[18:03] <Jemler> hi kk
[18:04] <@Evie> Hi KK!
[18:04] <Annie> hi KK
[18:04] <BalanceTheEnergies> Good. Comp is in for repair must use phone.
[18:04] * Shiral scuttles about baiting the author traps with ice cream except for the South which is baited with crispy bacon
[18:04] <Jemler> nice timing evie
[18:04] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hi KK
[18:04] <Shiral> Well all be darned THAT worked really well. Hello, KK
[18:04] * Jemler heads south
[18:04] <@Evie> I'm all for bacon in the South, Shiral
[18:05] <TerryOBrien> Good evening Katherine
[18:05] <Shiral> Earth water and air make it really hard to get the bacon crispy. But St. Michael
[18:05] <Shiral> 's fire does the job nicely
[18:05] <Annie> LOL Shiral
[18:05] * mib_6o2fur (Mibbit@OWIRCN-44259e73.ma.comcast.net) has joined #deryni_destinations
[18:05] * Jerusha (Mibbit@OWIRCN-1b1d81e2.dsl.bell.ca) has joined #deryni_destinations
[18:05] <BalanceTheEnergies> & it would melt the ice cream
[18:05] <Jemler> hi bee, jerusha
[18:05] <mib_6o2fur> Hi Jerusha
[18:05] <Shiral> Hi Bee and Jerusha
[18:05] <KK> Hello, all.
[18:05] <@Evie> St. Michael's Fire sounds like it could be the title of a TV series.
[18:05] <Jerusha> Hi Everyone!
[18:05] <mib_6o2fur> And HI Shiral
[18:05] <Shiral> It does, doesn't it?
[18:06] * mib_6o2fur is now known as The_Bee
[18:06] <KK> Terry, it's been a while.  Hello.
[18:06] <@Evie> Either that or the Gwyneddan nickname for some STD
[18:06] <TerryOBrien> I've been rather busy on Sunday evenings
[18:06] <Shiral> That would lead to an  uncomfortable confession session with your father confessor
[18:06] <TerryOBrien> But the summer should be more open
[18:06] <Jemler> EVIE SAID THAT, NOT ME!!!
[18:07] <The_Bee> What have you been doing on sundays, Terry?
[18:07] <@Evie> KK, Joram has arrived in the mail.  His head, anyway.
[18:07] <Annie> LOL Jemler!
[18:07] <@Evie> :D
[18:07] <Jerusha> Did the rest of him come, too?
[18:07] <TerryOBrien> By the way, I saw this earlier this week: http://www.blackgate.com/2014/07/12/old-favorites-katherine-kurtzs-deryni/
[18:08] <@Evie> Well, he came on his original body, but it doesn't even have proper bendy legs, much less proper joints.
[18:08] <Shiral> Evie's Body Shop is open for business
[18:08] <The_Bee> Evie is planning a miraculous resurrection for the beheaded Joram.
[18:08] <Jerusha> So you didn't end up with a head on your pillow
[18:08] <Jerusha> An extra one, that is
[18:09] <@Evie> No, I put the head out of Gigi's reach, or I could very well have ended up with it on my pillow.  Or under the couch.  Or by the bathroom door.
[18:09] <The_Bee> Gigi the Paw?
[18:10] <Shiral> Don't mind the severed heads, it's just Gigi playing, again..."
[18:10] <Jemler> Gigi killed the Action Fugure
[18:10] <KK> Oh, lovely, Evie.
[18:10] <@Evie> Hang on, I have pictures of him
[18:11] * Shiral snaps fingers and sets up a table with scones, clotted cream and strawberries
[18:11] <KK> Terry, I'll have to read that.
[18:11] * Jerusha passes a plate of lemon tea cakes
[18:11] <@Evie> Cool webpage, btw, Terry
[18:12] <@Evie> Hm. Flickr says I set this for private, even though I didn't.  Can any of you see this link?  https://www.flickr.com/gp/9573389@N08/7e40M9
[18:12] <TerryOBrien> I follow the website for things just like that
[18:12] <The_Bee> Terry, I too have noticed the parralels between the Deryni world and the X-Men's world.
[18:12] <@Evie> I've had major issues with Flickr's app lately.  I couldn't upload for three days.
[18:12] <Shiral> Yes, I can see it
[18:13] <Annie> I can see it.
[18:13] <Jerusha> I can see it, though I wonder what Joram will think about sunglasses
[18:13] <@Evie> https://www.flickr.com/gp/9573389@N08/64K918
[18:13] <TerryOBrien> Judy Tarr said she based the characters in one of her novels on "Marvel's Merry Mutants".
[18:13] <@Evie> He'd probably be glad for sunglasses on sunny days, but he doesn't get to keep them.
[18:13] <KK> Excellent!  A hamdsome Joram.
[18:13] <The_Bee> Joram looks deceptively mile for a warrior priest.
[18:13] <@Evie> In fact, I've already cut them off so I could wash his hair properly
[18:14] <@Evie> and get the stiff styling gunk out
[18:14] <@Evie> He won't look so mild once he's in full armor, Bee
[18:14] <Shiral> Surfer Joram... nope, does't really fit his image
[18:14] <Jerusha> And poor Camber was wondering if he could use them for scrying
[18:14] <@Evie> LOL
[18:14] <Shiral> "how odd, the world has gone dark..."
