DesertRose> There used to be a restaurant here in Jacksonville that had s'mores on the dessert menu.  They brought you the ingredients and a little Sterno can and you made them yourself at the table.
[07:19.55] <Evie> S'mores are often camping treats, since traditionally the marshmallows were toasted over the campfire, but cheater S'mores are made over gas ranges, candles, in the microwave, etc
[07:19.57] <DesertRose> I think they're fairly close in flavor to digestive biscuits, but I'm not certain of that.
[07:19.59] <KK> Pretty much the same as digestive biscuits, except grahams are square.
[07:20.13] <Alkari> I have seen a few packs of imports occasionally, but hard to say what the local equivalent is exactly - probably a plain wheaten biscuit.
[07:20.19] <Shiral> Graham crakcers are a kind of whole wheat, sweet biscuit. Usually in a rectangle shape
[07:20.34] <Alkari> I only ever see them referred to in recipes for pasrty-type crusts!
[07:20.40] <The_Bee> Some people like their marshmallows burnt black.  I prefer mine toasted brown.
[07:20.51] <Alkari> or cheesecake bases.
[07:20.54] <DesertRose> Yes, there are a number of pies that have a graham-cracker crust.
[07:20.57] <Evie> I like a light golden brown
[07:20.57] <KK> I used to successfully substitute crushed digestives for graham crackers when we lived in Ireland.
[07:21.06] <TerryOBrien> It is a fine art to toast a marshmallow without burning it
[07:21.07] <DesertRose> Key lime pie is a favorite here in Florida.  :D
[07:21.16] <KK> Yes!
[07:21.21] <Alkari> Ginger nut biscuits make a yummy crust
[07:21.30] <Shiral> I like mine toasted golden brown and just hot enough to be soft inside
[07:21.35] <KK> BRB
[07:21.36] <DesertRose> Amen to that, Shiral.
[07:21.53] <Shiral> But I still ate even the ones that caught fire. =o)
[07:21.55] <Evie> I bought some Key lime pie for St Patrick's Day. Not that it's Irish, but I just happened to be in the mood for some, so I told myself "Limes are green." :D
[07:21.56] <TerryOBrien> I was pretty good at that once ... haven't been on a campout in decades
[07:21.59] <Alkari> I don't have naywhere TO toast a marshmallow
[07:22.16] <Shiral> Well that's a drawback too, Alkari =o)
[07:22.26] <TerryOBrien> I prefer my vacations indoors these days ... no open fires
[07:22.28] <DesertRose> I used to make them a lot when I was a kid and the house I lived in with my family had a working fireplace (toasted marshmallows, that is).
[07:22.29] <Alkari> Unless I did it over a burner on my gas stove.
[07:22.35] <DesertRose> You could do that, Alkari.
[07:22.36] <Evie> First, create handfire....no, wait.
[07:22.41] <Alkari> LOL
[07:22.42] <DesertRose> My mom and I used to do that a lot.
[07:22.50] <TerryOBrien> "handfire" is a bit of a misnomer
[07:22.54] <The_Bee> gas stove might work. but not electric
[07:22.56] <DesertRose> Or light a candle with your mind.  :D
[07:22.57] <TerryOBrien> all light, no heat
[07:23.02] <Evie> Yeah, that's why it wouldn't work, Terry
[07:23.05] <Alkari> But I'd eat the marshmallows before I got around to toasting them!
[07:23.08] <DesertRose> LOL
[07:23.12] <Evie> That and not being able to make handfire. :D
[07:23.29] <Shiral> I have a fireplace, but I haven't used it since I moved in
[07:23.30] <TerryOBrien> Unless there's a Deryni practical joker who uses handfire for as a replacement for a joy buzzer
[07:23.35] <DesertRose> ROFL
[07:23.44] <Alkari> :D
[07:24.33] <Shiral> That would also require a Deryni whose conscience let them fool around, a little. Can you imagine Joram ever using his powers in a less than high-minded way? =o)
[07:24.41] <Alkari> Or Denis
[07:24.42] <Evie> An impractical practical joke
[07:24.44] * Serian (Mibbit@OWIRCN-b2588d8d.res.rr.com) has joined channel #Deryni_Destinations
[07:24.51] <Shiral> Hi Serian
[07:24.54] <The_Bee> Is it a working fireplace, Shiral?  You might want to have a professional check and clean the chimney before you light a fire.
