[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:05:56 PM] <The_Bee> Hi KK!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:06:01 PM] <KK> Hello, all.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:06:05 PM] <Evie> Hi, KK
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:06:21 PM] <Evie> I knew those DQ Blizzards would work!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:06:53 PM] <jemler> hi kk
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:07:29 PM] <bynw> hiyas KK
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:07:58 PM] <DesertRose> Hi KK!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:08:27 PM] <KK> So, what's everyone up to?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:08:38 PM] <KK> Evie, I like the new gown for Helena.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:08:43 PM] Join DF64 has joined this channel (Mibbit@4CA975.06D306.BECEE2.AC4E37).
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:08:58 PM] <DF64> 12hi all
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:08:59 PM] <jemler> hi df
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:09:02 PM] <DesertRose> Hi DF64.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:09:08 PM] <Evie> Thanks! I've been wanting to try that style of Viking apron dress for a while
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:09:18 PM] <The_Bee> Weel, I've been asked if I'd be interested in playing a flute solo in church sometime.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:09:35 PM] <DesertRose> I am tired. I have been on a site walk-through for a couple of upcoming SCA events for which I'm on staff.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:09:45 PM] <Evie> The fabric I made it from was part of a leftover scrap from a 1:1 version of the same gown that someone at an SCA event last year was working on.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:09:48 PM] <KK> Good on the flute request, Bee!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:10:04 PM] <DesertRose> Traipsing around a campsite in the blazing heat is not relaxing. :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:10:05 PM] <Evie> I just bought the buttons I plan to use for the little brooches.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:10:32 PM] <DF64> 12walking outside in the blazing heat is never relaxing
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:10:34 PM] <DesertRose> Cool, Bee.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:10:34 PM] <Evie> That's cool, Bee!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:10:36 PM] <The_Bee> I hope it's fairly simple. Most of what I've been playing is my own stuff.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:11:21 PM] <DF64> 12Just 2 weeks before all new episodes of "Once Upon a Time"!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:11:55 PM] <KK> Yes, and just two more episodes of Outlander.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:11:56 PM] <Evie> Our houseguest came down with a head cold and fever yesterday, so we have Medieval Penicillin (homemade chicken soup) in progress, and since she's in the SCA, we've been making plague jokes all day
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:25 PM] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:37 PM] <DesertRose> (to the plague jokes, not to the sickness itself)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:41 PM] <Evie> The littles got her some red cloth to hang in the windows (although that's for smallpox, not plague), and I bought the ingredients to make a Vinaigre des Quatre Voleurs to ward off the plague.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:41 PM] <jemler> "Bring out your dead!"
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:51 PM] Join Jerusha has joined this channel (Mibbit@DD8CB6.5E6C59.A668A0.9C1443).
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:52 PM] <The_Bee> We've had some really appalling news here in Massachusetts. A woman has been arrested; three dead infants were found in her house, along with vermin, bugs and dirty diapers piled 2 feet high.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:54 PM] <DF64> 12Just had the outside of my dad's house painted
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:56 PM] <Evie> It will come in handy as a nice salad vinaigrette later
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:12:57 PM] <jemler> hi jerusha
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:04 PM] <The_Bee> Hi Jerusha
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:06 PM] <DesertRose> Hi Jerusha.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:06 PM] <Evie> ewww!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:09 PM] <Evie> Hi, Jerusha!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:12 PM] <DF64> 12hi jerusha
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:13 PM] <DesertRose> Oh, that is appalling, Bee.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:23 PM] <Evie> The "eww" was in response to Bee's news, btw, not Jerusha's entrance. ;-)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:26 PM] <Jerusha> Hi Everyone!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:32 PM] <DF64> 12i heard about that woman
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:37 PM] <KK> Dreadful, Bee.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:50 PM] <Jerusha> Thanks, Evie :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:13:57 PM] <The_Bee> The neighbors are shocked; the never noticed.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:14:08 PM] <DesertRose> OMG
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:14:12 PM] <Evie> You'd think some of the smell would have leaked out after a while
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:14:16 PM] <DesertRose> You would think.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:14:30 PM] <Evie> the neighbors must not live right next door
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:14:32 PM] <Jerusha> Or the woman would have looked suspicious
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:14:44 PM] <The_Bee> It did. Authorieties visited it to clean the trash in the yare, but they never went inside.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:14:47 PM] <Jerusha> Unkempt, to say the least
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:15:16 PM] <KK> Were all 3 infants hers?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:15:24 PM] <Jerusha> Hard to fathom what was going on in her head
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:15:25 PM] <The_Bee> We don't know.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:15:55 PM] <The_Bee> 4 living children were removed a while ago, but no birth records for 2 of them.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:16:04 PM] <DesertRose> Holy cow.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:16:14 PM] <Jerusha> Awful
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:16:20 PM] <DF64> 12some people should never have children
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:16:54 PM] <The_Bee> The same woman posted that very message on her Facebook page.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:17:18 PM] <Jerusha> That's weird
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:17:19 PM] <DesertRose> Wow.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:17:27 PM] <The_Bee> someone called it an extreme case of hoarding.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:17:38 PM] <Evie> Hoarding DIRTY DIAPERS???