[18:15] <Jerusha> Must be an eclipse
[18:15] <Annie> He's got a McDonald nose!
[18:15] <@Evie> KK, should Joram's eyes be blue or gray?  In person, I think they're a grayish-blue currently.
[18:15] <Jemler> his future's so bright he had to wear shades.
[18:16] <KK> I think they're grey enough, Evie.
[18:16] <@Evie> I need to take a photo of him next to Evaine, since I think there is a purely accidental family resemblance.
[18:17] <@Evie> https://flic.kr/p/fU6gaj
[18:17] <Jerusha> I don't think Camber thought it was an accident ;)
[18:18] <TerryOBrien> He looks kinda like a Gerry Anderson puppet character
[18:18] <Shiral> I'm pretty sure Lady Jocelyn didn't either
[18:18] <@Evie> LOL!  Let's hope it wasn't an accident for them!  I was meaning in terms of my planning for a resemblance.
[18:18] <Shiral> No, DNA probably doesn't work with dolls
[18:18] <The_Bee> There may be a general resemblance amond action figures in general
[18:19] <The_Bee> among
[18:19] <Annie> doll DNA. LOL
[18:19] <@Evie> There are a limited range of head sculpts, so it's easy enough to match two male heads or two female heads, but the resemblance between a Galadriel Barbie head and a Fashion Fever Ken is purely accidental
[18:20] <@Evie> Yes, Bee, when it comes to Mattel heads.  Not so much with real action figure heads, since a lot are sculpted to resemble particular celebrities.
[18:20] <Jerusha> Fashion Fever Ken becomes Michaeline Joram..*shocked*
[18:20] <Shiral> "I had no idea I looked like a Tolkien Elf!
[18:21] <The_Bee> It makes sense that joram would be darker; he spends more time outdoors.
[18:21] <@Evie> He's already giving me problems, though. He's got the older style Ken head, the same sort Alaric has.  So in addition to finding a body that's the right color to work with him, I've also got to figure out how to modify his head to fit on it without ruining it.
[18:21] <Jemler> do something to deflate his ego. that might help.
[18:22] <Jerusha> Alaric nudges Joram *duck and run*
[18:22] <@Evie> Yes.  That and Kens tend to be slightly darker than Barbies, and Galadriel Barbie is about as pale as Barbie gets.  Most are more tan than she is, but she's meant to be an elf, so they  made her nearly white.
[18:23] <KK> I do see a family resemblance between the two.
[18:23] <@Evie> In other news, DH got the job!
[18:23] <Jerusha> Yea!
[18:23] <The_Bee> speaking of elves, have any of you read Terry Pratchett's Lords and Ladies?
[18:23] <Annie> YAY!
[18:23] <Annie> *muppet flail*
[18:23] <The_Bee> Congrats to DH
[18:23] <Jerusha> When does he start, Evie?
[18:23] <@Evie> Tomorrow
[18:23] <Shiral> Yippee, congrats to DH, Evie
[18:23] <KK> Woo-hoo!  That's great news!
[18:23] <Annie> wow, no hanging around then.
[18:24] <The_Bee> Jemler, any word on the Rewalk?
[18:24] <BalanceTheEnergies> Congrats
[18:24] <Jerusha> Has DH found a place to live?
[18:24] <TerryOBrien> That's very good news
[18:24] <@Evie> Which means I'm probably heading out with him right after chat for a celebratory dinner...and to break the news to our SCA group "Drop dead deputy" seneschale, since this will mean he'll have to step down and give her the position.
[18:24] <@Evie> He has, Jerusha. Last night.
[18:25] <@Evie> It's a house that had a room for rent.
[18:25] <Jerusha> Guess he can't do the SCA position from a distance?
[18:25] <@Evie> since it involves leading the meetings on nights when he won't be here, no
[18:25] <Jemler> not yet. i want to find a place that's closer, with dialysys.
[18:25] <The_Bee> So you'll be moving?  Does that mean DS won't be able to live at home while he's in college?
[18:26] <@Evie> I'll be staying here.  DH only works 4 days a week and gets 3 day weekends.  And DS is gearing up to live on his own closer to campus.
[18:26] <The_Bee> good for DS
[18:26] <Jerusha> A right of passage, for DS
[18:26] <@Evie> but DD is in high school two more years, so we're not moving any earlier than that, if ever
[18:26] <Jerusha> Bet he comes home for dinner from time to time :)
[18:27] <Shiral> And laundry
[18:27] <@Evie> Since DS works 5 minutes away, he's already informed me that he plans to come home often for dinner and laundry privileges before returning to his apartment. :D
[18:27] <The_Bee> What's DH's commute?
[18:27] <@Evie> 1.5 hours, which is why he won't be driving back and forth daily.
[18:27] <Shiral> So you'll be able to lay eyes on him sometimes
[18:28] <Shiral> That would be hard, yes
[18:28] <Jerusha> I know people who make that kind of commute every day
[18:28] <Jerusha> But I wouldn't want to do it
[18:28] <Shiral> In the Bay Area a LOT of people do, but it's less because of distance than it is because of sloooow traffic
[18:30] <@Evie> It would be a major pain, with gas prices being what they are
[18:31] <Shiral> Definitely
[18:31] <@Evie> Oh!  While heading back from TN last weekend, I got this at a gas station, of all places!  https://www.flickr.com/gp/9573389@N08/By71s7
[18:31] <The_Bee> Someone (here in Mass. I think, has worked out how to recycle used cooking oil as fuel.