[07:24.55] <Alkari> Hi Serian
[07:24.57] <Evie> hi Serian
[07:25.00] <The_Bee> Hi Serian
[07:25.03] <Serian> Hi all :)
[07:25.07] <KK> Grrr.  I <thought> I was making a lovely pot of tea to share with my sweetie.  Alas, I forgot to put a teabag in the pot, so wnded up with a nice hot pot.  The water is now re-boiling.
[07:25.16] <TerryOBrien> Deryni are so serious in the books ... just once I'd like to see a Deryni using TK to pinch the waitress
[07:25.23] <Shiral> That's partially why I haven't used it, Bee. Also, either it's been too warm for a fire, or a spare the air day, out here
[07:25.24] <The_Bee> OOPS KK!
[07:25.28] <Alkari> LOL @ KK.   I've done that before!!
[07:25.46] <DesertRose> Hi Serian
[07:25.46] <Alkari> "tea is a bit weak tonight dear ...
[07:25.46] <Serian> Isn't it proper to heat the pot first, anyway?
[07:25.51] <Shiral> You'll know it's properly boiled for certain. =o_
[07:25.53] <Shiral> =o)
[07:26.30] <Shiral> I let one kettle boil dry, which is why I now  have one that shuts itself off
[07:26.32] <Alkari> I have a friend who likes her tea so weak that I once asked her why she didn't just drinnk the hot water!
[07:26.37] <DesertRose> LOL
[07:26.40] <Serian> Deryni using TK to pinch waitresses' bottoms probably led to at least one purge
[07:26.51] <KK> Yes, but I thought I was making tea.
[07:26.53] <DesertRose> Oh dear
[07:26.55] <Evie> "I decided to give up tea leaves for Lent, so this is Lenten tea...."
[07:26.57] <Alkari> She literally just dips the teabag in, counts to 3, then take it out
[07:27.10] <Shiral> Ack! =o(
[07:27.13] <Alkari> You are channelling Denis again, Evie
[07:27.15] <DesertRose> Oh my, Alkari.  I like mine nice and strong.
[07:27.21] <Alkari> Me too DR
[07:27.25] <Shiral> Me three
[07:27.30] * Jerusha (Mibbit@A2BA3E.ADDBBB.113953.D7A2E1) has joined channel #Deryni_Destinations
[07:27.36] <Evie> hi Jerusha
[07:27.38] <DesertRose> My go to is usually either Irish breakfast or Constant Comment.
[07:27.40] <DesertRose> Hi Jerusha.
[07:27.46] <Jerusha> Hi Everyone!
[07:27.49] * Shiral offers round the magic tea pot that will give you all whatever kind of tea you want
[07:27.50] <Serian> It depends on the tea.  Lipton only needs to get within three feet of the pot to be strong enough
[07:27.53] <Shiral> Hi Jerusha
[07:27.54] <Alkari> English or Irish Breakfast here.
[07:28.09] <The_Bee> I seldom drink tea, but I like it strong and sweet when I do.
[07:28.10] <TerryOBrien> Herbal (non-caffinated) for me, alas ...
[07:28.14] <Jerusha> Earl Grey Green Tea
[07:28.22] <Shiral> Russian Caravan for me
[07:28.25] <Alkari> Or a wonderful Assam tea with an impossible name but which is very nice
[07:28.28] <Evie> Lapsang
[07:28.30] <KK> BRB, put just clicked off.
[07:28.32] <Serian> English Breakfast or Rooibos for me
[07:28.36] <Evie> Or Earl Grey
[07:28.37] <TerryOBrien> Caffene and I have an antagonistic relationship
[07:28.37] <The_Bee> Hi Jerusha1  Darjeeling for me.