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:17:48 PM] <Evie> Yes, hard to be more extreme than that!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:18:31 PM] <jemler> she hoarded dead bodies.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:18:34 PM] <KK> We make people have licenses to drive a car, and to get married, but not to have children.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:19:11 PM] <The_Bee> Among other things, she being charged with concealing deaths. She'd held without bail.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:19:17 PM] <DesertRose> Well, how would you regulate it? Who makes the decision as to who is fit to be a parent?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:19:31 PM] <Jerusha> In general, the children are supposed to be covered by the marriage license
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:19:47 PM] <jemler> that football guy who decked his fiance, some religious idiot claims it was because they violated gods rules of marriage.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:19:48 PM] <The_Bee> good question. A lot of parenting is trial and error.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:19:49 PM] <DesertRose> I mean, I totally agree that some people do not have any business having kids, but who makes that decision?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:19:59 PM] <Evie> I can almost understand hoarding the dead bodies, at least for someone with a mental illness, if they were her babies. But I can't imagine not being able to part with dirty diapers, even for someone with extreme hoarding issues.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:20:47 PM] <DesertRose> It really is appalling.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:20:55 PM] <The_Bee> or at least wash them
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:20:57 PM] <KK> brb
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:20:58 PM] <jemler> so if DD goes missing...-
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:21:09 PM] <Jerusha> ???
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:21:22 PM] Quit DF64 has left this server (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:21:37 PM] <DesertRose> Did Mibbit get DF or did we gross him out?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:21:47 PM] <Jerusha> I'm not sure....
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:21:49 PM] <Evie> I think he got Mibbited
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:21:49 PM] <The_Bee> did DF jump or was she pushed?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:21:56 PM] <DesertRose> I think DF is a he.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:22:01 PM] <Evie> He is
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:22:06 PM] <Jerusha> Yep
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:22:30 PM] <The_Bee> okay, he.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:22:34 PM] <DesertRose> Because he has emailed me and signed off with a masculine first name. :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:22:49 PM] <The_Bee> That's a good clue.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:22:50 PM] <Jerusha> And he has a goatee, IIRC
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:22:54 PM] <DesertRose> :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:23:13 PM] <Evie> I just discovered in the fabric stash that Laurna sent me that I have some green/white/black mini-plaid fabric, so I think I'm going to be making a kilt, some trews, and maybe some other items in McLain colors soon.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:23:16 PM] <The_Bee> You've met him, Jerusha?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:23:24 PM] <Evie> Maybe an arisaid for Dhugal's lady as well
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:23:31 PM] <DesertRose> Oh, nice, Evie.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:23:42 PM] <jemler> what is an arisaid?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:23:43 PM] <Jerusha> No, but in chat once I think it was mentioned
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:23:57 PM] <The_Bee> Would Dhugal wear McLean colors or Mac Ardry colors now?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:23:59 PM] <Evie> It's like a rectangular shawl, usually made of tartan
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:24:11 PM] <Evie> or in the pre-tartans era, of a plaid fabric
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:24:28 PM] <Evie> He's the Duke of Cassan now, so presumably the McLain colors
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:24:35 PM] <Jerusha> I believe Scots women always wore their plaid when going out
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:24:40 PM] <jemler> i thought it was a gossip column 'arri said...'