[18:32] <Jerusha> Nice find, Evie!
[18:32] <KK> Cool.  Is it the right scale for your horses?
[18:32] <Jemler> my neice graduated from nursing yesterday. she has an interview tomorrow. i think it's with one of my doctors.
[18:32] <Shiral> I ALWAYS buy tiny saddles at the gas station
[18:32] <The_Bee> neat! do you have a horse it will fit?
[18:32] <Shiral> Good luck to her, Jemler
[18:32] <@Evie> It's not medieval, but if it fits the horse and figures right, I could use it to get an idea of how large a saddle tree will need to be for a scratch-built medieval saddle
[18:32] <Jerusha> Yes, Jemler.  Good luck
[18:32] <@Evie> I have several 1:6 horses
[18:33] <KK> It could certainly be altered to look medieval, starting with cutting off the roping horn.
[18:33] <Jemler> put themon a merry-go-round.
[18:33] <@Evie> cool, jemler! Hope she gets the job, if it's a good fit for her
[18:33] <Shiral> Appropos of nothing, I've forgotten how Francesca drools when she's enjoying attention. I've been stroking her into a coma of bliss and she's living up to her nickname of Drool Queen
[18:33] <Jemler> i'll ask tomorrow
[18:33] <@Evie> Alaric's not planning on roping any Torenthi invaders, is he? ;-)
[18:34] <Jerusha> Hope she doesn't short out your keyboard, Shiral
[18:34] <KK> Cool, Jemler.  The best of luck to her.
[18:34] <Shiral> Nope, she's facing away from it
[18:34] <@Evie> lol, Shiral
[18:34] <Jerusha> Good plan
[18:34] <Jerusha> Alaric would need a cowboy hat
[18:35] <The_Bee> Is Dmitri leaving Francesca in peace?
[18:35] <Shiral> Deryni in the Old West... interesting cross-pollination of worlds...
[18:35] <Shiral> For the moment
[18:35] <@Evie> Alaric came with a fedora, but that's not the same
[18:35] <KK> Change the stirrup leathers.
[18:35] <Shiral> He's sunning himself by the bedroom door
[18:35] <Jemler> at least, as a knight, he has his own spurs.
[18:35] <Jerusha> Alaric?  Oh, Dimitri :)
[18:35] <@Evie> Luke is staring intently at chat
[18:35] <The_Bee> Are there pics in the pets gallery, shiral?
[18:36] <Shiral> Now I have this silly vision of Alaric and Duncan as cowboys..
[18:36] <@Evie> Specifically at KK's sentence that starts with "It could certainly be altered to look medieval...."
[18:36] <Shiral> There's one of each cat, Bee. But you might have to go back a page or two
[18:36] <@Evie> I had a silly dream once of them wearing Harley Davidson biking leathers
[18:37] <Jerusha> Oh my! (Tries not to drool like Francesca)
[18:37] <@Evie> Duncan's jacket was studded with a cross in back, and I think Alaric's had a gryphon
[18:38] <Shiral> If Alaric were sunning himself by the bedroom door, I wouldn't be in the chat room except to say with incoherent excitement "Alaric Morgan is sunning himself in my bedroom!!"
[18:38] <The_Bee> appropriate
[18:38] <@Evie> LOL!!!
[18:38] <Annie> Merry is sitting by the laptop now. Right next to the bit where the warm air comes out.
[18:38] <Shiral> But he never calls, and never writes..... Neglecting me, he is
[18:39] <Annie> Or *would* come out, if there wasn't a little cat curled up right there.
[18:39] <@Evie> If Duncan were sunning himself by my bedroom door, I wouldn't be in the chat room, I'd be fixing the roof, since that's the only way he could manage to sun himself by my bedroom door. :D
[18:39] <BalanceTheEnergies> Wimsey & Morshi are napping on my bed.
[18:39] <The_Bee> warm air? not air-conditioned?
[18:40] <The_Bee> Melantha's around somewhere.
[18:40] <@Evie> And Duncan, I hope, would be fixing that malfunctioning Transfer Portal!
[18:40] <Annie> I have an old laptop which runs very hot, and she makes it worse by sitting by the outlet.
[18:40] <Shiral> Cats are not great respectors of computers
[18:40] <@Evie> Do you have a laptop fan for it, Annie?  The sort that goes underneath to help cool it?
[18:41] <Annie> It has the built in fan, which runs pretty much constantly.
[18:41] <Annie> I just need a new laptop, basically. This one is old and heavy and preparing to keel over.
[18:41] <The_Bee> Just don't let it catch fire.
[18:42] <Jerusha> Maybe Merry can push it over the edge
[18:42] <@Evie> When do you get the final chapters to your editor, Annie?  She sounded like she was about to hyperventilate wanting to know what happens next!  LOL!
[18:42] <Jerusha> I'm about to hyper ventilate wanting to know what happens next!
[18:43] <@Evie> Yeah, Jerusha, but Karen was so beside herself after a certain chapter, she posted a major spoiler on Google + by accident and had to go back and fix it.  :D
[18:43] <Annie> LOL. Poor Karen. :)
[18:43] <Jerusha> Now that makes the wait worse!
[18:44] <The_Bee> Is that where your sories are? Google+?
[18:44] <Annie> How major a spoiler!! I nearly died when I saw that!