[07:28.39] <Shiral> Talented tea pot, isn't it? =o)
[07:28.46] <Alkari> Never, ever Earl Grey here.
[07:29.06] <Alkari> Russian Caravan is nice
[07:29.08] <Serian> I like the smell of Earl Grey, but I'm allergic to bergamot
[07:29.22] <Shiral> I'm very fon of it too, Alkarui
[07:29.33] <The_Bee> English Breakfast is also pretty good.
[07:29.35] <Shiral> Alkari. Jeez, I'm cursed with the rented fingers, today
[07:30.07] <KK> Tea is now brewing, for certain.
[07:30.15] <Serian> Congratulations :)
[07:30.25] <KK> Always Earl Grey in this house.
[07:30.47] <Shiral> I love Earl Grey, but also like variety =o)
[07:30.57] <Jerusha> BRB - whippet wants outside
[07:31.01] <DesertRose> Y'all have talked me into putting the kettle on.
[07:31.08] <Shiral> Maybe Gwynedd needs an Earl Gray
[07:31.09] <DesertRose> Constant Comment for me today.
[07:31.20] <Alkari> I have just finished my second mug of coffee, so nothing more at present.
[07:31.24] <Jerusha> Back
[07:31.26] <Evie> I like other teas, but given a choice I'll pick one of my two favorites.  Or peppermint.
[07:31.27] <Serian> Or an Earl of Greystones
[07:31.30] <DesertRose> That was quick, Jerusha.
[07:31.43] <TerryOBrien> Serian: Earl of Greystoke?
[07:31.54] <TerryOBrien> You know who that is, I hope
[07:31.54] <The_Bee> Tarzan's fave
[07:31.59] <Jerusha> She actually wanted the other whippets blanket.
[07:32.03] <Serian> That's a different Earl ;)
[07:32.08] <DesertRose> I have a friend who is a serious tea enthusiast who buys all hers loose-leaf and brews it in this French-press type thing.
[07:32.12] <DesertRose> LOL, Jerusha.
[07:32.14] <Shiral> It never spills when you swing through the jungle on your vine...
[07:32.17] <DesertRose> LOL
[07:32.22] <TerryOBrien> lol
[07:32.22] <Alkari> magic tea cup
[07:32.44] <Shiral> Lidded, I expect. Some commute!
[07:32.48] <Alkari> Jane of course drinks Lady Jane Grey
[07:32.54] <DesertRose> LOL
[07:32.59] <Serian> tarzan with a commuter cup,  what an image
[07:33.06] <TerryOBrien> I should make a joke about loose-leaf tea and three ring binders
[07:33.07] <Shiral> I like Lady Jane too, when I want something milder
[07:33.12] <Evie> I created a smoke-infused darja for my 21st Century Gwynedd
[07:33.18] <DesertRose> Nice, Evie.
[07:33.25] <Jerusha> Interesting
[07:33.31] <Evie> since I wanted a Lapsang counterpart
[07:33.35] <DesertRose> :D
[07:33.39] <Alkari> the smoke of 'what'?!
[07:33.41] <Shiral> So KK, speaking of Darja, would it be similar to say, Jasmine Tea here?
[07:33.42] <Serian> Seeing that we are Holmeses, we balked when we drove past a campaign sign for someone named Moriarity today
[07:33.51] <Evie> pine, presumably
[07:33.53] <DesertRose> LOL, Serian.
[07:34.11] <Alkari> There's a racehorse here called Moriarty.
[07:34.12] <TerryOBrien> It wasn't a travel agency, was it, with trips to Austria?
[07:34.15] <Evie> LOL Serian
[07:34.26] <Alkari> Walking tours around waterfalls
[07:34.31] <Shiral> Final Day at Reichenbach Falls!
[07:34.32] <Serian> I don't want the Napoleon of Crime on our city council
[07:34.32] <TerryOBrien> Or is it election time there, too?
