[18:01] * KK (~kkurtz@OWIRCN-3d2ec0ac.va.comcast.net) has joined #deryni_destinations
[18:01] <Evie> Hi, KK
[18:01] <the_Bee> Hi everyone!
[18:01] <Annie> she had to put a lot of it back, so she had a ton of catching up to do
[18:01] <Shiral> The cats worked, Evie
[18:01] <Shiral> Hi KK
[18:01] <~bynw> Hiyas KK
[18:01] <jemler> hi kk
[18:01] <KK> Hello, all.
[18:01] <the_Bee> and HiKK
[18:01] <Annie> hi KK
[18:01] <Evie> Wow, that was prompt! I had just put cats at the four quarters for you, KK
[18:01] <Sarah> hey KK
[18:01] <KK> LOL
[18:01] <~bynw> Evie, ok Permissions weren't set yet. So now they are
[18:02] <Evie> thanks, bynw
[18:02] <Shiral> You've done the casting of the wards in every other way, why not with pussy cats? =o)
[18:02] <the_Bee> Where did you find a green cat for the north quarter, Evie?
[18:03] <~bynw> because they wont sit still long enough
[18:03] <Evie> No telling what she got into. She started off white. ;-)
[18:03] <Shiral> Maybe not, but they can purr
[18:03] <Evie> Actuallly, it's a black cat in the north, I think, isn't it?
[18:04] <KK> Has to be.
[18:04] <Shiral> Red tabby for St. Michael in the South
[18:04] <~bynw> for cats you would have to use a different color set
[18:04] <Shiral> Russian blue in the west
[18:04] <KK> Yep.  And an airy white persian in the east.
[18:04] <Annie> two grey tabbies won't help much then
[18:04] <Evie> Mike, Gabe, Rafe and Uri, or have I got Gabriel and Raphael swapped around?
[18:04] <KK> Depends on where you're starting.
[18:05] <Shiral> Rafel, Michael, Gabriel and Uriel
[18:05] <Evie> East and going clockwise
[18:05] <KK> Gabe and Rafe are switched.
[18:05] <Evie> OK
[18:05] <Evie> I never get those right
[18:05] * Shiral sets out a tea table with scones, jam and clotted cream[18:06] * Evie sets out dark chocolate and shakes her left leg where it's fallen asleep under Luke
[18:06] <~bynw> the harddrive in my desktop computer died yesterday :(
[18:06] <KK> I just want to know where you get clotted cream in this country!
[18:06] <Shiral> Oh thank goodness, I thought you'd added your leg to the feast, Evie
[18:06] <Evie> Do you need someone to say the Last Rites over the HD, bynw?
[18:06] <Shiral> It's virtual, KK
[18:07] <KK> Yuck!  I, too, have a computer woe from the past week.
[18:07] <Evie> 1:6 Duncan is here, if you do
[18:07] <Sarah> lol Evie
[18:07] <Shiral> But you can buy clotted cream in tiny expensive jars at high-end markets out here
[18:07] <Shiral> Sorry to hear about the computer, Bynw
[18:07] <~bynw> fortunately i still have my windoze 7 laptop have to use it until i get my desktop hd replaced
[18:07] <KK> Windows set out an update, I clicked on the little yellow shield as I always do, and when I restarted, a totally alien screen came up, and I couldn't find any of my document files.
[18:07] <Evie> I wonder if you could get clotted cream at Whole Foods?
[18:08] <the_Bee> My computer is in extreme sluggish mode.
[18:08] <Shiral> In a pinch, whip cream until it's almost to the butter stage
[18:08] * ~bynw is using mIRC right now ... i haven't used it in ages
[18:08] <Evie> eep, KK!
[18:08] <Shiral> Ack, KK!!!
[18:08] <KK> I recently found a recipe for making it, so I'm going to try that.  I know one <cam> buy expensive little jars, but maybe there's hope another way.
[18:08] <Shiral> Is everything back to normal, now?
[18:08] <Evie> Tell me you back up CM3 regularly....  :D
[18:09] <KK> Yes, I took it to Staples, and when we hooked it up and turned it ob, the familiar screen came back.  Go figure.
[18:09] <~bynw> KK, sounds like a one of those fake antivirus/system update programs got on your system
[18:09] <Shiral> Well, I didn't have computer woes but I did have a disaster when my car and house keys got flushed down a public toilet on Friday
[18:09] <Shiral> Well, thank goodness!
[18:09] <Annie> eek
[18:09] <KK> Oh noes!
[18:09] <the_Bee> Ouch!