[18:44] <The_Bee> stories
[18:44] <@Evie> KK, do you know if The King's Deryni will come out with the cover art pictured on Amazon, or is that a holding cover?
[18:44] <@Evie> Bee, Google+ is something like Facebook.
[18:44] <Annie> No, that's just my social network of choice, Bee. And where I met the very wonderful person who's editing for me.
[18:44] <The_Bee> ah. ok
[18:45] <KK> No, that's the cover--which apparently is more of a Big Book cover.
[18:45] <The_Bee> so where are your books available?
[18:45] <@Evie> Only on Facebook, usually you friend people who you know, and communities are secondary. On G+, usually you friend or follow people you have interests in common with, whether or not you know them in real life or other places online.
[18:45] <Annie> Jerusha, she posted publicly what happens at the end of book 2. I could have *killed* her!
[18:46] <@Evie> [cover] OK, that will make it easy to spot then.  :-)
[18:46] <Annie> Amazon, currently, Bee
[18:46] <The_Bee> thanks.
[18:46] <Jerusha> Ah, I see.  So no hint about what's happening next in book 3 (drat)
[18:46] <Shiral> I've got mine preordered and paid for. All I have to do is wait for it to arrive
[18:47] <Jerusha> It is such a long wait.
[18:47] <Annie> Mine's preordered too, but I don't think I pay until it comes out.
[18:47] <Shiral> We just have to keep ourselves entertained until then, Jerusha
[18:47] <@Evie> So you pay at time of preorder?  That's good to know.  I may preorder in that case.  Though if the money doesn't come out of the account until the book is ready to ship, I'll wait.  I don't want to risk funds coming out of my account the day before payday, and being overdrawn.
[18:47] <The_Bee> My sister gave me an Amazon.com gift card for last Christmas
[18:48] <Shiral> I realized I'd gone ahead and paid when I ordered two items that are already available. But what the heck. Don't see much difference in paying now or later
[18:48] <@Evie> Oh, I love Amazon gift cards!  They rarely last long in my hands.
[18:49] <BalanceTheEnergies> I don't have the disposable income now, but itIs on my wish list.
[18:49] <Shiral> This cover art is rather a departure from the first two CM books
[18:49] <@Evie> Maybe you will be the time December comes around, BTE
[18:49] <@Evie> Or that gives you several months to save up for it.
[18:49] <The_Bee> or put it on your Christmas list.
[18:50] <Jerusha> Are the crest above the shields on the cover a bit unusual?
[18:50] <Jerusha> Crests, I should say
[18:50] <BalanceTheEnergies> Well, Evie, I'm preoccupied with raising funds to move.
[18:50] <Shiral> Alaric Morgan, Crest Kid?
[18:50] <Jerusha> You are moving, BTE?
[18:51] <BalanceTheEnergies> My building was sold & new mgrs not bthe best. Also the tub is higher than my knees & I may have RA.
[18:52] <Jerusha> Have you found a new place?
[18:52] <The_Bee> Ouch! I know what arthritis feels like.
[18:52] <KK> I had enough trouble explaining heraldic terms to the artist, who initially had the two critters facing one another.  I had to point out that, though the art would balance better that way, my fans would Not Be Happy.
[18:53] <BalanceTheEnergies> Old office bldg is being remodeled & I like their "ADA studio" w/ walk in shower.
[18:53] <@Evie> LOL
[18:53] <KK> I decided not to push my luck with the crests.
[18:53] <Jerusha> Good, BTE
[18:53] <@Evie> yes, every fan who knows her heraldry from her handbasket would be in arms...so to speak
[18:53] <Jerusha> Ah, OK. At least it wasn
[18:53] <Shiral> One of the first Deryni covers that doesn't have a person on it
[18:53] <Jerusha> 't just me
[18:53] <BalanceTheEnergies> Their voicemailis full & I have no price yet. Current lease ends in Sept.
[18:54] <Jerusha> So you have some time, BTE
[18:54] <The_Bee> good luck, BTE
[18:54] <Shiral> Having a walk in shower is very nice. I hope it all works out, BTE
[18:54] <@Evie> the walk in shower sounds like that would be ideal for you
[18:55] <BalanceTheEnergies> Not enough on my wages. Hope Modest Needs can give me a grant, or else I win a sweepstakes.
[18:55] <Shiral> Rising rents really put the squeeze on a budget
[18:56] <The_Bee> I'm lucky to live in supported housing. My rend is 1/3 my monthly income.
[18:56] <The_Bee> rent too
[18:56] <KK> Of course, to win a sweepstakes, one must Buy A Ticket. :s
[18:56] <The_Bee> Publisher's clearing house is free to enter.
[18:57] <Annie> So *that's* where I've been going wrong.
[18:57] <BalanceTheEnergies> In re the heraldry, I like the whole rule breaking colour-on-colour of the maternal  (Deryni) contribution to Alaric Morgan's arms.
[18:57] <Shiral> That's kind of a crucial step. Especially if you don't have a Ducal Palace to live in
[18:57] <KK> That sounds good, Bee.
[18:57] <Shiral> I'm very happy to be paying a mortgate rather than rent
[18:58] <KK> It was fun explaining what flory-counter-flory was, even when I told them to look at the Scottish arms.