[07:34.58] <Serian> It seems like it's election time every other month
[07:35.02] <DesertRose> I hear that.
[07:35.04] <KK> Darja would be very similar to jasmine.
[07:35.05] <TerryOBrien> Vote for Mister Mistoffolees and get a mouse in every house
[07:35.10] <Alkari> We've just had our State election on Saturday
[07:35.16] <DesertRose> We just had a mayoral race that has gone to a runoff to be voted on in May.
[07:35.23] <Shiral> Thank you. I've been wondering about that.
[07:35.28] <TerryOBrien> Our primaries are in May
[07:35.37] <Evie> I wasn't sure if darja would be more like Jasmine or Darjeeling, since the name could be similar to either
[07:35.37] <Shiral> The Darja, not the runoff election that is
[07:35.45] <The_Bee> Where are you, Terry?
[07:35.46] <DesertRose> LOL
[07:36.01] <TerryOBrien> (mumble mumble mumble) indiana
[07:36.07] <Alkari> I have the graet misfortune to be in a very safe seat for one party, which means we don't get very much attention because they know they don't have to make all sorts of promises and actually DO something for their electorate
[07:36.16] <Serian> My sister lived in Kokomo
[07:36.51] <TerryOBrien> our state leg is gerrymandered
[07:36.54] <Serian> We have a governor who bought his way into office, and now he wants to be president.  If he gets elected, I'm leaving the country.
[07:37.06] <DesertRose> BRB, kettle
[07:37.20] <TerryOBrien> Which governor? There are several that meet that specification these days
[07:37.20] <Shiral> That's why I enjoy playing in the lands of royalty.
[07:37.29] <Shiral> Or letting my mind play there at least
[07:37.37] <Alkari> Yes - absolute monarchy solves thos problems!
[07:37.37] <Jerusha> I agree, Shiral
[07:37.42] <Serian> Scott Walker, aka Mr. prosperity for the already prosperous
[07:37.52] <Shiral> Of course, you do hope to be in the land of the Haldanes and not the Festils. =o)
[07:37.59] <Alkari> Been watching a good BBC series on the Plantagenets and all their machinations
[07:38.05] <Jerusha> Oh yes, of course
[07:38.07] <DesertRose> That must be interesting, Alkari.
[07:38.08] <Jemler> which governor, serian?
[07:38.10] <Serian> I'm afraid our state is the land of the Festils
[07:38.14] <Evie> brb must walk. Leg asleep thanks to Kitteh Dearest
[07:38.16] <TerryOBrien> You have my sympathies .. I have friends in Wisconsin so I am kept up to date about politics there
[07:38.19] <Alkari> Which state is that?
[07:38.23] <Serian> Wisconsi
[07:38.25] <Serian> N
[07:38.45] <TerryOBrien> I'm in Indiana which just legalized discrimination if you claim its based on your religion
[07:38.48] <Shiral> Yes, I could see how that would be discouraging, Serian
[07:38.48] <Jemler> i'm voting hillary!
[07:39.03] <Jemler> i'm an atheist. screw it!
[07:39.05] <Alkari> Hillary or hilarity?
[07:39.14] <DesertRose> Yes, I've kept up on that, TerryOBrien.  So very discouraging.
[07:39.16] <TerryOBrien> Very big mess and a lot of negative publicity
[07:39.18] <Evie> OK, back. Which series, Alkari?
[07:39.20] <DesertRose> Oh, I bet.
[07:39.22] <Shiral> Would that be the Hollow Crown?
[07:39.24] <Serian> I'd like to vote for None of the Above
[07:39.31] <Alkari> No, it was a documentary series
[07:39.37] <Jerusha> I'd like to see the Plantagenets
[07:39.52] <DesertRose> Serian, did you ever see Brewster's Millions?  (Film from the 80s starring Richard Pryor)
[07:39.55] <Shiral> Ah. Well, in the Hollow Crown, I think Tom Hiddleston would make a good Rhys
[07:39.56] <Jerusha> I'll have to see if DH can download it
[07:39.58] <Evie> I'll have to see if I can find it
[07:40.03] <Serian> Oh, a very long time ago
[07:40.09] <TerryOBrien> GenCon is threatening to go somewhere else than Indy after their contract is up in 2020.