[18:09] <Evie> ACK, Shiral!
[18:09] <~bynw> Shiral, how did that happen ....
[18:10] <Annie> given that it's after midnight, why does it sound like DD is moving furniture upstairs?
[18:10] <Shiral> Fortunately, I had an extra car key set at home, and my sympathetic landlady gave me a new door key
[18:10] <KK> (This should be good!)
[18:10] <Shiral> Faulty pants pocket design and gravity
[18:10] <Evie> Before or after your landlady stopped laughing?
[18:10] <Shiral> You know when you can see a disaster about to happen and can't move fast enough to prevent it?
[18:10] <KK> Yike!  Awfulness!
[18:10] <KK> Oh, yeah.
[18:10] <Shiral> I heard the splash and looked just in time to see them whoosh away
[18:10] <Shiral> Gone forever, now
[18:11] <Evie> Annie, is your DD having a sudden urge to rearrange the furniture at midnight?
[18:11] <Shiral> She was very sympathetic, and refrained from laughing at me
[18:11] <KK> Well, you <have> been there a long time, as I recall.
[18:12] <Shiral> Yup
[18:12] <Evie> I'd be very sympathetic too.  But probably laughing like a loon as well. ;-)
[18:12] <Annie> sounds like it, Evie
[18:12] <Shiral> My mom laughed. I told her I'd give it 24 hours before I could find the comedy in the situation
[18:12] <Evie> What can I say? I'm cursed with a very vivid and warped imagination. :D
[18:13] <~bynw> I was hoping the how it happened story would be better ... maybe you should make something up for it
[18:13] <Shiral> It was one of those weird, awful events that completely ruins the day
[18:13] <Evie> KK, how are our Deryni menfolk this week?
[18:13] <Evie> I'll bet, Shiral!  How did you get home without the car keys?
[18:13] <Shiral> I was simultaneously flushing and pulling up my pants and splash
[18:14] <~bynw> Evie, we know about your warped imagination. we can see it in some of your littles when you arrange them for photographs
[18:14] <Shiral> My mom drove me to her place, I was able to get intouch with the landlandy. ONce I was in my door again, I grabbed my extra set of car keys
[18:14] <Evie> Women need men's trouser pockets.  They're deeper and better designed.
[18:14] <KK> Everyone is fine, though I lost some time with the computer fiasco, and also was still gathering the last of the tax numbers.
[18:14] <Evie> :-P at bynw
[18:14] <Evie> ack, KK!
[18:14] <Shiral> No kidding. It's a new pair of pants, but the pocket design as I know to my sorrow, is faulty
[18:14] <Sarah> im with Evie on the pockets thing
[18:15] <Shiral> I'd go with the Velcro option myself
[18:15] <~bynw> we loose change out of our pockets all the time. they aren't that great
[18:15] <Shiral> But there were a number of S bombs dropped at the time.  A pretty appropriate curse, seeing where it happened. =o_)
[18:15] <Shiral> =o)
[18:16] <Evie> KK, Mini-Duncan is on his new body, but I couldn't rebody Alaric.  He turns out to have an incompatible head, so I'll have to learn how to do the requisite plastic surgery and practice on some spares before I dare switch him to a better body.
[18:16] <Evie> lol, Shiral
[18:16] <the_Bee> Side-opening pockets are very bad for losing stuff.
[18:16] <Shiral> Welcome to the Cyborg workshop
[18:16] <KK> LOL re the colorful language.
[18:17] <~bynw> aaaah a deformed Alaric Morgan after Dr Evie Jeckel Frankenstein gets ahold of him
[18:17] <Evie> No, no, that's what I'm trying to avoid, bynw!
[18:17] <KK> I saw the new bodies yesterday on the website, but I guess that was before you started switcheroos.
[18:17] <Shiral> Not quite as bad as if I'd lost them down a Garderobe in Valoret Castle. But I really wish Camber had been there to fish them back out
[18:18] <Evie> Duncan is pictured in his new body in that last post, KK.  But Alaric remains on his original one.  I used another head for that spare body instead.
[18:18] <Evie> That would have been handy, Shiral
[18:18] <Shiral> You never can find a Deryni when you need one most!
[18:18] <Evie> Dowsing to find them, then telekineses to lift them out
[18:19] <Shiral> Exactly
[18:19] <Evie> or a magnet on a long flexible stick
[18:19] <Shiral> Failing that, I'd have been glad to see Harry Potter
[18:19] <KK> Yep.  Even so, somebody needs to wash them once retrieved.  Yuck!