[18:58] <@Evie> I think the way the artist did the slight color gradation in the gryphon helps make it more visible than a flat green on black.  I always wondered how that would show up at a distance on a field, but with that shading of greens, I can see it working better.
[18:58] <BalanceTheEnergies> I play a lot of pch games and such. I hate the adverts, but it's not costing me money to play, & I don't expect a pay raise.
[18:59] <The_Bee> I turn off the sound when I play pch games
[18:59] <KK> Yeah, someone has to win them, and it could well be one of us.
[19:00] <Jerusha> Does anyone win them?
[19:00] <Shiral> I usually can't win so much as a free soft drink, so I generally don't buy lottery ticks
[19:00] <BalanceTheEnergies> Not only is the combination striking, by breaking the heraldry rules with his mother's arms, it fits Alaric's canny rebel nature.
[19:00] <The_Bee> freelotto is another free one, as long as you don't subscribe.
[19:01] <The_Bee> I once won $100 in a word contest.
[19:01] <@Evie> I wish Luke's daddy had been a glassmaker, because i can't see through him.  One moment while I eject cat.
[19:02] <BalanceTheEnergies> I also do the surveys on Walgreen's receipts  and enter sweeps from Coca-Cola.
[19:02] * Laurna (Mibbit@OWIRCN-b94a57fc.res.rr.com) has joined #deryni_destinations
[19:02] <Shiral> Cats are pretty opaque, it's true
[19:02] <Jerusha> We pause this programme for a moment while Evie uses the catapult
[19:02] <KK> Of course, those are old Corwyn arms.  It was a bit of a challenge to retrofit the double tressure to inclued Morgan.
[19:02] <Shiral> Hi Lauran
[19:02] <The_Bee> Hi Laurna
[19:02] <Jemler>  hi laurna
[19:02] <@Evie> hi Laurna
[19:02] <Shiral> Laurna
[19:02] <Jerusha> Hi Laurna
[19:02] <Laurna> Hello just got home from the material store
[19:02] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hello Laurna
[19:02] <@Evie> as opposed to the virtual store? ;-)
[19:03] <@Evie> J/K
[19:03] <KK> Uh-oh, has she bought fabric?!
[19:03] <The_Bee> buy anything interesting? or do you mean you work there?
[19:03] <@Evie> fabric shopping?
[19:03] <Shiral> The virtual store is where you get metaphysical supplies
[19:03] <Jemler> meeting madonna?
[19:03] <Laurna> Yes a real store with real fabric  my favorite place
[19:03] <Shiral> Those can be dangerous =o)
[19:03] <KK> And you bought...?
[19:04] <The_Bee> what do you plan to make?
[19:04] <@Evie> I'm glad Walmart has a fabric section again.  It's got a tiny selection, but it beats having to drive 30 to 40 minutes across town to a real fabric store, so it's fine for picking up new thread or cotton fabric.
[19:04] <Laurna> wine red linin to make an under shift for my gold dress
[19:04] <The_Bee> beautiful!!
[19:04] <Jerusha> Sounds lovely
[19:04] <Shiral> You'll be all dressed for the Rhemuth Michaelmas Ball. =o)
[19:05] <KK> Lovely.
[19:05] <Laurna> Lets have a Michaelmas ball I will be ready
[19:05] <@Evie> Post pictures when you make it
[19:06] <@Evie> Laurna, do you know about http://fabrics-store.com/ ?
[19:06] <Laurna> Here is the gold dress but I disliked the bronze underdress so I bouht read
[19:06] <Laurna> red
[19:06] <@Evie> That's where I normally buy linen if shopping for myself and not mini-people.
[19:06] <Laurna> http://www.rhemuthcastle.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;pic=210
[19:07] <@Evie> Cool!  I need to check the Gallery more often; I hadn't seen that photo.
[19:07] <@Evie> But I think the wine red will stand out better than the bronze.
[19:07] <KK> Pretty!  And wine red underneath will look smashing!
[19:07] <Laurna> thanks  i hope so
[19:08] <Jemler> it is gonna pour here
[19:08] <Jerusha> Very beautiful, Laurna!  And Jessa is such a nice accessory.  :)
[19:08] <The_Bee> I wish I had talented fingers.
[19:08] <Laurna> Rain  is someone haveing rain,  Oh yah!
[19:08] <KK> It already did that here--and quite unexpectedly.
[19:08] <Laurna> Jessa is a perfect accessory I have to agree
[19:09] <Jerusha> We have lots of wind
[19:09] <Shiral> I
[19:09] <The_Bee> We have rain forecast for midweek.
[19:09] <@Evie> Here too. I was stranded at the store with groceries and no umbrella, and barely made it back in time for chat
[19:09] <Shiral> will happily accept any rain you guys don't want on the East Coast
[19:09] <Laurna> I'm with you Shiral
[19:09] <Jerusha> I can send you buckets from last night
[19:09] * The_Bee sends shiral rain-making woodgies.
[19:09] <Jemler> didn't you get enough from that hurricane?
[19:09] <Shiral> Thanks, Bee
[19:10] <BalanceTheEnergies> California might like some...
[19:10] <Shiral> I think I should learn Ariella's trick for making rain...
[19:10] <The_Bee> California is where Shiral lives, BTE
[19:11] <Shiral> And we can use every drop of rain we can get
[19:11] <BalanceTheEnergies> Sry
[19:11] <The_Bee> or Storm from the X-Men.