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:24:43 PM] <Evie> although I can see him wearing Transha colors too, especially if visiting Transha
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:25:10 PM] <DesertRose> I would think it would depend on the situation which he would wear, yes.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:25:23 PM] <Evie> I've received mail from DF, and his first name on the return address is male.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:25:35 PM] <jemler> male what?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:25:36 PM] <Jerusha> I think he would be happy wearing Transha plaid from time to time
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:25:52 PM] <Evie> Male human, presumably, jemler. ;-)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:01 PM] <Evie> I mean, I've never seen the guy, so he could be a half-elf
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:04 PM] <Evie> But I doubt it
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:05 PM] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:15 PM] <The_Bee> which half?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:16 PM] <KK> I'm back.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:21 PM] * Jerusha looks for a fish to throw at Jemler
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:22 PM] <The_Bee> rehi, KK
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:42 PM] <Evie> If I can find my Transha colors plaid, I'll make some Transha trews and a kilt out of that fabric too
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:26:58 PM] <KK> Evie, I'm thinking that men's handkerchiefs might be a source for tiny plaid fabric.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:00 PM] <Evie> and an arisaid for Ailidh, since she's a MacArdry
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:04 PM] Join DF64 has joined this channel (Mibbit@4CA975.06D306.BECEE2.AC4E37).
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:06 PM] <Jerusha> Transha trews has a ring to it...
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:13 PM] <jemler> wb df
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:13 PM] <DesertRose> WB, KK, and WB DF64.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:21 PM] <Kelric> man I'm in the semester from down under right now...
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:23 PM] <Evie> True, but I'd have to buy several to get an outfit from handkerchiefs
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:25 PM] <DF64> 12bad mibbit in my case
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:26 PM] <Jerusha> wb, DF64
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:36 PM] <Kelric> or is that down below...
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:39 PM] <Jerusha> Evil mibbet
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:40 PM] <KK> I think Dhugal might wear most any good, muted plaid, especially in trews.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:41 PM] <DesertRose> I was wondering about that, DF.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:27:48 PM] <The_Bee> Does anyone know the name of a style of traditional Highland women's dress? I read about it years ago, but I can't recall.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:28:03 PM] <KK> Arisaid.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:28:21 PM] <DF64> 12it's happened before the last 2 times i was here
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:28:22 PM] <The_Bee> a dress, not just a shawl.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:28:24 PM] <DesertRose> Are you talking about the lace-front bodice dress that's open down the front of the skirts?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:28:38 PM] <Evie> It can be worn wrapped around the body as well as just as a shawl, IIRC
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:28:52 PM] <The_Bee> maybe; I'd have to find the book at the library again.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:28:52 PM] <Evie> Or are you talking about the leine?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:29:04 PM] <The_Bee> leine?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:29:11 PM] <jemler> bee http:\\lindaclifford.com
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:29:13 PM] <The_Bee> is that like a shift?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:29:27 PM] <Evie> It was like an underdress or undershirt with very full sleeves, often dyed saffron
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:29:50 PM] <The_Bee> Jemler, the link need forward slashes.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:29:54 PM] <jemler> http://www.lindaclifford.com/
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:30:01 PM] <Evie> usually made from linen, I think, though that's not a culture whose costuming I'm all that familiar with, so i could have the details wrong
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:30:45 PM] <KK> Look at Outlander, if you can, though that's late, SCA-wise--Georgian. But good kilts with the top part hanging down, There's a lot of controversy about early Scottish dress. Certainly, the kilts did not have the pleats sown down.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:30:54 PM] <Evie> I want to finish Helena's apron dress first, now that I have the notions together to complete it.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:31:20 PM] <Jerusha> That's a very nice dress, Evie
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:31:24 PM] <Evie> No, the pleats have narrow bands of Stitch Witchery. At least in 1:6. ;-)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:31:44 PM] <The_Bee> I read somewhere you could infold the kilt and use ait as a blanket.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:31:44 PM] <Evie> Thanks, Jerusha
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:32:00 PM] <Evie> Yes, if it's a traditional Great Kilt, you would be able to do that, Bee
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:32:38 PM] <jemler> what if it's a traditional not-so-great kilt?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:32:51 PM] <Jerusha> Then it's a pillow
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:32:58 PM] <Evie> If it's a 1:6 scale kilt made from a large rectangle of plaid shirt fabric, it's best to press the pleats in or it won't hang right and look like a kilt, just like a tangle of fabric gone horribly wrong.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:33:27 PM] Quit DF64 has left this server (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:33:36 PM] <DesertRose> Mibbit is not being nice to DF today.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:33:42 PM] <Jerusha> Mibbit got DF again