[18:19] <Shiral> They tried that, it didnt' work
[18:19] <Evie> accio keys!
[18:19] <Evie> just wear gloves before you try that
[18:19] <Evie> given where the keys have been
[18:19] <KK> Most modern keys aren't magnetic.
[18:20] <the_Bee> bronze
[18:20] <Shiral> I was so freaked out, I would have reached into a third world sewer
[18:20] <Shiral> But I'm glad I didn't have to
[18:20] <Evie> Is third world crap somehow worse than first world?  :D
[18:20] <Shiral> No but the plumbing is better
[18:20] <Shiral> Probably
[18:20] <Evie> :D
[18:21] <the_Bee> Third world plumbing is better?
[18:21] <Shiral> Accio Keys would have come in handy
[18:21] <Shiral> No, First world plumbing is better
[18:21] <the_Bee> Accio?
[18:22] <Shiral> Harry Potter Universe, Bee. It's a summoning charm
[18:22] <jemler> as Sheldon Cooper: "Are you fairly regular?" As me: "I don't know. I never compared myself to anyone else."
[18:22] <Shiral> Anyway, at least I didn't pour the Haldana necklace out of a bowl.
[18:22] <Annie> nooooooo not Sheldon Cooper
[18:23] <Shiral> I would have tried to grab them before they went anywhere really awful, but I couldn't reach them in time
[18:23] <jemler> <Knock><Knock><Knock> Annie?
[18:23] <jemler> <Knock><Knock><Knock> Annie?
[18:23] <jemler> <Knock><Knock><Knock> Annie?
[18:24] <Annie> I so hate that show. DD is obsessed, and I loathe it
[18:24] <jemler> how old is DDD?
[18:24] <Annie> anyway, I am yawning my head off here, so having checked in, I shall take myself off to bed.
[18:24] <jemler> sorry, DD
[18:24] <Annie> she is 15
[18:24] <Evie> Glad to see you again, Annie!
[18:24] <Shiral> That says it all, I gues
[18:25] <~bynw> night Annie thanks for dropping in
[18:25] <jemler> have hwer call me in 3 years.
[18:25] <Shiral> Night, night Annie
[18:25] <the_Bee> nighters, Annie
[18:25] <KK> Bye, Annie.  Glad you could stop by for a bit.  Sleep tight.
[18:25] <Evie> Hopefully you'll stay in better health now that the weather is turning and the colds and flu are dying down
[18:25] <Annie> night all. And behave, Jemler ;)
[18:25] <jemler> what's that?
[18:25] <Evie> He doesn't know what haive is, you know that
[18:25] <Annie> yeah. Whenever anyone coughs near me, I get really worried, though!
[18:25] <Annie> lol
[18:25] <Annie> night *waves*
[18:25] * Annie (Mibbit@5E691D.9A57B4.C20DD3.BCC32D) has left #deryni_destinations
[18:25] <Evie> goodnight
[18:26] <Shiral> Anyhow,  Brion and Alaric didn't get Virused away from your hard drive, luckily KK
[18:26] <Evie> drat. Missed.
[18:27] <KK> Yeah, I can't wait to get my new computer.  This one is so on borrowed time!
[18:27] <Shiral> When does the new one arrive?
[18:28] <~bynw> mine is only a 1 1/2 years old :( sad that its HD died
[18:28] <Evie> :(
[18:28] <KK> Can't even order it until I get paid for finishing this book.
[18:28] <Evie> Have you ordered a new one yet, KK?
[18:28] <Evie> Ah
[18:28] <Shiral> Ah. Well, we all need incentives
[18:28] <Shiral> =o)
[18:28] <Evie> I've heard it's best to steer clear of Windows 8
[18:28] <Sarah> ive heard that too
[18:29] <Evie> Though you should be fine with Win 7
[18:29] <jemler> i order spare parts from tigerdirect.com. decent prices, and fast delivery.
[18:29] <~bynw> that is very true stay clear of windows 8
[18:29] <~bynw> windows 7 is fine if you are gonna be using windows
[18:29] <Evie> So you've got incentive to finish the book very soon, it sounds like.
[18:29] <the_Bee> Does anyone know a trustworthy program for speeding up a very sluggish computer?
[18:29] <KK> That's what I've heard.  And I was perfectly happy with XP.
[18:30] <Evie> XP is good but will be losing Microsoft's support next year, so Win 7 would be better for a new computer.  I doubt you can find one new with XP anymore.
[18:31] <KK> No, I know that.  I just don't want Windows 8.