[19:11] <Laurna> Funny now that you mention it there is one little white puff cloud shadding my house,  Who's spell is that?
[19:11] <Shiral> That's okay. =o) I don't keep track of everyone else's home state, either. =o)
[19:11] <@Evie> Any new updates on Aerlys' family trip since her post this morning?
[19:11] <BalanceTheEnergies> I don't get here much I'm afraid.
[19:12] <@Evie> I think they were heading back west again.
[19:12] <@Evie> maybe Aerlys can bring some rain back for you West Coasters
[19:12] <Jerusha> I haven't seen it yet.  Modem was acting up until right before chat
[19:12] <Laurna> I hope nothing else happens she has had enough.
[19:12] <Jemler> Storm? send her here!
[19:12] <Shiral> If not, I'll be sprinkling water on maps of California, before long! We're as crispy as Joram's  hair
[19:13] <@Evie> LOL!!!
[19:13] <Laurna> lol
[19:13] <The_Bee> Do you need rain, Jemler?  I thought the midwest was getting floods.
[19:13] <Laurna> Is that the Joram you got Evie?
[19:13] <Jemler> i saw a kids school paper. it said "What is your favorite hue?" the kid wrote "Jackman
[19:13] <@Evie> I uncrisped poor Joram right before I beheaded him.
[19:13] <KK> What has happened with Aerlys?
[19:13] <Shiral> Only Evie can say this sort of thing without us freaking out
[19:13] <The_Bee> LOL Jemler!
[19:14] <@Evie> She and her family (all 7 kids plus DH) were on a road trip to visit her family in...where was it, Michigan?
[19:14] <@Evie> But they are evidently heading back home now.
[19:14] <Jerusha> Yes, Michigan
[19:14] <Laurna> You beheaded him already? poor man did n't even have time to ask for a repreive.
[19:14] <Jerusha> Or a last meal
[19:14] <@Evie> He wanted a reprieve from that outfit he was wearing.
[19:14] <Jemler> did you give him last rights and lefts?
[19:14] <Laurna> lol
[19:14] <@Evie> and that jointless body
[19:15] <Shiral> And a chance to make his last confession and extreme unction?
[19:15] <@Evie> his head is sitting here on my desk staring up at me
[19:15] <Laurna> That is ok  You will be recieveing another bodyless head in the mail this week to match Joram's
[19:15] <The_Bee> makingyou feel guily, I hope.
[19:15] <@Evie> Duncan was nearby, so I'm sure that got taken care of, Shiral.
[19:15] <Jerusha> I have a picture of Gigi batting it to the floor
[19:15] * Jemler is now known as Jorams_Head
[19:15] <Shiral> A professional courtesy among priests
[19:15] <Jorams_Head> Evie?
[19:15] <Laurna> lol
[19:15] <Shiral> They probably chatted about spiritual matters
[19:15] <@Evie> Ohhh yeah.  I hadn't mentioned that yet, Laurna. Wasn't sure if you wanted to say anything about it or keep it a surprise.
[19:16] <Jorams_Head> Evie?
[19:16] <Laurna> No go ahead   it just a head anyway
[19:16] <The_Bee> It pays to plan a head.
[19:16] <Laurna> I hope no one minds it being Michael Caines head
[19:16] <@Evie> KK, Laurna found a head that she thought would work for Camber, so she has gone ahead and bought it.  So I'm looking for two bodies now, not just one.  :D
[19:17] <Jerusha> Thank goodness you don't have to worry about customs. I can see the customs tag now.  "One head, sans body."
[19:17] <Laurna> lol
[19:17] <@Evie> It is a true action figure head, so finding a body for it shouldn't be difficult.
[19:17] <@Evie> LOL, Jerusha
[19:17] <Shiral> And the body count rises
[19:17] <Jorams_Head> Evie?
[19:18] <Laurna> I thought someone said way back that they thought Michael caine would make good Camber
[19:18] <KK> Wow.  Well, I'm sending you two ladies; made a good hit at a yard sale yesterday.  One is a princess, blonde, and the other has slightly darker hair, and is wearing a winter outfit with russian fur hat.  Both were still in boxes, though boxes are in very poor condition.  But at least they protected the dolls.
[19:18] <Shiral> Someone probably has, Laurna
[19:18] * Jorams_Head is now known as Jemler
[19:18] <@Evie> Being an action figure head, the hair is molded on, but if you want more realistic looking hair, I've seen techniques for gluing mohair or fake fur hair onto the plastic head, following the original hairstyle, so he has more real looking hair.  Or since he wears a hood, it may not be an issue.
[19:18] <Jerusha> Russian fur hat.  Perfect for Tolan
[19:19] <Shiral> A Mini-Morag in the making
[19:19] <Jemler> Evie's Hair Club for Ken.
[19:19] <BalanceTheEnergies> :)
[19:19] <Laurna> lol Well he should be in a hood shouldn't he?
[19:20] <The_Bee> who? Joram or Camber?
[19:20] <Laurna> Camber
[19:20] <Laurna> Unless you want him to be Alister.
[19:21] <Laurna> did Alister have hair.
[19:21] <Jerusha> I think so
[19:21] <Shiral> Very unruly hair
[19:21] <@Evie> Just don't ask me to make him ghostly; I have no clue how to make a transparent action figure! :D
[19:21] <Laurna> lol
[19:21] <The_Bee> I wonder if anyone makes clear plastic dolls.