[07:40.23] <Jemler> he had to spend $30m to get #300m, right?
[07:40.33] <Serian> It already left Milwaukee, Terry, so they go where the money is
[07:40.40] <DesertRose> Yes, and so he ran a political campaign for None of the Above.
[07:40.47] * The_Bee (Mibbit@OWIRCN-8917fab8.ma.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: +http://www.mibbit.com, ajax IRC Client)
[07:40.55] <Jemler> by bee
[07:40.56] <DesertRose> Bee must have gotten Mibbited.
[07:40.58] <TerryOBrien> They go where the space is ... and I don't anywhere that has the space GenCon needs
[07:40.59] <Shiral> Oops. Bee has been stung
[07:41.06] * montezuma (Mibbit@OWIRCN-8917fab8.ma.comcast.net) has joined channel #Deryni_Destinations
[07:41.18] <DesertRose> It was being very mean to revanne earlier, although that may have been her connection and not Mibbit per se.
[07:41.21] <Jemler> bee got mibbiten
[07:41.21] <Jerusha> Bee?
[07:41.24] <DesertRose> Hello again Bee
[07:41.30] * montezuma is now known as The_Bee
[07:41.30] <TerryOBrien> I followed GenCon from Lake Geneva through Milwaukee to Indy ... hate to see move again
[07:41.37] <Jerusha> Bee is Montezuma
[07:41.42] <Shiral> That's another form of "Montezuma's Revenge" then. =o)
[07:41.47] <DesertRose> LOL
[07:41.49] <Jerusha> 's revenge?
[07:41.53] <Alkari> That must be its name of the day Bee - I go offered Montezuma when I logged in to mibbit
[07:41.58] <Serian> Oh, I remember when they were in Lake Geneva!
[07:42.11] <Shiral> When people get sick in Mexico, it's called "Montezuma's Revenge
[07:42.14] <The_Bee> Jemler, I clicked on your link and it took me out of chat and told me I'd just joinedthe 300. What did I join??
[07:42.16] <TerryOBrien> Been a long time ago
[07:42.25] <Shiral> It's usually a form of stomach upset and the trots
[07:42.27] <Jemler> what link?
[07:42.31] <Jerusha> You may be a Spartan now, Bee
[07:42.32] <Serian> Ages ago
[07:42.33] <Alkari> You joined the 300 Spartans of course
[07:42.45] <Shiral> That's about the army Greece can afford lately
[07:42.47] <The_Bee> the one in your last post befroe I vanished.
[07:42.50] <Jemler> i didn't post a link
[07:42.54] <Alkari> And will die gloriously defending the city
[07:43.12] <DesertRose> Oh, I know what happened, Bee.
[07:43.13] <Jerusha> You might have to bulk up, Bee :D
[07:43.16] <Shiral> There's something to be said for modern life =o)
[07:43.16] <Alkari> Unless you do a runner and try to raise the alarm
[07:43.28] <DesertRose> Jemler posted a # when he meant to post a $ and that will try to take you to another channel.
[07:43.47] <DesertRose> That is, if you post #deryni_destinations, it will present a link to this channel.
[07:43.56] <The_Bee> so what is the 300?
[07:44.16] <DesertRose> It doesn't exist, but the only thing you have to do to create a channel on IRC is to join it.
[07:44.19] <Serian> We have to boil our water today because of a water main break from our well, so we're back to not so modern life
[07:44.25] <Jemler> ah, a typo. my bad
[07:44.28] <Jerusha> They defended the pass at Thermopoley
[07:44.40] <Alkari> Spartan warriors who died to the last man defending their city
[07:44.43] <DesertRose> You can register it with the server if you want it to stick around.
[07:44.51] <The_Bee> I was afraid I'd just joined some lunatic organization.
