I'm not sure from reading the descriptions if this was a carillon, a very large single bell, or a pipe organ.

Anyone have any idea?

A minor matter, but it is a slight irritation; I am no artist, but I do like to get my mental image of a scene correct.

I believe Job's Complaint is a single bell at the Hagios Iob.

Thanks.  Pipe organ was the least likely; although the level of technology depicted in the book would have allowed pipe organs in at least the larger cathedrals, in our primary world the Eastern Orthodox Church does not use them, and the Torenthi are (I think) more or less corresponding to the Byzantines or the Russians of our world.