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:33:44 PM] <jemler> mibbit!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:33:49 PM] <The_Bee> What's mibbit got against DF64?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:33:53 PM] <DesertRose> No idea.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:33:56 PM] <Evie> Bad Mibbit, no houseflies!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:33:59 PM] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:34:15 PM] <KK> The traditional great kilt was laid out over a belt on the floor, with the pleats arranged by hand, and then the wearer would like down on it with belt at waist level and fasten the belt, stand, and arrange the pleats further. Which is why someo9ne eventually got the idea to stitch the pleats, at least at the waist.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:34:28 PM] <The_Bee> KK, how's your vision now?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:35:14 PM] <DesertRose> I can imagine that would be a colossal pain in the neck to get dressed that way. :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:35:16 PM] <Evie> The mini-Great Kilt is also stitched at the waist, but the Stitch Witchery helps keep the pleats looking more like pleats than gathers.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:35:40 PM] <KK> Operated-on eye is better than 20/20. I've still got the double-vision, of course, though at computer-distance, it isn't too bad, since I still have the old lens in the right eye.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:35:51 PM] <DesertRose> Yay!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:35:52 PM] <The_Bee> almost as bad as having your stays laced up so tight you can barely breathe.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:36:21 PM] <Jerusha> When is your next surgery, KK?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:36:51 PM] <KK> Can't wait until October 2, though, to get the other eye done. Healing is wonderful. We went to a movie today--Magic in the Moonlight--and I watched with clear vision, though I mostly kept the right eye closed most of the time.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:37:04 PM] <Evie> I could make some medieval medicinals for you, KK. :-D (Were you already logged on when I was talking about that?)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:37:25 PM] <KK> For the guest with the plague? Yes.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:37:40 PM] <The_Bee> one eye of newt, one frog's leg...
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:37:40 PM] <Jerusha> A guest with the plague?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:37:55 PM] <DesertRose> Evie has a friend visiting who has come down with some kind of yuk. :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:38:04 PM] <Evie> More like a cold and fever, Jerusha, but she's in the SCA too, so we've been making plague jokes
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:38:19 PM] <KK> No complaints for now. I just have to be patient. Down to one kind of drops twice a day, rather than two drops 4 X a day. That's a definite improvement.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:38:21 PM] <Jerusha> Hope she feels better soon.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:38:45 PM] <Jerusha> Or he, as the case may be
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:39:14 PM] <Evie> Sister Therese has prescribed her Vinaigre des Quatre Voleurs as a preventative tonic, and since we needed some of the herbs for the chicken soup anyway, I figured I'd actually make some, put some in a miniature bottle for my Mini-infirmary's stock of medicinals, and save the rest to drizzle on salad greens.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:39:31 PM] <DesertRose> On the topic of vision, I have new eyeglasses! I'm so happy with them. I can see again and they weigh a lot less than my old glasses so it's almost like not wearing glasses.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:39:44 PM] <Jerusha> Excellent, DR
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:39:45 PM] <The_Bee> good for you!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:40:09 PM] <DesertRose> My old frames were very pretty but kind of heavy compared to these new ones, which are plainer in design.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:40:12 PM] <Jerusha> Sounds like "one for you, one for me," Evie
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:40:18 PM] <jemler> when i got new glasses i was so good looking i could hardly stand myself!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:40:22 PM] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:40:23 PM] <Evie> I'm enjoying the last of my contact lenses, although once this pair wears out, I'll need to go back to my glasses until I can afford another two boxes of contacts. (I can't just buy one box, since my eyes need different prescriptions.)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:40:52 PM] <Evie> we could hardly stand you either, jemler. Still can't. ;-)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:40:55 PM] <The_Bee> pre-surgery, my glasses were extremely thick.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:40:55 PM] <DesertRose> Contact lenses drove me nuts when I tried to wear them. I felt like my eyes were always dry and irritated.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:41:00 PM] <jemler> 2 scripts? 1 for your husband and 1 for your kids?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:41:04 PM] <The_Bee> same here, Dr.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:41:32 PM] <bynw> never tried contacts and probably never will don't fancy the idea of putting something in my eyes
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:41:32 PM] <DesertRose> I think I could handle them if I weren't indoors in air conditioning so much, because I think the A/C tends to dry the air too much.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:41:35 PM] <Jerusha> I gave up on contacts due to dryness from sitting at a computer
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:41:46 PM] <The_Bee> I wore contacts for 2 years in high school, but they never felt comfortable.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:42:07 PM] <Evie> I've never really had much of a problem with them. They do get a bit dry from time to time, but I just keep the rewetting drops handy