[07:45.01] <Jerusha> Ummmm
[07:45.06] <DesertRose> No, just a random, not-really-existent channel on the network.  :)
[07:45.08] <Shiral> Well....it MIGHT still fit the 300  =o)
[07:45.09] <Alkari> Plenty of movies about it - nice if you want to watch lots of male muscles and hunky chests!
[07:45.17] <DesertRose> LOL, Alkari.
[07:45.21] <Jemler> Bee, I resemble that remark!
[07:45.26] <Shiral> Yes. Good scenery at least
[07:45.29] <The_Bee> "Go, tell thwe Spartans that we lie here in obedience to their laws."
[07:45.44] <TerryOBrien> And everyone forgets the Athenian volunteer fleet that totally defeated a larger opposing force to keep the enemy reinforcements from landing
[07:45.52] <Alkari> Yes.  Classed as an Eye Candy movie
[07:46.08] <Alkari> Oh, they were out of sight, out of mind, terry!
[07:46.23] <TerryOBrien> No, they didn't hve as good publicists
[07:46.44] <DesertRose> I think we've either bored KK or she's gone to attend to her teapot.  :D
[07:46.56] <Alkari> Like everyone forgets that Harold of England only lost to William the Conqueror because he had marched back in a hurry from wallopping HarALd of Norway
[07:46.56] <TerryOBrien> Priorities
[07:47.00] <KK> I just got back from my teapot.
[07:47.09] <Shiral> We haven't bombarded her with enough questions, maybe?
[07:47.11] <Serian> Brewing takes time
[07:47.12] <Alkari> is it brewing nicely, KK
[07:47.24] <KK> Tis brewed, and lovely.
[07:47.27] <DesertRose> YAY!
[07:47.33] <Shiral> Dang...
[07:47.37] <Serian> I actually had thought of a question yesterday, and then I had a senior moment
[07:47.38] <Jerusha> Can you imagine if Harold had not lost....
[07:47.49] * Shiral fights....the...tea....urge.....
[07:47.54] <Alkari> Yes, that would have been 'interesting'
[07:48.06] <Jerusha> Or if Richard III had not lost
[07:48.08] <The_Bee> no Plantagenets, for one thing.
[07:48.13] <TerryOBrien> Maybe an independent present-day Ireland
[07:48.14] <Alkari> He came so very close
[07:48.23] <Evie> Speaking of Harold and William, DH found a nice little wall hanging (about a yard long and maybe 15" tall) with a design inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry
[07:48.27] <KK> Richard III just got a nice funeral.
[07:48.39] <Serian> History is full of "we came THAT CLOSE" moments
[07:48.39] * Jemler offers Shiral some tea, with apple brandy
[07:48.43] <Alkari> Yes.  Though I wish he had been able to get buried in York.
[07:48.43] <Shiral> Nicer than his original certainly
[07:48.52] <TerryOBrien> History and sports, too
[07:48.57] <Jerusha> I tend to agree, Alkari
[07:49.05] <Evie> I want to look up some of the video footage about the funeral
[07:49.06] <Alkari> That was 'his' city
[07:49.13] <Shiral> Thanks, Jemler. ALthough I was thinking about the stuff I can actuallly make in my kitchen. But the kitchen is downstairs
[07:49.23] <Alkari> Or bury him with other English kings in Westinster
[07:49.26] <Evie> meant to do that this weekend, but with MIL's arrival it's been busy
[07:49.28] <Serian> It's a nice city, or it was 40 some years ago
[07:49.45] <Jerusha> Must go to England, someday
[07:49.46] <Alkari> People tend to forget what an able rule Richard was.
[07:49.59] <Serian> They just remember Shakespeare
[07:49.59] <Alkari> He even kept the peace along the Scottish border for many years
[07:50.07] <The_Bee> Shakespear did a number on him.
[07:50.10] <Shiral> He'd make an interesting Haldane..