[18:31] <Sarah> KK: I think I love you now. >_> XP is my favorite OS yet
[18:31] <~bynw> the_Bee, yes you can make sure you run the defragmenter on the harddrive ... it's already on the computer ... do that to start
[18:31] <Evie> Bee,  have you run any checks for spyware on it?
[18:31] <~bynw> the_Bee, then you can get and run CCleaner (its a free program)
[18:31] <Sarah> i love CCleaner
[18:33] <Shiral> The tiny vacuum is so cute
[18:33] <the_Bee> I think my puter runs automatic defrags/  I have AVG for spyware, which is SUPPOSED to be running in the background.  I keep seeing adds for speedups, but I wonder if most them ARE spyware.
[18:33] <~bynw> the_Bee, Evie is right make sure you dont have any spyware or viruses
[18:34] <~bynw> the_Bee, i wouldnt trust them personally those TV adds to clean up a pc
[18:34] <the_Bee> I know, but what's a good program for removing it?  any worth paying for, Or can I get away with freeware?
[18:35] <~bynw> CCleaner is a freeware program that can clean up a lot of things on a windows computer
[18:35] <the_Bee> Maybe my AVG and my McAfee are interfering with each other?
[18:35] <~bynw> thats a possibility
[18:36] <Evie> KK, I bought Action Figure Duncan this so he can have something more modern to wear if he goes to a con or some such with me in the modern world:  http://www.project-are.com/graphics/clericaldickie01.jpg  :D
[18:36] <KK> Yeah, they say you should only be running one antispyware program at a time, because they can fight.
[18:37] <Evie> that can slow down a computer
[18:37] <Shiral> Sibling Rivalry, they just can't get along
[18:37] <KK> Evie, that's cool!
[18:37] <Evie> try just running whichever of those you like best, and disable the other, but keep it on hand in case you ever think you might need a 'second opinion'
[18:37] * DF64 (Mibbit@OWIRCN-f685fc28.mycingular.net) has joined #deryni_destinations
[18:37] <the_Bee> Thanks, Sarah and Bynw.  I'll look for CCleaner.  I'll also try rerstoring my computer to an earlier state.  It got worse after I downloaded some stuff.
[18:38] <KK> And running CCCleaner is probably a good idea.
[18:38] <Shiral> Hi DF
[18:38] <Evie> I was pretty amused when I found that, KK.  That shop has some action figure clothes that no other shops have, because they are custom made items.
[18:38] <the_Bee> Hi DF
[18:38] <DF64> hi all
[18:38] <Evie> Hi, DF
[18:38] <KK> Hi, DF.
[18:39] <DF64> Just getting over real bad weather--not quite over yet
[18:39] <jemler> hi df
[18:39] <Evie> I saw you were getting some strong storms down south.  We just got mild rain from that system
[18:40] <KK> Disk cleanup is also useful Bee.  You'll find it next to the defrag command in accessories.
[18:40] <Evie> or at least they looked like stronger storms on  my weather app radar
[18:40] <the_Bee> Evie, is that Duncan?  He looks so STERN!
[18:40] <Evie> No, that's not, Bee.  hang on, I'll find a pic of my Duncan
[18:40] <DF64> thunderstorm and tornado warnings
[18:40] <jemler> i just installed/ran ccleaner
[18:41] <the_Bee> and the season is just beginning.
[18:41] <~bynw> CCleaner is good as it also has a registery cleaner
[18:41] <~bynw> registery such a silly thing Windows thought of ....
[18:41] <Evie> http://www.rhemuthcastle.com/index.php/topic,844.msg7720.html#msg7720  Second pic, Bee, the one with lighter brown hair.
[18:42] <Evie> I've put him back in his cassock now, but don't have a photo of him dressed in his new body yet
[18:43] <the_Bee> Good Grief!  FAther Duncan is standing around naked!
[18:43] <KK> Who's the darker-haired dude?
[18:43] <Shiral> He's way too hot to be a priest, sorry. But that's also the actual Duncan's problem.
[18:43] <KK> Is that the new head that came with the 2 new bodies?
[18:43] <Evie> I don't know yet, KK.  Do you have a physical description for Jass MacArdry?  If not, I'd thought I might turn that one into him.
[18:44] <Shiral> Welcome to the Head'n'Body Chat Room!
[18:44] <Evie> He was a spare head I had on hand, but when Alaric's head wasn't the right sort for the new body, that was the only spare I had that would fit on it
[18:44] <Evie> LOL, Shiral
[18:44] <KK> You'll have to refresh my memory.  Where does Jass appear?