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:42:15 PM] <DesertRose> I've thought about getting some just for SCA events, because even though they are even less period than modern glasses, you have to be up close and personal with someone to know they're wearing them.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:42:34 PM] <The_Bee> Mine were hard contacts; maybe it would have been better if I'd waited for soft.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:43:01 PM] <DesertRose> I had soft ones and I didn't mind putting them in, but they just annoyed me because my eyes got SOOOO dry.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:43:04 PM] <Evie> Soft contacts are much easier for most people to get used to. Many people never feel comfortable with the hard ones, although I had no problem with those either
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:43:16 PM] <Evie> aside from them being ridiculously easy to lose and then break underfoot
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:43:19 PM] <Jerusha> I've had both, but it didn't make a difference
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:43:30 PM] <The_Bee> now they have extended-wear contacts. or disposables
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:43:46 PM] <Evie> I have extended wear multifocal lenses
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:43:57 PM] <Jerusha> Now I would have to have bifocal contacts
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:44:06 PM] <DesertRose> Also, I have an astigmatism in addition to near-sightedness, and that makes my contacts a bit pricey, or at least they used to be. Maybe they're less expensive now. It's been about 10 years since I tried to wear them.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:44:10 PM] <Jerusha> Do they work, Evie?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:44:20 PM] <The_Bee> I have multifocal , but i prefer a second pair for reading.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:44:23 PM] <Evie> They adjust for distance, midrange, and near viewing, so I never have to have reading glasses unless I'm reading ridiculously tiny text, or in low light, or need to thread a needle.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:44:49 PM] <DesertRose> Threading needles is a pain anyway. :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:44:58 PM] <The_Bee> Cataract surgery did away with my ability to read fine print.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:45:01 PM] <Jerusha> Easier to take off my glasses than to pop a contact to thread a needle :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:45:09 PM] <KK> I started with hard lenses, wore them reasonably successfully for a number of years; switched to gas-permeable ones when they became available, which were a serious improvement. I did then try soft lenses, but by then I was starting to have the double-vision problem, though I dodn't know that was what it was at the time; just wasn't getting as good a
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:45:10 PM] <Evie> When I do need the reading glasses with them, I usually can get by with the lowest level glasses.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:45:31 PM] <jemler> move the thread to the needle, not needle to the thread! hope this helps.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:45:37 PM] <KK> correction anymore. So I have up and went to glasses. Never got used to handling the soft lenses, though.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:45:38 PM] <DesertRose> KK, you got cut off at "just wasn't getting as good a"
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:45:42 PM] <DesertRose> Oh, there you are.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:45:56 PM] <The_Bee> I use a metal needle-threader.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:46:17 PM] <KK> Bee, you need reading glasses for reading fine print. That's common. And I'll have glasses for close work.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:46:23 PM] <DesertRose> jemler: :P :P :P
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:46:30 PM] <KK> Even last night, trying to thread a needle was problematical.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:46:44 PM] <DesertRose> Oh, I can imagine, KK, being half-done with the cataract surgery.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:46:49 PM] <Evie> KK, how are your Mini-Deryni settling in?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:47:18 PM] <The_Bee> My double vision lasted over a year after I had the second eye done.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:48:24 PM] <KK> Evie, I honestly haven't had a chance to unpack the mini-Deryni properly yet. I want to clear a shelf for them, above my desk, where they'll have room for a room.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:48:45 PM] <The_Bee> and where thecats won't knock them off.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:49:00 PM] <KK> Definitely that, Bee.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:49:03 PM] <DesertRose> I still haven't packed up the garb from Coronation (which was the same weekend as Dragon*Con). It's all clean but not put away yet.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:49:10 PM] <Evie> A room shelf would be nice. A room box would be even better...more walls to decorate!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:49:19 PM] <The_Bee> I you can reach it, the cats can reach it.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:49:33 PM] <DesertRose> Cats can reach anywhere they decide they want to.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:49:34 PM] <Evie> I was reading something about making a panelled wall look from different layers of cardstock
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:49:35 PM] <DesertRose> :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:49:42 PM] <Evie> or poster board would work too. Or thin cardboard
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:50:07 PM] <Evie> Mat board would be even better (like the sort used to frame pictures)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:50:14 PM] <KK> I'll start with some simple furniture, I think. And maybe a folding screen or two.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:50:54 PM] <Evie> A top shelf of a bookcase could work, and with a glass or acrylic door, could be made cat-proof.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:51:04 PM] <DesertRose> Or at least cat-resistant.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:51:29 PM] <Jerusha> I can see Evaine now: "What is that giant paw print on our door?"