[07:50.19] <Serian> As did the Goodbye Girl, lol
[07:50.21] <Alkari> "History is written by the victors"and all that
[07:50.28] <Jerusha> Yes, he did. But it was the popular stance at the time
[07:51.10] <Alkari> I remember, zillions of years ago, hearing a great BBC radio play called "a good word for Richard III" - it was in the form of a trial
[07:51.58] <Alkari> And even back then, they had to come up with the Scottish verdict of "not proven" re the Princes' murders
[07:52.09] <The_Bee> What was the verdict?
[07:52.20] <Alkari> "Not proven".
[07:52.28] <The_Bee> asked and answered
[07:52.30] <Jerusha> The prince's murders are still a mystery
[07:52.44] <Alkari> Which is not available in most jurisdictions but was (at least at that stage) in Scotland
[07:53.24] <DesertRose> I honestly don't think RIII did murder the princes in the tower, nor do I think he had it done, simply because I think he was smart enough to know that it would have the devastating political consequences that their disappearance had.
[07:53.28] <Alkari> As I understood it, it allowed you to be prosecuted again if further evidence came to light
[07:53.28] <The_Bee> Henry VII had a motive.  By legitimizing their sister so he could marry her, he made the older boy king of England.
[07:53.38] <Shiral> Benedict Cumberpatch will play RIchard III in the next Installment of the Hollow Crown
[07:53.41] <Alkari> Agree Bee and DR
[07:53.51] <Alkari> And so did Buckingham
[07:54.07] <The_Bee> Have you read The Sunne in Splendour?
[07:54.16] <Alkari> AND Henry VII went about killing off any possible Plantagenet claimants
[07:54.24] <Alkari> Yes.  Great book.
[07:56.04] <The_Bee> But wwithout the Tudors we wouldn't have had Elizabeth I.
[07:56.05] <Alkari> If you want two good Wars of the Roses books, look up the pair by Rosemary Hawley Jarman - We Speak No Treason (Yorkist and Richard-centred) and The King's Grey Mare (Lancastrian, around Elizabeth Woodville)
[07:56.34] <DesertRose> I read a trashy romance novel years ago with a Yorkist slant that suggested that Margaret Beaufort (Henry VII's mother) had the Princes killed to both mess things up for RIII and to clear the way for her son.
[07:56.35] <Alkari> And have a large box of tissues handy for the second one!
[07:56.40] <Jerusha> My book list is growing....
[07:56.54] <Alkari> How would Margaret have had access to them?
[07:57.21] <Serian> She wouldn'tve needed access if she ordered them killed by others who did
[07:57.23] <DesertRose> She hired someone.
[07:57.41] <Alkari> But they were alive AFTER her son was killed
[07:58.04] <Alkari> Oh sorry - you mean Henry's mother
[07:58.08] <DesertRose> Yes.
[07:58.14] <Alkari> Muddled with the other one.
[07:58.37] <Alkari> I don't know - the princes woudl have been protected by both Richard and the Woodville clan
[07:58.41] <Jerusha> For all life was hard, you might be safer if you were not royalty
[07:58.52] <Alkari> Because he left the Woodvilles basically alone
[07:58.56] <DesertRose> Well, it was a trashy romance novel, not a well-researched historical theory.  :D
[07:59.01] <Alkari> LOL.
[07:59.03] <Serian> It's like being born with a target tattooed all over your body, being Royal
[07:59.10] <DesertRose> Indeed.
[07:59.18] <Alkari> Certainly it was if you were a Plantagenet
[07:59.36] <Jemler> trashy romance novel, 50 shades of earl grey?
[07:59.42] <DesertRose> Not that bad.
[07:59.47] <Serian> You inherit enemies you didn't even know existed
[07:59.50] * Alkari gets frozen trout ready to throw
[07:59.56] <TerryOBrien> 50 Flavors of Earl Grey
[08:00.14] <Shiral> For a second I read that as "He left the WHOvilles basically alone."
[08:00.21] * Jerusha soaks smelt in green tea
[08:00.42] <Alkari> Think I'd have rather been one of the nobles.
[08:00.57] <The_Bee> The Whovilles had Horton to protect them.