[18:44] <DF64> :D
[18:44] <Shiral> The King's Justice
[18:45] <Evie> He first appears as one of the transha men in TKJ, and he's also the one Conall took as hostage
[18:45] <Shiral> And in Quest. I don't know if he's ever described, though
[18:45] <Evie> and was on the quest with the new knights in Quest
[18:45] <Evie> I don't think he's described, so I made up a description in my fanfic.
[18:45] <Evie> I looked for one in the novels first, but never spotted a physical description, just his personality came shining through really clearly
[18:45] <KK> We'll go with your description, then.  Just let me know.
[18:46] <Evie> I went with dark hair with chestnut red highlights and whiskey colored eyes.
[18:46] <Evie> I figured not every Borderman can be a redheid. ;-)
[18:46] <Evie> But the highlights at least hint at that heritage
[18:47] <Evie> and the eye color is close enough to Dhugal's to hint at some distant kinship
[18:48] <the_Bee> I thought Dhugal got his eyes from Maryse.
[18:48] <Shiral> She's his MacArdry parent, so it figures
[18:48] <Evie> What I love about Jass's character in the novels is that he tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve.  You see how upset he is by Dhugal's seeming "cowardice" in fleeing the battle, and later you see his happy spirits when he leads the young knights in song as they set out on the quest
[18:48] <Evie> and he's none too happy about being a hostage either. :D
[18:49] <Evie> See, I even love the minor walk-on characters. :D
[18:50] <KK> At least he wasn't a redshirt.
[18:50] <Evie> Yeah, I love that most of all.  :D
[18:50] <Shiral> Serving the Haldanes can be tough
[18:50] <Evie> It's bad enough when you stick my favorite dishy men in cassocks. ;-)
[18:51] <KK> Amen to that.
[18:51] <~bynw> oh know everyone serving the Haldane's is a redshirt ... since they all wear that Halden Crimson
[18:51] <the_Bee> redshirt?  Remind me.
[18:51] <Shiral> But Alaric seems to find the life suits him. =o)
[18:51] <~bynw> no!!!
[18:51] <DF64> Football term
[18:51] <~bynw> the_Bee, redshirts, from classic star trek that always got killed in an episode
[18:52] <the_Bee> oh yes!
[18:52] <Evie> "redshirt" as a trope comes from the original Star Trek, Bee.  The people in red shirts tended to be members of the Security team who often died in the series
[18:52] <Shiral> Aliens aren't as harmless as they look
[18:52] <DF64> They had all the bad luck
[18:53] <jemler> they wore red so you couldn't see the blood. when they were surrounded by klingons, kirk always wore brown pants! :)
[18:53] <Shiral> And they were highly visible
[18:53] <~bynw> especially those redshirts that you never saw before ... "Who's that guy in the away team?"
[18:53] <Evie> I have a Star Trek red shirt, but it's torn due to DH wearing it at a Con dressed like a Redshirt Zombie. :D
[18:53] <Shiral> Don't bother getting to know him, he'll be dead before the first commercial break
[18:53] <~bynw> Evie, that sounds cool
[18:54] <DF64> The weather is getting nasty again here
[18:54] <Evie> DH got it in the con dealer's room on clearance, so it was probably the least expensive con costume he's ever made.  A $5 shirt plus some zombie makeup
[18:54] <jemler> here it was 32, now it's 65
[18:54] <jemler> 32 at 6am
[18:54] <Shiral> Sounds like  job for Dimples the Avenger
[18:55] <Evie> :D
[18:55] <Evie> I'm sweet, dagnabbit!
[18:55] <jemler> how do you nab a dag?
[18:56] <Shiral> Hey now, who has all those headless bodies in her house?
[18:56] <Shiral>  =o)
[18:56] <Evie> I think I got that nickname after DH read a horror short story I wrote years ago.  DH read it, then handed me two Midol tablets and told me he'd sleep locked in our van. ;-)
[18:56] <jemler> you had spare keys though?
[18:56] <Evie> Yeah, but it's the thought that counts, jemler. :D
[18:57] <the_Bee> Are you safe?  We'll understand if you have to leave abruptly.
[18:57] <KK> Whoops, it's time for Once Upon a TIme.  And it's a special tonight.
[18:57] <jemler> set to record!
[18:57] <Evie> The story had sort of an "A Rose for Emily" twist to it, if you are familiar with that story
[18:57] <DF64> On my iPhone
[18:57] <Shiral> Aw.. KK, have a good week
[18:57] <Sarah> bye KK
[18:58] <Shiral> No more taxes or computer glitches, I hope!