[19:22] <@Evie> I've seen one, yes
[19:22] <@Evie> Obitsu made it, I think.
[19:22] <Shiral> Not unless you want "The Visible Man" but that's a bit too...anatomical
[19:23] <@Evie> https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?ei=UTF-8&type=avastbcl&hspart=avast&hsimp=yhs-001&p=clear+action+figure
[19:23] <BalanceTheEnergies> The outer skin of those anatomical "visible man" figures comes to mind. No flexible  limbs though.
[19:25] <KK> I think that would be creepy.
[19:25] <@Evie> I did a search for "clear action figure" not expecting anything to pop up.  Silly me!
[19:25] <Laurna> Pleas no thank you Evie
[19:25] <@Evie> paint it with glow in the dark paint, put robes on it with glow in the dark fabric, and take photos in low light.... :D
[19:25] <TerryOBrien> ,ay have to use "Transparent"
[19:26] <Shiral> Not fun to look at, So stick to the "live" ones, Evie
[19:26] <@Evie> I was thinking of a ghostly glow
[19:26] <Shiral> The "glow" could be added in photoshop
[19:26] <@Evie> Yeah, if I ever need Camber to show up in a story, I'll just photoshop a picture of him in a transparent layer
[19:26] <Jemler> try running a fiber optic wire up the back with an led light below.
[19:26] <Laurna> Double photography works just a well. I think
[19:27] <@Evie> I did that to turn my daughter's photo into a ghost teen avatar for Annie's story game.
[19:27] <Laurna> lol Jemler
[19:27] <Shiral> Luke would probably photobomb such an interesting sight, though. =o)
[19:27] <KK> Oh, absolutely.
[19:27] * Annie (Mibbit@5E691D.9F4E06.4D19FD.C59BD8) Quit ( Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client )
[19:27] <Shiral> Cats always know when you're paying attention to something besides them
[19:28] <@Evie> Luke loves to join the littles when the camera is out.  And even if it's not
[19:28] <KK> Actually, he'd probably come up to it, peer at it, bat it once or twice, then turn his back on it and go lie down to wash.
[19:28] <@Evie> he prefers to sit on them.
[19:28] <Jerusha> Night, Annie?
[19:28] <@Evie> or curl up next to them
[19:28] <@Evie> Annie probably fell asleep with the laptop. :D
[19:29] <Jerusha> It would be about that time, I would think
[19:29] <Shiral> Yes
[19:29] <The_Bee> It's well after midnight for her.
[19:30] <KK> She hadn't said anything for a while.  Maybe she <did> fall asleep at the keyboard.
[19:30] * Jemler (~jemler@OWIRCN-9733da4b.oh.comcast.net) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
[19:31] <Jerusha> Jemler, too?
[19:31] <Laurna> uhoh are we being purged?
[19:31] <Shiral> Uh--oh and then there were none...
[19:31] <@Evie> When Joram has a body that will work for him, I will start working on his clothing. In the meantime, I am working on trying to figure out 1:6 scale Wisby armor, possibly for Alaric.
[19:31] <Jerusha> Where's Loris?
[19:31] <Laurna> A torenthi plot
[19:31] <Shiral> If someone did that to a convent it would be "Until there were Nun
[19:31] <@Evie> LOL
[19:31] <Jerusha> Tee hee
[19:32] <Jerusha> Wisby armor, Evie?
[19:32] <KK> Ah, well, it's about that time anyway.  BTW, now reading Eifelheim, which was a Hugo finalist, and deservedly so.  Dense, chewy reading, but fascinaring.
[19:32] <KK> fascinating, too.
[19:32] <@Evie> I loved Eifelheim!!!
[19:32] <Laurna> Shiral have you been possessed by Jemler
[19:32] <Shiral> Youve been snared, KK
[19:32] <Shiral> No, I don't think so, Laurna. =o) Even if I say naughty things once in a while
[19:32] <KK> Wisby armor, me too.  What is it?
[19:32] <Laurna> lol
[19:33] <@Evie> Hang on, let me find photos
[19:33] <@Evie> here's the layout of metal plates underneath the fabric or leather exterior:  http://www.armourarchive.org/patterns/wisby/patterns/wisby1.gif
[19:33] * Shiral tries to be good, knowing there's a lot of projectile fish around her. But every now and then I can't resist...
[19:34] <TerryOBrien> Who wrote Eifelheim?
[19:34] <@Evie> Here's one example of it from the outside: https://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=AwrB8pZrJcNThGoAZkqJzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTIzaG11cGp1BHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1nBG9pZANhNTY2YzZhNWYxOTE5YmQwYzhiYTUyY2E3MmMzM2E0NgRncG9zAzIyBGl0A2Jpbmc-?back=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3F_adv_prop%3Dimage%26va%3Dwisby%2Barmor%26fr%3Dyhs-avast-001%26hsimp%3Dyhs-001%26hspart%3Davast%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D22&w=400&h=600&imgurl=armstreet.com%2Fcatalogue%2Ffull%2Fmultilayered-wisby-type-brigandine-body-suit-2.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Farmstreet.com%2Fstore%2Farmor%2Fmultilayered-wisby-type-brigandine-body-suit&size=205.4KB&name=Home+Store+Terms+%26+Conditions+Feedbacks+Contacts&p=wisby+armor&oid=a566c6a5f1919bd0c8ba52ca72c33a46&fr2=&fr=yhs-avast-001&tt=Home+Store+Terms+%26+Conditions+Feedbacks+Contacts&b=0&ni=96&no=22&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=12d2brn45&sigb=1473ip439&sigi=12f6nd51v&sigt=11ga9r87h&sign=11ga9r87h&.crumb=iVxllVvTNuA&fr=yhs-avast-001&hsimp=yhs-001&hspart=avast
[19:34] <TerryOBrien> I might look it up for those spare moments
[19:34] <KK> Is that what it's called?