[08:01.02] <Alkari> Or perhaps just from a wealthy merchant family!
[08:01.05] <Shiral> If you're going to live at any point before 1800, best to be of the nobility!
[08:01.06] <Alkari> even safer
[08:01.24] <Serian> At least the gentry
[08:01.33] <TerryOBrien> As long as you weren't a wealthy Jewish merchant family, methinks
[08:01.45] <Jerusha> Not in England
[08:01.52] <Serian> Especially during the Inqusitions
[08:03.20] <TerryOBrien> And on that note I need to go prep supper ... its been too long since dinner at noon today
[08:03.31] <TerryOBrien> Good night all
[08:03.41] <Jerusha> Bye TerryOBrien
[08:03.42] <Serian> Enjoy your food, and goodnight
[08:03.46] <Alkari> Night Terry
[08:03.48] <Jemler> what time is it there terry?
[08:04.03] <DesertRose> Night, TerryOBrien.
[08:04.03] <Shiral> Night, Terry
[08:04.06] <Jerusha> I must go, too. Spent all day doing income tax, and now must catch up on all the other stuff I didn't do
[08:04.10] <DesertRose> Night, Jerusha.
[08:04.18] <Shiral> Night, Jerusha
[08:04.18] <Evie> goodnight
[08:04.18] <Jemler> nite jerusha
[08:04.18] <Serian> Bye, Jerusha
[08:04.18] <The_Bee> bye terry. glad you came
[08:04.20] <Jerusha> But thanks for adding to my reading list!
[08:04.22] <Jemler> nite terry
[08:04.23] <TerryOBrien> Almost 8 and I'm hungry
[08:04.28] <KK> Yep, stuff to do.
[08:04.32] <Alkari> Bye Jerusha.  Don't have post-tax nightmares!
[08:04.39] <Jerusha> Oh, I will!
[08:04.42] * TerryOBrien (~TerryOBrie@4CA975.D94A1D.D61925.805DDB) Quit (Quit: )
[08:04.50] <Shiral> My appointment is next week..NOT looking forward to it!
[08:04.59] <Jerusha> Nighers all!
[08:05.00] <Alkari> what's that for Shiral?
[08:05.02] * Jerusha (Mibbit@A2BA3E.ADDBBB.113953.D7A2E1) Quit (Quit: +http://www.mibbit.com, ajax IRC Client)
[08:05.06] <Shiral> Taxes, Alkari
[08:05.11] <Alkari> Ah, OK.
[08:05.12] <KK> NOt sure what family plans will be for next week, as it's Easter, but hopefully I'll be able to be here at 5.
[08:05.20] <Serian> I'm glad I finished those months ago
[08:05.21] <Evie> OK
[08:05.23] <DesertRose> Okay.
[08:05.31] <KK> Take care, all.
[08:05.33] <Evie> BTW, revanne said hi
[08:05.34] <Shiral> Bye, KK
[08:05.36] <DesertRose> Okay, we'll hope to see y ou then!
[08:05.40] <DesertRose> Bye, KK!
[08:05.42] <Jemler> first sunday next week. right.
[08:05.42] <Serian> Goodnight, LL
[08:05.43] <Serian> KK
[08:05.45] <Evie> She just couldn't stay up late enough this week, since their time just changed
[08:05.48] <Serian> Dang
[08:05.48] <Alkari> Our tax year ends on 30 June, so a few more months yet
[08:05.48] <Jemler> nite kk
[08:05.50] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
[08:05.54] <The_Bee> thanks for coming, KK. Hope to see you next week.
[08:05.55] <Alkari> Bye KK
[08:06.02] <Shiral> Night, KK
[08:06.02] <DesertRose> THanks for coming to see us, KK!
[08:06.06] <KK> Nighters.
[08:06.07] <Alkari> See you next weekend, Happy Easter.
[08:06.15] <The_Bee> happy easter
[08:06.16] <Shiral> Happy Easter
[08:06.16] * KK Quit (Quit: +http://www.mibbit.com, ajax IRC Client)
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