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:51:33 PM] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:51:40 PM] <Evie> I had a 25 gallon aquarium I seriously considered turning into a room with transparent walls, only it's just a bit too small.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:51:52 PM] <DesertRose> Aw, that's a bummer, Evie.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:52:26 PM] <Evie> "That's the giant feline that sat on my face last night, Evaine. Keep the door closed!"
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:52:30 PM] <jemler> how did youi fit in there!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:52:33 PM] <DesertRose> ROFL
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:52:35 PM] <Jerusha> Caeriesse beneath the sea?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:53:07 PM] <Jerusha> Ah, that explains the fur in your hair
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:53:12 PM] <DesertRose> :D
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:53:37 PM] <Evie> Seriously, there are a lot of old wooden bookcases that have become recycled into 1:6 scale dollhouses just because they are a convenient size for doll display.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:54:06 PM] <Jerusha> If it works for the littles, it works for me
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:54:19 PM] <DesertRose> That could be a ridiculously large dollhouse, depending on the size of the bookcase.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:54:29 PM] <KK> BTW, Desert Rose, I saw your new glasses on facebook, and I like them! Almost rimless, aren't they?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:54:44 PM] <DesertRose> They have very fine gray metal rims.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:54:48 PM] <DesertRose> But not quite rimless.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:54:50 PM] <DesertRose> Close, though.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:55:48 PM] <Evie> This, for instance, looks like it started out as a bookcase with a top floor added: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/406098091371059104/
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:56:18 PM] <DesertRose> That's pretty cool, Evie.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:56:20 PM] <KK> Yeah, my computer glasses rims are very narrow silvery, and almost disappear. I now have permission to wear eye makeup again, but I think I"m going to have to rethink things a lot, because new glasses definitely will be more minimalist without the thick lenses.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:56:26 PM] <Evie> My lenses are thick enough that I can't use the rimless or half-rimless styles, although I can use very thin frames. They just have to go all the way around the lenses.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:56:51 PM] <DesertRose> You said "bookcase" and I immediately thought of the six-foot-tall, five-shelf numbers I have.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:57:04 PM] <DesertRose> So I was thinking rather a large doll display. :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:57:23 PM] <Evie> That would work for me! I need a castle. :D
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:57:35 PM] <Jerusha> Yes, a castle is needed!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:57:35 PM] <KK> Hmmm, you have me thinking. I have a deep drawer that came out of my dressingroom....
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:57:38 PM] <DesertRose> My lenses aren't that thick, but I don't like the way the rimless and half-rims look for some reason, so I went with fine-rimmed glasses.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:57:43 PM] <jemler> you could've bought kk's
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:57:57 PM] <Evie> http://www.pinterest.com/pin/245094404691935364/ That's made for GI Joes, so also action figure size
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:58:21 PM] <Jerusha> I like that, Evie!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:58:26 PM] <DesertRose> That's a gorgeous dollhouse.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:58:38 PM] <The_Bee> fake tudor
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:58:55 PM] <Evie> Scott's not going to thank me if he ends up with an entire 1:6 manor house inside his real house, is he, KK? ;-)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:58:59 PM] <DesertRose> Yeah, I think that style is called half-timbered, but I could be mistaken.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:23 PM] <KK> Yike, gotta run. I want to see that multi-part series about the Roosevelts on PBS, starts now.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:34 PM] <DesertRose> Okay, have a good week, KK. Thanks for coming to see us! :)
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:37 PM] <jemler> half-timbered? what was the other half made from?
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:39 PM] <bynw> have a good night KK
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:42 PM] <jemler> nite kk
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:44 PM] <The_Bee> thanks for coming, KK! have a good week.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:45 PM] <KK> ?me steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:46 PM] <Jerusha> Thanks for coming, KK. Have a great week!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:47 PM] <Evie> And I need to get back to my potions. Darn, that soup is beginning to smell awesome, but it's not simmered long enough yet!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [07:59:57 PM] <KK> Ta-ta for now.
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [08:00:01 PM] <DesertRose> Night, KK!
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [08:00:03 PM] <Evie> It's the fresh rosemary, I think
[Sunday, September 14, 2014] [08:00:05 PM] Quit KK has left this server (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