[19:34] <@Evie> I think Eifelheim was by Michael O'Flynn, or Michael Flynn, something like that.
[19:34] <@Evie> It's called Wisby armor a lot of times because lots of them were discovered at the site of the Battle of Wisby
[19:35] <KK> And why is it called that?  (That link doesn't take me to anything resembling armor of any sort.
[19:35] <Jerusha> So protective plates under the leather?  Kind of "under armor"?
[19:35] <KK> A coat of plates....
[19:36] <KK> Sandwiched between layers, precursor of full plate armor.
[19:36] <@Evie> Apparently after the Battle of Wisby, there were enough dead (and I think bad weather conditions) that they could go back and bury the bodies immediately, and the bodies were so ripe once they were able to bury them, they just left the armor on the bodies (it being unsalvageable by that point) and buried them in mass graves.
[19:36] <@Evie> Bad for the Wisby dead, but great for historians and archeologists.
[19:36] <Shiral> https://www.google.com/search?q=wisby+armor&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=_SXDU6DOEIrbigLh-oHwDw&sqi=2&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1600&bih=737
[19:36] <Shiral> I found some pix at the link above
[19:37] <Laurna> Wiki says that was 1361.  isn't that too late for Gwynedd?
[19:37] <Jerusha> Interesting
[19:37] <@Evie> Duncan has a brown leather brigandine that is loosely based on Wisby armor, but it doesn't have actual plates in it, just foam rubber plates
[19:37] <KK> The time lines blur....:)
[19:38] <Shiral> It doesn't look as if it would be wildly out of place
[19:38] <KK> You aren't really going to do it with plates, are you?
[19:38] <@Evie> and yes, Laurna, it's outside of period for Duncan and Alaric, if they were in a strictly historically accurate universe, but I am NOT making miniature chain mail!  :D
[19:38] <Laurna> Or do you think they were waring such armor for centures before
[19:38] <Shiral> Foam rubber? Won't he look like the Michelin Man?
[19:38] <@Evie> Yes...plates cut from a plastic water bottle. :D
[19:39] <KK> Some modern bulletproof vests use individual plates somewhat like this.
[19:39] <@Evie> Fortunately the fashions described in the Deryniverse aren't strictly restricted to those worn in the early 1100s, so I'm calling it artistic license.  :)
[19:39] <KK> Works for me.
[19:40] <Laurna> Sounds good
[19:40] <Shiral> tsk, you don't want to go mad making tiny chain mail?
[19:40] <Shiral> =o)
[19:40] <@Evie> Besides which, that allows me to amuse my SCA friends when I start carving up a water bottle and putting together miniature Wisby. :D
[19:40] <BalanceTheEnergies> Might not Deryni powers drive weapons tech forward a bit?
[19:40] <@Evie> I do not!  My eyesight isn't good enough.  I considered it briefly, but sanity returned.
[19:40] <KK> Besides, it's horses for courses.  Sometimes partial plate is appropriate, sometimes chain, at least in parts.  It's a balance between weight and flexibility and protection....
[19:40] <Shiral> And I thought I was crazy making itty bitty houses...
[19:41] <@Evie> In the early days of plate armor, including Wisby armor, chain was often worn with it anyway
[19:41] <KK> Stuff in miniature has always fascinated folk....
[19:42] <@Evie> I have some fabric that can be used to resemble chainmail in a pinch, but I'm going to try to go with a leather look whenever possible, for easy of construction. There are more materials that can be sculpted and made to look like cuir bouilli leather than materials that will pass for mail and be in my price range.
[19:42] <KK> Boiled leather armor was also useful in its place.
[19:43] <@Evie> Yes, and I found an air drying modeling compound that I think might make decent "boiled leather".  It is somewhat flexible even after it dries, so better than polymer clay in that regard.
[19:43] <KK> Probably the protection of choice with riding leathers.
[19:43] <@Evie> or I've heard that craft foam sheets can be heat shaped, and that can be painted to look like leather also.
[19:43] <KK> Anyway, I gotta go.  The Last Ship will be starting shortly.  I recommend it.
[19:43] <@Evie> and I need to go do dinner
[19:43] <Shiral> NIght, KK
[19:43] <Shiral> Thanks for stopping by
[19:44] <Laurna> Good night KK
[19:44] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
[19:44] <Jerusha> Bye KK, thanks for coming
[19:44] <BalanceTheEnergies> Good night KK
[19:44] <@Evie> goodnight!
[19:44] <The_Bee> nighters, KK. thanks for coming and have a good week.
[19:44] <TerryOBrien> Awww. I looked away and she left ...
[19:44] <KK> May or may not make it next Sunday.  ill be coming home from a Michaeline retreat in Penn.
[19:44] <KK> Nighters.
[19:44] <Laurna> Sounds fun
[19:44] <Shiral> Until next time then, whenever
